So I just had to escape them all.

"Underscore" means "asterisk" (huh!?)

@Somewhat nope

Hi :)

Hi, currently I don't see a certain loud dog here...

Wasn't the dog on night shifts? :P

@Tinkeringbell he should be able to chat here even while asleep! :D

@ShadowWizard Trust me... sleepchatting is never a good idea. It's about as dangerous as sleepwalking :P

Woof

Additional SEEN: ptSO is having an election and now on primary phase.

@JourneymanGeek Did it arrive? :)

(missed due to the tags not having [election]...)
also, 0 score on most candidates..?

@Tinkeringbell yup

@Mithrandir David?

8:04 AM
Clearly the windowsill is well engineered

@Somewhat *shrugs*

Ya looks like him

(pic originally from Jaydles's Twitter)

@Somewhat @JourneymanGeek yeah, that's David

@balpha I remember him from the SE app ad ;p

8:12 AM
that photo is ancient :)

oh, balpha is online.
mind two questions?

was that the first one?
2
;p

is a group photo of the staff available anywhere?

We've done a couple (although it's been a while since the last big meetup), but I don't think we've ever shared one publicly (not everyone wants their photo shared)

8:21 AM
@balpha any public image of a company photo shoot, even if not anyone is present?

Not of a huge group I don't think. I don't recall ever doing a "and now only the people who are comfortable with sharing" version of a group shot.
You'll have to stitch together some of these :)

ok thanks
on an unrelated notice, any way to "shorten" an answer text so that you can expand it on demand?
I am planning something, but I don't want to eat up too much vertical space

no, with the exception of code snippets on SO

@Derpy there's a few members of staff whose identity is a mystery and I like it that way :p

8:42 AM
ok... plan B then.

@JourneymanGeek There's some mods who are secretly dogs on the internet too ;p

this will be VERY lame... but let's see how it will turn out.

wow, that's so cool...

@Henders Oh, you do know the whole joke with Gracenote right?

@JourneymanGeek Nope? I always just think of a musical grace note when I read their name :P

8:49 AM
Robert Cartaino on August 10, 2011

You might know Chris better as “Grace Note,” the moderator extraordinaire on our Gaming Stack Exchange.

I appointed Chris to a pro tem moderator position nearly a year ago. I wasn’t an avid user of Gaming SE, but I was continually amazed how often Chris’s name kept popping up in our moderator chat room. Chris was quickly becoming The Person to quote when you needed a clear, compelling explanation of how this community-management stuff should work. Even in our meta community, Chris was earning a ridiculous amount of rep in a short period of time. You should read some of his posts because it’s really good stuff. …

Note the pronouns ;)

@JourneymanGeek Oh that's taking some getting used to...

Interesting, I should really go and read all the valued associate posts at some point...

@Henders kinda worth a read. Also don't forget the CHAOS one - IIRC abby's one of the (last?) remaining members of that team.

@Henders they stopped at some point few years ago, since then new developers got no blog post.
They even removed the page listing SE employees at some point.

9:01 AM
@ShadowWizard they hadn't hired anyone new for the CM role in ages + they kinda feel meta is better for that now.

@JourneymanGeek they did hire developers and data researchers though, no?

Does anyone else ever write really long meta posts on their sites meta, and use ------ to create those lines to separate bits? They seem a little borked on IPS.

I think Julia and... the other guy did get a blog post?

Really?? hmm....

Devs. oddly enough, never seemed to, but SE's probably got a bunch everywhere

9:03 AM
recalculating view towards SE
:D
@Tinkeringbell screenshot plz

Iiiii guess not
@ShadowWizard well, the folks at say jobs are less visible
SE is odd in the sense that the PR/marketing folks are mostly invisible, and the pointy end/back end folks are not.

@ShadowWizard Working on that... But of course now it won't fail.
I shouldn't have closed the tab.

I just noticed bleep in chat, something with DNS, maybe it was SE-wide bleep affecting other things?

I didn't see any bleep

(message I posted failed with unknown error, reloading the tab gave DNS error)

9:05 AM
odd

It lasted few seconds only, after another reload all was fine.
So maybe @Tink loaded a page exactly when it was bleeping, and JS/CSS resources didn't load properly.

A certain Normal Human still monitors the SE employees list though

No Normal Human here though... :(

@ShadowWizard I don't know. I can still see it failing in the preview of the post I'm writing currently, but it doesn't fail anymore in the one I just posted :/

9:07 AM
hmm...
See? Here's your answer ^

@ShadowWizard There's supposed to be a line there :/

link to meta post plz :(

Maybe its color is too bright so it's almost not visible?

I like using horizontal lines when writing posts, so I should have encountered that before

@Somewhat I'm still writing that one, that's the preview

9:10 AM
okie

But it's now failing here too:
And I have a link for that one: interpersonal.meta.stackexchange.com/a/3309/1599

@Tinkeringbell actually more dangerous, worst that can happen when sleep walking is bumping into a wall, when sleep chatting, it's easy to get yourself into a long chat ban.... :D

Sorry to (dis?)appoint you, but I see
unless you're talking about the preview

@ShadowWizard Ehhh... I had a neighbourhood kid that used to sleepwalk (and parents didn't know yet). Slept with the balcony door open. Luckily all that was broken was a leg.
@Somewhat Nope, the screenshot I just sent is what I'm seeing on the posted post. It's also only 1 of the five lines that's missing. And I know it's inconsequent already, as it took me some time to reproduce too. That screenshot was taken just after I made an edit.

@Tinkeringbell ouch! How parents didn't know about it??

