@zaq Ops covers rather a broad range of different departments here; everything from building security to what would be IT many places.
...though you may have been referring to social status, which I can't really speak to.

A new twist on "require comments with downvotes": require answers with downvotes. One can't downvote more than 5x their number of answers.

Consider only the users with 5+ answers and 50+ downvotes. There are about 19000 of them on SO. Of them, 723 have downvoted > 10 times more than they answered. The histogram is below, log-base-10 scale. There's one outlier with 18275 downvotes vs 8 answers.

(Revisited the data to check who the outlier was; turns out it's @Jamal.)

@Bart hehe, I remember it used to happen in EE (can't say the full name or Shog will burninate me ;)) but there was a trick to overcome this, via Google.
(i.e. if you arrived from Google search results, it showed the answers)
@Bart I keep thinking about compiling code without a compiler, and I can come up with zero reasons why it wouldn't be an acceptable question on lh. It's kinda funny.
How can I check if there is electricity in a power socket without a tester or any other specialized tools?
Note: The method should not involve the destruction of the socket or my whole power supply!
Use your tongue. If you are found dead by someone with a smoking tongue on the opposite side of the room. Then you have proof that the outlet was live. :) — resident_hereticSep 13 at 3:30
@ShadowWizard I mean, if they're looking for dirt on me, there are a number of other ways they can find that on me, and I doubt I'm such a big target for people that they want to get dirt on me
@Derpy That 3rd panel is one of the best single panels of XKCD this year
Ah... I couldn't stay away from the tavern forever. I've tried reddit, forums, class discussion groups, and Slack, but I just can't leave StackExchange. :P

What gets them excited, anyway? Besides +10 or +15 rep...
