9:00 PM
I choose Pikachu. ;)

I'm also moving the conversation over to another room to trample less on the tavern
@GeorgeMarian sadly now your comment looks out of place :p
but that's ok, I'll choose the twins

Yes, yet it does. :P

(One should always choose the twins ;) )

It's still random, though.
lol
mmm...twins....

in the interest of family friendliness we of course don't mean anything perverted, instead the doublemint twins

9:03 PM
@jcolebrand Mmmm.... Doublemint twins...

I know right, how long has it been since the last time you heard about them?

Ha. Tasty on more than one level...

@GeorgeMarian I've always heard I'm a cunning linguist ... and a good one at that
punny too

hi

9:05 PM
> There were 2 files or directories that could not be transferred. Check the log for which items were not properly transferred.

Just a fast question - Does SO have rules?

@GeorgeMarian that sucks
@genesis no. We routinely execute people who ask about the rules. My advice is to burn your house down.

@genesis Could you be more specific? Obviously it has some rules.

Really!? I transferred over 7k files. Wouldn't it be easier to display a list of the errors?

32 secs ago, by jcolebrand
@GeorgeMarian that sucks
@genesis stackoverflow.com/faq <-- the least number of the rules are in here. Additionally we have a whole site devoted to rules and clarification at Meta Stack Overflow

9:06 PM
Especially, since this host doesn't provide shell access.

@GeorgeMarian: No word matching "rules"
sorry george, I mant @jcolebrand
meant*

you know you can press up to edit right?
@genesis shall I open your brain and pour in my knowledge or shall you learn it for yourself by reading?
What is the question in focus that you are asking about rules?

I'll try it... aah, nice edit

If you see something you don't like, flag it

I just didn't want to have any troubles.
okay, thanks

9:09 PM
To be fair, we didn't tell you anything more than read the faq, what was your question?
speak now or forever hold your peace

@jcolebrand With the lemons.

@badpssockpuppet I thought it was a nice touch

I was asking if SO has rules :p

I am myself again!

@demongolem and yet this user account will be gone within the hour. Log out of chat and back in
I know this because I'm clicking your profile on the left and tracing it back to meta

9:22 PM
@TimStone Aha! Doing a "change active branch" to the current branch did the trick!

@genesis and again the question is "what rules are you wanting to know about specifically?"
Do you want to know if people are allowed to spit on the sidewalks? Take stuff home? Delete their own answers or questions at random? Poke others in the eye with pencils?

ok is it fine now?

@demongolem it's not taking. We'll deal with it when the time comes. In the meantime, go here:

nvm @jcolebrand

@genesis well there are lots of rules
you're just asking for some vague thing
I'm asking for clarification
much as I would do if you asked a question on one of the stack sites that was vague.

9:26 PM
hmm. second, I'll find an example

This isn't a schoolhouse. It's more akin to a library mixed with a rugby field. Some rules are written down (faq) and some you learn as you go.

for example, Can I place a link anywhere to my website?

@genesis There's a field for that in your user profile.
Click on your username on the top bar of any site and click the "edit" link by your info.

I was just confused that it's first site without "Confirm that you read rules" before registration
@PopularDemand I know, but is that allowed as "demo" in posts?

@genesis What is a "demo"?

9:28 PM
@genesis sure, if you're demoing an answer to a problem. Generally better (for web based situations) is to use a service like pastebin or jsfiddle

instead of jsfiddle, can user use his own site?
okay.

your site is more likely to go down than jsfiddle is
of course, you're more likely to get hit by lightning than win the lottery.

:D
why do you think I'm more suitable to be down than jsfiddle? Tinypic was very reliable hosting, and you know what happend

I didn't say more suitable, I said more likely

ok, whhy more likely ?

9:35 PM
you're splitting hairs. I don't mean you personally, I mean you the third person.

10:04 PM
Hello

Indeed

@genesis Something to keep in mind - with either jsfiddle or your own site - is that it should be used purely to demonstrate the problem. You should describe the problem in detail in the question itself, and include a short code snippet that can be used to reproduce it.

10:22 PM
@Shog9 I'm pretty sure he gave up on the tavern ;)

Oh, well. I'll be on the lookout for a "too localized" question on the horizon...

hahahahaha

Best new user ever!

Q: Recursive link when "privileges unlocked"

LainIwakuraWhen I unlock something and get the bar at the top, I'll navigate to that page, but the "Learn more" thing that links to that page is on that page. Click the link, and it goes...to that page, and displays that bar..and we have an infinite loop =P Here is a picture: As you can see, I am on the ...

Correct spelling and grammar! Reasonable request! Read the Meta voting FAQ before posting!

@jcolebrand Wow.
(Didn't know they had a blog, but - wow.)

@Moshe you missed like the first five times when I mentioned that whole story?

10:47 PM
@jcolebrand Yes, been busy. ;-)
I'm actually hiring a graphic designer for a change, instead of rolling my own stuff. Not sure what to expect.
Anyone ever hired an artist before for an application?

11:03 PM
I hear it's important to get a portfolio from them but that it's unfair to ask them to do work for you upfront before you've sat down with them and discussed price etc.
I can link you to a not totally related discussion if you would like
Is it really that hard to follow existing code to implement a new feature?

11:19 PM
@jcolebrand Please do.
@jcolebrand What do you mean?

@Moshe frustration at a coworker

@jcolebrand Ah, ok.

@Moshe the nerdest podcast, there was a discussion in front of a studio audience, I'll have to pull it up

@jcolebrand Ok, thanks. I happen to know this designer, and have seen a small sampling of their work.

11:31 PM
@Moshe Nerdist Podcast #93: ROBERT KIRKMAN nerdist.com/2011/05/nerdist-podcast-93-robert-kirkman but look, a) you're only looking for like the last 15 minutes (the audience Q&A part), and b) it's ADULT EXPLICIT so you may not enjoy the whole thing (given heritage and the like) but you need to understand that I'm sharing this because of the connections in the industry these guys have and their experience.
Kirkman had to hire designers and artists and the like, and the audience asked about that experience, and how things worked there and such.
