Q: Daily maximum reviews for suggested edits prevents me from editing a post with a pending suggested edit

phdToday, I finished reviewing 40 items in the Suggested Edits queue at Stack Overflow, and switched to the First Posts queue. There was a question that I tried to edit, but it already had a pending suggested edit by another user. It redirected me to that user's suggested edit, but I could not edit ...

The highest rep user on AP answered 1,000 questions exactly.
@SonictheMaskedWerehog thanks

Q: When is a review task marked "completed"?

ManishearthI've noticed that the number of reviews required to remove a post from a queue varies. For example, to accept/reject a suggested edit, you need two votes of the same kind. If the votes are conflicting, the number goes higher. This seems to be the case for the other queues as well. (Additionally, ...

@SonictheMaskedWerehog how come there's no activity found?

Whenever I want to find a solution to a problem on SO, I use Google search to search my question, then click on the most relevant SO link. I find the SO search engine unreliable.

@Spevacus great

1:11 AM
@JourneymanGeek Can moderators see when a user chooses to ignore another user in chat?

@AnnZen It'll post reports that haven't received feedback in a little while. Most of the time, SO posts get nuked pretty quickly.

@Spevacus great

1:25 AM
@AnnZen yesterday Smokey posted approximately 80 SO posts (approx cause I didn't optimize the query I used to find that so might be tad off)

@LinkBerest I know smokey posts them in SOCVR room. I'm asking about this room.

Then the last one was in December of 2015
unless you count stackoverflow in other languages

@LinkBerest lol!

...to be fair 2015 is about when the close review room on SO started taking off (if I recall) so that probably has a lot to do with it
though the fact that I think that might be due to bias as that's also when I started using SO

2:01 AM
@AnnZen yes

2:16 AM
@DavidPostill Gee, I never noticed that you're a moderator!

@DavidPostill you've been made! run!

@AnnZen Not in here ...

@DavidPostill i know
@Rubiksmoose ?

@Rubiksmoose I can run, but I can't hide!

@AnnZen (I was pretending that David was trying to hide that he was a mod)

2:20 AM
lol

We don't like those SuperUser mods in here... ;)
Ahem... Don't tell JMG I said that.

@Spevacus did you make that up?

@AnnZen Yeah, haha. I'm just joking.

I was just happy to have enough rep to vote in the election for a new mod on Math.SE.

So many elections. So many new-ish virtual faces

@Rob Is the election coming soon?

Darn mods and their darn chill spaces.
Hangin' out and getting to know each other.

Rob
It started hours ago,.

@AnnZen Final phase just started.

2:24 AM
@Spevacus You mean private chat rooms?
@Rob Oh.

@Spevacus don't forget conspiring! It's where we arrange all of our Illuminati meetings as well.

@AnnZen Mhm. Just messing about, still. Innocuous humor at the expense of those with diamonds.
@Rubiksmoose I knew it!

Oh no, I've said too much. I've go to g----

@MetaAndrewT. Hi, mod.

Rob
@AnnZen You're less than 50 points away from being able to vote; there's lots of time left.

2:29 AM
@Rob I don't know any of the candidates, so...

Rob
Yes, that's the reason.

@Rob do you?

Perfect time to go learn about them in their questionnaires, then grab some rep and vote!

Rob
^ 👏

I'm not a math person, though Rob seems to be. Your answers over there are pretty intricate...
(Not stalking your profile or anything)

Do suspended users appear like cdn-chat.sstatic.net/chat/img/anon.png in chat?

Rob
@Spevacus That's the super easy math site, check out the brain smashers at MO.SE.

@Rob So questions too easy for that site will get migrated to mathematics. Sounds funny.

@Tinkeringbell More like, it's time to sleep here, but I'm about 3-4 time zones behind in sleep patterns

@SonictheMaskedWerehog Ah. That's no good.
Put away the screen and close your eyes, at least?

Afternoon folks

Afternoon! :)

How's it going?

Right now I'm wishing our corporate e-mail had a 'thanks' button :P
I'm getting e-mails and it feels weird to e-mail back a 'thank you', but I also do want to let people know I read and understood the mail...
And over there?

