@Moshe I hate your game ... Fish smelled funny my ass... You need to tweak that algo and the dropped money algo to not be 1/3 and 1/2 everytime.

1:10 AM
@drachenstern You hate my game?
You did pretty well there.

Those two things ... Bear in mind my 500.000.000+ score so far

The fish smelling funny and the penalty. Gotcha.

Just so harsh

The original had the cops chasing you. If they caught you, you lost half your cash and your all your items. In comparison this is less harsh. I do see the harshness and will lower it in the next update. .

Make em double or triple rands in a space 50% larger (to flatten the curve substantially) and that should work better, at least it'll be more random and less of a thwack
Just try tweaking it somehow :p
Oh wow, did it really?
Sorry, on iOS atm

1:16 AM
You're saying to make a larger range of random numbers?

On Edge no less stupid no 3G coverage grrr

The dialup of cellular internet.

If you had them both happen when the mob caught you that would be better than two events...

Yea the original was like that. I am on my iPhone too. On the way back to school.
Ok. I will change that then.

Do you know what happens when you do double rands to try and get more random?
It flattens the bell curve

1:17 AM
I assume it gets more evenly distributed.
So I am supposed to multiply rand*rand?

Q: Understanding "randomness"

TrufaI cant get my head around this, which is more random? rand() OR rand() * rand() I´m finding it a real brain teaser, could you help me out? Thanks in advance! EDIT: Intuitively I know that the Mathematical answer will be that they are equally random but I can't help but think that if you ...

That's the article to read right there

Ok. Thank you.

Just some feedback from roughly 12 hours playing now. Not all in a row. Fun otherwise. Good distribution of random on the prices. Are you using the native libraries for rand?

I use arc4random().
I think that's C but what do I know?
Feel free to rate on iTunes, btw. A positive rating might help get the ball rolling in terms of sales.
Thanks.

Haha, will do when i get back on 3G
See if there's a mersenne twister library, better rands

2:05 AM
Thanks. And I will look into it.

What I love about Stack Overflow is being able to take on a question that I have no prior knowledge of.
1
A: Visual Studio : Is there a way to Perform a "Find in files" with one single shortcut ?

FoscoYou could use a macro. I recorded and modified one in VS2010: Sub FindAllFiles() DTE.Find.FindWhat = DTE.ActiveDocument.Selection.ToString() DTE.Find.Target = vsFindTarget.vsFindTargetFiles DTE.Find.MatchCase = False DTE.Find.MatchWholeWord = False DTE.Find.MatchInHiddenText...

That's the first macro I've done in VS, hehe.

Nice @Fosco. I believe I owe you a promo code btw. I am working on the iPad UI right now. I just figured out the proper way to do custom rotations.

Cool... thanks :)

Oh, nice answer. I am itching to expand my experience, considering jumping back into .NET, but that wont happen for quite a while...

4:56 AM
@drachenstern I don't think I can remove Funazushi completely, it's an achievement and those can't be removed. I can make it much more rare though, and modify the behavior of the mob.
@Fosco interesting. I think I used a script like that once to serve content but that was a side effect - not showing the path to the end user.

A: How to hide the source of a download on a webpage.

FoscoYou could use cURL to serve as a pass-thru for the content. This would conceal the source of the actual data, and allow you to secure it any way you choose. It would also take a lot of bandwidth, roughly 2 times the size of all downloaded files. Give this a shot and let me know if it works? i...

Cody GrayI just noticed today that the mini-markdown on some (though strangely not all) of my comments is broken. I know for a fact that when I left them, everything was rendered just fine. In particular, I've noticed the problem occurring with inline hyperlinks and code snippets. Here are a few examples...

I can feel the bizziness, man!

2:30 PM
I would definitely say that any real-time, collaborative, synergistic computing platform for businesses to synchronously and asynchronously collaborate on high-value propositions with team mates on a flat, federated platform needs /me support

What's worse is that you could probably make a wavebot that adds just that.
Indeed, a common way of vandalizing waves was to adding enough bots to them, and leveraging their positive feedback synergy to bring value to the discussion on a web 2.0 topical future-enabled wave.
The take-away learn is that Wave didn't leverage enough jQuery.

@badp to create a synergistic relation with the real-time asynchronous JavaScript Just-in-Time parser-engine that would have been beneficial to its most-valued customers

@YiJiang that would have been a most future-proofing informating SAT for our best-practices on efforting of multi-prespective content.

