'Be Nice' went too far :/
@Cerbrus lol, I'm not a mod for good reason.
I don't have any allowance.
How do you buy your sweets then?
You know, if you think about it. Your paycheck from work is nothing more than an adult form of allowance.
But with more taxes (at least in the US)
hah
I meant allowance for (bad) trolling.
Maybe the room owners just want to keep this pasture clear of any crap.

Which, I'm all for
1 message moved to Trashcan
2 messages moved to Trashcan
please stop making me having to move all messages
Or we call this Tavern on the Trashcan?
15:05
could work
user310756
maybe loosen up a bit. It's not feeling good
user310756
no one can say anything
Give it time @YvetteColomb. Don't force it
We can talk about waffles
Good advice
15:05
I'm not a fan of waffles, too much work
^ ban pls
What about puppies?
user310756
@Bart hi bart
o/
@Trasiva Not even 3D printed waffles?
15:06
Can we drop that already
@Emilie ...
Now why you gotta go there
@Trasiva they come pre-packaged here
You mean like Eggo?
If I'm gonna have a waffle, I'm gonna make it from scratch.
15:06
@Trasiva I'm sorry, on behalf of The Waffle Association, section Meta II, AKA "Tavern", we're now gonna ban you.
For years I couldn't eat (belgan) waffles (as opposed to potato waffles which are awesome.)
As they'd cause me to choke.
@Trasiva Are Eggos made from PLA? :P
Let me rephrase. I like waffles, I just don't enjoy making them.
Waffles are superior to pancakes
@djsmiley2k-CoW ... chew?
15:07
Other things which'd also cause this: McDonalds batches, and bbq food.
@Emilie ....
@Bart lol you'd think, right.
Wasn't a chewing problem.
I had barretts esophagus which meant my throat closed up sometimes when adjudicated by stomach acid (which certain foods seemed to set off).
Now that's a breakfast
15:08
@Trasiva ooooh ... slightly jealous.
user310756
@Trasiva now I'm hungry
@djsmiley2k-CoW dang.
Bacon. My partner is vegetarian. <cries>
user310756
15:10
@Trasiva what sort of eggs are those
user310756
now I'm really hungry - like gonna need to get some food hungry
@Raedwald Some of the new veggie bacon is actually pretty good
Chicken probably
There's a bed of sauteed garlic spinach and mushrooms, with two eggs over easy and two strips of bacon.
user310756
what's an egg over easy?
15:11
Egg that still has a soft yolk
user310756
oh yes! that's how I like my poached eggs
And was flipped to cook on the other side, hence the "over"
Breakfast burritos!
@Bart Nope, I don't flip 'em. I throw a bit of water in at the end and throw a lid on it to steam the top.
mmMM burritos
user310756
15:12
even hard boiled eggs - so the inside is still runny and you make a fresh white bread roll with butter and put the egg on them
This is getting offensive again ... I'm hungry, not out of the office for another 2 hours ... and then this. Then again, maybe I shouldn't be reading chat while working ...
@Bart Last one then, lol
user310756
@Bart I'm in bed for the night and seriously thinking about getting up to eat
Hahaha
Hash browns, bacon, eggs over easy, and toast with farm fresh butter.
user310756
15:14
@Trasiva hash brown is on the bottom left == potatoes?
user310756
I feel a deadly craving for protein
user310756
I don't eat meat often, but when that urge comes...
Now I have pills for less acid, and most things are gooooooooood
@YvetteColomb deadly for whom I wonder.
@YvetteColomb After reading some of the Rig Veda, I had a craving for butter.
user310756
15:17
user310756
this one is to get Bart's mind off food. He's my son's dog
Oh, I only shared breakfast
I haven't even shared lunch or dinner
4 bacon and egg dishes for one breakfast!
user310756
Not one breakfast, lol. I just stuck to a theme
user310756
15:19
my dog trying to drive home
We have a greyhound
Oops @Bart, I'm terribly sorry. This just fell and landed here.
@YvetteColomb awwwwww
user310756
user310756
@Cereal they're awesome aren't they!?
15:21
@YvetteColomb meow
user310756
@Trasiva I'm starving! that's done it. off to get some foods
A bug scared her in July and we've spent the last several months training her to go back outside
user310756
@Emilie we have 3 cats. 2 dogs and 9 horses, plus another horse I look after (10)
user310756
@Cereal awwwwww that is so sad. Yes Elsa is delicate. She whimpers at the slightest thing
She's also scared of her food bowl
user310756
15:22
I believe it!
user310756
how long have you had her?
user310756
did she come off the track?
Have some pizza instead
user310756
spinach cheese pizza
15:22
We got her december 26 2018, so just under a year
That's basil
user310756
oh it takes a while. Elsa has settled down a lot
Yes, she was a racer. She retired just shy of 3 year old
user310756
lol basil ok.. yeh that makes sense
It's a Margarita pizza napoleon style.
15:23
So fairly early. She wasn't a good racer
@YvetteColomb Sounds like fun! I love animals. Had to put down my dying cat last summer and not ready to have more right now unless it's a temporary rescue or something
user310756
@Cereal yep elsa didn't qualify - so we got her as 2 yo
user310756
@Emilie it's incredibly painful. I'm sorry to hear
user310756
most of ours are rescues
@Emilie You have a kid and a half. How on earth would you have time for another pet?
15:24
It's interesting, having a 3 year old dog that doesn't know things like stairs, or other people. She's intensely afraid of men, so we figure she was abused. she's coming around
@Trasiva At some point, I had a 3 years old, a 6 months old, and a dying cat that required IV fluids almost daily + multiple medication. I've been told I'm on the hyperactive side :P
I really should just buckle down and get another dog. Get my ass off the couch.
@Emilie That sounds...accurate, haha
user310756
@Cereal ikr! my son had to carry elsa up 5 flights when we first owned her
user310756
they live on the tracks in kennels and never go on steps
Giving IV fluids to a non-cooperating pet with a 3 years old trying to "help" you is.... yea
user310756
15:25
she would also growl if we touched her when she was asleep, they are kenneled alone
user310756
@Emilie oh 3 yos are goooood helpers O.O
Hey! My nephew is three and he's a fantastic helper.
I'd never be able to annoy my sister or parents nearly as efficiently without his help.
@YvetteColomb I expect it'll improve with time lol
user310756

