goto the CU on day 0, borrow the max, buy as much sushizushi as possible in the 400k-750k range, fill in the gaps with 10k-15k sashimi/maki/inari (in that order) and sell on the next stop (tokyo tends to pay out higher)
For the third time, quoting popular pop references get me flag suspended from chat. I'm sorry if "I'm on a boat" is too awesome for your delicate eyes. That won't stop me from quoting it.
Please stop using the dictionary and start using the brain.

When I clicked "Ask Question" the edit title appears, but when I tried to edit a question the edit toolbar just doesn't appear at all.

I'm using willRotateToInterfaceOrientation to swap views when my iPad rotates. If I have a modal view or an alert view open when my device rotates and swaps views, the view swaps and the alert disappears and does not reappear, even if the alert is "presented" again later.

So I've got ratings for items by users in a mysql database, and I was wondering whats the best way to check if a list of items has rated by a user.
I could pull all the items a user has ever rated in a single query and then go through that set looking for items in my list.
The other way would b...
I'm a developer with DBA experience.

When I first committed to DBA, it was generically named as "Databases". Now that we have the private beta up and running - what questions are allowed in here ?
The site name indicates that the questions allowed are more from an database administration point of view - which would mean most of th...

When I go to a per-site meta without visiting the parent site (and thus being auto-logged-in there), I am not automatically logged-in. Would it be possible to do this?
This could be useful if you were linked to a meta topic from MSO and want to comment, and thus haven't gone through the parent ...
According to the B&N website, mine has a "Teen Book Club" that meets at 1PM on Thursdays. Wouldn't all teens be in school at 1PM on Thursdays...by law?
Maybe it's secretly a Twilight book club for middle-aged women.
Anyway, I'm headed there since I don't want to be home all day.
Proposed Q&A site for the current cstheory site is for research on theoretical computer science only. This site would be a general site for computer science and theory for professionals, undergraduates and enthusiasts alike. (And hence *not* a duplicate of cstheory).
@PopularDemand that's going a bit far. Maybe in 20, 30 years....
@MichaelMrozek true, and I'm sure sharing a site with people who think like that is no fun at all. But on the other hand, I can kind of understand... They don't want to be swamped with tons of newbie questions, that is a somewhat valid motive
If people think it's bad now trying to figure out which site a question belongs on, wait until we have the crossproduct of sites for every topic with sites for every skill level
@Pekka Indeed, I grow more convinced with each passing day that the x-factor of SO's success was the fact that the community was seeded with Joel on Software and Coding Horror readers.
@Pekka much better question, but as I recall it was by a) being stupid simple to use in the face of the competition, and b) being open to newbs coming and asking questions
I think to myself every few days that we need to find similar blogs or existing communities for other SE sites to symbiotically pair up with, but I can never think of the right way to make it happen.
@PopularDemand so what you need then is a similar group of pleebs for the other sites. Which generally means a group of people that aren't computer enthusiasts as a general rule?
@drachenstern Actually, I think we need similar groups of experts. Find a place where people who are good at X already congregate, and introduce them to the SE model somehow.
Their enthusiasm -- or lack thereof -- towards computers shouldn't matter.
@PopularDemand I meant enthusiasm loosely. My wife is not a computer enthusiast, but she uses it all day every day. Introducing her to a new website, whether she has interest or not, is trivial.
My mother, on the other hand, eschewed all things digital outside of Excel until she opened her own business, and only in the past 4 months did she sign up for anything more than a basic email service (she's finally on Facebook, for instance).
While she would have plenty of positive insight for OnStartups (having launched two successful businesses from scratch in the past) ... getting her to the site would take more know-how than I have
(assuming the simplistic model that OnStartups doesn't have to be about IPO oriented tech-savvy companies trying to corner the next .COM bubble)
@drachenstern Oh, okay, I see what you mean. In that case, we just need younger people. Computer enthusiasm seems to correlate with age groups; I'm not convinced that it correlates with expertise in other fields.
but how many other groups live and die by the internet besides activists and computer/IT people?
You're not going to find the real experts (like my mom and startups or my dad and DIY - he's a general contractor) to get them on the site in the first place. However, people like Jon Skeet are going to be found on the internet. Because that's their primary place to exist. My dad's is in the workshop across the road from his house.
@drachenstern I refuse to believe "You're not going to find the real experts" without some proof. We don't need all the experts, just some of them. And we don't need to cover every topic, just some of them. I could see it being easier to find existing communities based on hobbies (gardening, cooking) than on professions (plumbing, medicine), though.
@PopularDemand that's my point right there. You're not going to find subject matter experts in professions that don't naturally already occur on the internet. You're going to find hobbyists in plenty on the internet, because that's where people go in their downtime and to decompress. But for people who's business needs don't intersect with the internet, the business matter subject isn't going to lead them to look for a place to share their knowledge.
Their business subject isn't going to also be their hobby subject. For us that tends to be the case.
I just earned the Copy Editor badge on Stack Overflow, but I don't think I have 600 edits! On my profile, under "Activity > Revisions," I only have fourteen pages of edits, each of which has 30 edits on it. That's less than 450 edits. Did I somehow get this badge prematurely?
Or do not all ...
This is interesting. Someone has left a browser open pointed to a page of one of my websites for over 3 weeks straight. Not revisiting or reopened, never closed, for 3 weeks.
When I worked at DuPont, we got yelled at for having lights on in our office. While in the office. They wanted to reduce power usage in the building and put up real-time usage displays all over.
If you managed to get hurt at work, you'd basically become the enemy of every other employee at the facility, too. They were working on some kind of 2 year safety record or something, with funding bonuses attached.
Cell phones were not allowed in most of the buildings at the facility. That went hand-in-hand with the monthly vapor cloud drills. If a reactor malfunctioned, a chemical vapor cloud could form and drift down halls. Dropping a cell phone could dislodge the battery, causing a tiny spark, that would ignite the cloud and kill everyone.
I was issued a set of safety goggles on my first day of work. I still have them, still sealed in the plastic they came in.
:shakes fist at his half-assed Windows Apache setup without proper SSL support:
@TimStone That's true of lots of places; cell phones are banned in part of my building. It's so you can't use them to make phone calls or record things, not to try and avoid sparks from dislodged batteries. That's the craziest thing I've ever heard
The homepage is very customizable, so what you see isn't necessarily what other people see. Once you have an account, you choose which subreddits (basically topics) you want to see.

"feedback" is linked under "help" on every page of the site
@PopularDemand I closed all browser windows except Pandora and disabled all existing permissions for my browser on my outgoing firewall, so it asked me to connect to anywhere. I then very selectivly allowed rules that had .pandora.com in the name and were clearly things I wanted, like audio-blah.pandora.com or autocomplete.pandora.com and denied anything related to ads like doubleclick :-)
Oh. Well, I don't want to deprive Pandora of revenue or misuse their service. They barely exist already, their royalty payments for streaming increase every year, and in 4 years their contract expires and they either renegotiate or go out of business (again).
