I find it highly confusing if you mark my flag as helpful but don't do what I ask for. I can handle a declined flag if you find it meh, don't worry about my feelings.
@rene Let's see. Even if the picture wasn't plainly uncouth, do you really need a mocking answer that suggest that the OP should "put a bag on his head" if he doesn't want to see the list?
so, "This is becoming a waste of my time and you won’t listen to my advice. What are the supposed benefits of making it so much more complex?” is ultra unwelcoming, telling someone to put a bag on his head (only.... worse) so he wont't see isn't?
seems quite evident it HAS to go to the trash can.
I don't want to be told to put a bag over my head. I'm quite capable of deciding when to put on my bag without assistance. I usually wear the bag from Saturday lunchtime until Monday morning. It's uncomfortable in the hot weather, but it stops me getting suspended.
@SomewhatMemorableName you "censor" it, he gets no downside. Next time, he will do that again. You need to remove that AND have someone tell him that the thing won't be tolerated again.
And "censoring".... the answer is just rude in the first place. The "boys be boys" attitude (look! I am grown up! I post adult stuff and adult jokes) is only the frosting of the problem.
Wasn't there just a big thing in the new CoC about how off topic sexual content (especially directed at another user, which this is, it's directed at the OP) is not ok?
The reply basically said "wear a pair of black glasses so you don't see it". This alone is rude and not very "welcoming" (since that word comes up a lot lately). The fact the joke didn't just say "black glasses/paper bag) but had to add an "adult" reference (again, "look at me I can link adult stuff" attitude) only adds to the existing issue.
@Magisch As much as I like a good joke from time to time... I've noticed that it's a lot easier to appreciate a joke over the internet if you're not on the receiving end of it.
If you are, you get doubts, are they just joking? Is this good-natured? Or are they trying to belittle me? Is this laughing with me, or about me?
I kinda suspect for some of us, one of the big causes of... well cognitive dissonance with how things are now is, we still have a mental image of SE as
@JourneymanGeek I'm... sorry about that too, but I somehow still feel a dog acting like that shouldn't be walked... not even only at 5:30AM or after midnight or something...
First time I encountered the owners, the dog bit my umbrella and they were surprised that there was someone walking to the station at that time: 'Oh, we can usually walk him at this time, there's no-one around' :/
I'm not especially a dog person (my other is deathly allergic, so I try not to get near them often, and my father has dog phobia), but... dogs do have needs, such as a real walk/run.
Just... if this one ever manages to do so much as make a dent in me, I'm seriously considering filing something official... It's not against the dog, but it's also the owner's job to make sure they can control the dog
I cannot walk Bailey any distance ATM. It's too hot. Just going round the field behind us is too much, even with a drink from the cattle-trough at the far hedge.
Of course, here everyone lets their dogs just run loose and they form packs. A couple kids have been bitten. :/ Owners just don't know how to take care of a dog safely.
We do have a problem with Bailey and smaller children. He will knock them over, given half a chance, in his enthusiasm for play. Yeah - he doesn't understand, but we have to restrain him:(
About
Spoilers get used pretty heavily on Puzzling.SE, and people have taken to using rot13 in comments (and chat) since there's no official spoiler mark-up outside of questions/answers. That's annoying, but this script will make your life easier.

I didn't used to mind the odd ROT13 comment, but this:
Code Movie Wall (in answers - Community Wiki)
is getting ridiculous.
Can't these discussions be held in chat? Or just dealt with professionally somehow?

I think that the fact that a question as simple "We have a bug in our app, we need to check if the same bug is found in the code we had a week ago" can generate 5 different, contradicting answers on SO should tell enough
Clone the repo and do a checkout for the specific commit! No, don't do that, create an anonymous branch and then merge the specific commit on it! No, they are both crazy, you need to detach the head, do the hokey-pokey, insert the Konami code and then use git sellYourSoul!
Time the same thing would have required if we hadn't moved the repo to git just "because everyone uses it and they can't all be wrong" and kept the old TFS based one: 5 seconds?
Because... you know, you chose based on trends, not real benefits for your specific use case.
And whatever you do, don't dare to ever consider the possibility that switching to git would probably require git usage courses for your devs.
@Tinkeringbell simple: because no one want to "yep, you can try this command you found on stack but will be considered responsible of any damage it may cause"
Now switch your needs to "I need to cherrypick this changes, push them to the other branch, commit some code, merge only some files to the original etc"
oh, yes, I know, but you will probably agree that adding the complication of switching your team to arbitrary-differe-source-control-model on a project that was late-on-schedule even before starting it.... all when your team doesn't know the new source control framework.... isn't exactly desirable.
Especially if the only reason to do so you provide is "all the world uses git"
And if I'm sitting down in the break room and 6 people are talking about how much they hate Trump or whatever, what do I do? Do I participate and disagree? Or do I cut myself out of the conversation and sit there in silence, not getting to chit-chat with coworkers during a break? Or do I go somewhere else? That's the tension I'd want to avoid.
@rene so script injection via various malicious means is getting more common, and I was curious before I suggested getting more serious about CSP to block it
@ShadowWizard I might. I'm going to pack up the laptop and go home first. Wish me luck, so I don't have a three hour long commute like this morning? :D
