Looks reasonable. Post your broken code on repl.it then post a question about it. For example, "Can anyone help me fix my code?" A good choice for the title would be Help me

1:45 AM
@VoteDukakis throwing shade on SO aside... Hey, if it works and they're happy with how it goes, more power to them.

> Don't do this: Don't post homework questions, Don't use words like 'HELP' or 'PLEASE' in the title, ...
Anyway, honest opinion, some of the features look good for debugging code, no hard feeling...
And thus, SO and Repl.it can coexist peacefully...

Kind of interesting seeing all GoT HNQ on both Movies.SE and SciFi.SE~

I was trying to figure out why the userscript didn't include those 12 ...

I can move them back for you to science, or go science in the Chimney ;)

I work it out ;)
This will be a tough day. Need to consume all remaining chocolate eggs before they expire.

→ 2 chimneys moved to Chimney

7:06 AM
Hahaha are those eggs from last year? :P

well, you don't want to give them that chance, do you?

Why not? chocolate doesn't expire that soon/easily ;)

I won't experiment with it. It is just too tempting

I'm glad there are no easter eggs to be found here. I'd eat too many, get a rash, spent weeks being unhappy about my lack of better judgment...

I had a readily uneventful easter

7:34 AM
In today's episode of how on earth did this get upvoted: workplace.stackexchange.com/a/134239

@Magisch I read "easter" as "disaster", blamed my left-screen-biased monitor...

Makes me feel a little dirty for even being a member of the community that somehow awarded that answer 80 upvotes

@Magisch Of course, don't forget its meta post

Are there really that many people who suggest that just because the credibility dynamic might play out that way it's ok to add insult to injury and ruin a coworkers life if they dare to speak up about some seriously inappropriate behavior at work?
forget IPS, if people raised a stink over this I could completly see why

8:12 AM
@rene Not every site requires 10+ rep to embed images

@VoteDukakis ... just realized what they did there... consecutive elections since 15th and 22th!!

@Magisch Looks more like someone playing the system with a strange question. It now has 1 extra downvote ;)

@SonictheWizardWerehog that is clearly beneficial for spammers.

@rene Even on the sites that require it, it's still possible for all users to upload images to SE Imgur

hehe nodding towards @NoD
:P
@NoD.js
@rene on such cases I post one message with "batch of three"... not that I care about pings as you know well, but maybe glo or bar do... ;)
Anyway... all gone now. :D
@Tinkeringbell after about a year it becomes not very tasty. :/ (before the actual expire date arrives)

8:27 AM
When I started I didn't realize I would post three. But good point. Will remember

@VoteDukakis ohh
@rene cheers! :D

Q: Did the North Korean government ever say that Kim Jong-il never defecated?

StormblessedRecently, someone claimed while talking to me that North Korea said that Kim Jong-il never needed to poop. Is there any evidence that this claim is true, such as an Internet Archive page? I have found an unsourced Guardian article, and while I generally trust them, this seems very outlandish. CB...

When you have an entire economy to poop on, don't say enough to a toilet.

@Magisch It HNQed

@JourneymanGeek In today's episode of "How was this not deleted as r/a before it HNQ'd"

Was it really R/A? Why it's not deleted?

'pparently not. I flagged it and replied to the meta discussion arguing for its deletion
next step is contact us

Ah... now I just realized the clever wording that fooled me...
I read it as "Anybody at work making any allegations of such a disgusting, unprofessional act should and will report to HR [...]". Yeah, I'm a fool.
I'm getting scared of myself now...

This is someone taking it to twitter away from a worse version of the prior HNQ hububb
since that question and answer was also hnq

9:50 AM
Yeah, to be fair, I was more surprised about the title when I first saw it on HNQ though.

10:07 AM
@Magisch Actually - Its a great opportunity to rexamine our processes. If I'd seen that in HNQ, what would/should I have done? ;p
And I'm wondering, should we have had a custom flag done to let mods know?

@JourneymanGeek I'd laugh at the comment thread :(

@NoDistractionWizard all fun and games till someone loses an eye...

