@b_jonas there is one detail in that whole topic that should be clarified. Are the sirens a thousand years old?

@Derpy That is what a later reply giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=21571426 tries to address:
> My fanon on that is actually that the sirens went into a sort of magical hibernation. When they arrived, they quickly found out there was no Equestrian magic in this world and, in desperation, used their powers to put themselves into a sort of stasis. Then, after Sunset opened the portal and first came to the human world, they were awoken by the sudden burst of Equestrian magic.

@b_jonas so basically, Pinkie is one year younger than Fluttershy, who probably is the oldest of the mane six (or at least, the only one to use a different body model as a filly). Yet Cranky calls her "kid". Human Flash is old enough to drive a car, and Sunset should have been in the human world for at least three years (and Celestia only know where she lives and where her money comes from - did she sell some gemstones from Equestria??)
oh, and btw, according to the comics Starswirl sealed one of the two mirrors but not the one linked to the world the sirens where banished to.
in the meantime, the sirens would have been sleeping for a thousand years in a world while it was evolving around them. No one found them, but they suddenly awoke three years before EG 1 and where able to quickly adapt and disguise themselves as girls. Over those three years no one noticed anything, nor they tried any big move.
a little weird.

@Derpy What? Whose money?
@Derpy No, not really. The world was also sleeping in low power mode because the mirror realized it didn't have to bother with much of the worldbuilding while the Sirens are sleeping.
@Derpy During those three years, the sirens became more powerful, charged with power from other people's disagreements, but they weren't in Canterlot high.

@b_jonas well, she has to live somehow, or you think that she also sleeps in the library (or the gym, like one fan-comic suggested) ?

That doesn't count as "something big", but charging their power as preparation for when the opportunity came made sense for them.
@Derpy No, she has a bedroom in Canterlot High.

10:23 AM
@b_jonas nice theory, but in the comic she implies that at Christmas she doesn't return to Equestria, nor she does stay with some friend or something. She says she always was alone during the Holidays, that is why the other mane 5 decides to invite her in the EG annual special comic. Thinking about it, I seem to remember you even get a picture of Sunset in her bedroom - which seems to be located past the second star, and then straight till morning.... just near Scoot one.
anyway, should check that again.
It is possible that the school DOES have an attached campus for students to stay at.
which still leaves us with the "were the money came from" problem. :P

Mostly from the government, since it's a high school ran by the state, I think. But some of the students might be earning money already: Applejack is helping his family produce cider at the farm, Pinkie might be part-time in the bakery, Rarity is making dresses, Fluttershy might be working in the animal shelter, Twilight has a research scholarship or something.

10:46 AM
@b_jonas wasn't 'Shy a volunteer at the animal shelter?

@Derpy I was wondering that, but I think no, she was just trying to get other volunteers.
> Mm-hmm. This morning, I was passing out flyers for the animal shelter like I do every Wednesday. Canterlot's animal shelter needs more volunteers. "Won't you help an animal that can't help itself?"

11:03 AM
@b_jonas possible. Anyway, any money that she would be able to make out of the shelter will simply go into food. Pet food.

@Derpy Probably yes.

at least the alternate Angel bunny can't be annoying as the original one.

11:16 AM
Also, the hats are gone.
Let me check the final results. I think I have 13 hats.

@b_jonas be grateful, you got the moon one.

12:07 PM
@b_jonas didn't really try to get hats this year.
I am starting to get bored.
Every year the same.
- same errors done, same "soul selling carnival", same angry mob saying that hats are an incentive to bad quality and same ignored proposals
- same "most hat are discovered by day two" results, usually only the date-bound ones are left out (or the ones that didn't work correctly due to bugs or have really arbitrary triggers)
- same felling that hats trigger are made for power users, the "low rep ones can watch and cry" mindset that just reminds you it is not worth to support those small communities (go, rub some more salts on the wounds. At SharePoint we needed to be reminded that 10k tools are a distant chimera, that rep cap is a legend and so on)
- same felling that they are the first ones to be utterly scared at the idea somehone may think they are acting fun/child like...
- same felling it is just a yearly chore for some of them.
Thanks, but no... I am going for plan B

12:49 PM
But you get hats. You can put them on to your avatar, and it can expand way beyond the avatar and cover other elements (not that the SE web interface needs help for that).
> Rarity: A lovely new chapeau will cheer you up.

Sounds like Princess Celestia in S3.
