12:04 AM
Probably around May 2018 now, so another hour.

12:23 AM
Aren't some elements missing on main site (in responsive-mobile)?
No flag option...
Neither Related and Linked questions tabs.
Also there is some error in 'visit chat'

Desktop mode is fine:

12:45 AM
Pagination in comments(from profile) is also broken :-o

3 hours later…
3:44 AM
@Wolgwang Ah, so that's not just me.
If someone can confirm that you don't have any flag options on mobile, I'd appreciate it.
@Wolgwang I think they're omitted intentionally (and have been for a while) due to page scroll length... but it's worth checking to see.
@Wolgwang I don't see an error with the pagination - can you explain? Are you trying to say that (whoever that is) they don't have 1310 pages of comments?
@ShadowWizardHatesOmicron Seems to be that we moved the chat stuff from NYC to CO and they didn't migrate the indexes... which makes them empty and apparently nothing causes them to regenerate unless we trigger it manually. They're planning to document things to ensure that they migrate the indexes first before moving back to NYC when they do it again, so hopefully it won't happen any time soon :D

@Catija I have flag options on mobile/responsive ._.

3:59 AM
Mobile Safari, maybe?
From what I understand, it's evil.

4:37 AM
@JourneymanGeek Can you check on a site where you have under 250 rep? Just reading Laurel's question on MSE about this. Trying to figure out whether it really is iOS only.
Over 15 but under 250 rep, of course.

Q: Flagging comments in mobile Chrome now requires 250 rep

LaurelOn sites where I have 250+ rep, I can flag normally. On every other site (but only on mobile), the flag icon is gone (not even tapping in the blank space works). Here is a demonstration (I flagged the last comment on desktop): This is kind of an important bug, since I don't want to see people ge...

4:56 AM
Ohhh
Moment

@Catija Nah...One can reproduce it by clicking mobile option.

@Catija can replicate on bricks where I got 153 rep

Before clicking "mobile"
After 'mobile':

OK. So there's something weird going on... but me not being able to flag may be a different issue? Dunno.

5:00 AM
@Catija Twitter dmed you a screenshot. Currently away from PC

@JourneymanGeek Yep. Thanks!

Running a android 12 and chrome 97

@Wolgwang Oh... wow... Yeah. You mind adding this info to an answer?

Ohk

I'm on a Google Pixel 3a (android) and I repro'd on sites where I just have the assoc bonus as well as Community Building and Freelancing where I have over 350 on each.
But not on Arqade where I have over 1k
Feels odd.

5:04 AM
So... I have a guess... a few days ago we got rid of the mobile view, right? But we didn't get rid of the button in the footer... so, what happens when you click the button??? The system seems to get confused... and one of the side effects is... not showing some elements of the page.

@Catija It was working 2-3 days ago .

Yeah, we just got rid of the mobile views a day or two ago.
Oh crap.
DO NOT CLICK THE "MOBILE" BUTTON IN THE FOOTER!!!
6
You can't go back.

D:

It's supposed to switch between mobile and full site... but it thinks you're always on the full site, so there's no way to get back to full site and get the flagging ability back.

Unless one uses SE in incognito XD

5:11 AM
I don't suppose there's a way I can kill the mobile view cookie?

OK, Found and removed the cookie.

@Catija Have you also removed the 'desktop/full site' option?

Me?
Did you mistake me for a dev?
I assure you, if you want the site to continue to exist, you do not want to give me the ability to change code.
@Wolgwang The "full site" option was only available (as far as I'm aware) in the mobile version of the site, so - since you can't get to that any more, you can't get to the "full site" button... is that what you mean?

Yup 😅
@Catija I meant broken pagination.
I thought it was only happening on mobile but it is also reproducible on desktop
Nah! it is happening after clicking 'mobile'.

5:32 AM
@Wolgwang Ah, the boxes are missing.
Yeah, I see that on my phone, too.
I think maybe we need a list of all the things we can find that are broken or missing in this "mobile" version of the full site.
Some of them may be intentional (for example, I think the related questions being MIA is actually by design).

Should I post that profile bug here ?

@Wolgwang Hmmm. Dunno. Let me talk to the Stacks team in the morning. I've already pinged them about there being some discrepancies. It's possible that removing the mobile version will clear everything up at once, so it may not be necessary.

For those who can call JavaScript function, calling StackExchange.switchMobile("off") will switch off "mobile" view.
I think javascript:StackExchange.switchMobile("off") will work.

Thanks :-)

5:55 AM
Hmm. Mobile responsive also seems to hide staff tags on the users listing

Oooh, somewhere I can hide.

@JourneymanGeek Where?

6:19 AM
done a shameless self-answer support post...
2

@cigien also if anyone wants some free helpful flags, a whole bunch of those are still up...

Wait irs working correctly now

Yeah, I didn't have any issues seeing the staff tags (if that's what you mean).

6:50 AM
@RyanM flagged them, one got removed, still a few left
@Catija Doing a late night again?

Always. It's rare I go to sleep before 1 or 2 am.
@cigien gone. Mostly.