@Tinkeringbell I do miss the Discord-style reactions thing at times

@Mithical All you ever do is squint

10:02 AM

@Tinkeringbell send "."
At least that's what my profs did

@Mithical That'd be nice too, then I could send cat faces as reactions :P

if we were on Discord I'd use the :nyeh: emoji I added

@Mithical I have to look that one up. I don't use the custom ones that much.
/at all

Are you on the Meta discussion server?

10:05 AM
Nope. Just the one where we put some IPS people.

I don't think so
@Tinkeringbell Oooh seekrit
So all the days I pop in and see chirping they're plotting against me in that Discord . . .

@M.A.R. Not that sekrit, and most of what's done there is sharing memes :P
Saves some space in the IPS chat ;)

"West Pakistan (now Bangladesh)" Surely you mean East Pakistan? — CJ Dennis 7 hours ago
Lol you don't know how many times I check where East and West are everytime I mention them in chat or elsewhere

Luckily I live in a place where the Wild West is west of me, and Middle East is east of me.

Such places are generally good places to live ;)

And where is close by East?

Eh, Japan isn't a bad place to live either, is it?

I live in a place where the wild west is probably as much west as is east, so it gets confusing.
@JohnDvorak No it makes your eyes grow big and your nose shrink

10:18 AM
Near East is still south-east of me

Some pulmonary problems probably, and eye diseases would be common

I mean, far too much light pollution, hotel rooms so small you barely fit into them, frequent earthquakes... but at least the government isn't trying to kill you.

@rene Near East was often used to indicate the area around Turkey in archaeology class ;)

Mar 11 '19 at 8:01, by M.A.R. ಠ_ಠ
We have East and West Azerbaijan provinces here, I always have to double check which one is the one on the left

10:21 AM
@JohnDvorak I'd have to look up the syllabus but I got the impression the two were treated as two different areas back when.

I'm curious

"Near East" is probably like "oh those people are cool, not like the weirdos that are farther, weird cultures and stuff"
@JohnDvorak Katanas
And "NANIIIII"

@M.A.R. those are for killing not-you :p

@JohnDvorak Might just be the fieldwork instead. If you want to dig, look up the leiden university archeology track online, for the near east ;)
But I don't seem to remember any fieldwork in e.g. Iran or Afghanistan.

@Tinkeringbell fair. How was Twente indicated?
Too near east

10:27 AM
@rene As not having any archeological history worth investigating ;)

How do you define archeological history worth investigating?
The interesting bits were kept with oral tradition until people decided on a writing system

Isn't that an insult to Twente?

that people only went there after they started writing down things?
but then again, haven't there been Celts in the area?
It's on the straight path from Germany to England
... but then again, the interesting bits have been preserved in oral tradition.

@rene maaaaybe?
@JohnDvorak pictures, artefacts and UFO landing places can also explain a lot ;)

UFO landing places?
You mean that one pagan temple / oversized calendar? ;p

10:37 AM
The Pyramids

I probably should've said archeological records, instead of history. History is different
@JohnDvorak yeah, you know... Anytime you find something you can't place it's either ritual or aliens or both ;)

The Pyramids weren't made by the Celts
@Tinkeringbell fair.

Stonehenge

That's the oversized calendar

@JohnDvorak says who? Maybe they learned how to build Stonehenge through an elaborate study abroad system with internships hauling pyramid rocks in Egypt!

10:40 AM
The Pharaoh was too proud to let his final resting place be an outside job ... instead, his resting place became the sea.

That's what the boats are for :)

Rob
Thor Heyerdahl (Norwegian pronunciation: [tuːr ˈhæ̀ɪəɖɑːl]; 6 October 1914 – 18 April 2002) was a Norwegian adventurer and ethnographer with a background in zoology, botany and geography. Heyerdahl is notable for his Kon-Tiki expedition in 1947, in which he sailed 8,000 km (5,000 mi) across the Pacific Ocean in a hand-built raft from South America to the Tuamotu Islands. The expedition was designed to demonstrate that ancient people could have made long sea voyages, creating contacts between societies. This was linked to a diffusionist model of cultural development. Heyerdahl made other voyages...

Unfortunately you can't afford to make enough boats for an entire nation when there's an army going your way to kill you. Walking on the seafloor will have to do.

