I thought it captures well how demented your life can become in a couple minutes of that montage in the last third
410
410
Yes, a couple of times actually.
the movie Scanner Darkly has this baaad fullscreen filter effect that makes it hard to watch
410
410
Yeah... :/ the technology getting in the way big time there.
do you know what you are going after, reading this?
hey @Shog9 are you around or just pretending to be at work? <3
22:02
possibly both?

I don't decide in advance. A bunch of unread stuff on Kindle, so... will grab one on an impulse.
I'm analyzing a request to rewrite wikia links, because... I might as well find something useful to do
I only re-read one book which I remembered fondly from 15 years ago, otherwise I've been "reading" dialogue boxes in RPG games and lore in item descriptions
I was wondering if I could bounce an idea off you, but I don't really want to do it in public
not even watched enough movies in the recent 5 or so years to say I've watched any worthwhile ones to recommend
22:04
@Sklivvz email? Twitter DM? Postcard with a piece of masking tape over the writing? ;-)
(masking tape in shape of writing)
i forget there's no privacy here, I'll dm you on twitter
masking tape perforated in shape of writing
oh yea I've been reading a bunch of manga, totally forgot about that, since it's not exactly writing but I guess it is a form of literature lol
@Shog9 Link please?
Also, simply rewriting them to fandom.com isn't entirely desirable, as some wikis were migrated to wikia.org instead.
22:06
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog the request came in form of a perforated masking tape, so he's analyzing it with a microscope, nothing to link unfortunately :p
@user1306322 Not even a chat message?
@user1306322 do you follow My Hero academia?
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog but seriously I think it might have been internal, not publicly available for linking, who knows, otherwise there'd probably be a link already
@StephanS yea, but not in depth
What manga are you into right now?
right now I'm at various chapters of a lot of them, but off the top of my head I'm reading WataMote since I read somewhere that it becomes better after the animated chapters end
I don't even know the titles of what I'm reading lol I have to go look it up
recently I read Goodnight, PunPun and that was a dang shame
it's rated as one of the best mangas of all time but it fails to deliver anything worthwhile at the end
such high quality artwork all for nothing
side characters can be safely removed from the story without any loss
22:12
I haven't heard of that one before(WataMote). If it not too much to ask can you do a quick plot.
I mostly only read mangas which have not been animated, otherwise I watch the anime series and don't touch the manga
so yea, I've seen everything I was interested in by now, now it's time to read lol

Q: Can we fix broken Memory Alpha links?

DarrenIt appears that at some point in the recent (distant? I don't know) past, Memory Alpha changed its domain from memory-alpha.wikia.com to memory-alpha.fandom.com. Given the copious number of times links to that site appear in questions and answers on SciFi.SE, is it possible to fix them all with s...

it's a comedy about a girl who wants to be popular but goes ass-backwards about it and gets into ridiculous situations
interesting
if you're familiar with Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, you know how you can invent a wacky situation out of thin air, it's kinda like that
but my general anime recs are different
there's one anime which hits those whom all other anime misses, and I'm sure one person here can attest to that, it's Mushishi myanimelist.net/anime/457/Mushishi
22:15
isn't that the one about a teacher?
yea Sensei is teacher or doctor :p
I think I remember that one
I had to read the ending to Nisekoi coz the anime didn't complete the story and that was worth it imo
here's a handy sheet of animated vs non-animated chapters if you don't wanna miss anything docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/…
thanks
there was one anime that made me mad watching it (not at the show just in a protective sense) and that was goblin slayer
mmm I see
I've yet to watch that one
I've seen Grimgar and the other isekai one from the same season which by the way did you notice how none of these MMO world animes only get 1 season and just never continue?
Re Zero is getting a continuation tho
Konosuba isn't quality material but eh it's fine
22:19
goblin slayer was unapologetic in some of its depictions
I have not seen Sword Art Online
neither have I
@StephanS so I've read, I'll have to check it out in due time :p
I like it when studios stray from the templates
but at the same time I don't feel like I'm missing anything with sword art online
yea I don't think I'm missing anything either
22:22
@user1306322 and @StephanS I don’t recommend it
like 90% of the time I try an anime, not worth it, and I've seen a lot
It was really cool when it was the first anime I watched much
But it’s bad in retrospect
I heard it's the same thing over and over again just in different "game" settings
(I was like "baf"... big as frick?... oh bad!)
@StephanS yes
The first half of the first season was pretty okay
Then it became literally the exact same, but with no stakes
22:23
I like it when there is a new type of plot twist or a new type of psychological dilemma presented but almost always it's the same old stuff we've seen 20 years ago
or 50 years if you've been reading scifi literature :p
They took the whole thing with people dying in real life and just removed it
look I've watched all of Bleach I know how to enjoy a point show
XD
30 ep for one fight
oof that's a long fight unless it's a 2-minute per episode micro show
I need to get off this site, I have waste way too much time on here today

