I am mainly on chats, unless need to ask a question ... if I answered a question, it's most likely an accident

metal wire and rubber band on gimbal - old fix on new technology :p

user202362
until I am back from this trip, then maybe consider buy new gimbal

Morning Mad Meta Munchkins!

Ano
Somehow, accessing chat in Edge while on a JetBlue Fly-Fi connection causes it to give an "outdated or unsafe security protocols" error

@Ano it might have some proxy in between?
@Ano they use the code filter elsewhere too IIRC
so... that seems premature

Ano
1:02 AM
@JourneymanGeek Someone told me it's only used on SO
(no one's earned the right Chaos Emerald for that one)
@JourneymanGeek It works fine in IE
...and Chrome
Unfortunately, others can only help me reproduce if they're currently on a JetBlue plane
@TelautonomousKitty How much is a new gimbal?

user202362
$60-$100

user202362
camera is functioning, so is the transmitter

user202362
just the gimbal that does not roll or spin

Ano
@TelautonomousKitty Which camera is it?

user202362
1:17 AM

Ano
@TelautonomousKitty Ah, a GoPro clone. I recently purchased the Sony action camera because Sony considered other uses of their camera, and equipped it with features like a built-in microphone input and a live-view remote. They even included a finger grip attachment to attach both the camera and remote together into a camcorder-like setup
With that camera, you don't need a gimbal
By the way @JourneymanGeek I discovered how to get free Wi-Fi on Alaska due to a glitch

user202362
1:38 AM
gimbal is needed so you can aim the cam on then drone in your direction when taking a picture at a scenic place from above :p

user202362
most action camera you can live view from remote, I have another inexpensive action camera that I can do that from a phone

user202362
but with this one and its transmitter, the seller claim the receiver/transmitter is able to communicate up to 2km

Ano
@JourneymanGeek You seem adept at your cultural references

I'm a child of the 80s :p

2:01 AM
@TelautonomousKitty I suppose the gymbal needs power?

Ano
@JourneymanGeek Did you grow up when Britney Spears was all over the radio?

user202362
@JourneymanGeek yes, powered by the same battery that supplies the main board

user202362
there is power to gimbal, the indicator light is on

user202362
just it doesn't do anything

user202362
I crashed the drone many times

user202362
2:10 AM
so it's possible something is broken inside

2:20 AM

So they're from the same ID space, but Channel IDs start at 10000, assuming site IDs will never reach that high.

... That seems destined for trouble... particularly if they don't stop making Cryptocurrency sites.

@Catija Well, NEO Blockchain was quite speedily approved but ended up failing. The arguments for keeping the site were very much based on en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:CRYSTALBALL

user315433
3:35 AM
I suppose that failed (closed) sites still use up a site id, but I didn't check.

user315433
Reusing Id is generally a bad idea.

user315433
Should have used negative Ids for Channels

3:48 AM
They reuse question IDs :D

0_0
or just start sites again after some other arbitrary number

user315433
4:11 AM
@Catija Not within the site. Different sites => different databases, so no worries.

@FTP Except that it makes it pretty much impossible to merge two sites together... which is part of why the Crypto sites problem is a problem.

user315433
Hm. They managed to merge Audio and Sound Design, though.

user315433
Not that it did much good.

4:36 AM
Hence "pretty much" impossible. :)

1 hour later…
6:04 AM
Morning!
@FTP Merge all sites to Yahoo! Answers...

user315433
693 is the highest Site ID so far, the meta of Constructed Languages

user315433
Hm. That's enough for 346 sites, which is twice as many as exist today.

user315433
Were half of all sites closed down? Hard to believe.

user202362
so if I were to ask "what's the most used function", where should I post the question?

Which site is ID 1?

user315433
6:15 AM
In any case, 693 in 9.5 years => have about 126 years left until hitting 10000.

user315433
@HTTP Unsurprisingly, Stack Overflow

@FTP maybe they get a site-id as soon as a site is proposed on A51? Would that make sense? Currently 245 proposals and there are enough closed and deleted ones?