Rob

But then again, rafting 8000km is pretty impressive, too
... 1980. Huh.
... and it's not exactly a raft he sailed.
More like a full-blown wooden yacht with a frigging house built on it :P

The Kon-Tiki expedition was a 1947 journey by raft across the Pacific Ocean from South America to the Polynesian islands, led by Norwegian explorer and writer Thor Heyerdahl. The raft was named Kon-Tiki after the Inca god Viracocha, for whom "Kon-Tiki" was said to be an old name. Kon-Tiki is also the name of Heyerdahl's book, the Academy Award-winning 1950 documentary film chronicling his adventures, and the 2012 dramatized feature film nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Heyerdahl believed that people from South America could have reached Polynesia during pre-Columbian...

And a radio transmitter
I love how there's a huge linen-looking sail with ancient-looking design on it, and a bunch of national flags in bright colors above it. From the flags alone you would think it was a five-nation collab, not a one-man job.
Actually I'm not sure the sail design is period accurate.
Wikipedia doesn't list the sail material, unfortunately

11:08 AM
@MetaAndrewT. Hiya @MetaAndrewT. @rene @never \o/...@Sha found a way to ping me and bring me back here...

Rob
If you want a one man job there's a Marine Engineer who designed and built his own boat:
William Reid Stowe (born January 6, 1952) is an American artist and mariner. Stowe grew up around sailboats on the East Coast, sailing on the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans in his late teens and early twenties. By age 26, he had built two of his own sailboats with the help of his family and friends. Stowe subsequently sailed to the Antarctic with his schooner Anne in 1986 and completed a 194-day journey without touching land in 1999. In 2010 Stowe completed a more extensive ocean voyage, entitled 1000 Days at Sea: The Mars Ocean Odyssey—a journey that commenced on April 21, 2007, from the 12th St...

@InfiniteRecursion and you're welcome and I'm excited to have you drop in here again. How is the state of your pond?

Rob
Reid Stowe used to have a website chronicling his voyage, but it's down, here's the WayBack: web.archive.org/web/20120304233003/http://1000days.net/home/…

11:40 AM
@Rob Not the kind of boats I was thinking of ;) Most mummies were buried with a boat or model of a boat, so they could cross into the afterlife ;)
most/some I don't know the exact statistics ;)

Rob
11:56 AM
@Tinkeringbell Not "most mummies", the Norse usually buried in a burning boat: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norse_funeral#Ship_burials the Egyptians sometimes included a boat en.wikipedia.org/wiki/… - occasionally just a wooden model. It wasn't 'most of the time'.

@Rob Note that wikipedia also doesn't say much about the prevalence of such grave goods... and the source it links to is only for the one boat.
I'd have to google scholar it, but like I said I don't know the exact statistics. Only that that was the kind of boat I was thinking about, not the one you linked ;)

12:13 PM
@InfiniteRecursion yay! I'm quarantined at home for 5 more days, son was at school with a kid having Corona - luckily I can work from home, so not all is lost... except my sanity... :D

Rob
@Tinkeringbell There is a 'Rock Group' called Pharoah, who has a song "Buried at Sea": youtube.com/watch?v=1IkPG27yUn8 - the conversation about boats started here - There's nothing to support that pharoahs were buried at sea.

How did the Corona affect you? @Inf
@InfiniteRecursion more like dragged you here from the depths of oblivion.... :D

@Tinkeringbell Looks like @Rob wants you to do some gymnastics.

I could! But that skill is long lost. :(

Bar is great, but I prefer floor; ribbon or ball.

I used to be pretty okay with rings...

@Rob why?
@Rob isn't it by default? For me CTRL+Mouse Wheel is doing it (Windows 10, Chrome)

Or the... what are they called? They're also bars I think, but you can swing from them..
monkey bars?

Monkeys!!
Thought we got rid of them. ;)
@Tinkeringbell the rings are also major obstacle in the Ninja TV show...
@Rob did what?

Anyway, useless rant time... I subscribed to Digg about 10 years ago while working in a Startup company that wanted to boost their ranking there... never bothered to unsubscribe because they have funny titles:
(rarely bother to actually open the email and read it ;))
@rene wow he looks like a kid there... lol

^ If you guys don't mind, could you help spam flag posts from patents.SE? No mods there at the moment, Cat has been handling them mostly.

