@hichris123 I was thinking of running ... I mean the worst that could happen is that I loose horribly in the primary, but 5k rep seems a tad low for being a candidate. What do you think, hichris?
@Telkitty NSFW! :P
@Magisch huh? Running for mod election on SO?
The worst that could happen is that I loose
and I've been spending around 95% of my SO time on moderation, anyways

But since Trump is going to win, I'd say anyone can do anything, no matter how crazy it sounds in the beginning.
I've been more active on meta (answering & asking) then on the main site by a long shot, even.
@ShadowWizard Even failure is a good learning experience
@Magisch not for everyone, but yeah... that's how it should be.

@Magisch Hmm, I see. You did run for RO in SOCVR and you weren't selected in the end. You might get hold of one of the RO's privately and check if they have any feedback for you. I personally think you can be a mod but it is a bit (too) early. My advice would be to wait another year.
@rene You can run more then once
If anything I figure it'll be a great learning experience to deal with the pressure of being under intense scrutiny
You'll become the guy that always runs for mod ...
I have to run. Don't be disappointed by my response. I'm just an harsh flower now and then.

It doesn't look that big in terms of data... there are 5M questions with 2+ answers, and one only has to consider the users that answered one of those.
@AaronHall "Of interest" is subjective. Part of the fun is obscure people turning out to be related to celebrities via some non-obvious routes. My Erdős number (the math equivalent of Bacon degrees) is 3, which I found interesting enough to remember...
@zaq Because not everyone enjoys answering Microsoft questions. :)
In math, it seems unlikely that an algebraist should be connected to, say, a differential geometer, but they usually are (unless one is a recluse writing solo-authored papers all the time), and the connecting chain turns out to have some weird interdisciplinary stuff...

SO election (nomination period) begins the day before U.S. presidential election...
SE is rigging the election!
And in last year's SO election, one of nomination speeches was MAKE STACK OVERFLOW GREAT AGAIN. Remember who was it?
What's most disturbing is that it was a whole year ago...
Answer: the candidate was Wooble, and the nomination was withdrawn by Shog as a non-serious one.
6:33 PM
Which raises another question: where is Wooble now? User list search: no hits. Name change?
@zaq -1 not orange enough to make SO great again
Mar 12 '15 at 14:58, by user259867
For a long time, Wooble led SO in the number of downvotes. But this is about to change... Wooble has 23,499 downvotes, while Quentin has 23,498 and is a much more active voter currently.
And it did change, in a major way. Quentin is up to 36,336; the user formerly known as Wooble is at 23,833
But the new leader is Peter Mortensen, more than 41000 downvotes.
6:42 PM
Maybe he got sick of poor grammar everywhere.
Or incorrect versions of ''Stack Overflow''.
He does have more edits than downvotes, 44,587 posts edited.
It's not "StackOvEr flow"?
Including, but not limited to, ''StackOverflow''.
@Andy No, it changed since yesterday.
Go to sleep one night and see what happens?
6:43 PM
Which means he's the SO leader by the min(Edits, Downvotes) statistic that I sometimes used to quickly sort mod candidates (though I don't use it nowadays).
Peter for a mod!
[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Bad keyword in body: I cannot up my vagrant+rails by ito2307ht on superuser.com
@zaq Wait, wouldn't most candidates in smaller sites have more edits than downvotes?
Having more edits than downvotes on SO and larger sites has a different meaning than in small sites.
@M.A.R. It varies a lot. See Mechanics for example: horizontal axis is Edits, vertical Downvotes.
I wonder where I lied in that chart thingy.
6:52 PM
That chart was easier to read than the Mechanics one.
Not bad, not bad.
Hey, why is my circle smaller?
I plan to keep the same structure for upcoming SO election: Edits = x, Downvotes = y, Reviews = color, Candidate Score = size.
Can't fit more than four dimensions, really...
I downvote much more these days.
I guess I'll be catching up real soon.
I used to not downvote homework crap, 'cause well, why bother adding mine when the post would get deleted with five or six downvotes?
6:56 PM
I'm hoping this gets updated this election
Would be nice to use all those features, and then pick a 2-d projection that maximizes separation between mods and non-mods. But one would need a comparable non-mod group: including all SO users would be problematic (size disparity). Maybe unsuccessful candidates...
Some things, like meta post counts, are misleading for existing mods because they've been affected by the fact of them being a mod.
Unsuccessful candidates could work, but I think you'd need the data at the time of the election. Getting the historical data for each of the features isn't possible.
@zaq Make Stack Overflow GREA... er, GRAmmatically correct again!! :-)
Alas, it never really was... even in the early days of giant S.

A: Why don't we develop immunity against common cold?

TheNegativei have succeeded to become resistant to it by 1- cutting off from all medications and doctors 2- trying to let the body solve infection problems ( mainly folliculitis and teeth infections ). 3- doing meditations that cause migraine and increase body stress. before that i was catching cold at leas...

Some unconventional ideas here... "meditations that cause migraine and increase body stress"
Haha! Maybe he meant mediCations?

Has the number 2,000 stayed the same over all these years?

I have a general S.E. question about DownVoting. When i DV (DownVote), i get -1 and the guy gets -2, right? Do DVs often stop at -3 because beyond that, the numbers (-1, -2) change ?
@HizHa They don't. But the questions that have score -4 or less do not appear on the home page. So you see them less often.
on an answer, yes
( But the questions that have score -4 or less do not appear on the home page. So you see them less often. ) <--- That makes sense. Thank you .
I'm somewhat new to S.E. -- If I wanted to talk to someone about abuse / bad behavior by moderators and the old-timers (hardened regulars) of a site, how would I do that?
On reddit, usually.
9:28 PM
@HizHa very carefully, you don't want to make me angry
@HizHa Question is: to whom do you want to talk about it? To SE employees? To another mod? To another old timer?
@HizHa try a search on MSE: meta.stackexchange.com/search?q=abuse+moderators and see which ones did work and which didn't
Employees are reachable via "contact us" link at the bottom of every page. Moderators are reachable via "flag" link under every post. Old-timers are reachable on meta.
Everyone else is reachable on reddit.
Thank you for the responses. I'll try searching on MSE. I had no idea that reddit was somehow related or connected.

I'll also try reaching out to the most approachable (least arrogant) of the moderators one more time.
9:33 PM
Reddit is not connected to SE in any way. It's just a place to vent, if you're looking for one.
@HizHa hmm, keep in mind that you might be misunderstanding the stuff in the help center. Calling something abuse (or least arrogant) are not good starts for a constructive conversation, at least the ones that I saw and participated in
Wonder what the subject of this presentation was...
@HizHa yes, I already expected you to go down that route. Please read this example. I close your questions because they need to be improved. I never call you moron, your question is the problem and my close vote is an invitation to you to improve your post on what is lacking.
Just notice the score on that meta question

@ShadowWizard yeah yeah yeah, I know, OK

@HizHa you mean people complaining about SE?
@HizHa a specific site meta might work as well but those posts normally don't last long. But if that makes you feel better
@ShadowWizard No, a place to vent for them
@zaq bots now offer bounties? Nice.
there 's a SE site for [movies and TV shows] -- where the moderator (s) are hyper- anal about 1. splitting related questions into different pages/threads, and about 2. not including any "unnecessary" comments about the TV show or movie.

--- it 's really weird, the Spartan / draconian attitude as if talking about theology or something.

I was later surprised to learn that the main culprit ( Napoleon Wilson ) is actually a chatty guy in the chat room.
