1:59 AM
We eat our young because they are delicious and rich in nutrients. They've grown fat on modern ideas and approaches. Kobe Programmers, YUM!

2:28 AM
I'm saying something in here so my "other rooms" doesn't look like ^^^ and I keep having to look at it and read it. q:

lmao
shanselman retweeted it and I thought it was funny
How goes your evening @RebeccaChernoff ?

it goes
you?

@RebeccaChernoff And then, when it goes away, it'll be nighttime!

ZOMG
NO WAY

@RebeccaChernoff And the zombies will come out...

2:34 AM
@RebeccaChernoff - How do I check that I submitted the correct address for my "You are on the top two pages of Apple.SE" swag?

@RebeccaChernoff slogging over some stuff and still at the office because I keep getting interrupted during my normal daytime for things that aren't really my problem. I knew I should have called in for the morning and worked from home and yelled at people.

@Moshe You double check and triple check before you hit the submit button.

@RebeccaChernoff Ok, I woke up to that email, can't blame me. I think I entered it correctly.

returns with a croissant

Well, thanks.

2:35 AM
Also, upset that I put in some items in the tracker that need to be tracked and then my boss goes and closes them as "not important" when I put them in at the LOWEST LEVEL OF THE TRACKER because they do need to be tended to in the future.
@Moshe I'll have to remember that defense.

You'd be surprised what we can blame you for.

hehe

"can't blame me, I did it right when I signed on in the morning"

@jcolebrand No, this was a quarter to 8, not even 8.

your point?

2:36 AM
@jcolebrand That would be my ultimate defense "Uh yeah, I'm perpetually tired.."

@Moshe um, yeah...no. Nobody forced you to reply right then...

@RebeccaChernoff True, I know.
is obviously wrong but won't admit it.

@TimStone ha!
So I've gone and flagged the cases in my own effing list and I'll deal with them as they become an issue.

Dear SE, not that I'm an ungrateful snot, but I'm impatient and want my swag. Yours, An undeserving user
:-D
listening to a friend whine about a 404 error over skype

@Tim, turn to your right.
then scroll down

2:39 AM
makes a 270 degree turn to the right

ok, it's time to go home, I don't have any more soda and the breakroom is locked

heh, enjoy

(side note: who the hell doesn't give the primary talent a key to the breakroom when they consistently work outside normal hours?)

@jcolebrand Was gonna say.

meh, one more page to mostly mock up

2:44 AM
You should have that key.

I think they are trying to rekey some stuff and this is an intermediate state

whispers in @jcolebrand's ear:
> Go. Make a ruckus, raise hell. Get the key that is rightfully yours.

like doing x swap y ... b = x, x = y, y = b

whispers in @jcolebrand's other ear:

@Moshe um no.

2:45 AM
> No, don't do it. It'll cause problems.

punches his left arm across his chest to the right

There we go. A picture is worth a thousand words.

most of which were either needless or already said.
Additionally, you have WAY too much freetime
Instead of chatting, you could be ... studying ... working on an iOS app ... answering Qs on Stack Overflow ;)

Or completing documentation for me.

@jcolebrand I'm actually working on a demo iOS app and answering a question at the same time.

2:53 AM
And yet you have time to find and decorate an image for me when the point was made ...
I wish I had four arms too ;)

The image took a lot quicker to decorate than you'd think.

Is it normal that my activity tab doesn't report a tag badge I gained?

@kiamlaluno On Meta? I see it

@TimStone Yes, on MSO.

@kiamlaluno which ones? I seem to see a correlation
I think it's stale caching on your end

3:06 AM
I got notified I gained the "discussion" badge, but when I clicked on the reported link, that badge was not reported.

Ok, but it is there. I see it
too lazy to do a screenshot

Now I see it too. It was just stale cache, then. (Or that, or Safari plays tricks :-).)
Oh… Who is spreading the Italian culture?
I have not used spanna from ages.

@kiamlaluno adonde vas?
ahhhh, that would be our resident Italiano

@jcolebrand That is Spanish (it seems). :-)

@kiamlaluno indeed it is
you learn fast ;)

3:12 AM
Yeah, I learn it to show that Italian is not similar to Spanish at all. :-)
I didn't know badp was Italian.
I don't think somebody would learn spanna in an Italian class. :-)

I'm like 85% sure he's Italian
this reinforces that tho

I would say so. :-)
It could be his sock puppet lives in a different country, though.

perhaps
you do get the meta joke there aye?

Is it anything like "Two tomatoes walk in a road. The first says, "Watch out! (Splash!)," and the second replies, "What? (Splash!)"?

Close as not constructive (subjective), please:
0
Q: _ or - ? Best practice?

