Morning :)

@Tinkeringbell yeah, that works. :D

@ShadowWizardWearingMask It's Tinkeringbell.... I don't die when I get no attention.... oh wait.

6:46 AM
I (read: my mobile data) just got blocked from accessing chat.SE while main sites could still be accessed :/

Well when you're Tinkering, you can't do other stuff so it's a problem. ;)

It made me realized... when main sites are down, I go to chat to ask. But when chat is down, I go to chat to... ask?

@MetaAndrewT. Nah, you can ask on main, have someone share your post in chat and then downvote it ;)

7:02 AM
@MetaAndrewT. reminds me of a critical error during handling a critical error.

that looks like a nightmare...

Swimming pool for the ice cube...
:P

That doesn't look healthy.

It could be milk coffee with basil.

@Tinkeringbell Other people die when people start chanting "I don't believe in macaws"?

@JourneymanGeek We should try that.

@Tinkeringbell which part? ;)

10:25 AM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask All of it.

It's an instant coffee with water, milk, and a single ice cube. ;)

color, the gunky bits, the icecube...

Gunky bits are because it's cold, the powder did't dissolve so well. o.p
Color is ordinary instant coffee color. :D
The icecube is just frozen water (really! Just water! ;)) so can't be unhealthy on its own..... :D

Yeah well.. you enjoy your cup of poison ;)

yummy
Well it accompanied a big roll with scrambled eggs.

10:28 AM
That part sounds better :)

oh wow that latest spam (post 353263, won't link here) contains such accurate instructions, it's amazing. Doctors give much less details. lol
> In addition, it is essential to note that you are eating healthy and avoiding junk food. In addition, you need to exercise regularly, as it will help you be healthier and reduce the fat in your body.

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Over here, they'd give you those instructions when picking the stuff up from the pharmacy :P

Well thank you, anonymous spammer, for making my life better! :D
@Tinkeringbell yeah, well, here the doctor give a short summary, the pharmacist repeat it, and only if asked give more details.
Though so far I didn't need anything really complex, so dunno. :)
@Ryan that's a beautiful avatar you got there... how did you make it?
It also really stands out with its colors, now between the dog and the parrot. :D

@ShadowWizardWearingMask It's nowhere near red enough :P
(I like it too, it's very cheerful :) )

10:38 AM
Afternoon

there's a battery powered tool that woeks well for this

@Tinkeringbell you're red enough for all of us. ;)

Red is overrated

kick!

I wonder if it's a mix of the pride flag?
Or just random colors?

10:39 AM
Ducks
upwards

@M.A.R. downwards

@ShadowWizardWearingMask then the kick would hit me in the back

@M.A.R. not yet
Here it's not After yet

🦆

@DavidPostill tiny duck?

10:40 AM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Wow, are we three hours apart?
I thought it was just one

@ShadowWizardWearingMask duckmoji

💥

🦜 is apparently appropriate

@JourneymanGeek sure, I had a plastic shaker for this, but it broke when a co-worker threw a cabinet on it.

though the lack of terrier emoji is an outrage

10:42 AM
@DavidPostill thanks, but too much work. ;)

@ShadowWizardWearingMask That was one angry co-worker

what did the shaker do to your coworker?

@JourneymanGeek nothing, it was an innocent victim.
The cabinet's door hit his head.

A LIKELY STORY SIR!
It was clearly an accessory to this violence!

HULK לרסק

10:44 AM
meh... the cabinet door was half broken for years.... the wooden cabinet was attached loosely to the wall.... when the door hit his head, he grabbed the door and tried to take it out, but, well, it caused the whole cabinet to fall. Anything inside it and below it crashed.

That is what they want you to think

About 5 cups survived, out of 15.

All according to plan

Natural selection running its course

10:46 AM
After chilling out, he fixed the cabinet and the door. ;)

Now the remaining cups and their offsprings will be stronger

@ShadowWizardWearingMask It's all in the planning, I brew real coffee in advance (and let it cool overnight) and keep a couple of flasks chilled in the fridge ready to make proper iced coffee. As long as I brew the coffee at the same rate as I drink it I have a ready supply in my fridge.

@M.A.R. amazingly enough, the oldest cups survived. They're 15+ years old.

Cups these days

lol but they were also made in China.
@M.A.R. huh?
HULK isn't לרסק
@M.A.R. looks like 1.5 hours, isn't it 3:15 PM for you now? It's hardly afternoon... ;)
@M.A.R. but you didn't rotate

10:55 AM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask It's supposed to mean "smash". Oh. Do you say "Smashes Hulk" like in Arabic?

