This is… wrong.
It's to leverage SOP, which is pretty much the opposite of what was said.
SO really doesn't know anything about frontend.
user315433
Yeah, but at least they know to avoid the word leverage.
It's to use SOP. Whatever.

@zaq well, I guess Quora wins on that particular metric then

Possibly, because on SE such questions often end up deleted.

@ShadowWizard I did vote on that one. I was the first vote. Shame on you!

@Bart huh! So it means @rene didn't vote... assumed he did vote before asking others to do that. How rude! :P
What can I tell you. Dutch people ...

Luckily @random came for the rescue... (yeah, check if he's pingable, everyone... ;))
@zaq what do you mean? What is the spam?
It wasn't closed when I requested the delete votes. I assumed it would be once you got here ... but yeah ... the Dutch ...
09:45
@rene the Flying Bartman?

Yes, that

@ShadowWizard - have you got a minute? Need someone for a test.
12:06
@Derpy kind of... what test?
simple....
go to the Sugarcube for a second.
@ShadowWizard you will find two links there. Just check if both of them take you to the same page. And no, it is not an attempt at Amped Up, it is something I noticed while posting a question there. May have found a "bug"
hmm... think it was "found" before, maybe by @zaq not sure.
@ShadowWizard will have to check.
still in the 6-8 something to fix period I assume...

Here it's 10C, and considered cold. :D
(average is around 15 for this time of year)
@Magisch Maybe Hell will freeze again?
;)
one around 20° N , the other probably somewhere at 60° N...
@Derpy what's the "N"?
north
around Cancer.
I was talking about latitude, based on the temperatures ye claimed :P
12:39
lol
Interesting enough, Hell is actually in 42° N
Is this just a coincidence? ;)
@ShadowWizard Free to to think that the meaning of life is that we will all go to hell, but I will stick to the MLP based interpretation.
266 total population. LOL
@Derpy which is?
@ShadowWizard you hoped for 666?
@Derpy nah, that would have been too awesome. :D
(and mayor named Satan... ;))
@ShadowWizard which later changes his name to Hercule?
12:49
:)
@ShadowWizard I may have referenced that one once in the den. If you know the Guide, and the radio play it was based upon, you will know that is strongly hinted that the question and the answers refereed to something that would make people finally happy.
18
Q: In The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, does the answer the Earth was built for refer to the girl?

ResistanceIsUselessI'm listening to the radio version of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and earlier it was mentioned that a girl on Earth discovered something that will make everything alright, and before she could tell anyone over the telephone about it, the Earth blew up. Later, Deep Thought mentions that ...

@Derpy yeah, but it never said how it would make them happy. :)
> And then, one Thursday, nearly two thousand years after one man had been nailed to a tree for saying how great it would be to be nice to people for a change, a girl sitting on her own in a small cafe in Rickmansworth suddenly realized what it was that had been going wrong all this time, and she finally knew how the world could be made a good and happy place. This time it was right, it would work, and no one would have to get nailed to anything.
Twilight cutie mark is a set of 7 six-pointed stars. Exactly 42 points. That one is also regarded as the symbol of "friendship" (and harmony). Take your conclusions.
Don't know if it was intentional.
I like to think it was an improbable coincidence.
that said...
they probably noticed at some point...
13:05
@Derpy the answer is... love and friendship. :-)
Now to convince the world leaders, and everything will be good in the world. :D
@ShadowWizard aim for something more probable. Like a magical red gate to a world full of candy colored ponies to open up in the circle of rocks in the garden behind your house on a stormy night.

I assume I, as in not being a moderator, can only know if a tag is blacklisted by either sticking it on a question and post it or do a tag edit?
@rene Think so
You could probably also just ask
user315433
Yes. (Or by asking a moderator.) The blacklisting regex is visible to them (and is editable by SE employees)
@Undo Ok, is on SO blacklisted?
@zaq ? is it a regex ... :-s
@rene a bunch of regexes, actually
@rene I see no evidence of it being blacklisted

