@AnnZen Are you from Indonesia?
Does anyone here have any advice on how a hyperlink can be avoided in this: chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/55065677#55065677
I guess I could have done https://mattermodeling...
Or http://www.google.com
Nah that doesn't work
Thought I could just put a backslash or something to avoid it becoming a hyperlink

@user1271772 aye, just use code markup

12:29 AM
@ArtOfCode So like https:// ?

By the way was there any goodbye message on Meta for David Fullerton? I saw the ones for Shog and Robert Cartaino, and I guess a resignation letter on Jon Ericson's blog
couldn't find anything on David

At Woodstock, they were about 5 years too early for a 50s revival band. But some of the crowd seemed to appreciate them. :)

@PM2Ring The woodstocks are just weird (granted I've only been to one and it was like #25 or something)
Though watching Hendrix's two-hour performance is still awesome

@LinkBerest It is. I have the Hendrix Woodstock CD, but I haven't listened to it in a while. I need to migrate more of my CDs to MP3...

Have anyone ever went into a chat room and see that their gravatar is not in the box? I'm in that situation at the time of typing this.
...and now I'm in

I don't use Gravatar. But it's not unusual for there to be Gravatar problems in chat.

Avatar as in profile pic?
any pic.

Every once and a while when the server response is slow

@AnnZen ^Gravitar FWIW

@PM2Ring I finally finished doing that last year - though I think I still have the odd "best of" CDs that I still need to transfer (esp. my Queen, Who, and Bowie stuff as those are starting to show some age and I don't want to lose the music)

@Rubiksmoose I don't have that option i think.

Yeah no idea if it is universal or anything, but that is what PM was talking about.

gravatar is on by default (not a privilege)
Though there might be some "locale" settings based on region (meaning outside of SE's control)

1:46 AM
No gravatar option

@Rubiksmoose How did you make your picture by the way?

@user1271772 Someone in RPG chat made it for me actually. After a couple mangled attempts by me XD

@Rubiksmoose Haha
There's also CowperKettle:

Q: No Gravatar option when editing profile picture, only on Programmers SE

janosFirst of all, my profile picture on Programmers SE has changed by itself. If I recall correctly, the moment I clicked on the edit link, or when I made a change in one of the fields (not sure), the picture just changed by itself to what appeared to be Identicon. On other sites, if I try to change...

@user1271772 Fantastic lol

1:58 AM
Is SO the only site that has an extra tab (Developer Story) for user's profiles?

Yes, at least so far
(there is talk of adding Jobs to other technical sites so presumably you'll see it on SU, SF, and others soon-ish)

Lucky users.

shrug I don't use Careers (or Jobs or whatever they are calling it) - its not great for people with traditional CVs. I've heard its nice for freelancers, open-source people, and new programmers though (as I don't use - I cannot confirm this)

@AnnZen Well, it's tied in with Careers / Jobs. You can read the details here: meta.stackoverflow.com/q/314636/4014959

Ah, good old bluefeet
another CM that is sorely missed

2:12 AM
... She's still here... just not a CM.

I know - I stand by my statement
Though that's not to say you or other CMs are doing a poor job (sorry if it sounds that way) but more there used to be more of y'all and its still a bit of a sore point

I think you'd miss her more if she weren't fixing all the stuff that Nick breaks.

I haven't got a "Thanks! The consensus is: this post Requires Editing." message in Triage in ages!

almost no posts "require editing"
because if they do you should just edit it

Almost no posts "looks ok"
because there's always room for edits.
kidding ^

Unsalvageable should be the default choice if the only person who can fix it is the OP (cause that means it needs details or focus or .... add close reason here)
or possibly "skip" if your unsure
Theu really need to change the wording of "requires editing" - its really unclear verbage

A: How does the Triage queue work?

Nathan TuggyThe primary goal of Triage is to quickly sort potentially-problematic posts into categories that can be routed elsewhere. Many people have expressed confusion over how to use Triage, as the queue has evolved considerably over time. Here are some rules of thumb based on the review options availabl...

If there's something incorrect, edit the answer.

@LinkBerest LOL I was just about to post some of those links. :) That wording has tripped up a lot of people.