@M.A.R. not sure what's your intention? You want to say "Someone big that smash things"?

@ShadowWizardWearingMask I wanted to say "HULK SMASH"

hmm
So that would be HULK המרסק

But in Hebrew. That was the joke

You were missing the "×”"

10:58 AM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask What is it?
A dangling pronoun?

It's a letter
:D

Or a third person singular marker?

@M.A.R. ur face are dangling
:P

NO U DANGLING

@M.A.R. And proud of it! :D

10:59 AM
couthness lvl -1

Anyway it's the equivalent of "the", but re-reading what you said, you were correct all along. It's not needed when you want to say "HULK SMASH".
+1 to you, Mr. מר

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Well, "Hulk Smash" is supposed to be ungrammatical, emulating the behavior of a brute

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Python! Thanks, I'm glad you like it :-) it's the design of my original Gravatar identicon, but with...somewhat more color :-)

@M.A.R. yup
@RyanM awesome! So, not related to the pride flag? :)

That's a very weird-shaped flag
Hmm, I remember Ryan M from somewhere squints

11:02 AM
@M.A.R. long lost friend?

@ShadowWizardWearingMask It is also related to the pride flag :-) I was originally going to use the exact colors listed on the Wikipedia page, but they ended up being too dark, so I brightened the green/blue/purple up a bit

@RyanM well done.
On all aspects. :)

though looking at the page I'm now wondering if the colors listed differ from the SVG image...nope, optical illusion. They match.

Can you turn @M.A.R's avatar to something like that? ;)

@ShadowWizardWearingMask sorry, my python isn't good enough to render a cat ;-)

11:06 AM
Sigh of relief
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Well, I haven't met @Ryan I think, but they're very familiar for some reason
Maybe read a lot of their comments 👀

that is possible. I've posted a lot of them...although we have very little overlap in frequented sites. I'm in Charcoal HQ often, maybe that's why?

@RyanM lol
I don't think @M.A.R frequent Charcoal? Or maybe he is? ;)
Now that's a boring spam. yawns

@ShadowWizardWearingMask I'm one of the old-timers relocates badass cigar on lips
Middle timers if you count the Jurassic era of Charcoal

Huh? Not nuked yet?

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Someone had VTC'd

11:12 AM
@M.A.R. meh, happens quite often.

You'd think meta.SE regulars are all pros huh

sdc alive

@RyanM Kinda sorta

@M.A.R. kudos!
@M.A.R. pros and cons, yeah. :D

it was nuked sometime between SD posting in Charcoal and me trying to hit the spam button a couple seconds later when it showed up in there

11:13 AM
@RyanM it did when I reported, no?

@ShadowWizardWearingMask chewing noises

@RyanM It's a wild wild west up there son
You're either the quick or the dea . . . the person who doesn't get to flag

@JourneymanGeek R.I.P user835511

@ShadowWizardWearingMask oh you're right. I wonder why it didn't pick it up the first time, that's odd... it had three detections.

Enjoy @Journeyman's teeth for all eternity. :P

11:15 AM
Blows away gun smoke

I shall move my speculation to CHQ :-p

@RyanM I asked about it few times, it's something with quota.
So any spam report might delay for up to 15 minutes from what I remember.

aahhhh. It must be batching post scans for MSE

Yeah might be ^

there's a bunch of config that I tried to work out the usage of once and completely failed.

11:20 AM
Yeah it's complex.

@M.A.R. the trick to getting helpful flags on MSE is to not have enough MSE rep to vote to close :-)

@RyanM Eh, I guess the count doesn't matter much here anyway. Not like there's going to be an election to run for mod or anything

Yep, and also not enough flaggable content to run out
also I somehow doubt I'd be in the running for MSE mod :-)

Here at Stack Overflow, we recently held our first Community-a-thon event. We wanted our employees to learn more about the SE network and how it feels to use it so they can get a better sense of what it’s like to be a user here.

What was Community-a-thon again?
Such beautiful rhythm to the word
My insides reverberate with every syllable

Q: What obstacles to overcome for the Post-Corona-StackOverflow-Glutton-And-Fairy-Roast festival?

YunnoschAdmittedly the idea was born out of spite: Build a one-digit number But I think our community is creatively committed (not to say crazy) enough to make this happen. Let's set up a face-to-face meeting with nice eating. Fairies will be earnestly scolded but otherwise treated cordially. Paying for ...