1 Universal Match anything, anywhere we check for it
2 PostBody Match any part of post body text

6 Comment Match any part of comments
7 Intrinsic Tag Match any part of a tag that embodies a site's main topic, e.g. [chess] on chess.se.com
@Telkitty Jeremy Banks? But maybe he's the arch enemy of 1337 hackers?
user315433
Nice. But the tag warning table is something separate, then?
user315433
17:40
Like SQL or regex.
@ShadowWizard gone
same table. Last column - MatchAction - is either Block or Warn
@Undo yeah... This system has been bolted onto over the years, but hasn't seen much love
user315433
So it is possible to warn about comments without blocking them?
@JonEricson I think that Jeremy Banks guy ticked the renew every year when he submitted his findings ...
@zaq in theory, sure
In practice, there's nothing wired up there
so you'd never see the warning
Anonymous
17:43
@Telkitty I don't think we have any truly 1337 people like you'll find on Security.SE or Crypto.SE, but there are a lot of security-conscious people.
since the comment field never loses focus under normal circumstances, making that work would be interesting
user315433
Block the first attempt (explaining why); if they try again, let it post.
user315433
Might be too much fuss over comments.
Probably. I requested that for tags 'bout two months ago; blocked pending design.
UI changes tend to be extremely expensive, so... Something's gotta be on fire.
I'd put "enable blacklists on docs drafts" first
17:49
yep
user315433
> FlagContent Match the comment when flagging a post
user315433
That's about flagging a comment, not a post, right?
user315433
Auto-nuking for posts based on a regex would be interesting.
Probably 'other' flag
Yeah, it's for "other" flags: can block or warn the flagger
Someone was working on analyzing patterns in Other flags a while back, so I'd hoped to use that to reduce the number of pointless flags on SO
user315433
17:51
Oh, I thought it was about the content of comments that are being flagged. That regex must be elsewhere, then.
Yup, universal blacklists are enabled on flags too
@zaq yeah; that one's special
@Shog9 If you're talking about what I was doing, I couldn't find a way to get both volume and accuracy at the same time with simple regexes
yeah, that's often the problem
The more advanced approaches got to ~85%, but I couldn't push much past that. And they were expensive
(still cool, though)
user315433
17:53
A flag by a low rep user on a negatively scored post, matching "downvote"?
that's the big achilles heel of the blacklist functionality: no support for secondary conditions.
So, can't limit it to a specific type of post, or post state, or a reputation level.
Those could potentially improve accuracy considerably
Once we get Andy in there we won't have to handle flags anyway, so it's kinda a moot point.
six months ago, added this to generate a warning for flags: (?=^.{1,150}$)(\W|^)(plz|pls|please help|urgent help)(\W|$)

not exactly changing the world

You might have some success catching the please-delete flags, but it'd be a lot easier if we could add a "flagged by owner" condition.
Also, still low volume

The warnings shown when "\byour?\b" is matched in question title probably lead in false positives.

user315433
in Mos Eisley on The Stack Exchange Network Chat, yesterday, by Shog9
(we're also on about year 6 of the most common reason for declining NAA flags being "flags are not a super downvote"; worded more politely of course)
user315433
An idea: if reviewers are split on an NAA/VLQ flag (some are for and some against), instead of generating a mod flag, Community downvotes the post and leaves it at that (flags are marked disputed). I think that on SO this would be the correct action most of the time, the answer is probably try {code block}.
@zaq Right now we're actually keeping up with the NAA inflow, but once we fall behind that sounds like a great idea
user315433
To my knowledge, the post will still be reviewed by a mod if someone flags it again, after it went through review.
There are only 6 NAA flags shown in the sidebar for us, but we can still see all 19 active.

My Chem teacher said the velocity of ideal gas particles are normally distributed.
First, it's chi, and second, it's speed.
But whatever, ya know, chemistry is just rounded-off physics.
@zaq Thanks
user315433
19:03
@bjb568 Hmm... could the velocity vector be normally distributed, after all? Considering that chi is the sum of squares of independent normals?
user315433
But doesn't quite work, because the sum of squares of components of the velocity is the speed squared, and the chi distribution is for speed itself. Odd.
user315433
The components can probably be considered independent; if we imagine the gas being in a rectangular box, the projection on each coordinate is independent of what goes on with the other ones.
user315433
So what's the correct distribution of the velocity vector?
user315433
@bjb568 Looks like the teacher is right; the velocity is normal. Reason being that the Gaussian is the essentially unique function f such that f(x)f(y)f(z) is radially symmetric. Neat.
user315433
And the rest checks out: speed^2 is the sum of squares of independent normals, so it follows chi-squared. The speed itself follows its less well known sibling chi, aka Maxwell–Boltzmann distribution.
