Wait, I'm not necessarily out of the elections... yet... Right? As long I'm less down voted than the remaining 16 candidates.
@jcolebrand Epic.
@Moshe Right. Not technically out. But I'm sorry to say that you're unlikely to beat the users with 100+ votes when you're currently negative.
That's partly why I was working on this script:
node_list = document.getElementById("mainbar").childNodes[11].childNodes[1].childNodes;
table_element = document.getElementById("mainbar").childNodes[11];
for( var i=0; i < node_list.length; i = i + 2) {
    if (parseInt(node_list[i].childNodes[1].childNodes[1].childNodes[1].childNodes[5].innerText) < 50){
        /* Something about table_element.deleteRow(i) here...? */
   }
}
to remove low-voted candidates from the list. My terrible javascript skills failed me, though.
Also, that's probably ugly as sin to someone who knows Javascript.
Sorry for that. But, if someone wants to work on it more, ping me with the update.
00:38
Heh, right thanks. Maybe I can get my act together tough.

Oh wow, new profile layout deployed on Meta. :O
RIP, Trebuchet
You did well.
hmm that new profile manages to waste loads of screen (16:9) if I maximize the browser, but have horizontal scroll bars if I have two windows tiled next to each other on one screen
01:04
@awoodland I see that too. Do all the folks over at StackExchange have 30" monitors?
Jin
Jin
01:38
@Moshe @awoodland what do you mean? the page is designed for minimal 1024 resolution
02:06
@jin The columns on a widescreen monitor using a larger resolution than 1024/768 seem to be wasting space. But most monitors aren't double that, so when halved it looks to wide.
*too
Jin
Jin
@Moshe fixed width for optimal words per line is better than stretching the content to monitor size.
that's why we choose 1024 as the width, so a paragraph doesn't become 2 lines, 3000px wide. that's not good for reading

Based on this qestion on Meta, I want to discuss combined tags:
4
Q: Shouldn't the “convert” tag be burninated?

BenoitIt seems to me that "convert" is an ImageMagick component, but most questions tagged convert (1,945 questions) deal with various conversions of various formats into other formats. Shouldn't the noun conversion (2,926 questions) be used for such questions (even if IMO it does not categorize a que...

Someone say here that all tags should be able to stand on their own. I disagree with this.
@jin - I'm not the only person that runs two windows side by side in 1920x1200 am I?
awe
awe
Take for instance the tag [types]. It makes little sence unless you also add a programming language tag.
@awe I disagree with that assertion - you can have quite a lot of things about types (as in data types) which are entirely language agnostic (strong vs weak typing, "primitive" types, float/int/decimal/fraction inheritance and typing)

2 hours later…
awe
awe
12:48
@awoodland OK. What is your opinion on the [convert] and [conversion] tags that was discussed in the referenced question? I feel that conversion is a valid tag that will make sense in combination with other tags.
@awe - the problem to my mind seems to be that the tag means quite a lot of different things to different people
so it's the ambiguity I dislike
an expert in the ImageMagick convert module probably isn't an expert in say converting between two different floating point representations
so the tag as it stands is basically useless to that hypothetical expert, because the meaning of the tag changes when paired with other tags
13:04
@YiJiang Ahahahahah
@TimStone Oh my
How did that happen :D
I don't even know :D
Should I, eh, inform him?
I imagine so, the poor user is in shock
Ah well, just for a taste of the madness I activated that script again
13:48
Just ran three blocks to catch the bus. Made it but it hurts.
14:05
Was there a font change ~12 hours ago?
@PopularDemand someone else asked that in the C++ chatroom
where exactly did you think it had changed?
Titles.
Also other large text (e.g. "Know someone who can answer? Share a link to this question via email, twitter, or facebook.").
in Lounge<C++> on Stack Overflow Chat, 4 hours ago, by R. Martinho Fernandes
Is it just me, or did the question title font change on SO?
(didn't want to bias your answer by quoting that first)
I didn't spot anything different at all though
Changed from Trebuchet MS to Helvetica and Arial
@YiJiangs独角兽 I bet I don't have Trebuchet MS on this machine
14:14
You don't carry a copy of Trebuchet around with you wherever you go? I'm downvoting your mod candidacy.
Even if you're on Linux there's the ttf-mscorefont package
@YiJiangs独角兽 I don't seem to have it installed, so I guess it fell back on something else

Q: Question title font has changed

DragonLordThe question title font has changed. It is no longer Trebuchet MS but is now Helvetica. Is this normal, or is there a problem?

Clearly this is what balpha was referring to when he predicted impending cheese-moving surprise.

@awoodland I don't quite understand what you're asking. the new user page is designed for minimal of 1024px wide, like the rest of the site, since the day SO launched. if you run 2 windows side by side on a 1920px wide resolution, each window would be less than 960px. in your post you asked for the site design to basically fill in whatever res your browser window is, which is something we don't do.
@Jin - so flowing the layout is status wont-fix, that seems reasonable. The thing that bugged me I think is that on most of the site I hardly noticed that there was even a horizontal scroll bar when placing windows like that. The only content I lose on the main site is adverts and related questions, which I don't pay much attention to usually anyway. On the new profile though it looks like it's packed so densely you lose actual buttons/content off the right hand side.
@awoodland - the status is [status-bydesign] and [status-isn't-broken] IMO, designing for 1024px is hard enough, asking any site with a large volume of content to render on a small display isn't reasonable
However, if you don't like that...click to get the mobile theme at the bottom :)
man, MSO really has been slacking off since I stopped visiting it every day
since when is writing "ADDED AWESOME" on a screenshot enough to warrant upvotes?
not even the shadow of a free handed circle!
Oh, it's there. You've just been away for so long that you lost the special Meta spidey-vision. It's sad, really.
15:12
@badp If it makes you feel better, balpha did raise the bar with a complete unicorn comic.
@PopularDemand We can't keep FHC to ourselves! We must share them with the uninitiated