Today is filled with great words. "Post-Corona-StackOverflow-Glutton-And-Fairy-Roast"
Also what do they think we did before the quarantine. It was not like we threw parties and were whimsical on every turn. Trump was escalating conflict into war.

11:49 AM
@M.A.R. Is that 'fairies' as in wikipedia list of lgbt slurs fairy?
@M.A.R. I'll throw a post-corona housewarming party. You're welcome, but please book an appointment months in advance so I can make sure to clean :P

@Tinkeringbell No need, as a fellow dirty-roomer, I'm perfectly aware of the complication that entails
As a bonus, even the vacuum cleaner is contributing to my room's dirtiness
Move aside newbs.

I'm so getting myself a roomba-like cleaner :D
that and a crumbthief should do :)

@Tinkeringbell Huh, now that may well be possible, but I think the tone is meant to be lighthearted, in an old-fashioned way

I, too, can confirm that one can in fact make a mess using a vacuum cleaner that comes with a sufficient number of attachments...
@Tinkeringbell that is an impressively thorough list...

@M.A.R. Hmm. I put up a flag nonetheless, let the mods figure it out. In combination with the scolding it sounds a bit off to me...
I might just be modding things for too long though.
@RyanM Ugh. Ours is old and the attachment compartment no longer has a lid... so the attachment are always in places where they aren't supposed to be ;)

11:54 AM
@Tinkeringbell Mine is fancy, streamlined, and does not come with any storage for attachments :D

@M.A.R. sure it's not from the phone you ate?

so they end up, erm, everywhere...
It is the one flaw in an otherwise excellent vacuum.

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Hmm

@RyanM on the ceiling too?
@M.A.R. hrm

@RyanM Cordless?
cordless sounds soooo good.

11:56 AM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask No, if they were on the ceiling it'd probably make them easier to find...

@RyanM Oh. Idea! Velcro XD

@Tinkeringbell Yep. One of the Dyson ones. It's nice, since I have a small place, it has more than enough power.
@Tinkeringbell that is...actually a really good idea.

@RyanM To put things on the ceiling, I meant :P Not to attach it to the vacuum cleaner :P

11:58 AM
Attach the ceiling to the vacuum cleaner

@RyanM hair dryer?

@Tinkeringbell I was thinking maybe to attach them to a closet wall or something :-p

Is it heavy? I've been wanting a cordless vacuum for my apartment, but I keep thinking it might be more heavy than one with a cord? Because the cordless ones usually also have the vacuuming part not on the ground...

@ShadowWizardWearingMask I have thus far managed to not buy a $300 hairdryer

@RyanM That should work too ;)

!!/tea

@Spevacus brews a cup of darjeeling tea for @Spevacus

@RyanM good for you! ;)

@Tinkeringbell My kitchen scale claims it's about 1.6kg with one of the smaller attachments
it'd be a little heavier with the bit that extends to the ground, but getting that on the scale might be challenging
That 1.6kg includes the vacuuming part though

12:04 PM
That seems a bit low, but it's probably not more than 5lb or so.
I was about to say I don't have anything to calibrate the scale, but actually that's not true...
okay, scale is approximately accurate, so it really is about 1.6kg

@RyanM Hmm. That sounds lighter than our vacuum feels, but I've never weighed ours XD

@RyanM so you have Dyson V7 Trigger? That's the only one I saw with such a weight.

@ShadowWizardWearingMask I believe I have this one: dyson.com/sticks/dyson-v8-absolute-yellow.html
I think some of the weight specs include the stick and one of the floor attachments
The stick and the attachment in the picture add another 1kg or so
so that checks out

12:17 PM
Designs like that make me wonder why they put the vacuum part up high, and not low... now it seems you have to lift a lot more... Somehow a design like this seems much more sensible to me!

half the time I'm using it to dust furniture...then I'm glad the vacuum part is close to my hand

@Tinkeringbell uhh mechanics!
you actually need less force cause levery sciency stuff

I don't do levery sciency stuff :P
I would think the stick kinda acts as a lever to push/pull the weight that's on the ground instead of acting as a lever for lifting O.o
@RyanM Yeah, then it's really useful... that's why I've been considering getting one too. Ease of use, just suck the crumbs of the counters instead of trying to wipe them up without getting them on the ground.

