are spammers hired under other job titles? there are so many of them & I have never seen a job title such as 'spammer' or 'Senior spammer'

Rob
I'd guess they'd be working for an 'advertising' company

that's my thought too

maybe internet is a place that only says no to spam that doesn't pay, if you pay enough, internet will offer to hide your spam and promote it as useful material :p

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Blacklisted website in answer: Playing FLAC, Ogg Vorbis and Opus files over DLNA to a renderer by xiangshuii on superuser.com
@bwDraco That post was not automatically flagged by metasmoke.
user315433
Which is good, because it's not a clear cut case. I didn't flag it either.

@bwDraco India’s really not doing so hot in this particular model. Most of it’s less distorted than I’d expect, though!
user315433
I like the map, it brings the countries closer together. Things would be a little different if people could hop between U.S. and Europe on a weekend without thinking much of it.

It's quite surprising how few users participated in the Winterbash. Well, to me at least.
@Bart start here
I personally didn't go out of my way to earn hats, just went along with it
10:00
@Derpy sure, you might not like it. But even the hat you get for simply participating doesn't really have a high count.
@Bart that would bring me to conspiracy theory #2 - Stack userbase is slowly declining
or at least: the % of the userbase that wants to get involved in "Stack Exchange social life" is slowly declining
Dunno. Didn't look at the figures of others years
10:32
@Bart just look at this chat room. You really think that there hasn't been an user-message drop lately?
Sure, but keep in mind that this room goes back to the MSO age where things were far more active
And several new rooms have been spun off from this one

Do any bugs related only for Stack Overflow sites (main, meta and any of localized ones) should be posted on SO meta or Meta.SE also appropriate place for them?
@alexolut if it also affects the localized ones, I think it's fine to post on MSE. If people think otherwise, they'll just migrate it to MSO, so don't worry too much about it.
@Stijn ok. Thanx.
@alexolut oh, and give you free downvotes and salt in the process.

Q: Alignment issue for "questions that may already have your answer"

alexolutWhen asking a new question the list of "Questions that may already have your answer" contains questions with (green rectangle) and without accepted answers. As you can see these types or question has different indent: Related only for Stack Overflow sites (localized and metas too).

@Derpy you are welcome ^^^
13:03
thanks, already took my daily dose of salt today.
@Derpy what do you mean under "salt"?
they probably tried configuring Share Point
That reminds me, I found out why our hosted SP is so incredibly slow. Management went with the cheapest tier available.
They always do
13:11
@Stijn don't worry, someone tried to force us to use D1 sized azure vm for sharepoint development....
Always make sure you put stuff in your proposals that management can ditch. That makes them feel important
@rene and remember to tell them they should ignore the raw almond smell too.
It is just your new perfume.
:D
@Derpy fun video, but I can't understand about "salt" whatever, sorry.

Coffee tea refers to herbal tea made from non-bean parts of the coffea (coffee plant), and may refer to: Coffee tea leaves Coffee cherry tea Ground coffee, brewed in a coffee bag, like bagged tea, is referred to simply as "coffee", and is similar to filter coffee. Yuanyang (drink), a drink combining coffee and tea...
@Bart lol, true!
Yuenyeung or coffee with tea (often transliterated according to the Cantonese Chinese pronunciation Yuenyeung, Yinyeung, or Yinyong), also commonly known as Kopi Cham in Malaysia (cham from the Hokkien word mix) is a popular beverage in Hong Kong, made of a mixture of three parts of coffee and seven parts of Hong Kong-style milk tea. It was originally served at dai pai dongs (open air food vendors) and cha chaan tengs (cafe), but is now available in various types of restaurants. It can be served hot or cold. The name Yuenyeung, which refers to mandarin ducks (Yuanyang), is a symbol of conjugal...

@BrianNickel can you help me to get link for beta testing of iOS app? Already two times did request for it via google form, but no luck.

@ShadowWizard I see posts with bugs from @Cai where he used beta version. Not available in AppStore.
@alexolut well, most likely installed it long ago, and it's still working, but I doubt new people can join/install it.

@JasonC how exactly is this duplicate of the main faq???
I understand it's a bad idea and very unpopular (downvoted too) but closing as dupe of something totally unrelated... ?
@ShadowWizard Is there a way to see anonymous feedback? that might be nice for an OP.... if not for everyone else.