Q: Issues with their hound growling when they're disturbed when sleeping?

Yvette ColombI have a 2 yo rescue greyhound. By rescue I mean the trainer took her and her sister to the vet to be put to sleep, as they weren't running fast enough at the track. She's a darling sweet girl. I have no issues with her. She doesn't chase our cats, she loves going for runs when I go to the horse...

user310756
@Emilie ooooh mine are all adults now... it varies - the 3 yos have an enthusiasm that's hard to reignite
user310756
15:28
@Trasiva omg - do you buy him noisy presents?
@YvetteColomb Yeah I'm trying not to kill her enthusiasm at least, it's really a wonderful thing
Well, I buy some. I print others.
user310756
@Emilie they're so darn cute. I still look at my kids and they're as cute as they were when they were 3. The love stays big
user310756
@Trasiva you sound like a nice uncle
He's not. Don't let his cooking fool you
user310756
15:29
and someone with a possible future cholesterol problem - just saying :D
Give a 3 year old a collapsible four foot sword
Watch the pure unadulterated chaos that ensues.
@Cereal I plead the fifth
user310756
oh no... I could give you some really bad present ideas
user310756
that your nephew will love and his parents will hate you
Oh, he gets all sorts of whistles, clickers, throwables.
His birthday this year he got a miniature golf set. My parents' ankles haven't been the same since.
Perhaps alludes to why “assume good intent” was removed from the CoC?
15:32
@Trasiva alphorn ...
has stuff cooled down here
user310756
get him a kazoo, he'll love it
He's got seven
user310756
your parent angles
mag
mag
@GeorgeStocker they may remove it from the CoC, but people won't stop doing it
15:33
@rene I gave him a vuvuzela since it was easy to print, lol
user310756
omg! you're one step ahead of me- you are indeed a true villian uncle! :)
user310756
@GeorgeStocker it can be used to allow for stuff that's not so good as an end result, regardless of intent - I guess
@Gwideon looks like we're in buying presents for a nephew now ....
This year for Christmas I'm getting him and my 1 year old niece a karaoke machine
user310756
how are you @GeorgeStocker feeling less stressed since stepping down?
15:34
good
My pot plant has just attempted to commit suicide
@Trasiva brutal ...
@JohnDvorak Took a dive?
user310756
@JohnDvorak :( what did you do to that poor plant?
15:35
@rene Lol, you have no idea. I've now conditioned him to ask my parents for five dollars every time he goes to the bathroom.
Apparently it didn't have enough work/life balance
user310756
was it a ...a ... cactus by any chance looks for Mags
@JohnDvorak I've a pot plant in that died state as a reminder for the remaining four.
user310756
@JohnDvorak or enough water/sun balance
mag
mag
@YvetteColomb had to take some precautions
make it a bit less easy to find me across sites and profiles
won't stop anyone determined but ...
user310756
15:36
@rene you really are an evil flower aren't you?
yes
user310756
@mag I thought you were John's dead plant man!
@rene Reminds me of David Tennant in Good Omens, lol
@JohnDvorak That's why the bases I designed for a co-workers succulent planters I printed for him have nice big bases. On top of fitting both sizes in one.
And interlocking to make a solid base
15:45
@JohnDvorak pot plant or potted plant?
potted plant. Sorry.
hah
I do suppose I could get a pot plant, too
They're nice :)
Bit smelly though.
They're super-healthy as long as you don't attempt to set them on fire
15:46
They're pretty dope
@JohnDvorak Yeah, that's because you're not supposed to smoke the whole plant...
I wouldn't smoke it. I'd just mix it into a skin cream.
