Anyone have a link to the source code for the WOB handy?

@TimStone Brilliant, thank you.
Wow, chat works much more smoothly with FF4 than FF3.

Yeah, I noticed the difference when I switched to Chrome too. Good to hear that FF4 picked up the pace, though.

@TimStone Closed as too localized :P
Oh, and from reddit:

Q: HTML page to PDF converter in Ruby?

Mr. BlackIs there available any gem or plugins to convert HTML page to PDF?.

What is this guy talking about? And why is it not a duplicate?

Beginning to implement my first API
I wanted a server to store JSON data on a per-user basis from Javascript apps that regularly use localStorage
localStorage is great, but a mechanism that also creates a copy online I think just gives a safer state of mind to users...
So I'm basically making a fairly robust API that will take JSON data and store it in a database, and serve it up when I request

@TylerChacha sweet
@TylerChacha sounds like a bit of a memcache store

Yeah. It really isn't anything fancy at the current point in time
But it serves my need.. which is a way to store JSON data on a server
I just started to create another Javascript based app, and continued to think that it would be a lot nicer to be able to sync stuff between my computer's versions of the app
So in about 48 hours I'll have my solution..
Then I just have to write the Javascript Lib for it and start integrating it into my apps

I mean, none of it is hard really. Authentication is a token-based system. User logs in via login/pass, app gets token, app sends token with requests
The database structure is all nice. Sanitation is easy. The hardest part is finding the edge cases..

6:23 AM
loading it from a remote server and having it maintain communication with the server without having to constantly reinject jsonp might be nice tho ;)

it isn't going to be a 'resave every 5 min' thing..
The idea is that the user specifically tells it to save to the server
or load from the server
hmm..
I'll have to think about that..
First things first..
there really isn't a way to maintain communication without using JSONP over and over again..
anyway, good night

good night.

Ah, good, same faces. The scene hasn't changed lol
And crap, I seem to have missed tons of "meetup" activity by dropping off the face of the earth

@YiJiang When did editing approval show up... did I miss a blog post?

@Hogan Well yes...

The Stack Exchange engine draws inspiration from a number of sources.

We continue to be great admirers of Wikipedia, but we’ve always missed out on one crucial aspect of their system: we never allowed anonymous users to edit content. No, that required earning privileges through participation — specifically, the retag privilege at 500 reputation and the full editing privilege at 2000 reputation.

Well, as of today, I’m proud to announce that we allow anonymous and new users to edit content in our system! The surface area of this change is huge — it means the millions of drive-by anonymous users that visit our sites every day can submit an improvement or correction. Furthermore, you can earn up to +1000 reputation for submitting valid edits.  …

Ok, I must have been asleep during Feb.

5:22 PM
102 Storage is coming along..
Now I just have to make the Write API
Loading and Authentication works perfectly
Beautiful JSON!

5:50 PM
... I don't see the elephant

I see it!

6:06 PM
It's a lie. It's cthulhu. Don't look.

@YiJiang I think it's "sitting down"

YOU
where did you get that image @YiJiang?

@YOU Picross puzzle

YOU
thx
related to this one? youtube.com/watch?v=fQ62NQYTuhQ
looks like same thing, don't understand well, what that mean :P

YOU
6:20 PM

@YOU ooo... that makes sense. Well, its still impossible to see from the monotone picross the elephant

YOU
yeah

@YiJiang Actually I did see it
well...
I only saw trunk, but still?

@YiJiang It is easy to see if one's eyes are as bad as mine.
No worries... you will get older and the world will be blurrier -- be glad you can't see it yet.

YOU
looks like its not that hard, if you shrink and blur.

6:33 PM
I told you I saw it...
37 mins ago, by Tyler Chacha
I see it!
And YOU doubted me..

YOU
@TylerChacha, nope, not you. I didn't see it myself
I was agreeing with YiJiang about its hard to see it.

@TylerChacha I saw it too.

7:23 PM
anyone given Gnome3 a good look yet?