BritneySpearsI think I'm going to change the way I name them: class-name class_name className classname How do most people name classes / IDs? Is there a statistic about this somewhere? I guess the best practice in this case would be the method the majority uses

3:27 AM
@kiamlaluno no, on meta people complain about others having sockpuppets and getting upvoted from the sockpuppets (doubly so when the site first started) so he is poking fun at people who have sockpuppets. It's painfully obvious to the regulars that it's his primary account. Just funny.
@Moshe how about well defined duplicate?

@jcolebrand Didn't notice that bit. Whatever.

@jcolebrand Oh, that joke. Then tomatoes are not involved. :-)
I must remember that I cannot edit my posts ad infinitum anymore.

lol, not on this server sadly
isn't that a fun ability to have?

@kiamlaluno What changed? You mean the chat posts?

@jcolebrand Oh yes; it helps me a lot. I always add typos when I write in real time.

3:34 AM
I know what you mean

@Moshe Yeah, the chat posts.

@Moshe he's a mod on another site in the network

Oh, I see.

When we're bluediamonds (on chat.se) we can edit anything, anywhere, and see deleted posts.

Nice.

3:35 AM
@jcolebrand Actually, I was. :-)

I am working towards 10K on SO.

Yeppers. Why did you think I became a mod of dba.se ;)
@kiamlaluno oh you dropped that eh?

It's more than a month that I am not a moderator anymore.

you were on EL&U weren't you?

@jcolebrand Reminds me that I had a situation the other day where Grace Note's feature request for on-site comment editing actually would have come in handy, heh.

3:35 AM
no, you were just active there ...
where were you a mod at?

@jcolebrand I should have done it; they dropped me. :-)
I was pro-tem moderator on Drupal Answers.

Why again?

There have been complains about me as moderator. As I was appointed, they decided (correctly) to drop me.
The only site where I could become moderator, and I wasted this opportunity. I am surely not smart at all. :-)

yawns
G'night.

@Moshe Good night.

3:46 AM
@kiamlaluno were the complaints valid?

@jcolebrand I would not know; I don't know which complains they got.

Hmmm

I need some new SE legacy other than having been 1/2 of the cooking.se chat at one point.

@jcolebrand For sure I know that personal issues made me more irritant, lately. I surely didn't like that somebody who was not participating to the main site, or the meta site, came and down-voted my questions, or answers on meta.

@mootinator slacker, you're obviously not trying hard enough

3:51 AM
@jcolebrand That is the case.

@mootinator chat.meta.stackoverflow.com/users?tab=all&sort=activity <-- about to go head to head with Jeff

Right after a discussion with that user, I have been dropped.

@kiamlaluno that's the hassle of the biz bro
@kiamlaluno I see

Biz is for smart people. :-)

@mootinator Such a proud legacy that was, surely. But yes, it's time to move on to even bigger things.

3:54 AM
@jcolebrand Ah, I just read what your gravatar says. :-)

@jcolebrand Nice.

@mootinator Yeah, I'm not sure I should do that ... means I spend way too much time in here. Also, on average, 1 in 10 messages are mine. And I only came on this server in the fall.
@kiamlaluno Yeah, I should make a new one. Next haircut perhaps.

@kiamlaluno @JeffAtwood?
hides.

@mootinator Do you mean if "that user" is Jeff?

@kiamlaluno Right, I followed that conversation oddly.

3:57 AM
@mootinator Oh no. I have never had discussions with Jeff.
It would not be possible, as he doesn't say something false as "you removed all the tags from my questions."

Jeez I didn't even notice @DanGrossman stopped wasting time here. I'm a bad, bad, meta tavern chatter.

@mootinator I think he just got bored, no?
I figured he was still over on chat.so
I drug a bunch of people over here somehow when I came, I think they were upset that I was so quiet
chat.stackoverflow.com/users?tab=all&sort=activity <-- #10 over there (but about to be unseated it would appear)

@jcolebrand Ah.

really impressive is being #36 on the chat.so servers, since they see so much more traffic in general

> last post 119d ago
I know how to prevent people from getting bored.

4:05 AM
@mootinator whos?

hahahahaha

UNICORNS AND GLITTER!!!!11!!!one!
@jcolebrand @DanGrossman

I see

I no longer have decent photo editing software in order to add a caption to that photo.

4:11 AM
@mootinator it's called paint.net

nifty
I wonder how fast my laptop would be without SQL Server running in the background.

lmao, it would be a helluva lot better
I have the same qualms

See, I leave to finish coding/sleep and I find that my demo is reinventing the wheel. Meh, blasted Google.
2
And, somehow I end up back on StackExchange looking for the answer to my question.

will I get a obsessively addicted badge in 7 days?

Okay, I discovered that I have a new control to write tomorrow. Uh Oh, my Laptop is due for repairs.
Gnight...