Yup. No more trying to dust furniture and getting dust everywhere else.
I'd recommend it, but I'd also recommend waiting for a sale...they do go on sale every once in a while.
...actually, that might be a legitimate sale going on right now.
Dyson's model numbering is...confusing

@Tinkeringbell Think about where the centre of gravity is. It's much easier to move the sucky end when the biggest part of the mass is near your hand. The total mass is the same.

12:29 PM
@RyanM Eh, I will probably buy one as soon as I actually move... my current room is already full of boxes of stuff that will need to move too, I don't think I have room to store a vacuum :D
@DavidPostill That makes sense. Even though I still think lifting it will eventually feel heavier than just pushing it back and forth on a few wheels, if that makes sense? If you put a heavy thing on wheels, and push, I can usually get it farther than when I have to lift it...

@Tinkeringbell There are wheels on the long floor extension and also wheels on the shorter handheld extension:)
If the motor was on the floor end you couldn't transform it into a handheld device ...

you could put a stick on the handheld part, and then rub the handheld part over the floor? :P

@DavidPostill technically they are the same extensions, but with an extension stick in the middle

@RyanM Hmm. But there are also the mini attachments which you would only use handheld ...

@DavidPostill Sometimes I don't feel like being on the floor when cleaning along the baseboards...or between the bed & the wall where I can't fit the entire vacuum

12:45 PM
Fair enough.

@RyanM Or just getting cobwebs out of the corners near the ceiling (I'm too short to reach otherwise :P)

I'd be worried I'd suck up the spiders

There aren't any spiders around here to be scared of.

I'd worry I'd hurt them
not of their retaliation.

1:04 PM
@JohnDvorak why? For them it would like roller coaster. Then you can always take them out of the cleaner and place them back in their natural position. :)

As a kid, I used to feed the spiders in my room.

I... disabled... flies... and put them near the spider.

£14.99

Release outside ...

for the birds ...

> Remove spiders and other creepy crawlies without harm
Extra-long 100cm handle gets to hard-to-reach places
Easy trigger handle operates the flexible bristles
@rene Or the cats :)

Even if the spiders didn't mind gale force winds tossing them around narrow tubes, they surely wouldn't like the bath in dirt-water.

@JohnDvorak Oh. Ours aren't smart enough to worry about that either.

1:07 PM
@JohnDvorak water in a vaccum cleaner?

@ShadowWizardWearingMask yes
better than baggies.

Well didn't know about it, and yeah, spiders probably won't swim.

mag
I have a cautious understanding with the spider in my fern

@DavidPostill pretty sure that in reality it's really not that easy to do.

mag
It doesn't leave the fern and gets to feed on the flies passing by, and I get less flies buzzing round' the room

1:10 PM
@JourneymanGeek I'm too quick! ;D

@mag huh? What happened? :(
Why you cactus no more?

Some can, but we're talking about "barely float atop placid lake", rather than "navigates a whirlpool with ease"

@mag well, that's good! Win win situation. :)

mag
1:12 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask i'm laying low for a while

@mag sorry to hear. If you want to share, here, or anywhere else, I'll do my best to listen. :)

mag
nothing sinister

Sure, otherwise you'd not be here right now.

Hunting cane toads? Now that's impressive.

1:14 PM
I reverted to just a Shadow when I took a break too.
Though don't remember what avatar I chose back then?
@mag one question then: anything related to SE happened, or personal?

mag
something else

@DavidPostill well those won't be in a room where @John might accidentally suck them with a cleaner.
;)

TIL some spiders actually sail the ocean.

@JohnDvorak with little boats?

In other news:
> Germany has reported its highest daily infection rate for the coronavirus since April
Spain and Italy also logged their highest daily figures in months on Wednesday and cases are rising steadily in France

1:16 PM
Six legs for balance, two legs high up in the air to catch wind

@DavidPostill same here, for long time, yeah. :/
@JohnDvorak what they eat? Fish?

And then there are those cuties en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diving_bell_spider
@ShadowWizardWearingMask I suppose so, or maybe they don't eat during migrations

mag
@DavidPostill schools have opened up in most of the country by now i'm my own complete lack of surprise
fall is gonna suck hard

@mag Which country?

all of them

1:23 PM
Schools here are a complete mess, nobody knows how it will work.

mag
@DavidPostill Germany
Some school districts require students and teachers to wear masks at all times in school premises
I heard of one that has banned lunch

o_O
Starving kids is a sure way to make them learn harder.

Some kids will be able to bring lunch from home ... and some of them will be able to keep it for long enough to eat it.

