Cause, being helpful actually works sometimes ;)
except... the user doesn't have any rep to post on child-meta...
He could post a question with the other tags and use that to post on meta. But ugh, that's not exactly obvious
@SFTP no, it looks like pure advertisement.
People can advertise open source stuff too, it's still spam.
@ShadowWizard no more boyfriends
@rene good!
Now let's hope the boyfriend won't come and ask a counter-question... :D
@ShadowWizard Its not a great tag wiki
But I'd rather deal with the guy from the assumption he's lost and has slightly better intentions
(and IMO it worked?)
@ShadowWizard Kenny kept running as well, so while the backend switched to colorado the tcp/ip and http/websockets all were kept alive.
08:08
@JourneymanGeek nah, I doubt he'll bother to earn the required rep to post on MSO. He just wanted free advertisement for his project.
@ShadowWizard still a win?
user315433
@ShadowWizard I agree it looks like one, I'm just saying it isn't.
@rene oh, so who was logged out?
@SFTP if it looks like spam, flag it. That's my motto.
I don't waste tons of time looking into the reasons behind the spammy post.
@ShadowWizard dosen't MSO have the "you can always ask meta questions on your own posts?" rule?
"tons of time?"

maybe 30 seconds total
@JourneymanGeek oh, yup. So doubt he'll bother to spend time asking a real question. I'm sure all he want is that tag and its wiki.
08:10
no-one, I was just preparing everyone for the possible blib. I guess if you were just abouyt to join chat the moment they failed over you might have had a slight disconnect. I must say it went all rather smoothly so kudos to the team.
@ShadowWizard which feels vaguely pointless.
@JourneymanGeek not at all... free ad space... Google index rocking sky high, etc.
(also, since I have the ability to smite users on one site, I'm a little more cautious over my spam flags)
@ShadowWizard two words. Profile Spam.
;p
Much easier.
@JourneymanGeek well, mod spam flag just cause auto delete, without giving the -100
08:12
That he asked means there's someone made of meat on the other end, and we can reason with him
@ShadowWizard I think there's the -100
@rene kaboom (with -8 it went below my radar)
20K probably meta.stackexchange.com/q/308105/158100 /cc @sha @Bart @glor @TravisJ (needs one more)
@JourneymanGeek no, I've seen lots of spammy questions on MSE by 101 rep users, nuked by mod, no -100
Only 6 red flags will cause the -100
@JourneymanGeek nah it makes sense...
08:13
(also, most of the spam I nuke's off 1 rep users. When smokey dosen't get to them first)
Ability to remove 100 rep with one click is too much power, even for a mod.
@ShadowWizard there's other concequences...
Too much power? NO SUCH THING! MWAHAHAHA.
More seriously - the more power you have the harder it is to fix it up when you mess up
so its worth being careful, and have sanity checks
I often go "guys, this seems fishy?" or even ask folks whether what I'm doing or want to do is the right thing
Which is why I'm fond of the "welcome to foo.se.com - this is a site for bar. However this is off topic because baz" type comments
I'm its super tempting to just get out the pitchforks and vote/flag things to death ;)
If the owneruserid in the suggestededits table is null, does that indicate an edit from a non-registered user?
08:22
@JourneymanGeek that's the most efficient way though, being too nice might send wrong message. Or attract negative comments, ask @rene. ;)
@rene can be easily tested, no?
@ShadowWizard heh. "negative" or negative?
I'm a negativity attractor
Oh I get that

And it contains bugged JS.

any specific sites? no repro on SO
Doesn't show up in the network tab in firefox either
not seeing it on SU
MSE, SE, SO: nothing
Not blocked by Privacy Badger, doesn't show up in the network tab in the console. Could be just you @sha
@PrincessLuna doubt it, it's injected as part of advertisement placeholder, only inside question view.
not always showing, about 3 out of 5 times.
Maybe some ad got compromised.
(only on sites where we have low rep and where ads are enabled)
@JourneymanGeek check inside question, not in questions list, and refresh few times.
12:36
@ShadowWizard meta question time? ;p
(Since I don't think our lovely devs and CMs should be pinged on a sunday)
@JourneymanGeek hehe, might be... they should kick whatever ad is doing it, I guess.
halp! i couldn't get normal ad, only SO Jobs D: (even on incognito)
@HTTP yeah, those are fine, they have some external ad, probably gone rogue
The problem is, I couldn't even try to repro it since what I got were all about SO Jobs or Sales :/
At last, got some normal ads on old questions...
12:40
hmm...
all blocking plugins deactivated, I'm gonna see if I can find it
@ShadowWizard I can't even find the entire <ins> tag. No scripts are loaded in from the domain either
I gave up... I only got ads about redislabs and Intel AI Academy...
I used a different container (in firefox, meaning I'm not logged in). Got a ton of ads, multiple sites, nothing
well, will look more into it, hopefully it's not a virus on my side.... :/
well, since ads are semi-personalized (location? content?), it's probably not that simple for other to repro unless they are SO staffs...
12:49
No repro in chrome either
OK, it happens only when the ad placeholder is empty, as I reported here. Thought it's only on arqade so reported, but now noticed it's also on SU. When there is ad, all is good.
If it's on my side, it's some smart malware, as it's not always triggering.
@HTTP yeah, might be true... maybe it's even Google's fault. :/
Curiously, what kind of ads are usually shown on Arqade? I only got SO Jobs and Sales there...
13:22
I think most sites only have that
only really the big three have properish ads
so appears to be part of DoubleClick service