Jin
@badp meta.so is turning into reddit! people will start posting kitten pics to get upvotes
so that they can enrich their inner circles and be prepared for the freehandedness that comes from it
@Jin kitten pics is precisely why I visit reddit, and freehanded circles is precisely why I visit meta. I see nothing wrong with that.
Some people insist reddit must have serious conversation and pertinent stuff and even want to start "pure" side reddits with an attitude. Fools
I could say the same about Secret Meta if it wasn't secret.
@Jin "start"?
Forget kittens, we have parrots.
15:28
Oh man, I've been missing out on the fun
Just because it still amuses me:
> Hello does anyone know why everything on meta is Rebecca Chernoff, including my name. – Mobinga 6h ago
Because there's some rchern in each and every one of us.
You just have to know where to look (try looking backwards).
There's activity in this room? What's going on? What are you trying to hide?
Everything.
16:00
Do we know anyone who works for AT&T? I could use a favor..
Caffeine?
Girl I know isn't eligible for an upgrade, but her iphone is almost entirely dead.. I know people at Verizon, but she's on AT&T =\
I hope I'm not like this all winter.
Like what, mooti?
Staring out the window glaring at each snowflake which happens to pass by.
16:08
Snow? Where?
The winter blues? Man, I love the winter. (Everything except frozen pipes and driving in it.)
This next cartoon is a segue for the next few:
Halo Bruder!
(Hello brother!)
I tend to be this way on years where I have to take 6 hours to make a 2 hour drive in the first storm of the season. And then still have transport trucks sliding around trying to crush me.
I'm much better once the weather commits to being below freezing for the season, actually. It's that darned ice I hate.
So I just answered my own question, then.
Luckily, my work has a pretty good policy on inclement weather... I can work from home.
Oh, I always work from home.
I just have these annoying protective instincts; my wife can't work from home and takes my daughter to the city with her for daycare.
Heh, as someone slides through the intersection outside my window.
Though generally speaking, that's because people are fairly uniformly ignorant about how much maintenance vehicles actually need in order to operate safely.
16:19
@TimStone ...
@RebeccaChernoff You can't make stuff like that up.
As DJ Lance Rock might say; Replacing everything with Rebecca Chernoff iiis AWESOOOOOOOOOOOOOME!
16:34
Indeed that's how Rebecca was hired: the task responsibility and blame lists were made AWESOOOOOOOOOOOOOME! by replacing all the names with Rebecca Chernoff.
Have you wondered why we've stopped hearing about the internal wheel of blame since Rebecca got hired?
passing all blame to me is invalid
Simple: it became boring as all the segment of the wheel now read 'rchern'
the wheel was just spun a bit ago!
it did not pick me!
@RebeccaChernoff said oy, your argument is invalid
16:36
@YiJiangs独角兽 OY_NOT_FOUND
(Waits eagerly for @RebeccaChernoff to turn into an adviceanimal)
adviceanimal? wth?
is the "wheel of blame" associated with a sharp stick perchance?
16:47
so "benefits: employees will never be poked with a sharp stick" - stackexchange.com/about/hiring is propaganda then :)
@awoodland it says "poked", not "stabbed"
a common mistake
17:27
I think an American company should want to hire me to work from home. Imagine what they'd save on health insurance.
18:27
@YiJiangs独角兽 has that been updated yet?

There is no conspiracy. None at all.
@jcolebrand Aww, so no conspiracy?
Or maybe you are part of it all... aha!
I am indeed part of it all ... mwahahahah-*hack*-*hack*-*cough*

is that the end of jcolebrand as it was of draschern (however that was spelled)?

What? You said there was no conspiracy, and there definitely isn't. Nor are there moderators editing dissension out of chat messages.
@drachenstern was a good man
It's a shame I bludgeoned him to death and buried the body in my basement.
@mmyers You're a moderator, so basically you are part of the problem! wonderful!
diamond? what diamond... ಠ_ಠ
@Trufa Why, thank you.
@jcolebrand database administrators is a smaller conspiracy

@jcolebrand Shog9 was right!

I kinda thought that's what the Constitution and the Amendments were all about, yeah
But when our politicians say bluntly "meh, we don't really care about your rights, just ours" ... I mean, to say it bluntly
Nothing like accidentally making a modal dialog box not go away ever.
@Jin Someone fails at syllogism there, methinks.
@mootinator it's obviously philosoraptor what fails at that
I thought philosoraptor was smart.
For instance:
I would prefer to think of it as expression of an inner art, via the only means the robot has to adequately portray it physically, without using any other medium to share that art.

Q: Is it possible to control LCD components in software?

MosheIs it possible, say, using a programming language like C or C++, to write a program that directly interacts with the power inverter or controller in a modern LCD monitor? I'm told that it used to be possible to forcefully overclock the oscillator in a CRT to make it catch on fire. I'm curious if ...

prepares to get burned