@Stijn I think it was too expensive on resources, at least on SO. On SO it times out to this day.
@Stijn maybe it's live data; so, it's a performance problem. #speculation
@ShadowWizard yeah just tried it but got "Oops! Something Bad Happened" :)

A: Post Feedback link is broken

Nick CraverThe way this is architected absolutely does not scale. It's also not something we want to put resources into fixing given opportunity cost and what it would take to refactor. We will be removing the link in the next build and removing the page and code later in the week. I'm sorry that answer ...

@canon not any css. SP2010 layout, multiple web parts zone in a random table with collspan and row span galore, td must have pixel fixed width/height. That css is the result of a pony desperation.
@Derpy you mean that CSS is required for SharePoint to function properly?
@ShadowWizard ....... this line. This EVIL line. At top... on the master page. Cannot remove, SP2010 does not "support" that...

@ShadowWizard with all its bug, missing css features support and a whole bag'o'fun
15:11
@Derpy so any SharePoint site must also support IE8, no matter what?
also only
@ShadowWizard nope. Sharepoint 2010 sites force the browser to run in IE8 compatibility mode.
unless you have a dupe I think this can stay.
not every user is a dev.
@rene yeah, the comment was meant to explain the downvotes.
I didn't downvote or voted to close
@Derpy that's... ... sad.

@rene nah, I would have just voted in such case. :)

15:30
:D Welcome @JasonC
stufc? Googling
Autocorrect incorrectly corrected one word and totally ignored another in the same sentence. It's like my phone is trolling me.
@JasonC Your mobile hates big fat fingers too
I was too distracted trying to keep grr from becoming "great".
15:31
Oh, and then there's Automobilecorrect
@JasonC "thank you, and have a grr day"?
@Shadow 1. Those topics have been discussed so much that it isn't worth any treatment beyond checking the faq at this point, and most importantly
2. The reasoning that each one of that posters privileges are the way they are are all in the faq, just short of a bulleted list. The topic has been discussed before and every answer is there, and every resulting discussion can be found from there as a good starting point. It is precisely the spirit of a dupe link as a sign post and as a reference to something that clearly addresses all underlying issues in the post.
To your point befor. I can't reply easily to specific keys on here
And also I'm just giving up though ncorrectly you'll just have to figure it out
@JasonC so according to this logic, you can close any question on any meta site as duplicate of that faq.
No it isn't black and white like that.
Closing a question as dupe of the main faq is.
15:33
@JasonC Which is exactly why you two disagree
If you don't like it, downvote. If it's off topic, close it as such.
This question can be closed as a dupe of the main faq. There is no "logic" involved there that immediately implies that other questions can get similar treatments. The topic of this particular post is done to death and is all there.
@JasonC it boils down to a simple feature request: let users vote and comment with 1 rep. That is it.
I did everything I was supposed to do. I downvoted, and i CVd for a reason I felt was appropriate. If you disagree, then dont vote the same as me. Any questions? :P
Totally valid request, popular or not.
@JasonC that's exactly what I did, and what I'll keep doing. :)
15:35
Then it's moot. So with that in mind: Hi
@JasonC Hi! Want ice cream?
I do. How are you going to get it to me?
UPS?
@ShadowWizard sadder - I discovered that my idea to implements hats is basically undoable due to browser restrictions.
@Derpy :(
@JasonC expect a knock on your door in 10... 9.... 8...
15:48
Nice. Thanks.
@JasonC my pleasure!
Wtf. He did not have ice cream. He only had really expensive cat food.
@JasonC for you, it's cat food. For the cats, it's ice cream.
So @Jason how are you these days? Found a new job?
16:07
@Derpy I've been half paying attention. Are you trying to add hats to a sharepoint site?
lol
@canon in case you're serious, @Derpy is trying to write some userscript that will allow users to wear hats even without any Winterbash. :)
no no... :)
@Undo You doubt me?
:3
@Undo heh, maybe he's listed here? ;)
@JasonC spying on a school?
16:30
@ShadowWizard the problem is not the hats, the problem is how to store the info about the selected hats so that other users can see your hat. Either you use an external server - and then you are best in moving ALL the logic there and just have an user script that queries the service and applies the hat overlay...
or if you want to build a script that has no "external dependencies" you are basically going to bang your head on the wall.
without an external source of hat placements info, you have just one option.
store it in the avatar. And that is lame. And basically impossible too.
Can work around the lame part.... but not the "it's basically impossible" thing.
Maybe the userscript could help you upload a custom avatar which would encode the hat selection in the image data
@canon that was the idea, but I have no way to get the data from the current user image.
well, no
because it's not in the current image
this would be a forward only deal
I'd assume
sorry, probably didn't explain well.
You can hide all sorts of crap in image data. I don't know how much SE messes with it when you upload, though. Conversion to lossy jpeg, etc.
16:41
the idea is to get your current avatar, make you select&place the hat and then create a new version of the avatar image with some exif data embedded. That, assuming imgur doesn't strip that (seem it keeps the original image, that is how I restored animated avatars with another userscript for example)
@Derpy imgur normally strips exif data, unless an exception was made for SO
@Stijn strange, I was of the idea the original file kept it BUT the resized version were stripped (and de-animated)
@Derpy maybe they keep some exif data then. Or maybe it has changed since imgur went live. reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/9tlwi/im_the_imgur_guy_ama/c0edps8
@Stijn possible. But as I said, no purpose to really check that now since I can't really use that option anyway.
Next option would be an external site and service to feed the userscript with. All hat selection would be done on the site, the script would just consume the data to place the hats. Still sub-optimal but the best you could do without being a part of Stack infrastructure.
Should be possible for an external site to consume the user data and user auth. I think there was an alternate chat site for stack exchange that did that - something with a name like... MIAU chat?
@ProgramFOX probably remembers it.

