@Spevacus The user had 5 proposed questions (for placement on a new site) on Area 51. Four of their questions had four close votes and the fifth question only had two. They also had a couple of A51 meta posts criticising the suggestion that they should improve their question. They have a reasonable score on other sites but A51 and MSE were not their forte. Focusing on deletion of their A51 account was showing them the door. Some people do well there, some do not.

Hi.. I feel lost that none of the mods are showing interest in meta activities for many days. Many things are floating without being addressed and community members are kept on asking the same question on different posts. Please let me know what can be done in such a case? hinduism.meta.stackexchange.com/q/1842/93

@Mr_Green if that meta post doesn't resolve things, you can use the contact us form to contact the CM team. But do keep in mind that not all posts will be, can be nor should be moderated to how you see fit. There might be reasons to do things differently and that is fine.
Assuming their reasoning to do it differently is sound.

@πάνταῥεῖ I'm involved there. I refrain from voting.

OK, that's legit.

Hey 10k now. That was a long way to go :P

12:01 PM
Is it data explorer day today or what?? 3rd question about it in a row.

12:33 PM
@πάνταῥεῖ Congrats on 10K

@ResistanceIsFutile ty. It's very unfortunate that we have only that narrow communication channel left :-(.

I wanted to ping you on Twitter... now I realized you are on a way to break world record in suspensions ;)
you do have my email, don't you?

@ResistanceIsFutile I am afraid I lost it. Mine is g-makulik <at> t-online.de
@ResistanceIsFutile That twitter suspension is just a bad joke :P

I have just sent you email..
All suspensions are bad jokes

Uhm
If you want me to delete the email let me know

12:45 PM
@JourneymanGeek I believe it's OK so far.

12:56 PM
@ResistanceIsFutile Not all of them I think, but for my cases they are ;-)

I was referring to your cases
and some other...

Ah ....
Specifically at Twitter D.J. Trump is allowed to threaten millions of people to die of terrorist acts because of his actions, but to tell him that he should be the 1st victim is worth a lifelong ban at twitter? They are completely crazy.

I suspected Donald got you in trouble ;)
Yep, Twitter is nuts...

Though, nice to meet you again Daljia!

Sometimes I want to write some stupid joke and I don't because people might take it seriously
I was always around...
I had to restart darn computer... Delphi debugger was acting up...

1:11 PM
I had really bad experience using the debugger recently. Especially when it comes to have thread status is tracked. Closing that window helped.

I think you can disable some log events from showing
Tools -> Options -> Debugger -> Event Log
Might, help... but generally Win64 debugger is piece of s...
Actually, all debuggers except Win32

1:51 PM
Hmm, win32 debugging with Delphi IDE isn't much better in many cases as I've experienced.
There are all kind of weird behaviours. Especially when DLL's and multithreading is involved.

Debugging threads is problematic no matter the platform, but otherwise Win32 debugger is pretty solid one.

@ResistanceIsFutile Did you use Smart Bear's AQTime for profiling? I had really hard times with that kind of instrumentation.

Haskell's treatment of threads is really good

Haskell is for Gods. Not for us mortal earthlings who have to deal with legacy code :-(

Instead of fiddling with actual threads, you just throw subexpressions to the thread pool, and when the thread pool gets to it, it starts evaluating them. If they're not ready by the time the main thread gets to using them, it waits or starts evaluating the expression itself.
I suppose you could set up the same system in any language...

2:04 PM
@JohnDvorak Probably yes, but injecting that to legacy code would still be a hard nut (macadamia is nothing compared to such challenge).

fair. I do still like the idea for a future project though.
A Thunk would encapsulate a nullary function to ensure it will be called exactly once, and a ThunkProcessor would accept Thunks to be evaluated and either wake up idle threads or stash them in a queue if no threads are idle.

I am all open to leave Delphi behind for future projects in preference of using C# or something else. Unfortunately my work is mostly based on (up to 20 year old) legacy code.

Delphi x_x

Yes, but we have 17K customers running with that platform.
But on the good site, that's what I am fairly paid for as an experienced Software Developer :-D

fairly as in a lot, or fairly as in the same as everyone else? :P

2:13 PM
Good amount. We need really experienced people to keep that running.

I stopped programming in Pascal when its time library FUBAR'd when computers got faster than 1MHz.

