8:00 PM
@KevinB I didn't have a specific tag in mind
My general impression, however, was they were all tags with fewer than 20 questions and who haven't been applied to questions in quite a while
Not to mention they were so vague so they were being inconsistently applied as well
Yeah but if there's like a rule somewhere that those also have to be discussed, I'd personally like people to follow that rule. Rules rule!
I don't really have an issue with small, useless tags being nuked after a chat discussion. Anything with more than 20 questions with the tag being properly used probably needs a post, though...
And discussing this probably shouldn't happen in chat either :P
@Mithrandir amen
It is rather ironic. ;)
8:04 PM
@Tinkeringbell !!/blame
!!/blame me
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ It's ThiefMaster's fault.
Hah. there's no-one to blame!
!!/blame᠎ ‌‌⁣᠎᠎‌‍
@Mithrandir It's M.A.R. ಠ_ಠ's fault.
Happy @M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ?
8:04 PM
@SmokeDetector shut
@Mithrandir Only slightly
Should we have Smokey blame you again to cheer you up?
!!/blame᠎ ‌‌⁣᠎᠎‌‍
@Mithrandir It's M.A.R. ಠ_ಠ's fault.
I don't see a causation
Right, it's invisible
8:06 PM
SHHHHH NO IT'S MAGIC
Questionable, unscientific methods
!!/blame᠎ ‍᠎᠎᠎
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog It's Tinkeringbell's fault.
(sorry, stepped away) my issue with that is there's no discussion of it. No chance for someone to disagree, if anyone can just freely go out there and burninate a new tag that hasn't been used often because they feel it is unnecessary. That's a lot of power in 1 person without any checks, doing something that isn't easily undone. Unnecessary tags isn't a problem that warrants swift action, it's usually not a real problem, just a minor annoyance.
4
There's no reason we can't just go through the same process as any other burnination with them.
Personally i'm more annoyed by the front page being filled with interesting posts that end up being years old than i am with an irrelevant tag on said old post
it's simply not usually worth the effort to discuss; of course, if someone is removing useful tags, that's a different problem
8:18 PM
I'm not a fan of tags being removed and leaving only the one required meta tag. It's the equivalent of being untagged.
@KevinB 1) The unnecessary part maybe got too much of an emphasis. The tags were vague or meta or SOME form of bad, other than not having been used for months, and 2) Well yeah, I guess the pace could use some adjusting. Front page floods are never fun
As an example, was recently cleared out, but because there's no discussion on it, who knows what it was replaced with so we can look back at those questions to see whether or not it was warranted
But the alternative I see isn't fun either: Normal meta regs get bored of tag discussions about an unimportant tag way too easily to even get the third burnination done.
You can all discuss this now on MSE as there is an answer now
I feel lazy now
But I upboated your answer
8:31 PM
can we just make retagging and superficial edits not result in a bump to the front page
Not really, no. We need some way for people to be able to see what's going on without expending too much effort, otherwise we're opening ourselves up to a lot of abuse.
Relevant chat discussion because it's too late at night for me to repeat it here. — M.A.R. ಠ_ಠ 34 secs ago
I suggest we make the extra badass comments under the post
@KevinB I'm pretty sure there is an FR for that
@KevinB Not until we come up with a solution that doesn't make them completely invisible.
I may bloody hope this answer gives me hat. If not this year, then at WB 2019
8:35 PM
I really see two issues pointed out: Lack of visibility, and the fast pace of retags
I disagree with the first one being an issue, esp. considering the alternative, but agree with the second one
I think you need to point that out in your answer @rene
The two points will get conflated and end up ruining the discussion, making it run in loops like Doctor Strange
"Servy, I've come to bargain"
Aaaaand let's call it a night
Good night all
Hello people!
8:43 PM
Hi David!
Back
Sleep hasn't got the best of me
There's no longer a "block-users" tag to point users who are looking to block other users to. This is a case where two burninations occurred that affected not only the question most likely to come up in a search for blocking users, but also the dupe target when "ignore" was burninated. meta.stackexchange.com/questions/268882/let-us-block-users I don't think that's helpful. Now we're essentially left with an untagged feature request. — Kevin B 8 mins ago
lol it's 12:45 p.m. here
OK, couple of invalid edits, provided they're invalid, does not a bad retagging make
I'm not sure it would have been prevented with a meta post with a score of 3
Aaaand sleep again
Phase 2
@Davidthethird Huh, pretty close. India?
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ That's generally not how the phases of sleep work, but good night!
My sleep phases are unlike other people
They sleepwalk, I sleeptalk
8:47 PM
probably because you're a volatile chemical compound, not a human
Or Russia.
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ hmm... I didn't put Australia as my location
It should be USA
Oh wait, 12:45 PEE EM
So yeah, USA
11:30 minutes away
8:48 PM
what time is it in your timezone?
If you could move a couple of extra centimeters it'd have been a perfect 12 hours. That's definitely how timezones work.
@Davidthethird 00:20
Oh geez, how in the world do you stay up so late?!?!
Teenager stuff man.
Our sleep cycles work a bit differently
Proven by sciencez
One of these days we'll have to get someone from every timezone posting at the same time.
8:50 PM
I'm a teen too, but I definitely don't stay up that late...