Also, I'm getting slightly annoyed at all the folks who are trying to claim they can delete content under EU laws without actual links to the laws in question
@JourneymanGeek not only that, I'm preparing a lawsuit against SE to make them pay the 20 million euro's fine for being not compliant ...
I kind of asploded on a certain Econ HNQ...
@JourneymanGeek would it work if we close such questions as Unclear or too broad?
@JourneymanGeek no need EU laws. Just file a fraudelent DMCA...
@rene tbh, I'm a bit steamed up after the one I answered so...
14:25
update on the malware: don't think it's on my side. Ran full scan, found other nasty stuff but not this one... looks like it's part of Google:
I'm not the best person to ask.
@JourneymanGeek he, okay, keep your cool man. We are here for you
Going to post on MSE with some details.
lol
(I'd go hell yes. CLOSE THEM ALL! LET SHOG SORT THEM OUT) - but maybe see what I think in a few days.
But I do think quoting the laws in question, and commenting politely asking for that feels like a good compromise
14:30
Hmm... how about, let's forget that EU exists?
;p
I think this one is a little more reasonable
@HTTP or merge with USA
migrate to USA? if only I had binding vote...
VTC Europe?
14:36
@JourneymanGeek's mod hammer is approved. European borders are now closed. :p
I don't really understand the downvotes on the "right to be forgotten" post. Seems a fair request for clarification/understanding. They're not saying "DELETE MY CONTENT RIGHT MEOW OR ELSE LAWYERS"
I'm too grumpy to downvote.
Voting on meta is different... or is it?
@HTTP yes
14:46
Sure, you can vote in disagreement ... but with what? Law is law. Explain it, state if you comply with it ... move on.
(btw I haven't voted on that question...)
@Bart its unclear what the law is + chilling effects.
Hence the question
Its like "ooh, new law, lets see what we can abuse it for"
@Bart no no
Like they could link what they saw. And sometimes they totally didn't read it.
(and SE's probably going to need to get someone to take a look?)
now, an omnibus post on how these laws will affect SE would be nice.
With specific reference to say the GDPR
not in the "I think the law lets me demand foo!"

Another question. New user's question got migrated to an SE site where he doesn't have an account. When the migrated question is answered, does the user get a notification about that in the inbox? I wonder if the user might be confused about where his question went.
For as far as I know, no, they will not be notified
Darn.
And he might be sitting comfortable, possibly even knowing he's checked "send me an email" or something, and never find the answer.
@b_jonas Yes
@Catija Oh good! Thanks.
@Bart Um yes, but I'm asking whether they're notified that the question has got an answer, already on the new site.
18:08
Read the comments on the answer.
Note, you also get notifications of comments/answers in your migrated posts as of (at least) early 2012. — Joe Dec 18 '13 at 22:12
The answer seems to address that
Ah, thank you.
@Bart No, the person who wrote the answer is talking about an answer, saying that they were notified that their answer was migrated.
Interesting, Adam has a deleted answer from November 2011 saying that you don't get notified and the answer there is from Jan 2012, so sometime between the two posts, it changed.
In this case, I answered after the migration. (I couldn't answer before, because the question was closed.)
18:32
Yeah each site "knows" if the user is logged in somewhere on SE so the inbox works even without an account.

Hi guys. The help page graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/help/on-topic links to meta.graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/a/682 , which is a redirect page with a https error, something like the certificate not signed for that page. Do I report that here?
@b_jonas better (or also) on the per site meta. That page is editable by a mod I think. If you tag it bug it will be seen by SE staff as well so if a mod can't fix it is easy enough to get it redirected.
@rene Yes, but I think the links are fine and it's the https errors that should be fixed. Editing the help page would be a workaround.
Only the first two links are wrong btw
@b_jonas no, the behavior is by design.
user315433
Yes, a mod can fix that. Those pages and tour are pretty visible, but rarely discussed.
user315433

@SFTP I did propose such a change in scifi.meta.stackexchange.com/q/7028/4918 . That was in 2016. Probably not the last time.

Anyway, you're right, I should post on their meta, a workaround should be worth until the SE overlords fix the error.
user315433
The redirect error will never be fixed, I think.
@SFTP Why do you think so?

@Shog9 We were talking about the reason why users aren't shown all their deleted posts. You told me that the current reason is contained in a comment. However, it's not at all clear that that's the case. In fact, the question has a +400 bounty now, with the following reason:
> If we want users to put effort into their posts, we shouldn't disrespect that effort with the threat of them losing it without any notice or way to recover it. The current design is user-hostile, and it's worse because it's design to deliberately hide what's happening so users don't realize their content is being lost. Trying to avoid some minor bickering is a very Jeff-circia-2008 rationalization for this behavior.
> I doubt the current staff would have arrived at this design if they had started fresh, instead of being biased by history.