Why do people answer questions without upvoting? If you take the time to answer, doesn't it seem to follow that you think the question is useful?

@RebeccaChernoff because it might be a very simple answer. Perhaps, the asker didn't know about the inbuilt function that does just what he's looking for.

A good question is not the same as an answerable question.

I'd give an example, but I don't want to call attention to the user. (;

Morning.
@drachenstern thanks.

This question is useful and clear: If you're answering, chances are it is clear. Sure you might be answering a pointless question that isn't useful, but you can kinda eyeball whether or not a question is useful, and I'd say this one is.

What does the "followers" count mean nowadays?

I've set up a bug tracker on a tissue. I'll move to github when I can.

I doubt 450 people are receiving emails for starcraft 2 questions.

Has anyone here ever done that? Issue/bug tracking on a facial tissue?

@RebeccaChernoff I doubt more than 10% of the users on the site have actually read that text..

Explanation and uses A point of order may be raised if the rules appear to have been broken. This may interrupt a speaker during debate, or anything else if the breach of the rules warrants it. The point is resolved before business continues. The point of order calls upon the chair to make a ruling. The motion is sometimes erroneously used to ask a question of information ...

@RebeccaChernoff So am I. Site = Stack Exchange..

I love that phrase. If I ever end up in government, somehow, I'll use it all the time. Any time you want to talk, you just shout "POINT OF ORDER!" and the chairman is required to recognize you.

3:53 PM
@badp That was changed shortly after the hover info was added.

@RebeccaChernoff I doubt that 10% of all the users across StackExchange would tell you that upvoting means that.

@TylerChacha would it be valid to compare C++ to Tolstoy then?

Today I have the lovely job of running everywhere and doing everything
@OctavianDamiean You are showing your age...
I have no clue what Tolstoy is..

Leo Tolstoy, or Count Lyev Nikolayevich Tolstoy (Russian: Лев Никола́евич Толсто́й) (September 9, 1828 – November 20, 1910), was a Russian writer many consider to have been one of the world's greatest novelists. His literary masterpieces War and Peace and Anna Karenina represent, in their scope, breadth and vivid depiction of 19th-century Russian life and attitudes, the peak of realist fiction. Tolstoy's further talents as essayist, dramatist, and educational reformer made him the most influential member of the aristocratic Tolstoy family. His literal interpretation of the ethical ...

@MichaelMrozek What keyboard layout did you type that in? q:

6:33 PM
@RebeccaChernoff I had no less than three people warn me of the horrors of Dvorak when I mentioned it yesterday :P

...horrors?
There are no horrors!

Help my space is broken!

Only dancing unicorns.

My IDE won't open and CSPAN is offline for technical difficulties. Must be bad karma. I must reboot.

They didn't mention anything about unicorns

6:35 PM
You could have already learned the layout by now ya know. (;

I think you vastly overestimate my skills. It reminded me a lot of learning a foreign language, something else I'm terrible at
I did the home row, and if I focused I could hit about one letter per second, and then my cat would meow or something and I'd get distracted for half a second and switch to qwerty automatically

I've heard that from several people that whine and whine and whine before learning Dvorak. And then they learned it. And found they could actually easily learn and use it. (:
What did I say about switching back to qwerty while learning? (;

I meant I'd start hitting the qwerty keys, and type the wrong letters :)

That's what the lessons are for!
hehe

I'm suspicious of your pro-Dvorak agenda

6:41 PM
Dvorak is an illuminati conspiracy that never caught on

@MichaelMrozek Haha.
I decided to try it out to see if the hype I heard was true. That was several years ago. I'd say it was worth it. q:

I know how to type that! Yay home row

and the a doesn't even move!

but @MichaelMrozek, if you switch to dvorak how will you type in your password?

How will anyone else be able to type your password!

6:44 PM
It's easy, I just press....wait a minute

You'll think qwerty and type ',.py

I suspect I'll always think qwerty. Despite @RebeccaChernoff's best efforts

@RebeccaChernoff Asking again: why chat scrolls all the way up then all the way down when a new message arrives?

@Nyuszika7H um, what?
@badp negatory.

@RebeccaChernoff A moment…

@badp When I set up hotkeys to switch between them I bound qwerty to ctrl+shift+q, and then couldn't get back because q had gone and moved itself when I switched to dvorak

just use ctrl+shift, problem solved!

