Bisect, so useful, so poorly documented.

3:25 AM
I'm guessing this is quite out of date?
4
A: How are views/day calculated in Area 51?

Jeff AtwoodIt's just a sum of all unique IP address question views, so it is quite strict. Actual traditional sloppily counted pageviews would be about three times that, based on comparing the Google Analytics with that number.

@Rob Wow, you joined 129 sites!

Rob
It is necessary for automatic flagging, I'm a Core member of Charcoal.

Can you tell me more core members you know of?

Rob
Some people have joined every site, and contributed to a small handful; I've provided almost exclusively answers, a couple of questions to help beta sites get started.
@AnnZen I can give you a link to the list, later.

@Speva Are you a Core member of Charcoal?

3:34 AM
Not a chance!
Just got privileges less than a week ago.

Where's the privileged list?

Hmm... I bet this doesn't work, but...
!!/whois privileged

@Spevacus That is not a user level I can check. I know about admin, blacklist_manager

Yeah didn't think so

3:37 AM
There's a long list of users in a code file on Smokey's GitHub repository.
Ah... That too.

@Spevacus That list is for users who have chat command privileges
Core is a Metasmoke privilege which increases autoflags and grants access to some non-public Charcoal resources like database dumps

o7

Rob
4:00 AM
@AnnZen If you have permission to see this, this link lists the over 1500 members and their roles: metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/admin/users?page=1 - I presume it's public info, if not you won't see the webpage. (Found by Googling).

@Rob Found by googling? MS has everything blocked in robots.txt
What was your search query?

Rob
The tab is closed, but I think it was MetaSmoke roles

sigh* Wrong again...

6:01 AM
Yeah no. You're only supposed to post the ones that weren't deleted/need feedback, IIRC

Rob
@Tinkeringbell It was live for almost 5 seconds; it's reported here because it only had 1 feedback on it.

@Rob it was deleted, which AFAICT should have stopped it from being posted here

I always thought it did also take into account whether the post was deleted or not?

probably the deletion watcher just missed that post for whatever reason
Perhaps it was deleted so fast it was already gone by the time Smokey got around to detecting it and so it never picked up the deletion event, I don't know

Rob
@NobodyNada That function is redefined frequently, it's definition for the line you referenced is here; needless to say that I won't be analyzing the data flow on a cellphone by magnifying glass.

6:16 AM
@Rob Looks public. Thanks, I didn't know of that page.

Rob
Frequently spam with a high score is deleted almost instantly; it's a challenge to: refresh, see it, click thru, flag, and send before it disappears from under you.

Heh, that means the system works.

Rob
@Mast You may have enough priv, the other person maybe not

@Rob I'm not logged in at that site, how would it determine I have enough privileges?
I didn't even know I was a member.

@Mast you don't need privileges to access that page
not logged in == the lowest privilege level

6:23 AM
@NobodyNada Thanks, that's exactly what I suspected.

Rob
@NobodyNada @mast @tink It looks like smokey was down, the only recent report is this: metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/post/254443

@Rob what do you mean? is there spam that was missed?

Rob
@NobodyNada Missed, or there was none for a long time; yet we know of the one we are discussing, so at least one: metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/flagging/logs

@Rob You're looking only at reports that have been autoflagged, not all reports
The one we are discussing was reported and would have been autoflagged if it hadn't been ninja'd by Tinkeringbell
This is the list of recent reports, or you can always look in CHQ

Rob
Yes, two flags, one before.

6:37 AM
@Rob I don't follow?

Rob
I can recommend a tech support site, it's only U$100/hr.

I wouldn't blame SD ... this time...
someone reported it

It's possible to supply a reason when manually reporting a post to SD; in this case, the reporter did so

7:08 AM
@JourneymanGeek I'm not blaming anyone, just pointing it out for whoever's here handling those things.
I should probably read Smokey's manual and try to get into the game site-wide.
I'll take it to Charcoal HQ :-)
But if that's how the core team operates, never mind my previous statement...

@Mast there's a running joke about how much I hate smokey :D
I got my marshal on SU flagging spam

That's a lot of spam.

@SonictheMaskedWerehog And someone is upvoting it.

both Q&A were upvoted... wow..

@Mast And un-upvoting and re-upvoting, too, after some downvotes, so the reputation remains at 11 or possibly higher.

Q: Is it possible to modify an image so someone with myopia could see it clearly without glasses?

Tom Britoor even better, is there software available which can do it? --new detail to people that is saying that it's impossible, I remember that at college, staring into the projector, the analogic focus could be changed so I could se a clear image without the glasses.

that seems like it's on the wrong site

@SonictheMaskedWerehog apparently not

@SonictheMaskedWerehog Heh, that was my first thought as well.

Bisect, so useful, so poorly documented.
Still a neato command.

I just didn't bother to read the full commands list, it's on me.
@Spevacus NATO?

UN?

12:26 PM
Also, assumed !!/test is for, well, testing a URL/name, so didn't bother to look for another command.
@Spevacus they live the life... timesofisrael.com/… :P

There's a lad snoozing in the passenger seat as well? Geez.

I believe they got lots of requests to join after that got public. ;)

Hell yeah, sign me up!