12:27 PM
probably some dev.*.com for earlier sites
and also its meta

12:51 PM
@Ano it is because the explicit write access given by moderator, so it means this user is trusted.
It's somewhat confusing since the access is per-room, e.g. @Pseudohuman can't post here, but still... having a diamond mod give access means it's not a spammer or troll, so it makes sense to show the avatar.
And the avatar was anonymous until it got that write access, I'm sure of that since Pseudohuman lurked a lot in the Den.
Probably @Jenna asked some CM to give the bot write access at some point.
(RO can't give write access to users with less than 20 rep)
As for pings, I'm with you @Ano and also prefer replies and don't care for the pings, but also understand and respect the other views here which find pings annoying, so better try and not Reply to Shog (or the others) unless really necessary. Which is indeed a pain sometimes, but better be safe than sorry.... we don't want to make Shog angry.... ;)
Those who love pings, like @M.A.R., @PrincessLuna, @YvetteColomb, @Oded (I think ;)), @Bart, @Nog, @Jenna, @Fawad, and you @Ano are pretty rare. Maybe we should make a list somewhere... or add a field to chat profile.... :D

You should see my glow in the dark secrets. They didn't do that originally, but if you leave them for long enough that happens.
Guess the top secret now is... Where is Bart?!

1:07 PM
Bart is always behind you

nah, I would have felt his presence. :P
Also, @Bart casts a big shadow, hard to miss him when he's standing nearby. ;)

user202362
if someone is always behind you, (s)he is your tail?

@HTTP wonder if there's a site with ID 0 or negative, like the chat feed users? :D
@TelautonomousKitty excellent question! Guess that by definition they might be. :D
Though you can't really wag such a tail, so it's useless as a tail.

user202362

Stack Overflow eXtended? Seems like a competitor for SOUP~

I wonder... what makes this question such a crap trap??
Looks like the same person trolling around... but why that question?
@HTTP maybe when @Ilmari will finally be hired by SE, he'll make SOUP official and call it SOX indeed! :D
(or just SOP, which is less cool ;))

1:30 PM
@ShadowWizard I was wondering the same earlier

yeah, same style of writing (I have, I need, etc.)
People are weird...

oh, more that it was attracting strangeness
I'd hardly call that a style of writing
also... entirely right call, but hilarious that this got closed as a dupe meta.stackexchange.com/questions/307818/…

@JourneymanGeek lol... now that you point it out, I also see the irony in that.... :P

Are the final questions that go into the moderator Q/A for elections always based on votes or does the CM team makes a selection based on votes AND judgement? I mean my 2017 question didn't make it because the functionality I asked about changed midway. My 2018 one has a serious amount of down votes while still maintaining a postive score and currently ranked 5th

what do you mean by the moderator Q/A? For elections?

@JourneymanGeek yes
My 2016 question did make it into the final Q/A

ah
I think its both

Both? I declare that unfair upfront, just to make a point ;)

its primarily by votes, but if the question is pointless, or obsolete or offensive...

2:54 PM
Oh, I try those categories for the next election ...

> a person with little or no dress sense, uncouth
huh, you're the first person other than @Derpy who use uncouth! Well done, @Yve! :P

now I'm curious

You're always curious. We all are!

We're getting ponied, that's all

@rene Over 90% of all Area 51 proposals are deleted (Robert Cartaino posted the stats somewhere, but I can't find them). If site id was assigned at proposal creation, many more would be used by now.

yeah, it was a wild guess ...

user315433
@HTTP As long as it's not Stack Exchange eXtended...

@PrincessLuna pfft, he's a noob that just appears to have been here before me

user315433
@rene I think it's the usual "listen to the community and make your own judgement" process.

Okay, I'll prepare a rant, just in case ...

user315433
4:31 PM
Although, as time goes on and the number of elections increases, it becomes less of "making judgement" and more of "don't forget to post the final list on time", and also "don't forget about Daylight Saving Time".

Which I nearly did.

Bake a stand.
TAKE A STAND . . . Phew

@M.A.R. Bake a stand.. And then sell them! :p

@PrincessLuna the most successful inventions have been the most radical ones. 20 years from now, people will eat, wear and live in baked stands.

20 years? Sounds unlikely
If you start RIGHT NOW it may happen in just 10 years!

8:19 PM
@FTP Hm... That depends. Run a random number generator 1000 times in 42 different languages in the range [0, 84] and see what the average number is in all of them. Round it to the nearest whole number and calculate the average of those. If the number is 42, yes. If it isn't, no.

The Anatolian Shepherd Dog (Turkish: Anadolu çoban köpeği) is a breed of dog which originated in the Anatolia region of central Turkey. It is rugged, large and very strong, with good sight and hearing that allow it to protect livestock. With its high speed and agility it is able to run down a predator with great efficiency. The Kennel Club of the United Kingdom classifies it as a shepherd dog and Fédération Cynologique Internationale classifies it as molossus/mountain dog #331 (group 2 part 2.2) == History == The Karabaş (Blackhead) is descended from ancient livestock guardian dog types t...
