3:07 PM
@ShadowWizard I've had a vegetarian girlfriend, so, yet, I can cook awesome vegetarian food (vegan i'm a bit less creative) but I prefer meat myself... cc @Tinkeringbell
Actually I've eaten all kinds of meat there is to eat except dog and elephant...

@JourneymanGeek Heh.. we have one, so if any work is happening, the entire house is without water for a while
@Fabby frog? Does grasshopper count?

(Yes, that includes insects, which I don't like, except honey ants: they're actually yummy...)
@Tinkeringbell Had both; Frog 2 months ago?

@Fabby I've never had an insect on purpose

:D :D :D
You mean: you've had insect while talking and riding a bike...
Thinking about that last remark: Some people might misinterpret that!
>:-) ;-)

@Fabby :( Now I didn't get to see it XD
And yes. The most common cause of death over here is suffocating on a bug while riding a bike with your mouth open :P

3:13 PM
@Tinkeringbell oh that's a pain
I install them under taps

@JourneymanGeek Meh, we manage ;)
Not that much work that takes more than an hour ;)

@Tinkeringbell I can't turn off the main one.
My dad has a knack
I do the rest of the work tho

> The question isn't "if" the question is "How can we make SO into a place that normal humans actually enjoy using?" -- comment
this is going south quickly

Cool. Now we only need to find normal humans.

@NormalHuman
unpingable :(

3:24 PM
;) Depending on the group of people you get together, they'll work out a different meaning of what's normal and correct and what's taboo ;)

well, back to doing more productive things like reading about Android Studio's new features...

(Or kill each other. But let's be positive here)

oh right, tomorrow is still Friday! I have been feeling like tomorrow's Saturday...

Nope, still another day of work to go
A lazy day it'll be though :)

3:47 PM
spent a third of a month's rent on pastry for the office tomorrow
I hope they at least appreciate it
stupid birthday traditions

@Magisch my birthday most often just collides with my summer holidays.
But yeah, it can get expensive real soon and I don't understand it either ;)

What do you call these in english?

Except that I like it when someone else brings cake, so I usually just reciprocate
@Magisch snacks

I bought 96 of the big ones for the office

Or food?

3:50 PM
with different fillings

Tiramisu Donuts, according to Google Reverse Image Search
wait, seems wrong...
A Berliner Pfannkuchen (referred to as Berliner for short) is a traditional German pastry similar to a doughnut with no central hole, made from sweet yeast dough fried in fat or oil, with a marmalade or jam filling and usually icing, powdered sugar or conventional sugar on top. They are sometimes made with chocolate, champagne, custard, mocha, or advocaat filling, or with no filling at all. == Preparation == The yeast dough contains a good deal of eggs, milk and butter. For the classical Pfannkuchen made in Berlin the dough gets baled, deep-fried in lard, whereby the distinctive bright bulge occurs...

Just Berliners, I guess

12 boxes of 8
makes 4 for every break room

@Somewhat the "Names" section is also quite interesting, but no English name though

the only challenge will be to transport 5kg of straight pastry with a bicycle

3:52 PM
@Magisch Do you have bicycle bags?

yes

Should be doable then I guess.. bring a big sporting bag as well if you have one

I have 2 big sporting bags I plan to transport the boxes in

You can put those on the back rack

one for each handle
I have to move the pastry a total of 2.5km

3:54 PM
@Magisch ohh. You could even do that walking and just use the bike so you don't have to carry

ya

So is your birthday today, or tomorrow?

was on 30th september
I'm a bit late

That's a nice while ago :)

Happy birthday!!!

3:55 PM
A belated congratulations anyways!

nobody ever forgets the cake debt though

@Magisch Hehehe I guess they don't ;)

I don't even eat pastry anymore but still
I technically cheaped out since there's 250 employees and I only bought 100 pastries
but I doubt everyone wants one

well 96 pastries

3:57 PM
And you have to bring for all 250? I mean, there's a lot of co-workers over here too, but you generally just bring for the team of twenty something people you work with

no it is very much expected to bring for everyone

That's a nasty rule XD

I asked a TWP question about this back when I was an apprentice because I had to save up for it usually because it's expensive AF to feed 250 people even with just snacks
Not all 250 have to, just people in the office, not the warehouse guys and the lab guys
The rationale is that the office workers earn more and it's a courtesy

True, but this seems to be getting a bit out of hand!

nowadays it's meh

3:59 PM
If there's 250 people and everyone does that, there's snacks every day of the week!

it's like 130 bucks or so, definitely not cheap but also not backbreaking
I just said it's only office workers
so people who have to bring are only around 90

Still. That's twice a week
That's still a lot

sounds about right
I dont eat cake or pastries though

I usually prefer candy or chocolate over cake or pastries ;)

some people bring candy
some people bring cakes
we had one of the managing directors who brought in a slice of expensive AF cake for everyone
this like the slice of cake they sell at the bakery for 3.50€

4:06 PM
@Magisch That's called being a showoff :P

ya pretty much

There's some really fun anthropologic stuff on reciprocity
Where tribal communities strive to outdo each other year after year in giving feasts

I always try to get away with doing something without going broke. Last year I pre-made waffle batter and brought garnishes (whipped cream, chocolate syrup and cherries) and let people make waffles for themselves
was cheaper over all

Sounds way more fun too!

next year I think i'll destroy any goodwill by bringing bread and healthy dips like herb yogurt and cheese curds

1 hour later…
5:17 PM
@Magisch You should just do it. Make people aware of how you can never eat anything XD

I can, nothing's stopping me. I just don't like cake and pastries

I'm thinking of mixing all possible food allergies into 1 recipe...
and also food restriction, like vegetarian, etc...

@Somewhat And then making pills and selling them online?

5:32 PM
I don't even know if it could make an edible food or not...

@Somewhat That's why I'm suggesting pills ;)
You can swallow those whole without tasting them :P
Even better, you can just take the stuff that's in peanuts that people are allergic too, instead of the whole peanut :)

considering you can have allergic reactions to pretty much every different type of protein, good luck
even combinations of proteins and non protein things that cause your body to produce proteins that you're allergic to.

I know... and then there's the weird stuff of being able to tolerate small amount but problems if there's more.
Tell me about it, I know...

sometimes there's even "overflow toxcitiy" a phenomenon where your body processes up to X concentration of something in Y way, but any overflow in Z way, where Z way may be toxic to you. An example of this is paracetamol (acetaminophen). In recommended doses your liver just deals with it with a particular pathway, but if there's more, it becomes hepatotoxic(?) really quickly.

5:53 PM
@Magisch I was thinking water does that too :)

funnily enough, this comment compelled me to downvote and vote to close

he even linked to the CoC for justification
