Jaydles Update (April 19, 2016): This change is now live. You can view the updated Terms of Service here, or read about them below. tl;dr: We’re planning to make some changes to our Terms of Service to stop companies from scraping profile information from multiple websites and spamming users. @Bart if you have a few spare minutes between compiles can reject spam here?

@rene first already deleted, for some reason @Bart didn't vote on the second...
> There are currently no pending items to review; please check back later.

yeah, they come in bursts
I have spend 60 reject votes
30 from my main account and 30 from my sock

I wonder what is the percent of spam in Documentation drafts? IMO looks like 80% and more.
Simple rate limit will greatly reduce it.
(That last spammer did something like 10 spam drafts in minute)

2:22 PM
@ShadowWizard Yeah I don't understand why they haven't done it yet, it's been going on for a month
I can understand that they can't come up with a full solution in that time, but a bandaid fix should be possible

I also wonder why there and not in suggested edits?
Maybe it's easier to automate?

suggested edits gets a TON of spam
but a tremendous amount is rejected automatically, and feeds spamram when it does...
suggested edits are essentially one big honeypot for spammers
@rene it's running now
just destroying users

@Shog9 so.... why not take this same system and apply on documentation drafts?

6 to 8 weeks ...

but.. it already exists.. ?

cyclic dependency error

haha
@Oded can surely solve this ;)

Well, I once had to solve that in my own stuff. After a day I moved all code into one project ... what a mess ...

wow... poor @rene
But moving all to one project is... ... not ideal. :)

@ShadowWizard yeah, that needs to happen

Why not just create another project, just for whatever is the dependency, and reference it in the other two?
@Shog9 what's stalling it? Technical problem?

2:36 PM
@ShadowWizard yeah, but I had some generic stuff that exhibited vague needs to stay together. But it really was a bad marriage in the first place ...

@rene oh well, worse things can happen... ;)

sure

indeed

@ShadowWizard let's go with "holidays"

Now time to eat wafer rolls... yum yum :D

2:44 PM
and the fact that no one else has actually laid eyes on these scripts that I'm running, and hence aren't motivated by abject terror

@Shog9 sure, but it's going for months, isn't it? Personally I don't really care as I'm not active on Documentation, but looks like others do. :)

@ShadowWizard didn't get very bad until a few weeks ago
by which time holidays were well underway

@Shog9 speaking of which, aren't you still holiday-ing today? :)

we did make a few changes (rate-limiting and blacklisting), but not universal (obvs); spamram will take longer.
@bluefeet yeah; I'm up early because I'd scheduled my car for repairs only to realize that it's a holiday still
so had to reschedule for tomorrow

@Shog9 ugh, sorry. That stinks

2:48 PM
before I had a guy with a rental car waiting for me in a remote parking lot

@Shog9 fair enough... and @rene you can call me as well when those bursts hit, I'm not active in Documentation but spam is spam, and I'll always gladly help nuking it. :)
@Shog9 don't you get a car from Stack Exchange?

pfft

In my place most hi tech companies give cars to the employees as part of the benefits. ;)

ain't that kind of job, thank goodness
job-wise, I never have to leave the house
company does pay for internet

@Shog9 oh, that's neat

2:51 PM
...which reminds me, I need to call Comcast today, since they felt it necessary to arbitrarily increase my bill by $25/mo

But those who work in the office do get a car? @Shog

$100 per month for internet?? That's insane

heh, I pay about $80 I think, plus more for TV
which I would drop in a heartbeat if my wife didn't enjoy Nat Geographic so much

Here we pay $100 for TV+internet+ISP+telephone (not cellular)
cellular cost around $20 more
(less if you don't care to have data limit)

2:54 PM
yeah, that combo was running me about $150/mo until last month

So they raised it to $175?

yep

If it's a combo, how can you tell SE how much to give you back?

they have published rates, but SE just reimburses 100/mo for "use of home office"
used to have to expense it, which was a bit of a pain
thank New York's crazy taxes for making it easier

that's... really expensive, no?