Nice of them to at least leave those alone

6:46 PM
hahahaha

unless you wanted to use ctrl-shift in any other key combination

Trying to reproduce the problem… successful!

Do you have ctrl+shift bound to something?

Are there Dvorak MacBooks?

@Nyuszika7H, is there a reason you're asking me specifically?

6:47 PM
@RebeccaChernoff No.

on Windows I can't think of examples, but there surely are cases.

@Nyuszika I've seen that before.

Think Photoshop or Word.

@RebeccaChernoff I have everything bound to something. I rebound caps lock as an extra modifier key because ctrl/shift/alt/super were all pretty much in use

@badp What does ctrl+shift do in those?
It doesn't matter what shortcut you use, just use something

6:49 PM
ctrl-shift-right: extend selection by one word
how do you know if I wanted to ctrl-shift or I wanted to ctrl-shift-right?

@RebeccaChernoff screenr.com/9Wf

@badp That's ctrl+shift+right not ctrl+shift like I said I use...
@badp Because you didn't press right at the same time?
@Nyuszika7H I'm still unsure why you're asking me specifically. I think I've seen it do that maybe once...early on during the public beta maybe.

@Nyuszika7H do you have any userscripts etc. installed?

@balpha Yeah.

can you reproduce without them?

@RebeccaChernoff :P
@RebeccaChernoff You can! Here's an ASCII cheatsheet.

7:00 PM
Also, if you've learned the home row, you can type a lot with just that.
@Nyuszika7H ...not what I meant.

@RebeccaChernoff I type with 2-3 fingers only, but I type fast… not so fast with 10 fingers.
room topic changed to: The Cavern (General) The longest running community wiki question ever.

@MichaelMrozek, there are 2709 words in the OSPD that contain letters only in Dvorak's home row.

I don't use the home row, so I'm not particularly swayed by those arguments :)

The longest one is "tendentiousness"!
"assassinations" is the 3rd longest. In case you were curious.
> I don't use the home row
This does not compute.

I don't keep my fingers on the home row and pivot from there; I used to be under the impression that was an illusion taught in typing classes, I didn't think anybody actually used it
Apparently quite a few people do

7:06 PM
o:
You should totally do that. (:

HOME ROW
asdf jkl;

aoeuidhtns- (:

7:32 PM
When I rest my hands upon the keyboard, my index finger of the right hand does not stay on the home row.
I have (left hand) fingers on shift, first three letters of home row and space; (right hand) m, last four letters of the home row (dvorak; last three letters and first symbol qwerty)

actually my thumb on the right hand usually is on no key at all...
I guess I type with 9 fingers after all.

I have my left hand on (pinky -> thumb): "aoeu ". I have my right hand on (thumb -> pinky): " htns".

I guess the problem is that I don't have the keyboard squarely ahead of me, but slightly on the left

Mine are on awefjop' at the moment, but I don't think it's particularly consistent

7:37 PM
that's even weirder than @badp

I have no set starting position or home row, type fast, and don't need to look at the keyboard.

@RebeccaChernoff qwerty keys, not dvorak ones.
@Fosco I don't either, but my hands rest automatically in that position

@badp erm yeah i figured that.

actually, @MichaelMrozek's layout matches the human hand pretty perfectly

@MichaelMrozek Mine are in a similar position, though for the middle two fingers they usually end up somewhere in between keys, heh.

7:38 PM
I guess this means @MichaelMrozek lost his right hand middle finger in the great internet wars of the Age of USENET

@Fosco mmmno ):

Right middle is o

mmmyes!

When I know what I'm going to type I move my hands to cover the right keys; I don't generally plan 1 key ahead

@MichaelMrozek so your right hand thumb is on...

7:39 PM
Both thumbs are on space

he didn't include thumbs

I have all fingers on the home row. Dunno why, cause I can't really touch type.

If I lift my hands into the air, curl my fingers like I was going to play the piano or type on a keyboard, and hold that shape as I put them on the keyboard, they're all on the home row except for my thumbs.

that's because you curl your fingers so they are all straight in a row...

If you're typing flat, you're doing it wrong. ):
Same with the piano.

7:41 PM
Typing flat?

Incidentally, I've played piano just about as long as I've been using computers.