@AidenBell I haven't been feeling adventurous lately. Though, I guess installing something into a VM isn't that adventurous.

@GeorgeMarian - Yea the Fedora 15 images are quite stable, though in a VM Gnome3 falls back to a 2 feel as it has no GPU hardware in the vm
Mind you my hopes for Gnome3 are not high. I have been a Gnome user since I used a PC, and I suspect Gnome3 will be rubbish

@AidenBell Yeah, good point.

@GeorgeMarian - booting the livcd is an option though

True, it'd be enough to get a feel for it.

If you have an nVidia and want to try Gnome 3
your best bet is
- get tons of ram
- get an Ubuntu (yes, an Ubuntu) live CD
- install the experimental FOSS nVidia drivers from the additional drivers section
- install gnome 3
- run gnome 3
(I assume Fedora does not come with nouveau 3D acceleration, or an easy way to install it)
(I assume Mutter blows much less with actual 3D acceleration)

@badpssockpuppet I don't know, but it's not Debian. :)

I've "grown up" with apt :)

Yah, apt is pretty nice.
While it is a departure from the traditional Linux way, I kinda like the Debian way of doing things.

@badpssockpuppet - Fedora does come with Nouveau
and it is a royal bitch to disable

I gotta appreciate the speed of pacman, but the arch guys only want to package the really main stuff -- the rest you must compile from scratch
@AidenBell Nouveau basic (no 3D accel.) or Nouveau with experimental 3D acceleration?

9:46 PM
@badpssockpuppet - also installing the Fedora15 alpha atm.
@badpssockpuppet - re Nouveau, not sure, I just disable it and slap NVIDIA blob in the kernel

@AidenBell maaaan, the nvidia proprietary drivers are such a PITA
especially when messing with more than a monitor

@badpssockpuppet - never had a problem, even on 3 monitors and Xinerama

@AidenBell Yes, I guess that once you adapt to that royal PITA that is the nVidia config clusterfuck...

@badpssockpuppet - actually, I was forced to use separate X spaces on each monitor for about 2 years ... but recent X11/NVIDIA/Xinerama/Gnome combos have been OK
Anyway, nouveau is has been super buggy in my exp

with 3D accel I only tried Minecraft, and it ran well

9:50 PM
Last time I used it was stock fedora14 and it crashed left right an center, and was really juttery with basic WM drawing

Once burned and all that

Still it's a pity neither of nVidia and ATI are interested in open sourcing their drivers.

Bollocks really

Apparently the ATI drivers suck balls

9:52 PM
Never even owned an ATI card. Always AMD/NVIDIA combos ... which seems retarded now ATI and AMD are one and the same
ATI card's rendering always looks ... funny. Like when you change keyboard ... it just doesn't feel right

@AidenBell Ah, the "good" old days.

I still get flashbacks from
Now look
New games lack atmosphere

@GeorgeMarian - My bloody android phone can play quake3 and I remember when that pushed a PC spec lol

@AidenBell Heh. I have Simcity on my iPhone.

10:05 PM

@AidenBell IIRC, I tried to like that game, but never really did.

I was addicted to:
for a long while. Little known game

Yay, My API is now Read and Write
I think I might just be about done..

@TylerChacha - I just finished a ground up OAuth1.0a implementation in Python (client and server)
What a bitch
I feel your API success

Basically two systems: Account and Data
Account: /storage/account/retrieve (Get Auth Token), /revoke (Revoke Auth Token), /view. (Get Account Data)
Data: /storage/stores/ (View all User's Stores), /stores/@id (Get specific store data), /stores/@id/meta (Get store meta data), /stores/new (New), /stores/@id/update (Update)
No delete yet..
dammit.. how did I get below 10k on meta?
that kinda ticks me off..

10:36 PM
250k messages. Wow...

sigh

11:27 PM
Eh, @raven , time to be more chatty

11:58 PM
is missing a drill bit
Every little project always requires every tool in the house and one you don't have.