18:16
@Shadow lol @ the cat ice cream comment
No. I haven't found a new job. Actually I'm in a weird spot. I had enough savings to coast for a while and I've been trying to relax and not look yet.
The my cat got cancer, I found him in bad shape on the 1st. had surgery a few days ago. Went well. He's pulling through and doing well. But the bills hit over $10k. So now I'm in panic mode, lol.
I thought just once, once, maybe I could chill out, coast, not plan ahead for a little bit and relax. Lesson learned, heh.
That reminds me
I need to get some pet insurance
sorry about your cat :/
Yeah I always laughed at pet insurance too. But man, that stuff rivals human health care costs.
It's the lab work that's the craziest. It's nuts.
it's all the same type of crap they'd have to do for a human
we're all just fleshy bags of chemicals

Yeah. I never go to the doctor. But last year I had a headache for two weeks and the internet told me to go. So I did. I got one totally routine blood panel.
Where, in America? Our healthcare system is awful.
Insurance didn't cover it (mind boggling, you'd think they want to cover checkups to minimize their payouts by keeping clients healthy). I got a bill from the lab for 3000 freakin dollars.
Yeah. US. Highmark BCBS.
And even worse, I couldn't get out of it. I even went to the lab in person, and I wasn't even a jerk about it, lol. Nothing. I waited until it got sent to collections and managed to talk it down to 2000 with them.
I need to pretend my apartment is a hotel so I can get Gordon Ramsay to come give me a life makeover.

Hey all, just a question about etiquette. I've found the solution to my answer through some contributions from SO + some work on my own part. 19:53
@canon Yeah. Check out Hotel Hell. It's like Kitchen Nightmares, but with hotels.
@JasonC maybe we should ask Gordon to do the First Post queue?
@Derpy oh... thought you meant that to be client side only, for the user only. Well, having it show for others is indeed impossible without help from SE itself.
@canon SE does not touch or host the images, it's all handled by imgur.
@Derpy to "restore" animated avatar you just need to remove the "s=..." part from querysting... the original image is still animated.
@JasonC whoa... sorry to hear. Hope you got help from friends or family?
@canon there is such a thing??? lol.... wow... :)
@canon bag of bones.... good book. ;)
@JasonC and? What did the doctor(s) find?
@alexolut good! :)
@JasonC heh, I got family in the USA, living there for 30 years. Until few years ago, they used to fly all the way to Israel just for dental treatments (e.g. taking out a tooth) and it was still cheaper.

@ShadowWizard yes, it is about per-site meta

@Shadow Solid job. But for my immediate needs I'm gonna have to go back to freelancing. I hate the work but the money's great and I had enough ins to line up a few decent gigs in the next few weeks. It's sort of a necessary evil. But I don't want to get trapped in freelance world again I was so ready to get out.
My biggest ex client has a massive project coming up in London too, I am going to try to get in on that just to build up the bank account again. Plus it should be at least an interesting project. And he still doesn't have a proper replacement programmer, just a scripty Linux guy.
Except I know exactly what he needs and it's not a short term one-off project, so... I dunno.
I was able to charge about half the vet bills to this credit card I got for this, no interest for six months but then like an insane %30 APR after that, including those 6 months. So that helps give me some time, with good motivation to pay that off ASAP.
... because HAPPY NEW YEAR!