I've had people alternate between "wow, you type really fast!" and "you're not typing correctly" for about 20 years, so I'm used to it by now

Regardless, learn Dvorak! ^__^

Thanks for reminding me. I dreamt last night that I was a virtuoso piano player.

Never!

7:42 PM
At any rate I didn't need no stinkin' lessons to learn QWERTY!

One of my friends learned Dvorak because she thought her roommate was using her computer when she wasn't home. That stopped that haha.

That seems like kind of a roundabout solution. :P

Too bad operating systems don't support password-protected user accounts.

Yeah, she had one. Just not a strong one, clearly.

Whenever I run into unexpected behavior on SO, I hesitate to bring it up on MSO - maybe another hundred UX tweaks got pushed out the night before, and it's by design.

Posts like "I just saw this new thing, is it intentional?" amaze me; like people think the engine added the ability to suggest edits to itself without the devs knowing about it

@MichaelMrozek: well, be fair. it might have been an accidental byproduct of an intentional change.

@MichaelMrozek The SE engine has gained sentience and is looking for ways to improve itself without relying on those who created it.

@MichaelPetrotta yes, I noticed, thank you for the compliment and Jewish music is mostly in Hebrew and taken from "verses" of the bible. pant pant

@RebeccaChernoff but does it reach to the coffee shop?

my bluetooth reaches outside, and almost all over my house. #amazed

@Rebecca is that an upwards smiley? Wow AT&T must be having a rough day.

8:00 PM
ooo starcraft II is finally finished re-downloading

@Zypher Why would I care? (; Though StL Bread Co has free wifi that I was thankful for the other day when the city was ripping up my neighbor's sidewalk.

@Moshe: "Shomrim" that alternatively creeps me out and sounds awesome.

room topic changed to The Cavern (General): The shortest standing moderator's own answer. never.

Feel free to download my app and rate. I have to go work on that iPad UI. @MichaelPetrotta if you are going to download one of the music apps, go for the orange one, it was just updated and shows song info.

@RebeccaChernoff hmm uhh what if the internet there is out

8:01 PM
huh?

the internet ... no workie
oh noooeeezz

If I can't work from home and wifi's out at Panera? Borders. Then the public library.

:-D
yes all of the above

@MichaelPetrotta i hear ya. I made that cuz someone suggested it after I made the Hatzalah app. Not my idea.

Hell, even McDonald's has free wifi so sayeth their sign.
Doesn't Starbucks charge for wifi anyway?

8:03 PM
@Zypher did you find the cheat in Nippon?

@Moshe nah ... didn't really look for it though

@RebeccaChernoff: think you get it free if you have a Starbucks gift card, even if it's empty
or work for my company

This amuses me. I'm sitting outside because it is so nice out and my neighbor is chipping ice off his deck from the storm many days ago.

Aww, I've revoked access from myself in this room! Could a mod delete it, please? @RebeccaChernoff @Zypher

This room is public.
There is no access needed.
And you're obviously still talking, so I'm confused what you want me to do. (;

8:05 PM
@RebeccaChernoff I made that room, but I'm not an owner of it anymore…

I was mulling moving an office into starbucks. Just set up a few iMacs and buy everyone a coffee. Then pull out my iPhone and loudly say "Hi I'm at the office". Would annoy the manager prolly.

@RebeccaChernoff: different room, he's asking about

Ah sorry, didn't notice the link from the glare of the sun.

where do you live that you're seeing sun?

What's this sun nonsense you're talking about? I only see overcast skies. |:

8:06 PM
Skies are perfectly clear here and it's just about 60 degrees!

I think you need to push those weather changes out to the rest of us.

Ah damn, did I forget to push my local weather repo to the server? (;

Apparently. You'd best fix that before I have to file a bug.

Also, damn you chat ads!

8:09 PM
That says partly cloudy. I strongly disagree.

I grip my mouse like I'm afraid it's going to run away.

Don't make me flag.

@Nyuszika7H: your english confuses me.

8:14 PM
@MichaelPetrotta That's my point :P

One of my cats is like a tangled mass of pipe cleaners - twist her in a particular way, and she stays like that until you move her again.

@MichaelPetrotta Are you sure she's...alive...and everything?

@Tim: sometimes I wonder.

Hm, this issue almost doesn't seem worthy of a MSO bug report...Which dev is sitting here waiting to be harassed? ;)
