Time for trivia! How many SO employees are Twitter-verified?
As the definition of an employee I take stackoverflow.com/company/team
Nick and Joel for sure.
So, for example, Michael Pryor doesn't count (Member of the Board of Directors). Neither does Jeff Atwood
Apparently, three: Alexa, Joel, and Nick.
If Kasra's list can be taken as fairly complete, then that's true.

Wouldn't it be nice if everyone curated their content? stackoverflow.com/posts/30316760/revisions
Sure. But it looks like unpaid work for me to do that for my posts, and I've got enough of the paid kind, so...
Easier to delete the account associated with the posts; then their obsolescence is Somebody Else's Problem.
SEP shield? nice.
My heuristic is to glance at material as it gets upvoted (or commented/downvoted, but that happens much more rarely) and see if I need to update anything.
Wouldn't it be nice if one could sort own posts by the number of views they are getting (all time or in the last month)?
But implementing this also sounds like work for SO devs, so Eh.

Not only is your argument based on an overly simplistic model, your assertion that mods cause deletion is completely wrong. Mods are among the most anti-deletion people on meta. Perhaps familiarizing yourself with the reality here will allow you to analyze complex problems on the site better. — bjb568 24 mins ago
I love just swinging by meta every once in a while and brightening peoples' day.

Yeah, when people complain about "SO mods" they are usually misguided. But I like the idea of time being the judge.
Time and search engines
Q: Why don't we just delete crappy questions?

MD XFSomething that has bothered me ever since I joined the Stack Overflow community is the large number of awful questions. I know that if a question is low quality, it will get closed, but the question still stays on the site cluttering it up unless a moderator or the OP deletes it. So here's my qu...

@AaronHall They want someone who can self-replicate.
@M.A.R. yeah, I was thinking like that:
in The Whiteboard on The Stack Exchange Network Chat, 2 mins ago, by Aaron Hall
You probably could work 3 or 4 yourself, and then you'd want to outsource some of the gigs to India, then you'd be taking on more gigs, more outsourcing, then you hire a manager, then sell your company for 10 million - based on revenue growth.

@ShadowWizard The rainbow caused a lot of hiatus
@zaq theater? @James should know about it.... ;)

Why would a rainbow cause such a thing? :D
The rainbow logo in meta.SO caused a hiatus in doing whatever meta.SO normally did
I guess the references were too obscure

Q: 2016 Stack Overflow Moderator Election Q&A - Question Collection

Grace NoteStack Overflow is scheduled for an election starting next week, November 7th. In connection with that election, we will be hosting a Q&A here for candidates. This will be an opportunity for members of the community to pose questions to the candidates on the topic of moderation. Participation is ...

And... this is it for the time being. No other elections scheduled or even announced... hmm, I wonder why... is a big SO-related announcement coming?
10:03 PM
Lovely, wondered when I'd have the opportunity to downvote candidates.

@hichris123 wut?
hmmm - should I nominate myself for moderator? :D
Three mod positions... stackoverflow.com/election/8
@rene A B C - always be downvoting. ;)
10:18 PM
The 364-day interval between elections #7 and #8 is the second longest in history. The longest was 420 days between 5 and 6 (2014-02-10 to 2915-04-06).
@hichris123 you're so negative lately ...
Well, he's got a point...
I was worried I might not be active enough, but I spend more than 30 minutes per day on the site - so maybe I should nominate myself. Feel free, anyone, to talk me out of it.
Just imagine we are all going to be like that: down vote all the thingz
@rene I'm not sure who I'd end up voting for in an election. A lot of the people I suspect will run I wouldn't want to be mods. Now, if you ran...
@hichris123 11 votes in the month of October?
10:22 PM
@hichris123 why don't you run?
A classification problem: study the statistical traits of the current 19 moderators; identify the users most similar to them in the population.
@rene Not going to be elected and I don't have the time. See @zaq's helpful statistic about how many votes I've cast. :P
you can work on that till the 7th ...
I see no encouragement, but on the other hand, I see no discouragement either.
@AaronHall if you're hiding your communities I would think you're not ready for a mod position
10:29 PM
Why is that?
I do that so that people will see the activity I want front and center.
Because I think a mod needs to be as transparent as possible
Not because I have anything to hide.
I use the same name on all my accounts.
same description too
I only hate that because you make me take more clicks to get to your network account.
I'm just sharing what I see and what kind of idea that brings up with me
exactly. :)
@rene how did you determine that I'm hiding communities?
I'm hiding UX, for example, because I only asked a couple of questions there that blew up.
10:33 PM
I clicked your MSE profile
I'm hiding workplace because I'd rather potential employers see my technical abilities, as opposed to my savvy navigating workplace politics.
I'm a bit disappointed by your number of downvotes looking at your SO profile.
lol, too few?
Yeah, I should downvote more, but we all should.
and your lack of a significant amount of reviews
Let's restrict attention to users with 15K+ rep. There are 6414 of these, of which 19 are mods. That's already problematic, in a needle-in-haystack way. Add former mods to increase the size of the group. What parameters could be relevant to mod-candidacy? # of Meta answers (and their total score), # of answers/edits/upvotes/downvotes/reviews/... various badges that go into candidate score... anything else?
10:35 PM
I'm still much better than average.
Lack of reviews? I've earned 6 gold badges from reviews... :P
given that the average is pretty low given the sheer size ;)
Can't access the close/reopen/delete/undelete vote counts easily...
@zaq do you have my query?
Is it something that can work for 6000 users at once?
@AaronHall this is what I mean: stackoverflow.com/users/541136/…
@zaq let me check
10:39 PM
well, keep in mind that I spend time on other sites too: stackexchange.com/users/258754/aaron-hall?tab=activity
@AaronHall sure, but you're running for moderator on SO and based on your profile you wouldn't have my vote so you better write a pretty good nomination post then to convince me
Yes, extracting that data is a pain, and it's not clear if those votes are really that relevant... after all, mods can be pro- or anti- deletion, and that's fine.
@bjb568 MIT?
But you applied just yesterday...

Speaking of applications, I keep getting rec.letter requests from students who took my (pretty large) Business Calculus class >2 years ago. "Sorry, I've no clue who you are, may as well ask bjb for a recommendation..."
also note that due to the only 2 featured posts the election post doesn't seem to show up in the meta post box at the right due to the current 3 posts with the featured tag
I don't have a problem with that comment. Except for less -> fewer, of course.
Should it be something that nominees should state?
I think the comment is of no consequence. My opinion on it is that it doesn't deserve to be red-flagged, that's as much as I care about it.
I see Patrice left a good comment