@Trasiva Is it pun time?
or maybe rub it wholesale. I'd have to do research on the specifics first, including how many plants I'm allowed to have.
@Emilie You bet your grass it is.
15:50
@JohnDvorak Probably none. But I think as long as you stay under 5 here (Netherlands) they're just destroyed and no other severe consequences. For a country that's known for cannabis use, we're really, really slow on legalizing the actual growing of the plants.
@JohnDvorak just you mention plants and ping @rene
@Tinkeringbell That's because your government is too high.
XD wouldn't put it past them :)
We're generally a low country though.
Oh, good... another podcast. Business as usual! :/
> I was going to bust my dealer
but then I got high
then I got high
then I got high
15:52
Welp
Now that's stuck in my head
Time to go listen to Baby Shark
wiiiiiire shark do doo do doo do doo
btw, that "bullshit" bookmarklet is amazing
@Trasiva So far, I've managed to happily avoid ever listening to it. I'm going to keep it that way :P
15:55
@Tinkeringbell Do iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit
I had the theme of fresh prince, in my head for months
i'd wake up in the morning, and it'd be playing in my head.
any idle moment and my brain be like "IIIIIIIIIIIIIN WEST PHILIDEL...."
@Trasiva NOPE!
Eventually I sat and listened to it on repeat for about 3 hours and that stopped it.
@Tinkeringbell Let it go~, let it go~, just drop your inhibitioooons. Turn on your sound, move your mouse, and click that play buttoooooon.
Honestly... If a lady says no, you respect that! :D
16:04
...well dammit.
You got me there.
I had another response based along the dumpster fire that SE has going on, but I decided it was in bad taste.
It's the nuclear option :P
It always works wonders though XD
That's not fair
'cause I didn't assume your gender. :P
Got'em
@Trasiva You don't have to, I'm flaunting it about everywhere! :P
Halp! Police!
I need an adult
16:08
Hi, I'm also 28 years-old. That counts as 'adult', right? :P
Otherwise... I believe there was someone in here about my mom's age...
I'm 30, and I don't count myself as an adult most days.
Pfff, kids
@Tinkeringbell hahaha, that is sooo cute ... pinches cheeks
@Bart Careful. That puts you in reach of the beak too!
@rene Hah, I say the same thing when my parents bug me about grandchildren.
16:10
Beaks, hammers, ...
Poor Bart. The smiting stick is apparently not up to defend against those?
@Bart Battlestar Galactica?
Hahaha
@Trasiva ah the joys of being match made. I bug my parents about doing it so they can have grandkids
I just enjoy my life too much to tie myself just for the sake of kids.
16:16
Ah, join me in not wanting children
I'm not particularly sold on the idea of having kids, but if I ever settled down and my partner wanted them, I feel like I'd be up to the challenge.
But it's not a "I need to bring crotch fruit into this world" hard core need.
@Trasiva "Things not to say on a first date"
@Trasiva But then once they're there, they have a way to become the only thing that really matters :)
Plus you can make them mow your lawn
@Cereal They make machines that do that for you now
And you don't have to wipe their ass for two to three years.
16:19
I mean you don't have to
You can probably litter train a child
It's called potty training and they need to at least be able to move independently for that!
Hold up their own head, stuff like that ;)
I'm a little upset there's no questions on parenting se about litter training your child. Where are these people's curiority
I hereby declare @Cereal has failed the parenting test and is not allowed children for another year :P
Poor cerbrus
