@Glorfindel Could you also code another bot to fix broken UserVoice links? I realized that many of the old links that are currently leading to 404s are in fact not quite broken; they just need a slight URL change to work.
@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog maybe post pointing this out and the fix first?
01:29
@JourneymanGeek On mobile, and I forgot what the fix was; will post when I get back to my computer. Was intending to post when he responded to my message
No rush.
But always worth getting many eyes on a problem, not just one
@JourneymanGeek If I were to post it on meta I'm not sure how I'd post it. A self-answered question, a normal question, or a Stack Apps request?
The second - post pointing out user voice links are broken. Talk about why this matters and that it's fixable. Ask if the community feels it's worth fixing.
Don't worry about the bot.
For extra awesome a count of total user voice links may add impact - pointing out that all/not all may be broken
Basically make a case and facilitate the fixes if the community wants. The question is really about whether it's worth fixing first. The exact process we can deal with in a week or two
Importantly... We really can't be making these decisions in chat or worse unilaterally.
01:48
@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog just ask if we can fix the links. If the change is standard between them we have a tool, we just generally prefer to use it on bigger jobs.
(community/and or people with industrial grade bots ;p)

03:23
@Catija The job is not that big; as it turns out all threads other than ones marked "declined" are in fact deleted. But for those that aren't deleted, changing /pages/1722-general or /pages/general to /forums/1722-general fixes the link.
Performing said change to the link in this post leads to a valid link.
But not all the links will be fixed; as I said, if the actual thread wasn't marked "declined", it wasn't retained.

The FAX you send is very tiny because the compression algorithm takes care of it. It might take a minute on your end but it takes hours on the other end to decompress the short sequence of bytes that you transmit.

As a final notice... I somehow "despise" Gameloft and their inflated prices but I have to admit that every ads I ever saw in their games was about others games their produced (with one single exception - some mayor telephone company ads). Angry Birds on the opposite from what I saw was filled with random ads from providers that probably were found laying near the trash cans outside Rovio headquarters.

@ShadowWizard it's also the title of a game... which spawned meme (at least in Japan, not sure worldwide)
@ShadowWizard Nope, didn't know, but totally expected.
And all that intro just to resubmit something about ads in a game? I probably missed something there... @Derpy
11:01
@ShadowWizard it's the trailer of the game...
@ShadowWizard nope. Derpy likes being dramatic ;p
@ShadowWizard no, that was just the effect of running thru levels like this one again

@ShadowWizard the blood. Oh god the blood
back on topic, just a warning then.
insert dramatic choral music
Seems that currently Gameloft isn't doing a good job with ads scrutiny
just saw yesterday some pretty bad ads pop up in some games
We are talking about ads that automatically try to open store pages and web pages when displayed, with no user interaction involved.
trying to have them reported, but I am not really very confident this will be fixed soon (or fixed at all...)
so if anyone is playing Gameloft mobile games, it may be worth to keep an eye open
I think some of the ads may even try to perform automatic subscription to weekly paid services (the usual "free weekly html5 games, only 5$/week bloat) , but luckly the victim had those services already disabled at mobile network operator level
11:27
@JourneymanGeek did God invent the blood?
@Derpy ads in mobile games were always bad for the user, and they just become more aggressive as the developers become more desperate for money. Nothing to report, it's totally by design.

@JourneymanGeek you reckon the diamond precludes you from answering?

Must have fat pawed it
@Magisch To be fair, there are games that does not have ads despite being free (the developer only gets money from in-game purchases or indirect-brand advertising - think the pokemon mobile games that basically are advertisement for the console ones)
@JourneymanGeek Thought so ;)
> New contributor
I spy a lie
11:59
@Bookends oh, back then, someone didn't have the diamond yet
@JourneymanGeek Out of curiosity, on this post, why did you post it through your alternate account, have it delete its own post, and then reverse the deletion through your main account?

