Word up!
Well, I just finished Site Point's 'The PHP Anthology'. It was alright, but the author made too many references to Zend and PEAR frameworks
I'm fine with using frameworks, but when I'm reading a book I really don't want to have to think about them
it makes it harder to understand the actual logic of what he is doing

Is it bad that I thought TDD stood for Taco Driven Development?
Yes
I shall now Shun You

I'm still shunning you!

MMMMmmmmmmmmmmmm, Tacos.............

U62
So... A Java programmer, a .NET programmer and a Ruby programmer walked into a bar...
unshun
This pub?
This better be funny..
This is a tavern...
While we have a bar, this is not a bar
But, we do have tacos!
That's no taco... it's a half-moon!
17:24
What?
I'm going to make myself a hamburger soon
Yeah, I'm frying some burgers right now too
Mmm, I could go for a fresh burger.
or for those of you who are still on strike against the letter 'h'
an 'amburger
Why whould yhou sthrike aghainst the honorable 'h'?
17:27
Ih Dhon't Khnow
If you try to pronounce that, you sound jewish.

But, nothing exploded!
That looks familiar.

out of curiosity -- is it too late to mention stackexchange.com 's question selection is rather horrible?
It's never too late.
I wonder what the selection algorithm is. I only visited that page once and then only briefly.
then I'll say stackexchange.com's question selection is rather horrible, they really should filter closed questions away at the very least
(besides, since when was SE about hot questions)
Both the top two questions are horrible
so this is where all the cool people are
it's about hard questions that get quick/good/correct/downvoted answers -- pick two
17:44
Crap, guys, the fuzz found us.
hey, can I hang out with you?
like, have fun and stuff?
(theoretically, in reality all the action happens on toughballs like how to add 2 and 3 with jquery)
but... but... I've got booze!
Isn't this entrapment?
'sides, we're in a tavern. Our man Chacha keeps us stocked.
17:47
(Serious aside: Congrats on the diamond, @balpha!)
tack så mycket
I don't know what that means, but... I apologize for the delay?
that's "thanks so much" in swedish
17:50
You're swedish?
I have one Swedish teacher, whom I visit extremely infrequently: that one wall at IKEA.
no, I'm German
just know a little swedish
Yeah? What's his name?
IKEA people in Germany don't know swedish though
you can really confuse them if you pronounce the furniture names correctly
17:52
Ha.
(Hå?)
No, that would probably be "Ha" :)
18:04
Remember August 5, 2010? Man, did we have our fill of bread and wine on that day.

"se-question-list"?
@pop you're old
Wait .. @balpha Just got his diamond?
I know, not many of us were around back then.
18:08
no, I got my diamond on the day I got my double-double-0-7 number
Can you make it so that if we type the phrase: "FU STUPID DOTTED LINE", that it sets a cookie to stop showing us the dotted line?
sure, I can do that
but I'm on vacation
@Chacha102, there's a way to stop the dotted line already.
instant bug report: if you click edit for meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/59962/… you get intended formatting in the preview pane
@rchern How?
18:16
window.setInterval(function(){$(".catchup-marker").removeClass("catchup-marker catchup-marker-1 catchup-marker-2 catchup-marker-3");}, 1000);
Don't change windows.
Ever.
I'd make a post about it but I'm on a rush now
later
May be a dupe. I'll look.
Perhaps this?

Q: Adjacent lists in WMD swallowed into a single list

eyelidlessnessObviously, there not being a way to specify the end of a list, and multiple line breaks making list item contents paragraphs, the only way to have adjacent lists is to alternate between ordered and unordered lists. 1. ordered list item - unordered list item The above text outputs: <ol>...