This is great. The last thing I'd expect in this room during a meta shitstorm is Anime. Is the world upside-down?
kit
kit
22:35
@StephanS well~ he just hate goblins~
I think we're all done with the sh*tstorm, it happened, no one at SO cared, everyone moved on
@Stormblessed You're probably the 1st person I've seen disparage SAO except for part of 2 of season 2. (ALO2)
I love when there's all this nonsense drama and Mortensen edits the drama. Brings a sense of continuity.
@Mysticial it's coz I came in here lol
wherever I go, anime follows
@john copyeditors gonna copyeditate
22:42
oh it's coz you don't see my username and avatar here, otherwise you wouldn't be surprised
yea you gotta argue in style
@AndrasDeak I just want to be them. They're inmune to the shit hitting the fan thing.
I have a huge respect for that.
How do you know? Just because someone doesn't stop being compulsive doesn't mean thay are immune :P
@OptimusPrime better also add a link to something, so people can see and judge for themselves.
haha nice point, we'll see
that's great
22:45
I suspect they'd just do their thing wherever mainstream attention is. But don't know.
well, all in all, the content is not getting lost, it's only getting diluted
what's being lost is potential new content though... and the quality... actually a lot is being lost if you think about it :D
yea no need to reiterate
my personal belief is that to maximize the usefulness of SE content, it needs to be separated from the business entity that controls it right now, but how - I don't know, someone else might
this is kinda like youtube
if you don't know, here's a ~30 minute overview on what is suffocating the ability to earn money for a lot of youtubers in the last 2-3 years: youtube.com/watch?v=ll8zGaWhofU
@user1306322 you just take advantage of its license, and profit
except the profit part lol
wat? no
imagine if the real goal of the company was to create the best Q&A site in the world and not earn money first and foremost, I doubt we'd be in this mess today, and those mod tools and whatnot would exist
22:57
even if that's their goal, if they fail, someone'll be up to take advantage of the content
you just create a better system and poof, they're dead
some content is barely worth taking advantage of, like who's gonna scrape quora for text
don't you dare to compare quora to 2008-01/10/2019 stack exchange
I don't care what business is dead or not, all I care about is the content, and what we're seeing looks like one of those Digg level wrong moves
if you want to get that philosophical, I would agree every Internet thing is bound to an eventual myspaceization
where did Digg users go? to Reddit. What's going on on reddit today? Funny you should ask old.reddit.com/r/announcements/comments/dbf9nj/…
idk I'd really love to see some community non-profit organization host at least one Q&A site
decentralized, anonymous, with all that good stuff
23:01
I don't know what's that about, but it prompted me a huge ad of Liam Gallagher so I just don't care of actual content
I don't think even Wikipedia is that good
would you mind explaining why you don't have ublock origin installed?
@user1306322 heh, company that listens to its user base. Amazing. :)
That's what SE used to be.
Can I add that to my glorious Chromium 47 without creating a bigger security risks than I'm already playing with?
have you heard about our lord and savior Ad Blocker?
I repeat, is that an extension, or a builtin thing?
23:03
allegedly it blocks harmful scripts embedded in ad blocks
it's an extension and it's important that you use Ublock Origin specifically, not just any Adblock Plus or something
I'm not installing extensions to Chromium 47.
why not
I bet they'd sack my thing.
status-completed
@john ???
performance or privacy concerns?
because ad blockers should improve both
23:05
Security, damit, it's a browser from 2015!
I can't browse the Internet with this thing.
I'm already taking too many risks by browsing SE [their ads, actually] with it.
you'd have to confirm with folks on Information Security but I think ad scripts slow you down more than an extension that blocks them
SE software is like... six years old? so I'm not too worried about them.
have you also heard about script disabling extensions?
410
410
They build daily, so... 1 day old?
@john not relevant for ads, which load external content.
23:07
blacklist everything, whitelist only scripts you trust and need for the site to work (like chat here but there aren't any ad scripts on this page afaik)
@410 what's the code base age ? ._.
@john each file and its own age
@ShadowTheCoffeeWizard that's why I wrote the risks are because of ad shit, not SE itself
Probably still 9 years old files around, but likely most are quite up to date
@john heh. true
Google recently removed few ad blockers from chrome store
23:11
there's no need to use Chrome in the first place
why not firefox?
Because they were attaching their referral code in all online shopping sites, the user visits. So whenever the user makes a purchase, the ad blocker shows to the site that the purchase is made via their referral link the developers get their commission