4:26 AM
@Sathya Zoinks.

@Moshe 'nite

@Moshe that happens a lot
@Sathya there should be one, yes

closes Xcode first then Safari
backs away slowly...

kicks @Moshe out
@jcolebrand heh

goes to sleep.

4:59 AM
Is jeff hitting me with sarcasm?
1
A: Ask A Question should remove whitespace before checking for validity of message.

Jeff AtwoodGood idea! I'll strip excess lines (including lines of all whitespace) before running this check. (?:^\s*\r?\n$){2,}

well you asked for it.

Is it?
It was a question, not a comment
anyways, gone to bed

@jcolebrand Good night.

@jcolebrand you did ask in the question.. "remove whitespace before checking" .. that's what he's doing. I'm confused?

5:40 AM
Morning all
15 hours ago, by Moshe
@Manjot No. I read in a BlackBerry development book at a local bookstore that RIM charges $200 per year for up to 10 apps. That was enough to convince me to put the book back. It also made me realize that Apple isn't so expensive after all.

6:12 AM
so the user page says I have 602 edits, what's it take to get the copy editor badge these days?

give it some time, @MarkElliot

@Sathya ? I didn't get 100 edits over night, the threshold is noted as 500 on the badges page

> Editing your own questions and answers does not count towards the Copy Editor (or Strunk & White) badge. Nor does editing your comments. For it to count, you have to have edited someone else's question or answer.
just a thought
do consider a Meta post.
Perform a total of 500 edits between questions, answers and tag wikis
 - Edits on deleted posts do not count
 - Edits to your own posts do not count
 - Edits to CW posts do count
 - Edits that consist only of tag changes do not count
 - Tag wiki edits do count
 - Edits you suggest before gaining full edit privileges do count, once approved

How is the number on the user page computed?

i believe it counts all edits.

6:22 AM
per the last data dump

that counts all edits, not the ones mentioned above

fair enough

I am getting this
what does it mean?

6:38 AM
site's having problems.

@Manjot It means there has been a server fault.

Where was that at? @Manjot - i.e. where did you see it?

@MarcGravell It was in chat room of StackOverflow but it works fine.
In this chat room,I was getting
but now it works fine

6:54 AM
what do you do when the recommended method for an implementation is stupidly boneheaded?

If it happens then I'll try to modulate the implementation :) @Sathya

@Manjot well, wish I could do that.

Thumbs Up.

1 hour later…
8:07 AM
Back again :)
@OctavianDamiean Hi, How are you?

got my moo cards

what is moo card?
@Sathya Is this your photograph looking different?

different, how?

This image is totally different

well I'm wearing shades in one :p

8:12 AM
well, yes...
moo card = business card?

@tombull89 What is the significance to have moo card?
@Sathya Your face is healthy in this pic :)

it's just a name.
lol.

Me too can have moo card?
@tombull89 Is that is bar code?

@Manjot is what a bar code? The black square? It's a "QR" code which is similar.

@tombull89 It is particular for each user?

8:17 AM
I don't know, I've never used one.

leave anyways,How are you @tombull89?

not too bad.

tombullock.co.uk

back soon, apologies for any inconvenience.

downloads folder and devsite still online
What is the surprise in it?

there's no surprise, I've just not had time to work on it.

What do people get while blogging?
I mean they get any revenue?

8:21 AM
satisfaction of sharing knowledge?
oh, very little, if you have adverts.

Like how SO earn?
There is no as such advertisements on SO

No, they get their money through the careers site and the money they raised through investors
(small matter of $18 Million)

Ok
Is it small?
How they recuit for the careers?
I mean, if I want to become a part of SO then what would be a procedyre

It's a job site, where people pay to advertise thir jobs.
If you want to see what jobs they have, well, >>> stackexchange.com/about/hiring

Ok
but jobs for NY how would reach there as I am in India?

8:27 AM
you would a) relocate or b) wait for oppertunites in india

I can relocate but for that I should have offer letter

...
well, apply and see if you get an offer.

but I am an iPhone Software Developer
and they want C#, ASP.NET MVC and Microsoft SQL Server

I hear things of an iOS app, maybe they would want someone for that?

Where should I apply for iOS apps?

8:32 AM
I'm not a programmer (as previously explained) so I wouldn't know where to look for programming jobs.

@tombull89 What do you do then?
If you are not programmer,I mean what is your profession?

Jun 10 at 8:02, by tombull89
@ManjotSingh I'm a network technician for a school, so Server 2008, Active Directory, and VMWare ESX for starters.