Oh wait... OOPS! I thought you were someone else :P
There. Fixed it XD
Now let's all stay quiet until a confused cerbrus returns :P
16:26
points at the parrot ...
I'm a parrot. I only repeat what I was taught to say.
lol
@Tinkeringbell Do you have a moment for a quick non-controversial comment clean-up here?
i don't know what to do
@Rubiksmoose I asked for the same, she knows.
@Gwideon what's up?
16:38
i come in here and I see some really random stuff and have no Idea what to say. that tends to be what happens
@rene the sky. Also i'm fine just a little stressed.
Dogs have three eyelids on each eye.
I don't believe you
wait really
You may not like it
But dogs come with built-in auto-deploying safety goggles and you don't.
I have auto deploying safety goggles, they just aren't very good
16:41
well we do but we go blind when we use them
it's like welding goggles
Wait wait wait. A dog has 3 transparent eyelids?
No, just three in total
Also, Vulcans have three ears
@Gwideon Nobody has any idea what to say. Which leads to random stuff. Which leads to nobody knowing what to say. It never ends!
user194636
@JohnDvorak :wat:
@terdon Colloquially referred to as parliament
16:50
I leave for 20 minutes for standup
And it's like the circus came to town
@194636 They have the left ear, the right ear, and the final front ear.
@Shog9 they do?
user194636
@JohnDvorak Oh dear I walked right into that
@JohnDvorak That's bad. Even by my standards.
@Cereal Ah, you must be British. My condolences :(
16:52
@user58 you have standards?
@terdon does any English-speaking country have it good?
@JourneymanGeek that is a fair point
I don't have standards, that's why I'm here.
@Rubiksmoose Can it wait until after dinner?
@JohnDvorak Why limit to English speaking? But the Brits have particularly good reason to be disappointed in their parliament at the moment.
16:55
Czech here. Our politicians are too busy with other stuff to ruin the country.
I do suppose that same approach would work with SE - a year's worth of free booze, crisis averted.
@JohnDvorak Czech mate.
Although my good 3D printer is also from the Czech Republic.
I don't even have a functional 2D printer. Although I do suppose the only thing it's missing is liquid ink.
If you're near Prague, go check out Prusa. I'm pretty sure they do tours pretty regularly there.
Thanks for the tip
The only downside is that assembling the printer is like a six to seven hour process.
17:06
@Tinkeringbell Oi!
@Cerbrus To be fair, wolves should not be left in charge of human babies.
Don't tell @Zoe.
@Trasiva One word: Mowgli. I rest my case.
That wasn't wolves
That was a panther, and then a bear.
@user58 Don't put that bad juju on me.
It might explain why I don't like human(oid) babies... At all.
17:13
I mean, I like baby carrots and baby corn.
Romulus?
I just don't do babies.
> "Honey, let's try and be rational about this. Have you seen a baby lately? They just eat and poop, and they cry and then they cry when they poop and poop when they cry. Now, imagine an ogre baby. They extra cry, and they extra poop!"
I get that reference
That last line makes it hard not to get it xD
17:15
Pffht
@Trasiva no, it was wolves
Huh, I'll be damned, you're right.
The panther was the wise old man figure :)
@Tinkeringbell oh definitely. Sorry. I shouldn't bug you here.
Idea for the next Noita update: add a metal bucket as one of the possible objects at the mines entrance. Kicking it would be an instakill, with the game over screen sporting: "cause of death: kicked the bucket"
17:29
@Rubiksmoose Oh, it's fine, no worries!. I'll finish desert and chat with Dad for a few minutes, and then I'll get to it.
17:49
Ben Popper on October 22, 2019