9:13 AM
@ShadowWizard First time sleepwalking maybe? Or just never realized :P
I don't know, it was a loooong way back, when we were both still kids and playing in the playground :P

Hmm... there should be nothing weird with horizontal lines. --- is rendered as <hr>, nothing weird, unless some random userscripts messing uo

@Tinkeringbell with 10k edits are inline, so the AJAX request loading the new contents has the issue, most likely. After you reload guess you see it fine?

@ShadowWizard reload? Or f5 the page... f5 on the page doesn't help.
(We use to call that refresh though. You want me to close and reopen the page?)

@Tinkeringbell oh. Weird. Next suspect: userscripts or browser plugins you installed.
@Tinkeringbell no no... most you can do is CTRL+F5 which is "hard refresh" that should clear client side caching as well.

or blocked CSS...

9:15 AM
@ShadowWizard Nope, same issue in incognito
No plugins there ;)

@Tinkeringbell think incognito still loading userscripts

@ShadowWizard only if it loads the userscript plugin though

@ShadowWizard Okay, I'll try disabling everything...

Check Developer Console (F12?) for error?

yes! Disable all dem tingz!
:P

9:17 AM
@Somewhat Ehhh... I'm not that familiar with that thing. I only know how to use it to cheat on cookie clicker.
Where do I find the errors?

4
A: Give debug info in F12 Developer Console

SomewhatThis is already possible on the Developer Console itself (at least tested on Chrome). In addition to the beloved "Console", there's also a "Network" tab that displays most (if not all) the requests and their HTTP status (even for AJAX calls).

@ShadowWizard I disabled every extension I could find under extensions, and then refreshed the page. Still no line!

What browser?

IE6

9:19 AM
@ShadowWizard Chrome... don't know the version on the top of my head :(

hmm... weird.

@Somewhat Nope, no red messages there either..

mumble..... do anyone mind if I use an alternate account to star a message in a room I own?
cons: it's is a sort of double account "abuse"
pro: I could just pin it, but I don't want it to be displayed before other starred messages, so this is more natural.

You can pin-unpin.

pro: I won't gain nothing from stars, so it seems a "no victim crime"
@Mithrandir ^read above, pinned messages have precendence on unpinned ones.
I just need stars for sorting purposes.
but thinking about it...
I can just ask here. Or in Shadow Den.

9:34 AM
@SonictheInclusiveWerehog - People who solve this puzzle and ping me in my chat office might receive another puzzle to solve, until someone might get a bounty here, or Scifi.SE, or Literature.SE, or Puzzling.SE. No promises, though, because making cheese puzzles is hard work :P — Mithrandir 2 mins ago
...figured I might as well, since I created the puzzle.

10:12 AM
@Mithrandir awesome!

@ShadowWizard Want to join? I think the guys in the Den could come up with some lame cheesy pictures too.

I'm going cheese it
and cut the cheese means...

11:03 AM
maybe posting just just this image would have been a better idea....

11:15 AM
@Derpy True! It's first of all just a piece, not a whole fromage :P

@Tinkeringbell ok, wish granted. You're next.

@Derpy nah, way over my time limit... :/

@Tinkeringbell done. I suggest you make it Interpersonal site new mascot.

I did notify some people in Den though. ;)

@Derpy :D

11:25 AM
@Somewhat why won't you cut to the chase already and cut the cheese then? :D
Stop talking start cutting!
@Derpy while I don't mind, it's not something I'll do myself. It just feels wrong.
Maybe one day there will be a badge for stars? Who knows...

@ShadowWizard don't worry, I just discovered that if I pin the message and then unpin it it keeps the star but loses the "show before other messages" status and that is enough for my purpose so no need for multi accounts

e.g. if SE will decide to boost the chat for some reason, badges for stars would be the most likely and simple thing to add.
@Derpy of course, I knew it for... long time, ever since pinning and unpinning just for science. :)
Also...

Q: Chatroom owners can star their own messages

Kyle TraubermanI was able to star my own message by pinning it and unpinning it. Pinning a message adds a star, even to your own messages, but when the pin is removed, the star remains.

+1 @Bart for admitting that chat room owners are awesome :D — Infinite Recursion Jan 29 '15 at 19:19

@ShadowWizard true that

Maybe we can lure her with some cheese?

Do ducks like cheese?

11:38 AM
@ShadowWizard that one I knew about, the star your own message effect I didn't notice before today

:D

11:52 AM
@ShadowWizard There already are

When 10 different people will star one message, right ?

that was an Hat, not a badge.

oh, right they turned it into an actual badge aferwards

11:57 AM
Yeah this one
I got one on SO
I can see my name there on MSE as well Yay \o/

12:24 PM
@Mithrandir oh right! Forgot about it...

lol
@Tinkeringbell And The Holy Cheese

:D
That's why I posted it. It's one of the backgrounds I have on rotation on my PC, and it seemed oddly appropriate now ;)

What's the source of those backgrounds?

Her monitor

12:31 PM
@Bart What's the source of your wisdom?

It comes to me naturally.

Natural source, like spring water? Nice!

12:43 PM
Spring water is a scam. It's just ordinary tap water minus the tap.

Summer water then

@JohnDvorak so where do the tap water coming from?

Mostly just recycled sewage, IIUC
just like what your body naturally does

@JohnDvorak funny thing, we're just having similar conversation in Den. Kind of. lol
(about something the body naturally does ;))
(and no, not something flag worthy so get your fingers away from the button ;))
Well, I guess recycled urine can taste like water. Remind me to try one day. :D