At least for having a job near to my home, I prefer that and I am mostly satisfied with my salary.
I could earn a lot more (up to 30%) with jobs at munich or so, but I am not really interested.

keep at it
that is a huge benefit

Yes!
It saves me a lot in wasting of time.
And also psychological hygiene. Spending too much time to get to your work place every day drives you nuts for the long term.
Seen that, when I was on trains to get back and forth, or with colleagues who travelled about 2 hours a day from Munich to Rosenheim and back.

2:49 PM
@πάνταῥεῖ No, or very little... one time they had lite version included with Delphi, but it was buggy as hell, and I had to remove it from IDE (it would bring the whole IDE down, even when you were not using it)
for finding bottlenecks I usually use my gut feelings ;)

@ResistanceIsFutile Yes, that's still the best strategy.

30 years of experience also helps

@πάνταῥεῖ Why would you post something like that? Are you trying to cause drama? Come on!

@terdon It's not me who initiated it ...

@πάνταῥεῖ So you think it's what? Funny? Helpful? All I see is a comment designed to cause everyone to waste time dealing with it. If you think a policy is silly then don't bloody follow it! What benefit in highlighting that with no context, no explanation, no nothing?
Plus, your comment is simply false. "He/she" has never been considered a "major fault". It is only mentioned in the FAQ and the FAQ just says there are better ways of writing in a gender neutral way. And yet, your comment is telling the OP they committed a "major fault", so you're just spreading false information.
So both unhelpful and untrue, and apparently trying to stir up drama for fun.

@MartijnPieters Thanks a lot for this, by the way! I've had a lot of non-SE stuff going on lately so I haven't really been able to attend to much, so the help here was greatly appreciated :)

So Corona is in the city.
they're doing the whole 'contacting everyone who had contact with hte infected' thing
but..... how can that even be possible lol

@Mari-LouA RE your edit summary on your recent edit: I also do agree that the current architecture for FAQs is kind of flawed and leads to long, convoluted answers (e.g. the bounty FAQ, the badge criteria FAQ). I believe that we need a new, documentation-like architecture for FAQs, which allows for better finding relevant info while still containing all the information. I have a feature request planned for that.

I do have a feature request planned for a better architecture for FAQs, but the recent controversy outbreak derailed plans to post that.
@djsmiley2kTMW Get the list from the infected

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog 'went on bus number 11 at 12:30pm
great
tjhere was 30 people on the bus
we don't have ID on any

@djsmiley2kTMW Well, you can get the info of people who use credit cards or bus passes
If most people are paying cash fares, then that's an issue
(And also fare evaders)

@djsmiley2kTMW Those are "low risk" exposures. They'll be focusing on the high risk ones.

'low risk' lol
I can't see the point in any of it
everyons gonna get it

oh not panics at all
I just think, we need to isolate those most at risk
figure out how to give them what they need, to keep a level of living.

Rob
They use Contact Tracing (halfway down the page). Interview and legwork, with follow-up.

Feasibility, reasonable. Some countries have assistance from railway passenger information.
@djsmiley2kTMW So, it's possible and there has been some success.

not in the UK it aint xD
I was in contact (as in less than a meter away from) around... 50 people today?
just walking around a supermarket
plenty of coughing and sneezing from the little ones too

@TimStone Glad it was helpful! Once I got started I got carried away.
@TimStone: if you now bump the version number anyone that updated to the previous revision will automatically update to the new.
(anyone on a revision that predates the inclusion of a version number will have to update by other means).

@MartijnPieters So you're the reason I kept getting rudely yanked away from what I was doing and taken to a new tab about updates all the time yesterday? :P
Joking apart, thanks for the updates!

@terdon can't have been me! :-D The changes Tim is talking about were merged a week ago! :-P
(there was one more pull request that had a conflict that I resolved in the intervening time, that was merged a few hours ago but Tim didn't update the version # I added)

@djsmiley2kTMW In North America officials are advising against being confined in public gatherings, such as Football events or Cruise Ships; when you go out maintain a reasonable interpersonal space, no hugging.

looooool
yes
don'[t go to the shops
stay home and starve
also, don't stock up on food :D

You can't get infected with a deadly virus

We have meta.stackexchange.com/questions/tagged/project and meta.stackexchange.com/questions/tagged/external-project. if those are extremely useful, they need a wiki / excerpt. If they are synonyms then maybe that should be done. If they are useless, a burninate post on MSE is warranted. Thoughts?

10:55 PM
@rene Looking at the questions tagged with it, most of them are SO-specific questions from the era this site accepted them. I think it's fine to make a burninate request.