10:30 AM
Bad words were only there in HNQ for 11 hours; the title was edited, then the whole question was removed some hours later
@JourneymanGeek Do you think it's a good idea to allow a site's mods to also remove an HNQ from another site on their own site's HNQ?

Cause I'm not a mod on that site

@JourneymanGeek I'd argue its too late at that point. It should have never been upvoted, it should have been r/a destroyed after the first couple of people saw it

@SonictheWizardWerehog not all mods can be trusted to use their abilities appropriately, and its something that can potentially cause damage
imagine what happens if a mod decides he hates WP and starts dehnqing any workplace posts

10:35 AM
To be clear, it would only affect the site you moderate (to clarify, for example, prevent a specific question from Worldbuilding from showing up in the HNQ sidebar on SU, a site you moderate)

A: Let's go back to HNQ!

CatijaThanks to all of you for weighing in here. We hear you and we're going to make this change pretty soon - apologies for the delay and the imprecise plans but let me tell you about it. There's one element that didn't get shipped with the HNQ update that I think will really help all sites - but par...

@Magisch ^^this is applicable here

The question was on HNQ for 18 hours before monica killed it from there. That's not the problem. The problem is that the answer is providing dangerous, illegal and arguably sexist and incredibly unethical advice, and has been upvoted to comparably high heavens

True; I was solely referring to the title in my previous message. But I think having a minimum age threshold for questions would have helped solve this problem.
That bad answer was only posted a couple hours later; my personal preference for a threshold is 24 hours, but even the six-hour threshold proposed by Catija there would have likely worked.

11:00 AM
OH
@SonictheWizardWerehog that means keeping track of which questions are shunned on which site
overcomplicated
@Magisch if someone flagged it as such, it could have gone quicker

@JourneymanGeek The mods were at least very aware of its existance

11:14 AM
@Magisch true but the right decision sometimes needs more information

I don't know how users flagging it as R/A would have made a difference in that case.

Ah no. More that the original post itself could be a problem and that it's in hnq

Passing blame around is useless anyways

12:05 PM
@JourneymanGeek With the current system, I guess I FINALLY have a reason to fast-track things directly to the mods...
(i.e. HNQ actions)

12:22 PM
@SonictheWizardWerehog hopefully rarely

1:18 PM
tried very hard to make controversial HNQ on MSE SU...

something with Linux vs Windows must work, no?

something with TempleOS...

@NoDistractionWizard hardly controversial

ReactiveTempleOS...

Actually I wouldn't mind good reactos questions

@SonictheWizardWerehog That pattern looks like it's already caught by Potentially bad keyword in answer, Pattern-matching website in body, Pattern-matching website in answer, and Potentially bad keyword in body; append -force if you really want to do that.

Q: How to handle serial downvote from diamond mod

leymannxYesterday there came this question: Gulp in Bootstrap child theme. I flagged it for being off-topic and provided a helpful link in the comments. One of our diamond mods provided an answer to it. I downvoted this answer for being rather a comment than an answer and for answering an off-topic ques...

(not) clickbait

Wanna put myself in that guy's shoes. "Hey, wonder what I can contribute to the universe today . . . let's go tro . . . share my wisdom with a random guy asking about a comet's orbit."
@NoDistractionWizard I expected more pitchforks

They are still busy with eggs?

Sounds like they started to understand each other's viewpoints in the end. Since when does that happen on the internet?

@MEEthesetupwizard what's that broken link?

@NoDistractionWizard Or decapitating and brutally murdering chocolate rabbits.

4:16 PM
@MEEthesetupwizard Nah, the joke was that I’m already a web developer

@NoDistractionWizard It's a broken link

The tweet seems to have been deleted.

@MEEthesetupwizard What did it say before?

But I changed my mind on phrasing it the way I did

Voluntarily removed by its author

4:17 PM
@AdamLear well one can't know, with the recent development...

Sri Lanka bombings?

