When users download iPhone apps, can developers gain access to user identifiable information (e.g., full name, email address, iTunes account)?
How about Android app downloads?
We believe the answer is no, but just wanted to verify the privacy policies on the respective platforms.
So developers...
Sure, it's a company, and some things need attention, and some things must be done outside the public eye, but it seems like a few big proposals and recent changes that received a lot of community flak has convinced SEI that it's better to simply do the work than sit down with the community and hash it out.
@GeorgeMarian Heh. It's a mixed blessing for any company.
Essentially says, "We're not following through with this proposal, we're no longer going to talk to the community about it, and we are implementing something that is going to perform a similar function."
> We are reevaluating this based on community feedback. The new heuristic to prevent questions being asked will probably be based on a combination of question closes, question deletes, question flags, and lack of significant upvoting, even at very low levels (0.20 etc) -- scoped to new-ish users.
There's nothing particularly sensitive about it, so the only reason not to discuss it publicly is to avoid confrontation.
There is the problem that the community is not privy to the data that SEI has, so we can't possibly know enough to make the best choice, but that doesn't mean that the statistics that are driving the decisions can't be published and the resulting decisions discussed. Except it takes a lot of work, and the only thing SEI gets back from the community is flak about it.
So it just gives a very strong impression of a widening gulf. It's not a bad thing - it's just how things are going to have to operate in order for SEI to make significant progress in the direction they intend to go.
Deleted questions are not part of the corpus, and some are deleted due to sensitive information. Therefore they are not released as part of the data dump.
Then again, it's Spring again. Perhaps I just need to turn leechblock back on and come back in the fall like I did last year. If things are irritating me it means I've become too involved...
@TimStone I suspect one part of the problem is that Meta, once a cozy hive of crazy, has grown along with stackoverflow, and so there are a lot more opinionated people. It's hard to have a good coherent discussion in a stadium packed with 5,000 slightly crazy users.
I am working with Spring 3.0 framework and still a novice. Can anyone explain me in layman terms what is AOP programming? (a short example will definitely help)
How does Spring incorporate/enhance/support it?
ok to say this? > [Spring's manuals](http://static.springsource.org/spring/docs/3.0.x/reference/aop.html) are really awesome, and I'd encourage you to take a look.
It's an ad for the WA lottery. Goes well with @drachenstern comment the other day about the well-off in human society spending their time trying to kill themselves.
In other news, this description continues to amuse me:
> The padding problem is especially noticeable in certain applications. Rhythmbox, for example, looks like what you would get if the giant marshmallow man from the Ghostbusters movie wiped its fluffy white rear end on iTunes.
It looks like they're pretty safe from cliffs, but the umbrella in the background suggests they probably shouldn't be wearing metals suits. It would be interesting if they got rusted in.
Is anyone around who can spare an invite to careers.stackoverflow.com? I feel I should qualify for an account based on my SO contribution, but the automated system won't talk to me!
@drachenstern check my profile - stackoverflow.com/users/503969/greg-sansom. It's not brilliant but I think it shows I'm not a bot and confirms I'm providing value to the community.

@TylerChacha How about a badge for a meta post which has a decent positive score which promptly goes negative after Jeff Atwood criticizes it. We could call it "Trampled by Sheep"

The CSS for both Ask Ubuntu and Ask Ubuntu Meta contains a useless CSS value. (When I say useless, I mean that it doesn't affect the page at all if removed.)
As you can see, the .container for the page contains the CSS style position: relative; and I have no idea why because none of the other ...
On the SE sites, there have always been fancy logos that fit the theme. However, the new mobile theme hides them and shows alternate text. The text has contained the site name and then " - StackExchange". I assume that this is for SEO purposes but on sites like "English Language & Usage", thi...
A Gantt chart is a type of bar chart that illustrates a project schedule. Gantt charts illustrate the start and finish dates of the terminal elements and summary elements of a project. Terminal elements and summary elements comprise the work breakdown structure of the project. Some Gantt charts also show the dependency (i.e., precedence network) relationships between activities. Gantt charts can be used to show current schedule status using percent-complete shadings and a vertical "TODAY" line as shown here.
Although now regarded as a common charting technique, Gantt charts were consi...

In Java, what is the best way to determine the size of an object?
sizeof java object
C has a sizeof operator, and it needs to have one, because the user has to manage calls to malloc, and because the size of primitive types (like long) is not standardized.
But in...
Hmm. Does look like a bug, but I can't reproduce it locally. When I tag a question with a duplicate, then close it as duplicate, the comments are always deleted.
A few things to be aware of, for auto-deletion of these comments to work:

- question must be closed with final close reason of [exact duplicate] - comments must start with "possible duplicate of", exactly - comments must not have been edited
I don't know if those rules are changed though @YiJiang