@Catija Out of curiosity, shouldn't they have hit rate limits? Or is that only applied by IP, not network account?

7:58 AM
@Luuklag kfc
:D

@ShadowWizardHatesOmicron damn you. I just had breakfast but now I'm hungry again

@Catija I'll bookmark this message and check in one year. ;-)
@Luuklag bows
My pleasure! :P
Well, you can have a coffee...
!!/coffee Luuk

@ShadowWizardHatesOmicron brews a cup of Americano for @Luuk

Reminds me, wanted to make espresso as well, new office got a machine and boss bought some capsules. And, I bought this to go with the coffee:

@ShadowWizardHatesOmicron This could have turned out way worse. Thanks :)

8:03 AM
@Luuklag (:

@ShadowWizardHatesOmicron Looks good.

@Luuklag It is good! Small, but two of those are usually enough for me. For one coffee. ;)

@tripleee flagged but still up
@tripleee kaboom

thanks

@tripleee since you're kind of Smokey, do you have coffee command as well? ;-)

not only that, I can make delicious chicken bites

@tripleee chicken bites
hmm... lagging?
:D

8:25 AM
... but you need sudo, and this is slow food, so allow 1-25h for delivery

lol
Anyway @Luuklag here is my coffee, by now of course it's empty and eaten. ;)

8:38 AM
@ShadowWizardHatesOmicron A while back I had coffee in a cup you could eat. That was pretty fun

@Luuklag huh! From a coffee shop?

yeah

Think you mentioned it before but looks like chat search still isn't 100% back so can't find it. :(

@Luuklag yummy! But doesn't it leak?
Especially when the coffee is hot?

8:42 AM
@ShadowWizardHatesOmicron No, it claims it stays good for about half an hour

@Luuklag claims... but as you actually had one, how was it in reality?

40 minutes even. Well I don't take so long to finish my coffee, and didn't had any complaints

Car companies claim it's doing 30 km/L when it actually doing maybe half....

And the cup tastes a bit like an icecream cone, infused with coffee flavour

@Luuklag nice, and ecologic. :D
Wonder if we have it here.
And if we have those coffee cones for sale in shops, like the icecream cones.

8:45 AM
@ShadowWizardHatesOmicron they do worldwide shipping: cupffee.me

@Luuklag where? Didn't see any link to let me order.
Just "contact us" form.

> SHIPPING WORLDWIDE

Cupffee is avaible in boxes of 200/240 cups or Euro palettes of 9600/8460 cups.
We ship worldwide and offer extremely short production times.

Well "worldwide" does not mean "to every country in the world", sadly. :(
> Unfortunately, we do not ship to your country. If you want to make a request, please contact us.
Probably to some few selected places.
But thanks for checking this out! :D

If you contact them and ask for a pallet full, I bet they'll ship it

@Luuklag 200 cups? that's a risk, probably cost a lot, and might not like it eventually... :/
Will wait until it reach Israel. :D
(I mean officially :))

8:52 AM
@ShadowWizardHatesOmicron 106,57 it states for me. Probably excludes shipping

@Luuklag dollars?? Nah, I'll pass. :)

EUR

@Luuklag Even worse :P

@Luuklag always love how that idea was actually dreamed far before becoming a thing...
At the very best...
@Feeds I am surprised the tooltip doesn't read something like "First, keep data out of the light. Second, never give it any water. Third, most important of all, never feed your data after midnight."

@ShadowWizardHatesOmicron Less than importing a Fluttershy figure from Amazon.jp, but I wouldn't put the coffee pallet on display on the bookshelf

4 hours later…
2:10 PM
@RyanM I think they're IP based. Should be in the complete rate limiting guide.
> Users with < 125 rep on the current site, 40 minutes since their last question anywhere on the network (This applies to the user's IP address, not their account. If the user shares that IP with other users, they can be limited by the other user asking a question anywhere on the network; similarly, if the same user posts a question from a different IP address, they may not be limited.)

Looks like the last was the case then.

2:28 PM
@Catija Thank you.

Mmmm I'm thinking we're about do for a canonical: What to do when your post containes code that isn't formatted as code

1 hour later…
3:33 PM
format it as code

4:32 PM
Looks like the flags on comments on mobile should be back - I see them on my phone.

i'm on desktop (i think?) and can't flag comments on mso
errr, nvm, i'm blind
i was looking in the wrong place
i was looking for a "Flag" text link next to edit

@Catija Yep, can confirm.

Cool. :)

Thanks for being quick on the draw to relay the problem to the engineers. :D

@Catija What about related and linked questions tab?
And have they intentionally squeezed the "visit chat" tab?

4:50 PM
Over the next week or so (by the end of the month) we'll be removing all of the customizations for mobile views across the product so that we only have the one "full site" view. As we remove those mobile checks, all of these little problems should disappear.
That means (I think) that the linked questions and chat boxes should appear the same in the future on mobile as they do on the full site, but follow the break points for the page (so they'll appear under the answers).

@Catija That doesn't include chat, correct?