@Spevacus probably the driver
@Spevacus will you be the driver too? ;)

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

12:30 PM
!!/bisect NATO

@Mast You are not a privileged user. Please see the privileges wiki page for information on what privileges are and what is expected of privileged users.

Darn it.

Weird that you need privileges for bisect, I don't think it lets you do anything actionable.
Well... Maybe that's the point. If you can't add a keyword to the watchlist (even through a pull request) then why do you need to check the watchlists?

As good a theory as any.

1:03 PM
> Stack Overflow is currently offline for maintenance
Routine maintenance usually takes less than an hour. If this turns into an extended outage, we will tweet updates from @StackStatus or post details on the status blog.
Nooooooo

;_;

seems up for me?

Yeah, seems back now. IPS was down for a sec too.

!!/bisect NATO

@ShadowWizardWearingMask 'NATO' is not caught by a blacklist or watchlist item.

1:16 PM
@Spevacus it requires resources so can be abused to take Smokey down, in a way...
The "free" stuff is the things that don't require queries, etc. I think.
@Tinkeringbell huh? You started using SO regularly? ;)

@ShadowWizardWearingMask DoS, right.

@Mast yeah the infamous DDoS attack

Just gotta !!/bisect DROP_TABLE master

Well guess that !!/coffee attack (e.g. several such requests per second) will slow Smokey down but shouldn't break it. :)

!!/tea

1:22 PM
@Spevacus brews a cup of lemon tea for @Spevacus

You can't post same message twice in a row in chat
@balpha is smarter than that
So there's a teapot when you try.
But there are ways around it, of course.

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Please don't break me.

Community Bulletin went poof. :(

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Considering that's not something that requires a lot of calculation but more of a canned reply, the damage should be limited.

1:28 PM
An actual lookup like bisect must be much heavier.

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Only on Meta?

@Mast yup
@Mithical yup

!!/break

@MetaAndrewT. No such command 'break'.

@MetaAndrewT. k

@ShadowWizardWearingMask No such command 'spank'.

Odd. They seem to be on the same deploy (2020.7.16.37232).

hmm.... what is the difference between slap and spank? @Rob you probably know?
@Mithical it's because only the featured MSE questions are missing, network wide.
And MSE has no other contents for the bulletin, so it's just missing.

1:30 PM
Spank usually indicates hitting the posterior.

Other sites have their Hot Meta questions.

Slap is hitting someone with an open palm.

!!/facepalm

Something is borked with tags, in the network level. :(

Rob
1:31 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask It's like the difference between sect and bisect

SE global buggy filter related tag
if it makes sense...

Hehe

@Mithical you mean טוסיק? First time I saw this word, had to Google.... lol

yes

Thanks for teaching me new word, @Mith! :P

1:32 PM
:)

@MetaAndrewT. sense makes it

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Just lurking on Teams ;)

@Tinkeringbell oh.... yeah. :D

1:39 PM
@MetaAndrewT. I would rather believe a dictionary over wikipedia ...

@DavidPostill Is wiktionary either, both or neither?
Regardless, it's fairly accurate in this case.

@Mast Accurate but incomplete. No definition for intransitive verb as per my post earlier.

@DavidPostill I've never heard it used like that, except for the proverbial 'spanking fast'. Which is similar to 'lightning fast'.

Hello.

Hallo

1:46 PM
Why are we spanking?

Theirs not to reason why

@Ollie Because we are monkeys? :)

@DavidPostill :)

+1 for anybody who gets that meaning

@Mast, is it theirs to reason who?

1:49 PM
@Ollie No

if the monkey is being spanked who is doing the spanking?

........

Hi Geek!

Hi @JourneymanGeek.

slapsticking the slipstack

1:54 PM
Y'all are uncouth
4

Now @JourneymanGeek is here I'd better not answer my question above .......

@JourneymanGeek, never.

Yes 😁

@DavidPostill, oh please answer your question.
@DavidPostill oh for...maybe not.
Of course you'd remove that :)

1:59 PM
I kinda didn't want that in my browser history, for obvious reasons :)

Rob
@DavidPostill @Sha It can get very complicated: youtu.be/lnSEebm8Rtc that video doesn't make it clear for everyone.

@Rob, spanking the monkey?

Rob
No, you?

Oh never mind...

This is getting more awkward...

Rob
2:05 PM
See.

As the Geek says: Y'all are uncouth.

like, awk-ward

So if there's a Journeyman Geek, is there also a Novice Geek? An Expert Geek? A Masterful Geek?

Rob
The video is child safe (apparently).

Are you sure?

Rob
2:06 PM
Have a look

@Spevacus or just "Geek".

@Spevacus Was there, never more?

@Rob Hillarious :)

Rob
Weirdest video of the week awarded 🏆

@Rob if it has to do with spanking the monkey, I'm not sure I want to :)
And I imagine the monkeys are getting tired of it.

Rob
2:08 PM
@DavidPostill Is the video safe for children to watch?

@Rob Yes. But full of double entendres

Rob
Thought I heard a triple or two

@Spevacus being a geek is a path through life. One never masters it. One is not taught it.....

