I am downloading VirtualBox for mac

that's what I call a redundant URL :)

well there is a special reason behind this redundancy ;)

will this run on VirtualBox

1:09 PM
what is that reason behind that redundancy?

a few months ago there was the desktop, server and netbook edition of Ubuntu, the desktop and netbook editions were merged to just ubuntu since they are the same thing from 11.04 onwards

VirtualBox installed
Octavian are you using mac?

I want to installed window in VirtualBox
for blackberry development

1:18 PM
but I dont have window CD

that is a problem then
you'll have to buy one

BUY!
is there any other solution
In my office there is CD of window 7
will it run there

well yes, that is the action when you give someone money and get something in return for it, that is called buying
@ManjotSingh for the 100th time yes

Will image of Windows will work on VirtualBox?

you're doing it on purpose right? :D

1:24 PM
List of aff Supported guest OS > virtualbox.org/wiki/Guest_OSes
Including Server 2008, 2003, Windows XP, Vista, and 7.

where do I get CD of it?
my boss wont allow me to do that
he will not give me any CD
so tell me the source of Window CD

I have made VirtualWindow it works fine but I am getting "Fatal:No bootable medium found,System halted"

@ManjotSingh This is why you need the Ubuntu or Windows disk.

1:28 PM
or an ISO file that you'll download from ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download/ubuntuubuntu/downloadownload

but priority is of Window then Ubuntu

@LoïcWolff lol it is not that redundant! :D

I am beginner :)

@ManjotSingh Unless a) your boss is willing to give you a windows disk or b) your can go out and buy it then it looks like Ubuntu has to be your first choice.

I dont have much idea

1:30 PM
@LoïcWolff Think you missed a /download there somewhere.

@tombull89 that list is missing Plan 9!

@tombull89 you're right, it should be download.ubuntu.com :)

so lets try with Ubuntu then
I am downloading ISO file of Ubuntu :)

well done
first step to civilization

where it has been required?

1:33 PM
there

...
this is becoming painful.

> These salutations aren't eaten; they're donated to Misantrophic PHP Devs Anonymous, those people need some niceties. – balpha♦

@LoïcWolff I just upboated that :P

1:39 PM
upboating, sounds nice :D

yay upboat.

nice

Morning.
Reading the iOS5 enhancement list is actually making me happy about the update. All broken alpha features aside, this is pretty nice.

2:12 PM
ok, what's this about a skype outage?

@jcolebrand MS bought skype, few days later skype went down with dropped calls and people unable to login.
Some localaised problems but it's getting back on it's feet.

So is this like when the super-multi-nodes went down? I already knew about the MS-Skype thing. Particularly liked the reddited version of sky.net

haha, yeah I saw that.

Q: The smallest backup possible ... with SQL Server

Sam SaffronDaily we ship our SQL Server backups across the WAN. We need to minimize the size of these backups so it does not take forever. We don't mind if our backup process takes a bit longer; as it stands we need to move 30gigs of compressed backup across the WAN that takes over 10 hours. There are 2...

2:35 PM
Aww, a software-rec question? waffles--

lulz

WAFFLES!

3:11 PM
It would seem as tho you are slow with the updates ;)
So I just found out our direction/strategy for the next iter of our software, we're going to transition from data warehouse to OLTP. Fun.

@jcolebrand Next time you two should add it to the recent changes list; I assumed nobody'd noticed yet because it wasn't on there

bah, admit it, you just have been slacking off on slacking off.

@MichaelMrozek Ah right, I knew there was something I had meant to do..

and someone else pointed it out to me, so why should I be the one to add it to that list? I say we /blame @RebeccaChernoff

> @TimStone: SANITY IS OVERRATED! MUAHAHAHAHAHA – balpha 59s ago
It seems I finally pushed @balpha over the edge.

3:26 PM
I feel that my title/body don't really convey what I want it to here, any thoughts?

Q: In C# ADO.NET, how can I tell if a sproc returned 0 rows versus the sproc had no commands to run on TSQL?

jcolebrandIn C# ADO.NET, how can I tell if a sproc returned 0 rows versus the sproc had no commands to run on TSQL? Let me lay it out in full. In TSQL I have (when I open this in SSMS) ALTER PROC mySproc @myvar VARCHAR(10) AS /* commented out on dev system - uncomment on production */ /* guess what d...

I don't know it is such a good idea to just repeat the title in the body or the other way around

Salutations!

@jcolebrand also your body lacks tons of Hiiiiiiiii!!!!!!!, Dear Mr. and Mrs. Stack Overflow and so on

3:28 PM
@OctavianDamiean thanks for the feedback. Not so helpful ;)
@balpha and did it help?

@OctavianDamiean yeah, idk. I do it about 50% of the time I think.

well reading it twice I still fail to think of a shorter title so never mind :p

@balpha lmao
@MichaelMrozek Oh, while you're in there, I guess no one actually mentioned that the short links were added for comments.

awesome!