12:02
@JourneymanGeek Ha, now your answer appears to be from a "new contributor".
Technically true
Perhaps you should delete and repost it through your main account
not posting it on the main account was deliberate afaik
Ah, didn't read the back messages.
12:03
That helps ;p
@Bookends Not quite a dupe; the OP there is making the claim that all comments directed toward them are bad, while this one isn't
Besides it's nearly impossible to post as aibobot accidentally ( other than that one time)
Plus I answered it under the opposite assumption, so the answers there won't really help this author
@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog tldr - I didn't want my answer misconstrued as official
And in this specific case I wanted to have some extra tact
@JourneymanGeek By the way, have you heard of several incidents on U.S. airlines where people attempted to pass off pets as "emotional support animals"?
12:05
Yup
Peacocks
And that's what I was referring to
Also the use of the S word was slightly intentional. I have nothing good to say about anxiety ;p
I'd like something stronger than what you edited in but less sweaty than what I wrote ._.
@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog agree, one is a rant, the one posted today (took me time to realize that's what you all talk about) is much less of a rant.
@JourneymanGeek IMO that "s" word is fine and not offensive in any way. considered rolling back the edit, but decided to not intervene.
@ShadowWizard Considering the recent...incidents...best to be on the safe side.
At least the words are coming from a "new contributor" rather than a "moderator", but still, anyone can figure out easily that it was posted through an alternate account (and raise controversy "this moderator posted through an alternate account to evade blah blah...")
to evade what?
@Magisch The Code of Conduct
The false appearance of officiality? JG's posting from an alternate account was mostly a courtesy extended to those that don't fully know that moderators on MSE no longer == employees
12:16
@Magisch And new users are often unaware of the exact opposite.
> Examples of people not being very nice include people who blatantly do not read your question and say it's a duplicate of a question that is unrelated (in fact the possible duplicate does even use the words mental or health!
@Magisch precisely
@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog not sure what I'm evading other than a little bit of responsibility
In this specific case, I didn't want my post as being seen as official
@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog CoC doesn't say anything about using "strong" words to describe feelings. "shitty experience" isn't offending anyone.
It's literally 2 clicks to work out aibobot is my sock
@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog let's say I did something suspension worthy with aibo...
I'll have a short awkward talk with the CMs. Then quit as a mod. Apologising to everyone involved
So confused over how using a sock to post evades the COC
@JourneymanGeek Not exactly saying that merely using an expletive is suspension-worthy.
I'd have posted it as my own account too
12:24
@JourneymanGeek Not asserting that it is; I'm saying that some new user may come by and make that (mistaken) claim
Anxiety is shitty and terrible
So we deal with that.
And we're all aware that SE tends to react on mistaken claims if it results in bad publicity.
btw, your friend has returned @JourneymanGeek
12:24