I’ve been here for over 7 years. You can assume my departure tweet would be a little less flippant :)

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog I linked to a (now deleted) tweet by @Adam stating that he is "gonna get a new career". I then asked him whether he would be really leaving...

@AdamLear If you did leave, would you retain your mod privileges on SO?

4:19 PM
The tweet had an image of an FB ad I got that said “Tired of your job? Become a web developer”

I hate it when I have to explain a joke
Almost as much as I hate preparing a sandwich

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog Dunno, depends on the terms/circumstances. But probably.

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog Skilvvz or a user with similar spelling retained his Skeptics diamond

@M.A.R.TheChemicalWizard Sklivvz, yes

The joke is that's an FB ad, not SO ad...

I think the current norms is you get back whatever mid rights you had before you were employee - mainly for CMs and Devs

Have there been any instances where a ragequitting user used a sock puppet to downvote their own posts, so that they'd be automatically deleted as negatively-scored posts, or later Roomba'd as old, 1-score posts with no answers and little activity, once their account is deleted?

That... sounds like a very contrived scenario.

ragequitting is an exception
we have exception handlers, right?

@Mithrandir quite

7:13 PM
Sounds like one of Joker's plans
He'd probably gain some popularity on IPS.
And Philosophy.

Q: Can skipping breakfast increase risk of heart disease?

dylan-myersThis article from the clickbait off-shoot of The Independent newspaper, iNews (archive) states that: Skipping breakfast on a regular basis could be linked to an increased risk of dying from heart disease citing a study of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey by University of...

Eat your breakfasts, people.

wha
they closed down the diner we usually go to on the weekend and replaced it with a subway, wendys, and dunkn' donuts :(

7:28 PM
Here in Austin we've always resisted against big chains

7:40 PM
Now all we have for a general breakfast diner is ihop and a crappy buffet place

dunkin donuts sounds better than both of those

Shog seems to be going on a spree of migrating questions from here to Literature

that's what happens when you carefully design a test script and then... Somehow end up on a production site.

:/

only noticed because it was running WAY TOO QUICKLY

Lol

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog We desperately need @Mith's insight on those matters
TBF SE posts are among the best "internet" literature historians from the future would want to research about

@Shog9 Is this script related to mass-migrating questions (e.g. during the two major meta splits)?

no

I hope they don't find certain other places. What would they think of us? O.O

7:47 PM
setting up a bunch of migration-rejection scenarios locally to test against

all in preparation of the all SE sites get a single place: Stack Overflow. That solves the issue with many databases in one DAG as well ....

8:03 PM
@Shog9 in case you didn't notice, you might wanna take a look at the revision history of that one

@M.A.R.TheChemicalWizard @Shog decides to spam my site just after I shut down my computer... :P

@Mithrandir Pff, it's clearly the krakens

Rob
Migration script vs. rejection script:

xD

2 hours later…
10:28 PM
Is it possible to vote twice on a post or comment if it was migrated?

Yes

Why?
Bad programming?

No, it's that the existing score gets transferred as is

That sounds like a bug.

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog That's not completely correct. There's some caveats.

10:31 PM
I mean I'm not complaining. I was able to downvote a crappy answer twice.

@forest It's... not really fixable. The votes are tied to your site profile, not your network account... there's no real way to transfer those when it's super common for a user to not even have a profile on the other site.
@forest ... see. Now you're getting the picture. :P

@Catija But casting a vote requires making an account, right?

So when an account is created, why not check if a linked account had already voted and if so, mark the question as having already been voted on by them?
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog "it's a feature, not a bug" :D

@forest Votes from migrated posts aren't counted in that way, though.

10:34 PM
@Catija Such as?

Yeah but they could be.

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog Post is negatively scored, the score is set to zero on migration.

I mean, this is a website for programmers. It's not like we're short of them.

(briefly lost my websockets connection)

In any case, the planned maintenance shutdown is approaching - be prepared

@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog What time?

Was scheduled for 10 minutes prior to now, hasn't happened yet

Guess the dev's alarm clocks are down for maintenance too.

Such a graceful failover! It's almost as if the devs don't know what they're doing!