1:42 PM
Food fight!
Here kids don't bring lunch from home, if they have to learn after noon school should provide it.
Though not sure what's going on with Corona, my kids just come back early since it all began.

They don't have fulltime home class?

Rob
They banned peanut butter long ago, that (amongst others things) spoiled lunch. Best to live near school (when you are very young) so you can go home for lunch.

mag
@JohnDvorak Over here they're commited to reopening schools in person

@JohnDvorak nope.

In here, in person presence is optional

1:47 PM
@Rob here in many school milk is banned due to allergic kids.
Thanks to bamba snack, Israeli kids are pretty much almost without allergy to peanuts. ;)

Rob
Jeez, go to allergic school with all the other allergic kids; let us eat our lunch.

lol
Well if a kid might die from food allergy, better safe than sorry...

Rob
If people don't wash well enough for corona who's gonna risk exposure to peanuts and milk, etc.

mag
@Rob Eh, I haven't heard of that being a thing here but I know that many schools in the US are completely nut free and milk free and some with even more wacky restrictions, due to liability concerns.

The real test is during parties: kids bring all sorts of snacks, including diary snacks.

1:51 PM
@mag I know that it was the task of the lunch supervisor to oversee that kids weren't trading snacks back when I used to oversee a class of kids at lunchtime back in university.
(Worst job I ever had).

@Rob meh, this was long before Corona.
@Tinkeringbell well paid, at least? ;)

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Yeah, otherwise I would've never done it!

Rob
Even if the school bans everything the kid still can't go anywhere else, like the theatre, store, playground, anywhere.

My worst job was.... hmm.... didn't really have any. I did't suffer in any job. :)

You don't have to suffer for something to be the worst so far ;)

1:52 PM
@Tinkeringbell and, you got free snacks! :D
(those who took from the kids.... ;))

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Nope...

How come?! Surely some tried to trade?

No taking snacks from the kids. Just making sure they ate their sandwiches, their snack, and then went outside to play.

@Tinkeringbell was it a written rule?

Actually, they knew they weren't allowed to, so just looking at them sharing/trading snacks was usually enough to put a stop to it :D

1:53 PM
> You Shall Not Take Snacks from the Kids

@ShadowWizardWearingMask There were... many rules. But yes, one of them was making sure the kids ate all their own food... which implies I couldn't take anything away since then they wouldn't have eaten all of their food :P

@Tinkeringbell well they could trade snacks in the toilets. :D

mag
Our teachers didn't even care when people were snorting this fizz powder you put in your drink

@ShadowWizardWearingMask We're talking 6 year olds.

@Tinkeringbell So? They can be smart little devils.... :P

1:55 PM
They didn't get to go to the toilet before they finished their lunch, or if they went, only 1 at a time ;)

mag
I never had a job before software development

mag
maybe I should have tried retail at some point

@mag didn't want any, or wanted but didn't find?

mag
had no need for it

@Tinkeringbell so that they couldn't exchange information on what not to eat?

Good point, @mag

mag
was living at home, I made enough from occasional work for classmates to not need more money

@mag I feel like that problem is, shall we say, self-correcting...

@JohnDvorak Probably just to prevent water fights and make sure they would actually return XD

mag
1:56 PM
@RyanM One guy had to go to the hospital for out of control nosebleeds

@Tinkeringbell oh wow that's strict. lol

mag
from a year or more of snorting stuff you put in your drink to fizz it up through the nose

How does one at a time prevent escapes? It only makes it so that if one does escape, nobody else can pee for the whole day.

...okay, so I was going to say that that's a surprisingly severe reaction, but a year?!

Snorting you mean inhale through the nose? @mag

1:57 PM
That really seems like plenty of time to realize that that's a terrible idea...

I had a kid in the class who inhaled eraser fluid.

@JohnDvorak It limits the damage, police only have to search for 1 instead of several :P

The snorting starts at an early age. I recall my mom yelling at me Don't snort the Lego

@JohnDvorak guess there is some timeout, e.g. 15 minutes until the kid is declared as "gone". ;)

@ShadowWizardWearingMask nah, one can legitimately spend 15 minutes in a bathroom

1:59 PM
@rene Snorting Legos. That's how they hook you.

Rob
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Cuz that's where you want to handle food - that's the whole idea of not trading, you don't know the preparation conditions or ingredients.

@JohnDvorak at 6 years old? Nah.

@Rubiksmoose certainly addictive ..

I look away for two minutes and you guys are talking about snorting legos...