1:04 PM
I dropped a flag there.

'Preciated :)

Rob
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Considering that we were talking about National Geographic, the comment you replied to, I'd guess that NG doesn't mean Ted Nugent.

@Rob do I watch National Geographic?

DO YOU?
DO YOU?????

1:19 PM
It either has a lot more interesting shows when I was younger, or things that I'd find interesting back then are no longer interesting to me now...
Can't remember the last time they had a good documentary about dinosaurs though.
it's almost a crime to admit you still watch NatGeo, isn't it? :P

I still do sometimes
though more discovery. I'm one of those people who watches how its made when bored :D

How It's Made is awesome. Used to watch that all the time.

@JourneymanGeek nah
@JourneymanGeek niet

ARE YOU SURE? I WANT THE TRUTH!

@JourneymanGeek How it's made is one of the few shows on Discovery that I still like to watch.
But it's not on that often...

oh wait... I see now what @Rob meant... I think?
Jul 7 at 14:41, by Shadow Wizard Wearing Mask
What I do remember is that when I was 10, I read a biology book about the human body, with hundreds of pages - not a book for school, more like encyclopedia. I don't remember where I got it, probably in the school's library. :D
Turns out this book was published by NG ^

I picture Ash screaming/barking at you "I want the truth" and it's still just adorable

Spammers now announce their spam: This post contains references to products from one or more of our advertisers

It's quite glorious, really. You can stop reading there and just flag right off of that alone.
Ummm... how's the command work...
I was gonna add that user to the blacklist users but I imagine he'll get destroyed soon
eh

@Spevacus yep

1:39 PM
@rene that post was deleted.
It might have been the one posted a few minutes ago.

'Twas indeed. I shoulda have reported before spam flagging tbf
It got quite a few flags very quickly.

@Ollie yeah, I was too slow

@Spevacus One of those was mine.
And it got 8 downvotes real quick.
I just keep an extra tab open to look for new questions.

@Spevacus Technically... isn't that sentence 'disclosure' ? XD
Perhaps that one should've been closed + deleted instead of spam flagged :P

@Tinkeringbell Hmmm.

1:42 PM
@Spevacus I've added them to the blacklist in Charcoal

It looks like they didn't hyperlink one of their lines: "visit this page" and all. Also the weird hashtags n stuff.
@rene Cheers
Ah, Tink destroyed them.
Or... someone did.

yeah

Don't wanna accuse without knowing ;D

awesome way to spend my time

@Spevacus You can always blame me for that ;)
I like that button.

1:45 PM
It sounds like a neat button.

@Tinkeringbell the user who posted that thing a few minutes ago?

@Ollie Yeah. We usually delete accounts from spammers.

@Tinkeringbell good.

Destruction

meta.stackexchange.com/a/278803/369802 > reasons why that's useful ;)

1:49 PM
@Magisch you mean "woof woooof wof woooof wooof"?

@Tinkeringbell Ooh, 14 day insurance, eh? Neat!

Yep :)

We had a troll for years on Lit that always deleted their account immediately after posting, so they couldn't be suspended or destroyed or anything. I finally managed to suspend them one time before they deleted their account, so that the suspension would be automatically re-applied when they recreated the account. Haven't seen them since. :)

@rene nah, they're just too lazy so they only copy&paste from existing spam posts.

@Mithical That had to have been a narrow window. How long did you suspend them for?

1:53 PM
@Mithical well done! Must be as much fun as being able to catch a fly mid-air. :D

@Spevacus A month I think

Not bad.

@Mithical That must've been a very satisfying feeling :)

indeed

@Mithical I'm a mod in a trading and services community for a specific game. We had a scammer who would use alternate accounts to scam and go to great lengths to hide their tracks so we'd not find and ban their main account. on sunday they had a slip up and we finally got rid of them
so many scammers there

1:57 PM
@Magisch last Sunday? Or just a Sunday in general? ;)

2 days ago

it actually happens fairly regularly
people think they're so smart but they're really not

What kind of slip up? Using their main account to spam?

1:58 PM
They reposted stolen merchandise for sale on their main account

only very briefly but it was enough to obtain conclusive proof of the link

@Ollie what about it?