Oh,I got it :)

8:57 AM
@tombull89 oh earnings via adverts are quite sizable, if you target the right niche

uh, I submitted a comment on reddit 17 minutes and 6 minutes ago
tried to put up a third and it said, "you're doing that too much. try again in 4 minutes"

@Sathya Indeed, but you've got to get the viewership too, for example on Jeffs blog.
Personally, I'd rather not bother and either absorb the cost of my site (as I do at the moment) or find other ways of earning money.

@tombull89 yep, that's true.
I tried, but I was.. peanuts.

@balpha I can't think of a particularly good way to make keyboard control of that dialog box work either, but it does seem less than ideal that the focus stays on #wmd-input initially. You could always focus on #filename-input, but lot of good that'd do them if they couldn't tell I suppose.

I'll have to cheat a bit, since the text box & button aren't the actual file input

9:08 AM
Aye
I also think I found the faulty codepath in the WebKit source, but need to dig around a bit more so it's not just speculation.
But now, more documentation writing. sigh

OIC, Jeff started posting my emails on Meta...

Seems so, heh.

9:24 AM
heh?

1 hour later…
10:53 AM
@balpha Is this to pre-empt an upcoming Wikileaks revelation?

1 hour later…
11:59 AM
Searching for a job in the SF Bay Area can be a nightmare sometimes, mainly due to recruitment systems that look like they were developed by Rube Goldberg.
Imagine a job application system to which you can upload a résumé PDF. It will parse the PDF and auto-insert your address information with the data it finds there.
Great, right? Probably took a four-person team two months to develop.
But your résumé PDF is then discarded, and you have to paste its contents into a textarea which of course breaks formatting and tables.
But it's required. Applications that do not have a full résumé in the textarea will not be considered.
Seriously, how fucking dumb is that. And it's not even one company's internal recuriting system, but one that you can rent as a service.
And nobody ever complains of course, because you want the job! But I'm seriously tempted to sign my applications with: "P.S. your recruiting system should be marinated with gasoline, and thrown into a burning pit."
5

@Pekkasseriousaccount what
What is the point of the PDF in the first place then

@Pekkasseriousaccount o_0

@badpssockpuppet apparently, parsing out the address info (and a broken plain text version of the résumé). I am not kidding! And I double-checked I didn't misunderstand.

Sounds like you need a markdown to latex interface!
Paste the markdown, upload the PDF from the markdown.
(as if they'd understand it)

12:15 PM
Hahaha! That would fix it.
Or a PDF to ASCII art converter

 Steve O’Hear, who is leaving Techcrunch Europe to become CEO of a new startup called Beepl.

Annoyingly, Steve isn’t saying publicly what Beepl actually does, although the strap line reads a “smarter way to question the world.” They also call themselves an “expertise platform” and “semantic technology company”, it says here…. Whatever. It’s clearly some lame kind of Quora clone and he’ll be back in 6 months asking for his old job back.

That's... active aggressive.

12:55 PM
RIM wants $200 (USD) as an “administration fee” to complete registration. Yup. No $200, no passing go, no uploading free application to app store. Thank you, come again.

1:11 PM
@Manjot I mentioned this yesterday.The thing is that nowhere on their site does it mention anything about it. They just slap it on you at the end of the paperwork process.
@Fosco - What iOS are you running on your iPad?

@Moshe Hiya... hmm.. I haven't touched it in a while, so no idea..

Ok, I'm building for 4.2, since it's iPad only and might I want to rely on newer features. No need for anyone to have 3.2 anyway. (I think we went through this once and you have 4.x, just checking.)

Now what?

yeah i think its 4.2 but don't know the exact version..

iOS 5 released?

1:14 PM
@Manjot Now you give up on BlackBerry like the rest of the human race (and stop asking BlackBerry questions here)?
@Manjot iOS 5 is not out yet, no. Wait until the Fall.

@Moshe but I need to complete as my boss is saying to do it :)
ok

@Manjot Then your boss should pay for it. It's his business expense.

He will ofcourse why should I?

@Manjot So what is the problem? Just get him to pay for it and stop worrying about it.

but for version they will consider as an app, this is not fair :(

1:17 PM
Doesn't look like you've got any choice.

@Manjot So call them. I wish you the best of luck with that. Look, just because you are not charging your users, doesn't mean RIM doesn't incur a cost hosting/distributing your app. They have to hire technicians, run a data center, hire lawyers to protect you and them...

@tombull89 You know what Blackberry app development is very hard

Ok, I'm out for a while.

Cya

@Moshe I'll do

1:19 PM
@Manjot yes, but costs are to be expected. I can't throw people and time at a problem and expect it to go away. Money needs to come into play as well.

1:29 PM
Well I guess everyone runs his business. :D

1:57 PM
@Pekkasseriousaccount Maybe it's a test! You have to realize the resume software sucks and let them know it before they think you're good enough for the job.