Mmm...

( folks have asked if I would change it to master geek 😁)

2:14 PM
@Ollie as usual, I'm to blame. ;)
So I'm to be spanked.

Let's see if that's true.

!!/blame

@Spevacus It's Makyen's fault.

noooooo
Me! Me!

2:14 PM
For real this time...

Very well then :)

!!/blame

@Spevacus It's SmokeDetector's fault.

I went by geek for ages elsewhere. Seemed generic, and I liked the sound of it 😁

2:15 PM
I mean that one's acceptable I guess

@JourneymanGeek even me?! innocent look
@JourneymanGeek and when you started your @Journey?

@ShadowWizardWearingMask actually uncouth is rather mild 😁

@JourneymanGeek don't hold back. Tell us how you really feel :)

@ShadowWizardWearingMask actually stole that from a game i never played
The journeyman project

@Rob rofl.... is this actually a real book, or some parody?
@JourneymanGeek exactly! :D
@JourneymanGeek same here! My name is taken from some D&D book/game.
We all steal....

Rob
2:22 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask I think it's just a one off video.

@ShadowWizardWearingMask, Dungeons and Dragons?

hmm... except maybe @David which appears to be a real name...

and @Ollie.

@Ollie indeed.
@Ollie stolen too!
The ollie is a skateboarding trick where the rider and board leap into the air without the use of the rider's hands. It is the combination of stomping, also known as popping, the tail of the skateboard off of the ground to get the board mostly vertical, jumping, and sliding the front foot forward to level out the skateboard at the peak of the jump. Gravity does the rest of the work. The ollie is a fundamental skill in skateboarding. Ollies are necessary to leap onto, over, or off of obstacles. As most flip tricks depend on it, the ollie is often the first skill to be learned by a new skateboarder...
@Mith can you do it? ^

no
i've never skateboarded

2:23 PM
So you can't do @Ollie? :(

At one point I could.

an ollie*

Now I just run 100 meters.

There's also a Nollie

2:24 PM
@Mithical since you're into bikes so much, thought you might be into skating as well. :)

I can bunnyhop my bike, but never used a skateboard.

@Ollie in 9.8 seconds?

@ShadowWizardWearingMask not quite :), 13.7 actually. Down my driveway.

@Ollie not bad!

@Shadow thanks.
I'd like to beat Usain...

2:26 PM
hmm.. I have access to highschool competition results, wonder how many points you'll get with 13.7 seconds - will check at some point if I won't forget. @Oll
;)

Thanks...I'll keep lowering the time.

Rob
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Not me, my Wikipedia entry (other uses) is indeed about me specifically: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rob#Other_uses
> Rob (dog) (1939–1952), a dog awarded the Dickin Medal

@Rob so no real book?

Rob
:(

2:27 PM
@Rob :)

Also @ShadowWizardWearingMask, it's also good practice for outrunning bears.
:)

@Ollie 100 meters are not hardly enough.
You need at least 1 km

True :)

@Spevacus The 900.

Rob
I fixed up the monkey, sort of; now his pants are blue:

2:28 PM
@Rob, please stop spanking the monkey. He doesn't like it.

Rob

@Ollie I beg to differ. :D

@ShadowWizardWearingMask, he does like it?? First I've heard...

@Rob finally real picture of you?? :P

Snap.

2:30 PM
@Ollie you're doing something wrong. Hit me up in private to get a free tutorial. :D

Free tutorial?
Ohhhhh Dear.

Yup
I'm a generous person.
Usually it cost $777

Wow... I'd rather spend that money toward a turbocharger kit, sorry :)
You were kidding, weren't you?

...

@Ollie stick around in the Tavern and you'll find out soon enough. ;)

2:33 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask ohhhh dear.

(or in Den, though it's quite deserted these days...)

Rob
That might have been a prompting.

Possibly.
But I'm going now, see y'all.
Have fun spanking your monkeys, Rob :)
And David.

@Ollie cya! Thanks for updating!

@ShadowWizardWearingMask bye!

Rob
2:35 PM
The lingering goodbye, spanks.

@Rob @ShadowWizardWearingMask There's a whole bunch of them. See the mix to the right of the video :)

Rob
Dave Dave Dave thanks.

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Appears? I'll have you know it's the real thing ...

@DavidPostill thanks!
@DavidPostill prove!
;)
@Rob something just hit me, why blue pants?
Any hidden meaning behind it?

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Oh get out of town!

Rob
2:45 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask I tried looking in the trash for the previous image but I had the wrong trashcan in my browser history, so it wasn't visible; but it was there a day ago because when I looked at something that was moved there it was. Another possibility is to try to find the original image.

@ShadowWizardWearingMask I could post a scan of my passport, but too much PII :)

@Spevacus which road? Also, my horse need water.
@Rob do find, plz. ;)
@DavidPostill blank out everything except the name..... :P

Rob
@ShadowWizardWearingMask It's where this was swept.

looking for @Rob's original image under @Tink's rug
Now we wait.

Rob
2:52 PM
It's not far
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Above this.

@rob @ShadowWizardWearingMask Can't you lot use google image search? NSFW search for "monkey balls"

Rob