3:32 PM
I think there's some confusion regarding the RFC2SE post. Specifically who is able to edit it -- the answer is everyone

@TimStone omg. OMG. OMFG. That has the potential to be brilliant.

I'd be much more excited if they worked in posts; I link to those places on meta all the time, I almost never link to them in comments

@MichaelMrozek Well, since we determined yesterday that you were really my sockpuppet, I suppose I'm just talking to myself.

why do you need to edit a question 28 times? stackoverflow.com/posts/5963378/revisions

@ÓlafurWaage so it hits CW?
ok, off for a haircut. bbl. (more of the continuing saga that is the excitement that is Cole's life)

3:37 PM
@ÓlafurWaage that is when you suck at proofreading :p

Or he's just bumping it

I'm thinking it's bumping.

Seems most likely, given the intervals between the edits.

instead of just starting a bounty :p

Eh, why is the chatroom widget showing up on the sidebar of the tool screen?

3:42 PM
Maybe it shows you when chat has flags. Or maybe it's just chillin', 'cause that's how it rolls. I have no idea either way.

I know it says "Go and ask people on chat", but the widget still doesn't make sense

Well, it seems to have disappeared from the sidebar on Meta.

Apparently, it's morning again.

Though for all I know that may have happened a while ago, and I didn't realize.

I'm seeing it in a bunch places @YiJiang
When Chat Widget attacks!

3:44 PM
@TimStone Indeed, it was morning quite a while ago. Where have you bee @GeorgeMarian? :P

Hah ;)

@YiJiang I was sleeping soundly. :)
Apparently, it's going to be a cool day. Yay. \o/

> @TeamOfJacob is now following you on Twitter. Jacob Black is a fictional character in the books Twilight.
Is this a joke?

3:48 PM
I laughed.

You know that you are famous when fictional book and movie characters start following you on Twitter.

Yet still no @codinghorror, @jonskeet or @wilshipley...

> This was in our hotel parking lot this morning... Lol... Someone is in big trouble!

@TimStone I'll say. Imagine what EL&U will do to Nikki when they find out about "your broke"

3:51 PM
hehe

:D

@MichaelMrozek LOL
That's not the only issue I noticed.

Q: Toddler is afraid of robots

torbengbI'm sure the headline made you curious? :-) But I'm serious, and I am not referring to toys but actual household machines. We have a Roomba floor vacuum cleaner and a lawn mower. My 20-month son is afraid of these machines, even when they're parked and turned off. He will back away from them an...

Brilliant

3:54 PM
AND NOW AN ANDROID DEVELOPER. WHERE HAS THE WORLD COME TO?
Oh wait... Hai @OctavianDamiean

@tombstone Who's dog is that?

And perhaps motor repair, on how to get that off the car

Stack Exchange: Here with the answers to the questions you wake up to

@timstone who's dog is that in the reflection of the car. (sorry bout the ping before, iOS "helped" there.)

4:04 PM
It belongs to whoever took the picture, I think.

1 hour later…
5:59 PM
Ah, I hate when UPS lies to me.

I hate when commercial banks are idiotic.

Yeah, that sounds like it has the potential to be even more frustrating. :P

I tried to open a joint chequing account with ING DIRECT.
They want a personalized cheque from my wife in order to verify her identity.
If she had an active chequing account I wouldn't be wanting to open one.

Er yeah, what the hell?

On top of that, our mortgage is through them, so they have piles and piles of copies of our ID and documents signed by lawyers on file.
But they still need that cheque, apparently.

6:02 PM
They don't have a more logical way of checking her identity, like, I dunno, every other form of ID?
Ah, even better.
shakes head

I feel refreshed. Now to write psuedo code that I really am not up for writing.

Hooray.
Time to get lunch so I feel refreshed for my stupid demo.

@Reno it's not up yet? ;)
@TimStone ouch!

probably ... I might fall asleep any moment meow

@jcolebrand Well, it worked, hooray

2 hours later…
9:06 PM
Well, I only missed out on most of the podcast, stupid coworkers and paying jobs :p

@jcolebrand I've got the same problem, stupid deploy grumble grumble

Oh and I just found out about a biggish bug in some shipping software. Tomorrow I get to do integration testing!

Sounds like you're excited. ;)

9:25 PM

It is so true...
=sigh= I guess I should be nice and edit it.
@GeorgeMarian It is all about the "!". It could mean excitement, it could mean sarcasm. Who can say?

Hello

9:46 PM
hullo

@Hogan I assumed sarcasm.

10:07 PM
@jcolebrand I missed out on the whole thing.

10:19 PM
Am I in Hellban on SE?
Or here?
Hey, who'se this drachenstern fellow that has 14 stars and a pin on the sidebar?

@Moshe Hmm, I wonder why messages 642562, 642564 or 642566 don't appear to have been used sitewide.
