does anyone here have an account on theworkplace? I was just reading an answer that has a dead cross-site link to this (dead). I'm wondering if someone could post a comment to notify the author that the link is dead or edit to give some context.
while I'm at it, does anyone know why that MSE FAQ post was deleted?

6:44 AM
@MetaAndrewT. ah thanks so much for the link!

7:07 AM
Is it allowed in here to post feature-request ideas before making a feature request post on meta to get a feel for what people think / get early feedback?

If you keep it under 6 to 8 feature-requests per week I assume we can cope. If it needs lengthy discussion we might move to another room, when needed.

sounds good.
I just came across this feature request / discussion to enable giving feedback to edit suggestors on how to further improve their edits. I left a reply suggesting making improve-edit/reject-and-edit reviews to be sent as a link to the edit suggestor in an inbox notification. It left me thinking more about ways to incentivize edit suggestors to learn from improvement/replacement-edits made by reviewers.
One idea I thought of was to make it so that if a suggested edit is reviewed via improve-edit, then only give the suggestor 1 rep instead of 2.
Any thoughts? One particular thing I need to think more about is whether that could somehow be abused just to be mean to the edit suggestor (although I don't think that reviewers would be arbitrarily mean like that / hope they wouldn't).
I also am wary of suggesting making some edits worth less rep since from personal experience shared with staff who participated in the community-a-thon, editing is a really really slow way to gain rep already.

7:44 AM
@starball if the suggested-editor shouldn't get rewarded the reviewer should choose "reject and edit". I find myself sometimes touching-up a perfectly fine edit by itself, if a suggested editor gets "punished" for that I might stop doing that which I think is not beneficial for improving content-quality

8:02 AM
@rene That's a good point. I didn't think of that. A devil's-advocate counter might say to that that even your touch-up could be a good learning opportunity / teaching moment for the edit suggestor, but yeah I don't think it would be too hard to imagine edit improvements that I wouldn't necessarily expect the edit suggestor to make.
I'm also not that sure myself to what percentage of edit suggestors this kind of incentive would actually be impactful where it's actually used as a teaching mechanism. I kind of imagine that most edit suggestors are willing to learn and improve if given feedback given that they're volunteering.

TIL you can have an animated avatar
wait a minute >:o
[this says no](https://meta.stackexchange.com/questions/322457/animated-avatars-in-user-profile-and-newsletter). [and this](https://meta.stackexchange.com/questions/272911/can-i-have-an-animated-profile-picture). what. Then how does [this user have one](https://stackoverflow.com/users/13253010/thedemons)

@starball the policy is: it is not allowed. Given SE allows the profile image to be hosted elsewhere they can't technically prevent things falling though cracks. See also this comment: meta.stackexchange.com/questions/322457/… not sure if that is followed up.

@starball I think it's explained in the answer: "content uploaded during [server outage] is the way it is, so removing the gifs now would require the user re-upload the image."

the weird thing is that the anchor element on the user profile has the query parameter that I think is supposed to make the gif locked to a frame, but it's not working
<img src="https://i.sstatic.net/vAdt1m.gif?s=256&amp;g=1" alt="thedemons's user avatar" width="128" height="128" class="bar-sm bar-md d-block">
@MetaAndrewT. data.stackexchange.com/stackoverflow/query/1669802 there are users whose ProfileImageUrl are gifs, but the query parameter in the href on the user profile page gets a non-animated version of the gif
Ex. if you edit the DOM for this profile and remove the ?s=256&g=1, then the gif start animating.
so it's possible that this is an imgur bug?

8:37 AM
I just tried changing the s (size) parameter and it doesn't resize, unlike other working avatars
thus most likely it's uploaded within the server outage (7 August 2018 until 19 April 2019)

ah ok
so now what?

either a mod reset the avatar, or the user reupload the avatar

anything I can/should do?

Maybe you can flag one of their posts for mod attention to describe the issue and request resetting the avatar?

I don't think that's necessary. Even one of the CMs had an animated GIF as an avatar for a very long time.

9:00 AM
@starball it was possible once due to bug in imgur, you just had to upload the gif enough times, until the "peeking duck" bug kicked in, imgur failed to generate thumbnails for it, and used the original instead.
The peeking duck bug still exists, but they don't use the original as fallback anymore.

At least that's what I remember, it was long ago.
@tripleee mod kicked in, right after I flagged.
Probably @Meta ;)
@MetaAndrewT. that's the peeking duck bug, no thumbnails generated.

9:16 AM
@Tinkeringbell "...Who lives in a pineapple under the sea..."
@starball to be fair, I think the query param is exactly what removes the support for animated avatars.
@JNat older Megaman avatar was indeed animated.

@SPArcheon SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS

@Tinkeringbell by now, players are so desperate that average comment on this "beautiful" outfit was "At least I bought Violet so I won't have to wear the striped pants"

@SPArcheon I think for games, online, there's no 'normal' interactions. It's either whining about how a new game isn't good enough (in that case, just don't buy it), or how an update doesn't fix the important stuff and isn't good enough... or it's toxic positivity. No in betweens.

That said I love how they basically tested the Open World thing with Arceus and even went a little "darker" on the setting ("you know that if they banish from the city you will die in the wild, right?"), everyone was hoping for something similar in the main series with an "explorer" felling... and nope, this is an elementary school trip.
@Tinkeringbell to be fair, they have a point to be angry on the removed customization.
Just think how playing online will look now with everyone wearing the same outfit.
Even worse than an invasion of Gokus in Xenoverse

@SPArcheon No, that's exactly it... there's no point to being angry about it. You can be a bit disappointed, you can miss it a little... but in the end it's just a game and if you're going to be angry about that, well, I recommend more exposure to news about the state of the world in general.
Instead of games.

@Tinkeringbell to be fair, that seems a little too drastic imho.
Will I start an expedition to Gamefreak headquarters while wielding a pitchfork because of this? Nope. Will it ruin my day? nope. Will I be kinda mad that they ruined part of a game I was waiting for? Kinda.
At least until I remember Goat Simulator 3 comes out by the end of the month.

9:48 AM
@SPArcheon Yeah, shrug. That's why I usually don't meddle in 'game groups' online. It's either whining about missing features, or toxic positivity ;)

@Tinkeringbell that's just why you forgot the popcorn to eat while reading that.

No popcorn for me, calories = bad.

@SPArcheon you forgot the torch

10:40 AM
@SPArcheon but I don't think that was uploaded to imgur, it was a gravatar instead

@Feeds random collection of blog posts, SE posts, with a tad of advertisement. Just missing onebox to be perfect.

@Feeds DIY mad onebox

one of those blog posts is even partnered content, and not marked in the blog post as partnered content
does promoting partnered/sponsored content in another blog post make the blog post it's promoted in promoted content?

4:45 PM
@KevinB duh
The blog post has direct link to some external tool/service so it's sponsored content by itself, and not marked as such at all.
They make one step forward, two steps backwards.
@KevinB probably.
@JourneymanGeek and that will never happen, not in 100 years and not in 1000 years when home computer will be able to analyze the Big Bang and the whole universe in less than a second.
AI will still be actually dumb.
But hey, let people keep trying and make tons of money while doing it. :D