No really. They say waking up at 7:00 a.m. for me is like 5 a.m. for you
That is assuming you're not a teenager
@Davidthethird I sleep at 1:00, wake up at 8:30
I sleep at 10:00 and wake up at 5:30
No school, no strings attached. I just have a big ass exam in 191 days
@Davidthethird ROBOTIC
8:52 PM
R O B O T I C
Back in Austin I used to have a wonky sleep schedule; I'd just go to sleep and awaken as needed.
I had a hard time convincing people I'm based in the U.S.
I do that on saturdays
usually
I'm more robotic then
And that also probably means you don't enjoy sleeping at 10:00.
define "teenager"
It depends on the day and how much sugar I've eaten...
8:56 PM
@Mithrandir You.
@Mithrandir Not Mithrandir
...that was more asking @Davidthethird how old they are
Sugar, yuck.
I consider a teen 14-17
That's very um, narrow-minded . . . scoped
I'm 20 in 7 days
8:57 PM
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ DID YOU JUST SAY YOU DON"T LIKE SUGAR?!?!?!?!?!
...what happened to 13, 18, and 19?
13 is a preteen, 18 and 19 are adults
Say "13" out loud...
Oh shit, I'm an adult O.O
@Mith go clean your room young man
8:58 PM
@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ Happy early birthday! (I turn 21 in a matter of months)
I feel so young now :D
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog \o/
*rolls eyes at @M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ* Sleep, chemical compound
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog Months . . . well everyone gets a year older in a matter of months
@David usually that's how I feel
8:59 PM
@Mithrandir stop caffeinating me
Wow, some of you are younger than I expected.
I'm not younger than I expected
I would hope so.
I have white hair.
I have blondish hair
9:01 PM
I have blue hair, apparently.
adjusts hearing aid WHAT?!
Well, 1 percent white. Should see my uncle
Andy probably is the oldest one around now.... ;)
Well, actually I have a haircut that looks like a giant red circle surrounding black hair
@Mithrandir I still haven't figured out what you're staring at so eagerly
9:02 PM
the wrenches
Hope it's not my cyclohexane twist
I don't have hair, I have fur.
@Mithrandir Yeah right, I'm older than you
@Mithrandir The wrenches are not in your line of sight. Or are you looking in a mirror?
I feel like I'm the youngest here
9:03 PM
Which is a more advanced version of "I wasn't born yesterday"
I fail to comprehend the relevance of that tidbit of information in this contect, @M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ - care to elaborate?
@David - well, how old are you?
@Davidthethird Thirds are always looked down on
So yeah, you're the youngest here at the moment, by a couple years.
Teen . . . by a stretch
9:04 PM
Yep.
At least of those whose ages are known.
Let's see how you would feel waking up at 5:30 when you're 17, Mr. Teen
the horror^
Did you just call me Mr. Teen? I prefer to be known as Mr. Hashtag.
9:06 PM
It's funny though, not a single day has gone by after the operation that I haven't woken up once around 6
...this has actually made me tired.
BRB reading a couple of pages
That's not a sign of youth.
Not that that's difficult, seeing as it's 11PM and I was up half the night with a stomachache
@Mithrandir This is my preferred method of hypnosis
9:07 PM
uh-oh
I have to leave now, bye older people!
just gotta get right out of here
seeya @dav
that was quick
yeah my mom just made me get lunch
9:10 PM
Is she reading the chat?
@Catija If only people would come up with suggestions
@rene I understand that now, too. E. g., it would have been best to write two new MSE questions - one about and one about (do we need them?). Then move on from there, like one about merging them, another two about burninating each one of them, and so on.
9:29 PM
@AnneDaunted it is just forum, forums, block-user and ignore what you have burned, right?
Anything I missed in that list?
@rene Yes, we burninated these 4 (to be precise: 3, since forum had been merged into forums).
thanks
9:45 PM
Oh my goodness, has been burninated, too.
Yeah, it is a mess
The best part is still that none of the users that now either asked, answered or commented are going to do any re-tagging.
2
there are no winners here
But now everyone misses . heck, I'm starting to miss it myself, too.
true that

can't believe y'all burned a chicken :(
this is supposed to be a Tavern, not some sort of voodoo lounge...
You can't eat chicken raw, or so I'm told
well... you can
Only once?
@rene You can in Minecraft
and it only makes you sick half the time
10:22 PM
@Shog9 Why make the Community user edit it back, rather than yourself?
@Shog9 blame @Glorfindel
@SonictheInclusiveHedgehog faster
I'm very much not willing to spend a lot of time on this
so I figured the two alternatives were:
1. pick reasonable-looking tags and restore reasonable-looking questions in them, or
2. make the folks who removed them do #1
if you wanna argue for #2, go for it
Never, ever, ever, do an image search for Ernie.
The muppet?
Yeah.
Just... why. Why.
Because we couldn't before the Internet?
When I was planning my wedding, I discovered that searching for Mexican bowtie was also a bad idea.
10:52 PM
So you dropped the Mexican style and went classical?
@Mithrandir Because Burt is evil, of course.
@rene Bought one on Etsy, where the creepy meaning doesn't come up in search.
safe bet ...
That said, it wasn't a Mexican print... but it was orange, which fit the marigolds we were using for flowers.
Nice!
I like the flowers ... and the orange ;)
@rene that worked out nicely, you have three extra now ...