Im back
that was a good burger
cleaned the sinuses
Jealous.
18:27
I need books to read
what kind of books?
catch 22
cat's cradle
catcher in the rye
Programming, Marketing, Journalism, Photography, non-fiction
oh.
Closed as subjective and argumentative!
18:27
Still read those anyway.
'ready read catcher in the rye
stupid school
status-booksrejected
All the President's Men... the Associated Press Stylebook... can't think of other J books, actually.
I've read Code Complete 2, Don't Make Me Think, The Pragmatic Programmer, Elements of Style, Design Patterns (Gang of 4), Javascript The Good Parts, The World is Flat, Hot Flat and Crowded, Tribes, Purple Cow, Permission Marketing, The PHP Anthology, Relevance, and Dogbert's Top Secret Guide to Management
Dang, that wasn't the one that I was thinking of, but still a damned good book
Speaking of "made to stick":
18:55
Is it dead in here now?
I think I killed it with my links...or maybe it was @Lasse ;)
No, it was George. I flip back here, see a wall of text, and flip back out
who's george?
That'd be me.
He's referring to the amazon links.
19:08
Yeah, it was a fascinating read though.
And, with that I'm out. Gotta go visit the GF in our new town. I'll likely be on later.
It helped me literally see the world in a new way
@devinb Yah, great books. But the amazon oneboxing is a bit huge.
@Shog9 is flipping out?
repeatedly

Q: What feature(s) would you like to see added to your favorite web app.?

IsaacFor me it would be control over privacy/my own data. So more privacy controls. I don't use twitter, facebook, gmail, etc. actively because I don't feel that I have control over the data I put on their servers. The privacy issue is huge and we could start a whole new discussion on that thread, b...

so glad I didn't sign up for that site
mind-reading.
No wait. That could go very bad, very fast.
19:54
boo
yikes, you scared me
so yeah, Lance Roberts is Rich B
I mean, think about it: "Fairbanks, AK" - like that isn't a made-up place
obviously, Rich got bored and created "Lance" to have some fun with
Anyway, anyone here play StarCraft 2 and would like a 2vsAI game?
@Shog I thought that Geoffrey Chetwood was Lance Roberts.
how can Lance Roberts ASLO be Rich B?
ah, your suspicion is well founded!
in truth, there are probably half a dozen users on SO and Meta who are actually just Rich B
haven't you ever noticed how, during certain times of day, Meta gets really, really dull?
folks still posting stuff, but it's all kinda bland... as though it were someone talking to himself
... well, my theory is, that's exactly what's happening
In fact, I'm not entirely convinced that Rich himself isn't simply one of Atwood's alter-egos
created to be a lightning rod, an ultra-visible example to draw ire away from all the other users attempting to edit/vote
20:04
A valid hypothesis.
In fact, @shog9, I'll go further than that. I'm going to say that it is 100% certainly true.
I believe Jeff actually confirmed this
Where does Evan fit into this?
Does Evan fit into anything?
Ah, here we are:

A: Sockpuppet admission...

Jeff AtwoodI admire your honesty in coming forward on such a difficult topic. Be strong! Given your bravery, I feel compelled to admit that I've also had a sockpuppet account for years. I cleverly changed the name so nobody would suss it out, but I think the jig is up.

When I get the time, yes :)
20:07
I'm almost positive that Evan is trolling the numerous, "Let's emphasize the game/socialization aspects of SO and forget all this Q&A crap" users who periodically show up on Meta after spending days and even hours learning how to use the site
he makes the same suggestions, but presents them so badly that even the folks who might have supported them recoil
Rich/Jeff aren't that clever
I'm not even sure Welbog could pull that off
At least Evan's trolls are entertaining for the first 2 or 3 you see
gets old pretty quickly after that
He's got a pretty high Downvote Ratio
Shame on you Jeff!
He also has the first question ever :)
@Shog, that's the thing about Evan. He cloaks reasonable suggestions (things I would downvote though) and he adds a thick layer of ridiculous accusations and random gibberish.
At that point, it become hard for me to extract the reasonable question and respond to it.
Evan has been doing a great job of entertaining me lately...
20:16
I subscribe to his user feed in Google Reader
they mean Devin. I'm awesome.
whoops "devinb"
must maintain cloak of secrecy. no one must know my true name.
@devinb you are quite the shut-in, your profile is sooo boring!
I'm from the Canada
Sending informations to the internet is costed at a character by character basis. So I try to be
pithy.
@devinb we all know that's not true...
20:23
Which part? Canada? Charged by 1/0? Pithy?
who starred that!!
:p
Pithy, adj.,
1. Precisely meaningful; forceful and brief
I'm very short.
Does that count?
not unless you need a stepladder to type
I just boost up the chair at my desk.
There was an interesting data explorer query. It had "points per character"
I didn't fare all that well.
ah, I remember that one
20:28
It haunts me.
Haha, I do pretty well at that.

1 hour later…

Hello All
hai hai hai, chacha
Hows it going?