@Rob Its not incorrect, its just "requires editing" is a bad name. Like I just looked at a question (java) with the only code being an if (???) based on a CSV file which the person had not included any fields, example, schema - nothing but its a CSV file of players and it had my flag and 3 "requires editing"

Rob
Looks OK for questions that can be found, understood and answered as-is
Requires Editing for questions that you can make clear and answerable by editing
Unsalvageable for questions that cannot or should not be answered and must therefore be removed from the site
Skip if you are not sure and want to go to the next question

... technically there was a bunch of class definition code (imports and such) but that was just noise in this case
@Rob yep, your point? Mine is people don't read that and "requires editing" is unclear as a name/label
@PM2Ring I remember there being a bunch more but I think I might just be adding ones from the other sites I frequent (where this is just as much of an issue)

Yeah, misunderstanding "requires editing" happens across the network.

Rob
3:02 AM
So, if you (and maybe the OP, depending on their experience) could make the question clear by editing then that's what you choose; don't polish a turd is unsalvageable, looks OK should be understood. Next up is what you should do, skip.

.... again, I know the answer there (nobody but OP has access to the CSV that the entire question hinges on so it is unsalvageable - which I clicked and added a comment to include that data in this cause I'm trying to help). Are you saying that "requires editing" is clear to you? (I'm generally confused by your responses)

Rob
So, skip.

why would I skip?

The "requires editing" option can apply to the OP, but it's primarily intended to mean that a sufficiently knowledgeable community member can fix it without making changes that conflict with the author's intent without being a mind-reader.

Again, I understand that others (who don't know java) should skip but in this case the only person who can make the question answerable would be the OP (unless my crystal ball starts working) so it should be unsalvageable
And definitely not "requires editing" (which is what 3 others picked)

3:08 AM
does skip add to the maximum reviews per day?

skip just skips - it neither adds nor subtracts anything

@LinkBerest heh, I was having this conversation earlier :D
the problem is/wasn't that we were having CMs move to other parts of the company, it was that they weren't topped up
a CM who moves to be a dev or SRE is going to have a deeper knowledge of the community's needs
which is positive
the problem is 1) We didn't really replace the ones who moved to other parts of the company

yeah, you cannot promote without re-filling the position and that just never happened here

2) that SE's CM track's ... unusual, and more so now
since its too small to have a CM org, or specialised cms

You know, I've come to hate picking "is a duplicate" because I know that auto-comment will end up with me having a full inbox of OP arguing its not a duplicate even though they select an answer which was copied from the duplicate I linked to
Its almost not worth it anymore

3:21 AM
lol
Another difficulty is - by gutting the CM org + other things, unless someone really wants the job, hiring from the community is going to be a lot harder

yeah, I saw a few message indicating that people (cough and dogs cough) who were considering applying for it .... stopped considering

@LinkBerest I'm still interested, but in the "it probably pays more than what I do now, and I set my own hours, I'm here anyway and maybe I can help fix things" kinda way

heh, you were not the only one (and my memory on that is fuzzy cause the whole of Meta was on fire at the time so forgive me if I'm a bit mistaken there :)
FWIW, I think you'd make a terrific CM if you ever did become one (not that I have any say at all in that ;)

On the other hand, there's gotta be actual openings, and obviously, I've already applied twice so...
Part of the decision isn't mine
@LinkBerest thanks - but it probably needs a bit more miracles than I'm confident of :D

lol ... bunch of C# questions have the Rust tag cause people are working on Rust mods

3:37 AM
As the old joke goes, apparently the hardest part about getting a job for me is sneaking past HR. Probably cause I'm a dog.
(I've literally never gotten a job the 'normal' way)

My last two jobs (including professorship I've held for 3 years now): I received an automated HR email saying that I was "not chosen" only to be called by the actual manager (or dean) for an interview

I randomly got called by a former employer if I wanted this job. I worked for them 3 months before on a short contact via a unemployment fair. 'Worked' for my family business for 5 years, one job via a referral 😁

....actually, come to think of it. I only every truly did the "traditional path" on my very first job (when I was 16). Even then, hiring a 16 year old as the new technician was kinda strange

Lots of ghosting, a few interesting rejections (Github won't hire outside a few countries), AWS went through the whole process and went with someone else...
Github has an actual human respond
SE has a form letter, and an actual person responded as well the second rejection :D

in fact, I only got hired because one of the tasks they asked about was fixing a broken check reader (it was truly broken, magnet didn't work which is not repairable) and I was the only one who ask if we had another one with a broken motor so I could make 1 working one out of 2 broken ones
@JourneymanGeek ugh...I hate when you get through the whole process and then nothing (I went through the whole process - up to getting employee badge - for a mathematics professorship only to have the course dropped at the last moment)