@OptimusPrime Those were determined to be fraudulent
@user1306322 I hate that thing
please God protect Firefox many more years
23:11
@OptimusPrime pls explain lol
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog yes. See my second message
@john is that a "bless your heart" or do you think it's good?
It's one reason why I still use EdgeHTML-based Edge today
@user1306322 for SE? Hell no, I'd use Firefox for important stuff, and have other browsers for unimportant babble
@user1306322 I like the developer options provided Google
23:12
@user1306322 is it bad or what?
is it run by some ultra evil company, or what?
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog you mean this??
@john uhh are you using different browsers to separate your browsing history and logins?
I'm starting to write moderable material, so am sorry going to bed. Have a g'day y'all
@OptimusPrime That was fixed several months ago
@john firefox? I don't think it's either bad or run by evil people, at least it's not as for profit as google clearly is
23:15
The Mozilla Corporation (stylized as moz://a) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Mozilla Foundation that coordinates and integrates the development of Internet-related applications such as the Firefox web browser, by a global community of open-source developers, some of whom are employed by the corporation itself. The corporation also distributes and promotes these products. Unlike the non-profit Mozilla Foundation, and the Mozilla open source project, founded by the now defunct Netscape Communications Corporation, the Mozilla Corporation is a taxable entity. The Mozilla Corporation reinvests...
ok night
yea I know the owning entity is for profit but the foundation is not
or maybe I misunderstand the hierarchy these days
We can't say like that because Ubuntu is provided by Canonical
in any case I think John is doing something weird that can be solved by Firefox, Ublock Orign and separate profiles to separate browsing sessions and logins
There're lots of examples in which for profit companies provide free or open source things
I don't want to include Linux things from Microsoft in this list
23:17
Firefox is great
I think Firefox has containers in public versions now but I'm using "never remember any history" and it doesn't work in this mode
It’s as good as Chrome but it’s not made by Google
above all, I configured my firefox to work with burp. So I've to open burp if I want to use Firefox. That's another reason I hate firefox ;p
410
410
burp
what's burp lol
410
410
23:20
Too much sweet & sour chicken
Burp Suite
first time hearing
It's a pentesting tool
well, a proxy with many useful tools
so basically paper
well, see, this isn't the kind of usage scenario I'm looking for when I give out firefox and adblock recommendations :D
23:21
portswigger.net/burp They offer free community edition and other folks offer free licensing tool for their pro edition
people say using pentesting tools for everyday use is dangerous as they have a lot of vulnerabilities exposed by default for the purpose of pentesting, so if you don't know how to close all of them, it's a riskier affair than just getting a public build
but I don't suppose you don't know that already
@user1306322 air coming out of the mouth
Burp is an interceptor tool. It'll generate a certificate for us and we have to configure proxy to localhost in the browser and import the certificate. Once we completed these 2 steps, the tool can intercept our requests. Burp Suite is a trusted app by thousands of people but I never enter any personal info in firefox. Also burp won't listen to connections from external ip
I've parrotsec in vmware but nothing's personal there.
@ShadowTheCoffeeWizard no that's breath
burp is like air expelled through the food tract tube, forgot its name
esophagus or something idk
@user1306322 *yawning
23:29
but it's not throat coz the airway is part of it too
umm then you have to specify contraction of certain muscles... in a specific configuration at that...
I'm tired of this biology stuff can we get back to trainwrecks and anime
what is Robert doing with those revisions lol meta.stackoverflow.com/posts/389906/revisions
not just him. I'm also yawning. When the clocks ticks at 5:01 AM, what else I'm supposed to do ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
oh are you in one of those fun half-hour offset timezones?
or is your clock messed up :D
well yeah I'm on the 5 and half gang
It seems animated profile picture will animate on HNQ. Is this a bug?
What else you think a gif will do, OP?
23:47
@OptimusPrime I didn't think SE supported animated avatars when uploaded to internal hosting, only if it's an external avatar via gravatar, facebook or google
so yea I'd think of it as a bug too if I saw that
and personally I'm against anything animated if it's not a video I intended to watch
@ONSTRIKEfromStackOverflow lol nice entrance there in the top right corner :D
oh dang 1770 days suspension
I hope it was undeserved
Aw it was J
always
Ok. have to go to bed. It's 5.23 am
PS:- I am associated with the company