2:57 PM
@ShadowWizard at least you have a flat mobile internet option

@Shog9 nice... here for those without a car, that's about the same money we get as "travel expenses".
(e.g. to pay back buses)
@Stijn New York is the most expensive city in the world I think, or close to it.

not here. The only ones that claims to be "flat rate" actually have monthly bandwidth limits too. Only difference is that if you go over the limits instead of paying you simply get slower up/down speeds....
like.... 56k slow.

@Derpy yeah, but we got like 5 companies, with 5 options in each... it's hard to choose. :)
@Derpy that sucks... not sure what happens here.
(never went over the limit)

the mighty usefulness of a full hd smarthphone - watch all your movies on the go with ultra fast 4g speed.....

@Derpy cool, does your modem also start making those analog dial-up sounds?

3:01 PM
rofl
Sad thing is, I still remember that sound. I can't forget it. :P

but please do it while you are connected to a wi-fi network because you only get 3gb month.

@ShadowWizard you had to so you could hear if the modem was negotiating a lower speed and if so, hang-up and dial again, hoping for a better quality route through the phone network this time ...

you are welcome

So, how do I disable these winter hates?
There it is. ^

@Cerbrus Why not put it in Cerberus? lol
The great E drought of 2017.

3:30 PM
to quote E. Roivas...
> Like it or not, believe it or not as you will. Your perceptions will not change reality, but simply colour it.

That's a risky first initial in these troubled times.

@Derpy true, by @bluefeet, but I believe Yvette asked to delete it, looks like she didn't like the downvotes.

@rene ok, script now rejects proposed changes and destroys their authors.

@ShadowWizard probably, but that just adds another color to the painting.
a painting that lacks pink but also includes a nice array of shades of black.

@Derpy and blue
Honestly though, I think "Winterbash 2016 Hats Archive" would make a decent chat room, no need for MSE question for that.
I tried doing that in 2015, didn't really work
Started with a couple, nobody else joined
so.... meh.

3:44 PM
check it fast, because I am going to delete it since it didn't work out.

@Shog9 wonderful! You run that full time now?

@Derpy you mean register? Not sure, I'm not hunting for hats this year. Wearing what I get, but not actively trying to get them. :)
Anyway... @Shog9 I've just noticed I can onebox a deleted chat room, meaning most users who will click the link will get to a Page Not Found. Is this a bug or by design?
let's try a message from the room...
heh

4:01 PM
@ShadowWizard will be honest. The only one I really like the design of is the Hatter one - and that is mostly because of the character in the movie.

4:16 PM
@Derpy and you got that hat?

@ShadowWizard no. Not really going to try to get a question posted at the required time. And that is, assuming that the secret hat list lists the correct trigger in the first place

4:36 PM
hmm....

@rene it'll run until I close the tab or get logged out
@ShadowWizard most chat permission checks operate on the author, so if you have access to the room then that makes sense.

5:00 PM
Today's xkcd comic (Appliance Repair):

5:20 PM
@Shog9 but for posts and comments it was changed a while ago.

@ShadowWizard posts & comments are main-site; no access to deleted stuff from chat period.

!!/alive?

@Undo plz send teh coffee

!!/reboot

Goodbye, cruel world

5:52 PM
@Shog9 hmm... there's some sense in this. So, by design.

Q: Does Java have a "private protected" keyword?

Mark YisriSome references I have seen refer to a keyword in Java called private protected (both words together): private protected someMethod() { } One of the pages I found referring to this is here. My school lesson also referred to this keyword (and said it exists). Using it, however, results in an e...

Q: Which answer do I accept if I have multiple correct answers?

Dan GoldsteinI asked a question that turned out to have multiple correct answers. How do I pick between them to determine which to accept? Edit: All of the answers were different. They were not the same answer given multiple times. Here is the question.

Use a mac.

user315433
Many more things could go wrong with that.

11:41 PM
But will they?

user315433
They won't, because I'm not going to use a mac.

What OS do you use?

user315433
Windows at work, Chrome OS at home, Ubuntu remotely on AWS

So basically everything but Mac

You use a browser as an OS?
bleh