3:53 AM
At least I got that far ;D
was a data center engineer role, which would have been a lot more interesting than what I do now
... meanwhile

so...
I already work for this company through a vendor
I applied for my own job so I can get converted to a direct hire

note, my fondest memory of working for that company (I worked at my first job for 6 years before military for 6 years) was when I had to do a mandatory "career fair" at the high school and one of the recruiters had no response when my answer to "how would you like to start as a help desk operator? its a great path to become a full technician!" was "I am a technician"

@JourneymanGeek heh...that was the second example (my last two jobs - i.e. my current jobs). Had worked as a contractor/freelance - now I just work here :)
Came after HR rejected me for not knowing Scala ... which is interesting because all the architecture is written in Java (some Python) :P

Long time no see. Hope y'all doing well.

@avazula Liar ;) Hope you're doing well too! :D

@Tinkeringbell that's just cause you're privileged ;D
I'm good :)

@avazula Oh, yeah... I have so many privileges ;) Glad to hear you're doing good :)

@avazula Same here... Just had a week but I have another two in September that can't come quickly enough!

@Mithical hello Mith! I'm so glad to see you :)
hope you're doing great
@Tinkeringbell yeah, same, these two weeks in September will feel so good hehehe

@avazula Anything planned, or are you having a staycation too?

@Tinkeringbell welp, given the current situation I can't go anywhere sadly. But I need to install my kitchen anyways so it's not like I'd have nothing to do.
I have so many works to do around the house ughhh
hehe

Oh stop it! You're making me dread moving out soon too :P
At least the kitchen will be installed for me ;)

I'm sorry hahaha

8:47 AM
Having two weeks to catch up with the house sounds both great and a bit like a waste of vacation time... Unless you really like chores?

you're buying a new house, you'll have 10 times less works to do than I have :p

@avazula I hope so!

@Tinkeringbell chores, not so much ... but I don't know how to rest anyways so it's not like it'd be that different from regular vacation.
I normally travel ... then I don't do anything productive ;)

Hahaha. I usually don't even bother travelling first ;) If I'm lucky, I'll set up a pi-hole... but I'm supposed to do that for three summer vacations now ;)

Installing the kitchen was a great workout, testing the kitchen wasn't

8:49 AM
hehe
I miss travelling, not gonna lie

Is travelling inside the country also a very bad idea over there?
It seems everyone is doing that instead, over here.

Welp
I'm living in a highly hurt region so I'd rather not move
but yeah everyone is still coming over here and it just drives me crazy

Yeah :P I'd much rather have people leave then come here too ;)

pft! Tourists

I used to say tourists were a blessing and a curse, since my family ran a business that depended on tourists. However, since we had to close (thanks COVID), I can now say that they're just a plague-ridden curse.

@rene That information is part of the behavioral analysis and is classified

How is it classified?

It's stamp that makes the document look more important
You stamp it and boom, now it's a class

@M.A.R. i can code plz now

I have no idea what they mean by "pitch one of the biggest neuroscience projects in the world to focus on building up the information available through SE"
Any research material spread on the internet or anywhere that's not gonna be thoroughly peer-reviewed sounds really bogus to me

Alright, I can't resist that face.

12:10 PM
@JourneymanGeek I mean, if I step on his tail he'll make a different face, right? :P

@Tinkeringbell that face is unfair
you can literally hear the world's smallest violins
well

@JourneymanGeek Nah. I'm used to that face, Aunt's mormel has the same whenever you're eating something or just having a good conversation.

you can't step on his tail

It's become annoying enough to me to be easily ignored.

but when you step on him, he does a little squeek and the ultimate sad face
@Tinkeringbell that's not the food face
that's the "What are you doing?" face :D

12:12 PM
@JourneymanGeek It's a dog looking at someone/something with its head slightly tilted. It could mean practically anything, I'm no dog whisperer :P
(Okay, now I'm done editing, I think)

12:26 PM
@Tinkeringbell also ash at peak puppyness :D

Heh. I think I'll stick with a rabbit if I really feel like caring for something when I move out of here. Somehow... dogs are kinda not my thing.
I mostly find them annoying, loud, and stinky.