12:34
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ take two
I think the best outcome for this question is to escalate this for a CM to answer with the exact details of what is going on, so that we all know.
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ that would be Vendibilis Equinos
A person's amount of rep does not prevent a ban. There are cases of users with more than 1.000.000 rep getting suspended. — S.L. Barth 24 secs ago
Jon Skeet got suspended?
@Derpy you expect SE to put some AI image detector that will block avatars if they are NSFW?
@ShadowWizard Wouldn't be hard to implement a NN
12:37
@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog what about false positives?
@ShadowWizard would be fine with a "Flag this avatar as inappropriate, offensive or NSFW" button
@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog One of those dots was in a European spirit, and the other in an American
Even with rate of 1% fp, it means thousands of people confused and angry due to totally legit avatar blocked.
@Derpy Not a good idea
@ShadowWizard Not blocking avatars; flagging them for mod attention
12:38
So better let mods handle it by flags, and all is good.
@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog auto flags? Yet again, it will mean extra load on the mods.
I HATE ADMINS AND I FLAG THERE PICS. THERE. HAHA. I FEELS GOOD ABOUT MYSEFL
@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog hopefully not because by all accounts he is a genuinely nice guy
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ totally a good idea, same workflow like now, but at least one wouldn't need to use autoflag to report those. Also....
Letting users flag avatars will mean thousands of pointless flags every day, no doubt.
12:39
> I HATE ADMINS AND I FLAG THERE COMMENTS. THERE. HAHA. I FEELS GOOD ABOUT MYSEFL
^ same. exact. thing
@JourneymanGeek change butt cause to be cause
@ShadowWizard So you mean to tell me, extra load on the mods on having to take care of offensive avatars? I'd much rather they take on that load.
@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog no, I prefer them to use their time on moderating the site.
Removing profiles of users without any post is really low priority.
@ShadowWizard I think taking care of offensive avatars very much constitutes "moderating the site".
@Derpy No not really unless said admin does comment. They don't go hunting for comments but it makes much more sense to them to hunt users
12:41
Yes they might be spammy or have bad avatars, but so what? Who see it?
@ShadowWizard Their avatars are visible if they, say, suggest edits
Auto-flag on offensive avatars decided on what basis?
@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog in such case sure, mod should take action.
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ image detection
@ShadowWizard notice that I didn't flag this one?
@ShadowWizard Maybe only run the algorithm on activity?
12:42
Same as tumblr used to mass block millions of accounts/posts.
@ShadowWizard very badly
Hmm, it's no easy peasy task dev-side though, is it?
@JourneymanGeek no idea.... you have info on that? :)
I'd rather have that time spent on things with bigger impact
@ShadowWizard just people being irate
12:43
... that was my way to tell you "if you are fine with it being there since it is so well hidden that no one - not even the 13 years old users of the site - will ever notice it... be fine! Keep it!"
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ not really, it's hard to distinguish hand from... something else... when in certain angles, for example. And tons more examples for possible false positives.
@JourneymanGeek Well...if you take the dot as a decimal point then the statement is true...
Sure, the worst of the trolls do enjoy nonblocked/flagged avatars but they're quantitatively low
after all... who would ever think to browse the users list? It is not like users would look at other users hats or rep ranking...
@ShadowWizard Yes, that was actually exactly what I was thinking. A hand might look like an elephant trunk.
12:44
@Derpy They could
@SonictheIntrovertedHedgehog yeah, makes more sense. Feel free to write the algorithm, and put it in a feature request. :)
@Derpy I doubt NSFW avatar owner will wear hats. Or gain rep.
@Derpy we need to distinguish between "bad avatars should be dealt with" and "there should be an inaccurate systematic way of detecting them". I don't think @Sha disagrees with the first
Well I don't
Their profiles can only be found by going to specific tab in users page.
against gut feeling I did end up writing an answer to that post
@ShadowWizard how could I forget.....
12:46
@Magisch And now it's giving you a stomachache?
Some posts do that
missed the query string parameter, sorry....
@Derpy this one is offensive for cows!
1 1
:D
@ShadowWizard udderly
heh, looks like @Derpy is correct though, same avatar is used.
Some famous singer, it appears, just without all her clothes. o_O
12:50
.... I just nuked it
considering that user used the same picture twice already...
They'll use it again.
Yup and I think we're happy to make them go away if we're informed
Running nose is annoying 🙁
@Derpy regarding 13 y/o users seeing those, believe me..... they see much worse things on other sites, I can bet on this. SE is one of the most safe sites in that regard, and the ability to flag and have such bad profiles nuked in matter of minutes or even hours is something most sites will never suggest.
So, this isn't valid argument in favor of some auto detection. :)
12:56
When a Meta post asked for adult-only participants? (There's one)
(not on MSE though)
@Bookends Ugh . . . and after the skin is chafing and it hurts when you want to clean it . . .
@Bookends invalid. Flag and nuke.
Involve a CM if needed.
@ShadowWizard since you seem to be interested in a full argument... Ok, we will do that.
There are two issues here - profiles and avatars. For avatars, a way to report them without having to flag YOUR messages would be fine.
I wonder if CM/staffs have to read all network-wide Meta posts...
Especially since I suspect that having to many custom flag on a single message could trigger on some automated mod alert (as does having to many edits)
12:59
Nope
as for the profiles... the dog already explained many times why having them indexed isn't a nice thing...
Very funny when stack comes up as a result for "car insurance" on Google