I’ve spent the better part of the last decade immersed in the world of technology. I could give a lengthy lecture on the history of LIDAR and the future of self-driving cars. I could explain what’s so fascinating about artificial intelligence that can beat humans in poker and why we shouldn’t be afraid of robot overlords just yet. I’ve got a cocktail party’s worth of witty things to say about the potential for brain-computer interfaces and our very cybernetic future. Despite all my years as a journalist covering technology, however, the closest I got to working on the code that makes all  …

....
Oh...k....
See onebox lol
right
that's what i'm questioning...
Well obviously, Ben Popper is the Worst Coder in the World.
That much should be clear.
17:59
just seems like a smokescreen. Interesting how the frequency of blog updates skyrocketed with all the drama going on
If it was a smokescreen, the smoke detector would be going off
mag
mag
@KevinB that seems a bit far fetched
@Cereal ahem
user194636
I'll wait for the podcast
Error: No smoke detected.

18:07
smoke detector has become sentient again :/
I, for one, am your new robot overlord.

@SmokeDetector ಠ_ಠ
18:22
@Trasiva growls
18:40
@SmokeDetector If I light you on fire, would that be good enough?
That would not be recommended.
@SmokeDetector oh, but it's too late.
@Zoethetransgirl Don't tempt me with a good time dammit.
Robert Harvey was suspended for 7 days.
3
@Trasiva huh?
18:48
Really? Which comment?
@GeorgeStocker Not surprised. He's been going unnecessarily hard a few times
@Zoethetransgirl Oh, that's always my reaction when someone growls or gets fiesty
Knowing how moderators operate, I assume it's a comment and I assume they already deleted it before suspending Robert Harvey.
True
He's been going hard on the paint lately
Kind of scorched earth-esque
mag
mag
@GeorgeStocker huh. anger boiled over probably
That has happened a lot lately
mag
mag
that feeling of hopelessness that the thing you thought was so great and you spent your free time building and maintaining all these years going down the drain
and you can't do anything about it, it's a lot worse then mere indignation
Probably especially as a former mod
Mods put a lotta hard work into keeping the exchanges nice
Now it kinda feels like the charred husk has been urinated on and left to die.
mag
mag
18:55
can't imagine how much worse that is for someone that spent 10+ years on the thankless job of moderation
I....... i don't understand anyone who can do that
in a nice way I mean. I couldn't give up that much of my life.
Not for something that literally doesn't give back.
I think it's sad that I feel like this.
mag
mag
idealism
the desire to make your mark on the world, to work on something bigger then yourself
hmmm I've got that
mag
mag
why do people volunteer for anything?
> Not for something that literally doesn't give back.
18:57
the want. but. I don't feel like anything would be enough :(
@mag Because some people are masochists.
And I don't feel good enough either lol
mag
mag
you do get something back
lol because it hurts.
mag
mag
giving is its own reward in a sense.
18:58
It gives back tons of hilarious anecdotes.
@djsmiley2k-CoW it doesn't really take that much of your life.
mag
mag
it gives a good feeling
... none of which can be shared :(
It depends... do you look at it as "giving up" part of your life, or do you look at it as doing something with your life?
mag
mag
I don't donate money out of altruism for instance. I do it because making a positive difference makes me happy.
18:58
And you can always take a step back if you feel the burn out coming.
@Trasiva It doesn't feel... good, I will say that. Especially when moderators have privately worked behind the scenes to guide and help SE see for the months and years leading up to this that this wouldn't really be the best way to solve our problems.
Maybe if i was doing it, I'd feel differently.
mag
mag
I think it's sort of inherent in the human experience to want to rise above the me and here.
There are a lot of conversations happening behind closed doors, and at least recently there was only slightly more interaction between mods and SE inc than there's been between SE inc and the community publicly.
I thnk my life has burnt me.
mag

18:59
@GeorgeStocker probably that same feeling of helplesness but amplified