@Spevacus Yup

What's !!/alive?

@Ollie Yup

Curiosity: Can anyone else replicate the (supposed) problem in the question at meta.stackexchange.com/questions/351323/…? I can't.

I think someone made a Formatting Sandbox answer to demonstrate it, but I haven't tried it mself.

1:43 PM
@Ollie Don't really have to? The question shows it is broken for me.

@Ollie The command !!/alive just asks the SmokeDetector bot if it's working.

@Ollie I can but
@Someone_Evil We don't support oddities that arise from using invalid formatting or HTML that causes other things to break - that behavior is inherently undefined. It works correctly when using correct syntax. — animuson ♦ 16 hours ago

@M.A.R., yeah, okay.
@Spevacus so what about !!/dead :)

Just type the wrong syntax in the answer, it does break stuff but it was never meant not to

@Ollie There are a couple of commands that do kill Smokey, but we like Smokey here :)

1:46 PM
@Spevacus Ah.
Why would there be commands?

The smokey here is mostly just Mith

A spam detector is a good thing/

@Ollie because it used to be a small project long ago that no longer is a small project

@y'all I'm going now. Ta!

@Ollie For developers of the bot to... do stuff with it, I suppose. There are commands that switch the machines that Smokey is running on, switches the code that it's running on, etc. etc.
Later!

1:47 PM
@Ollie I checked y'day and the answer from Ben in the sandbox. I understand why they are confused. I agree with Animuson, we don't fix "bugs" because someone doesn't follow the syntax guidance. Your answer is fine.

BTW there used to be talk of SO devs getting help from community bots from SOBotics for system implementation. What became of it?

in case Smokey ever goes insane.

@M.A.R. it is on the 6 to 8 weeks planning ... ( I don't know)

Earth weeks or are we talking about another planet here?

@M.A.R. Definitely another planet.
One closer to the sun ;)

1:50 PM
Yaakov is probably too busy ATM
@Tinkeringbell Yeah Mercury's days are 88 Earth days IIRC

@M.A.R. Only probably?

Oh, 58

Pfft. Imagine having a 40 hour (earth hour) work week on such a planet :P
I'd take it!

The aliens would also probably be in slow-mo

Makes them easy to outrun or defeat, right?
You'd be like some superhuman with superspeed to them :P

1:52 PM
They fry and freeze everyday, I don't think they pose a threat

Like all human cooks do, right?

It doesn't have an atmosphere so it doesn't trap much water so there's some 300-degree difference between day and night temperature

Great. No more sweltering beneath blankets.

Does mudfish taste like fish or frog?

depends; velociraptors are just extinct chickens, while sauropods would have really tough meat

@JohnDvorak Tough skin, maybe, but probably taste like cow meat

I'll bet a T-rex T-bone would have been T-rrific though

Now I'm sure if Jurassic Park ever happened it'd be to make new luxury foods

That makes me strangely uncomfortable.

@M.A.R. I mean, I'm definitely curious if sauropod could replace cow. I'm not sure about their methane production levels though.

wouldn't that be illegal, given how high they'd score on the extinction rating

@JohnDvorak Of course you make sure first you have a healthy breeding population, then you start breeding for meat...

The Revolution, is a 1971 epic Zapata Western film directed and co-written by Sergio Leone and starring Rod Steiger, James Coburn and Romolo Valli. Set during the Mexican Revolution of the 1910s, the film tells the story of Juan Miranda, an amoral Mexican outlaw, and John Mallory, an ex-Irish Republican Army revolutionary. After they accidentally meet under less-than-friendly circumstances, Juan and John involuntarily become heroes of the Revolution despite being forced...

@Mithical personal and business, most likely? ;)
@rene 00

@Tinkeringbell nah, the bottle of ice isn't included. Guess it cost $100 additional fee.

@Rob How can you see from a static image!?

Pro-tip: you don't want to get a snake as big as this one upset at you.

@JohnDvorak I mean, it's hiding in the toilet :P it clearly already is!

I find that avoiding upsetting danger noodles of any size is a good rule of thumb :)

Although, ring mail gloves might mitigate most of the risks.

@Tinkeringbell I could ask you the same.