Mobile chat isn't going anywhere, as far as I'm aware.

that's good

Yeah, full site chat may have more features but it's way more difficult to use on a phone.

@Catija That 'mobile' option in the footer too, right?

4:56 PM
@Mithical Confirmed, any changes to chat to make it responsive will be a separate project, that isn't on anyone's radar at the moment, so the mobile view will stick around.
@Wolgwang Correct. That's going to be removed entirely.

(thumbsup) Chat could use some love, but definitely not high on the priority list.

if a chat redesign doesn't come with a built-in dark mode, it's going to be irrittating

Just parent all of your rooms in SFF chat?
Theming makes dark mode difficult. If we did it, we'd have to ignore the per-site themes in chat.

Simple: If you press the "dark mode" button, your view defaults to SFF for the entire network.

^
only need 1 dark mode theme
let light mode be per site if you must, but dark mode is... well, dark,
personally i'd rather all chat rooms be under the same domain so i can just have one browser tab for all of them

5:00 PM
(Although I made the Restaurant and SFF even darker mode using userscripts... especially the lighter top bar, that drives me crazy.)

my current dark mode applies the same design for each site, except for link color
links here are blue, so are orange, etc
pretty sure it was built for SO chat and just happens to work well elsewhere

I think Porkchat has a dark mode? But I stopped using it because it broke things that I needed.
@KevinB As a note, this can't happen. Apparently it would break the tables completely. So, as far as I'm aware, we will have three servers forever.

maybe... when the time comes, it'd be time to break the tables completely
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
if the goal is to just stick a new design on it, i can see wanting to avoid that
but the design is hardly the only problem with chat

I mean... chat IDs are global per server. This message has another message with an identical ID on chat.so and chat.se.... so trying to merge makes it necessary to re-assign numbers consistently to every message, sometimes more than once (replies, quotes, links, etc)... That's probably possible but it sounds really difficult.
I'm also not Nick Craver, and he uses words I don't understand, so I'm probably doing a terrible job of explaining why it's not possible.
It'd also require us to find all chat links across the network and edit them to the new URLs... or else risk breaking them.
That sounds like a lot of work. I'd rather we fix chat in a myriad of other ways before trying to fix that one.

One annoying 🪲 :
Jan 27 at 14:39, by Wolgwang
I was logged out of SE.
I joined a room say [this](https://chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/13752/mathjax?).
I clicked "logged in" and it redirected me to meta login page.
And after submitting the credentials there, it redirected me back to that room (with some numbers in the URL `https://chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/13752/mathjax?_=1304610XXX`
I turned on desktop mode and then it redirected me to Meta.SE homepage.
Is this intentional or a bug?

5:36 PM
Now that the mobile site is undeployed and the app no longer works (on Android 12), I need to be careful to not exhaust my daily mobile data allowance next time I travel to India...

6:16 PM
@Luuklag gone
@rene gone
@Rob gone

6:34 PM
90 messages moved to Chimney

6:50 PM
@Catija I think the project would be: redesign chat
@SonictheAnti-NewVariant-hog sounds like the solution is to NOT travel to India
Or get an RSS feed to read your questions

@Catija ah right, thanks!

Q: Please don't completely remove the mobile website, for the benefit of users on slow connections

Sonic the Anti-New Variant-hogA Stack Exchange employee just said the following regarding the mobile site: We are actively working on the responsive design that works on both desktop and mobile, based on screen size. Once that is finished and perfected, mobile web will be slated for complete removal. I was recently visiting...

A: Deprecating our mobile views

Sonic the Anti-New Variant-hogCan reducing the bandwidth of page loads please be made a higher priority? As I posted 1.5 years ago, one of the key uses for the mobile site was so that users on slow Internet connections (dial-up, 2G, any connection less than 1 megabit/s) could access the site and have it load in reasonable tim...

Sadly, due to our dated laws, it's difficult for my relatives to come here. My uncle was denied a tourist visa several times.

i mean
why not make the non-mobile view friendly to your situation
i'm sure everyone can benefit from the site overall being less heavy.

8:32 PM
@KevinB You don't want the full jQuery download on each page?

not specifically

Can't that be cached?

it being cached doesn't reduce the initial footprint

8:56 PM
@KevinB That's what the second link is requesting

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
i don't necessarily agree with that route
i don't think requesting something be... of higher priority, really does anything to accomplish goals. Words are easy.

9:50 PM
type "install google" into your taskbar
"Download Now"
lol
err, i ended up in the wrong chat tab

dangers of making them all look the same

we can do socvr here as well ...
I see how you got here ;)

;)
if they were all in the same window, them looking the same wouldn't be a problem
just change room

is this disguised spam? meta.stackexchange.com/questions/376363/… or just off-topic

@Vickel It doesn't seem promotional to me, the website name just seems to give context. I just voted to close.

@Spevacus I flagged it as off topic, as I have <3k here I cannot CV. Anyway I was also curious if this could be seen as a spam attempt, but I should have trusted the TLD .org, I guess :)
