I'm going to start popping into THCs and asking questions like "which nominee would make the worst mod?". It's going to be fun
"What secret do you think would put you out of the running if it became widely known?"
"If a blood sacrifice was required to become moderator (and it is), who would your victim be?"

Programmer town hall is over
@JustinjjnguyNelson great questions!
12:08 AM
@TheRenamedException Thanks, just trying to help.
I probably won't even vote. I haven't participated on the site at all.
haha, I might not either
@JustinjjnguyNelson I can't vote; I asked questions anyway :)
@MichaelMrozek why can't you vote?
Are you a pro tem mod?
No, I have 101 rep there
I'm pretty sure pro tem mods can vote
@MichaelMrozek ah. I could have sworn your name was blue...
12:10 AM
I'm a pro tem mod on Unix; chat doesn't make a distinction
If you click a name on chat.SE you can see what site their account is associated with
@MichaelMrozek Ah.
@JustinjjnguyNelson I am sure Zypher will help you out :-D
> Last April, the MySQL appliance was tweaked so it could be used as a NoSQL key-value persistent store for applications.
@TheRenamedException i meant to ask Rebecca in P.SE chat.
12:15 AM
@JustinjjnguyNelson She will probably help you. I was referring to when Zypher changed my name without my permission :-)

@TheNeedsMoarJqueryException also when chat re-syncs with meta your username will be shorter ... i ... couldn't ... stand ... it
@TheRenamedException Haha. oh I see. I'm not hip to all of the inside jokes.
@JustinjjnguyNelson you had to be here. It happened 30 days ago -- I just got my name back ;-)
@TheRenamedException Ah, fair enough.
@JustinjjnguyNelson oy. (:
2
@MichaelMrozek I don't get that one either...
Well, the smiley I get...but not oy
12:18 AM
@RebeccaChernoff says oy a lot. And has backwards smilies
Typically saying it gets me piles of stars, but apparently not today

@JustinjjnguyNelson Yes you can. If you can't... @RebeccaChernoff will force you to... evil laugh
@YiJiang Good job with the election site btw.
12:21 AM
@JustinjjnguyNelson Thanks
@JustinjjnguyNelson yeah, I second this @YiJiang!

12:23 AM
Ha, thanks for the help guys!
@YiJiang spreading evil lies about me? ):
@RebeccaChernoff You'd have to disprove his statement before they become lies.
The programmers' THC started off slow, but got just as jumbled as SU's :-)
@RebeccaChernoff Do you want me to pull out pictorial proof again? ;)
@TheRenamedException Sorry if I made it confusing at all.
12:26 AM
@JustinjjnguyNelson no, not at all
@YiJiang, opening photoshop doesn't count as evidence (:
2
Mostly it was people coming in late, and forgotten / delayed answers
@RebeccaChernoff haha
@MichaelMrozek I did it again, huh? I created the room under the wrong site!
How did I do that wrong?
I don't even remember how it works, it's been a long time since I made a room
It probably associates the room with whatever site your chat account is associated with, which for you is SO
12:29 AM
@TheRenamedException Shouldn't you have to choose from a list of sites when you create the room?
@YiJiang I swear I checked everything before making this room since last time I miessed it up
@YiJiang That's how I would expect it to work, but there's no option for it
I think @MichaelMrozek is right, it uses my associated account
@YiJiang >_<

in Programmers Town Hall Chat, 31 mins ago, by Justin 'jjnguy' Nelson
How do you feel about the (what seems to me as a ) relatively small turnout to this chat? Does it upset you? Are you phased by it at all?
12:31 AM
Possibly to prevent you from making a room on a site you don't have enough rep on, although it seems like it could just check for that after you submit
That was a good question @JustinjjnguyNelson, I didn't even see it live
only just saw it
@MichaelMrozek makes sense
@TheRenamedException thanks
I see an alert in here, and like 15 seconds later my really slow computer across the room that also has chat open makes the "new message!" sound
I hope SO holds a mid year election...I can't wait another year to run again.

That digest was a piece of cake :-)
12:34 AM
@TheRenamedException Good work.
@JustinjjnguyNelson you'll have my support!
@JustinjjnguyNelson haha, thanks
@Trufa thanks.
I agree with @MichaelMrozek there has to be a better format
it was pretty bad when JoshK and Renesis though my room was the real town hall! =o
Hmmm, where did the 'invite this user to...' option go?
@TheRenamedException Ahahaha
12:36 AM
@TheRenamedException Yah. I wouldn't have started it before the town hall was over
@YiJiang see my query from last digest :-)
@JustinjjnguyNelson yes, I agree :-)
or at least until all candidates were present
I can create a GM script that would allow you to pull out chat messages and format them with a template, would that work?
You can then do whatever you want with the formatted messages
that would be awesome.
but what Town Halls are left?
@TheRenamedException Well, there's at least half a dozen more elections, so...
ah, nice
I had no idea there were so many for some reason

First, a quick update on the Stack Exchange moderator election schedule.

Ending today, so get those votes in!

Ending soon:

Just started:

Coming soon, in this order, at 3 per week:

(as always check out Yi Jiang’s awesome Stack Exchange Moderator Candidate Statistics page for insanely detailed election stats on any of the above.)

As you can see, we have a lot of community moderators! That’s why we’ve been working so hard lately on improving our moderator tooling, to make sure our new class of incoming moderators have as pleasant, polished, and smooth an experience as possible. …

@YiJiang Shayshay... er, how would you write "Thank you" in Chinese phonetically in English? :-)
@TheRenamedException In pinyin it's Xie Xie
@YiJiang ah ha, I would never have thought to type it like that :-)
Chinese phonetics is different from English ones, heh
Anyone having issues with approving edits? It keeps telling me "You must have edit rights to approve edits" or something like that...

Programmers Town Hall Chat has been digested:
in Programmers Town Hall Chat on The Stack Exchange Network Chat, 44 secs ago, by Josh
I have created a digest version of this chat, which contains only the questions and answers, sorted for easy reading, should it be helpful to anyone.
@The me in here or @Josh me in there with corrections
12:45 AM
I'm gonna take off. Gonna stop feeling sorry for myself and go rock climbing.
C ya
@JustinjjnguyNelson have fun!!!
take it easy
@Zypher @TheRenamedException - Bad news...
/me needs to figure out another badge to go for next. The two I was gunning for in the past week I got today (well, yesterday)
12:47 AM
I had to pull my binary from the queue.
@Moshe OH NO!!!
I realized that I had a minimum version of 4.2, which is a bad idea.
And I broke 300 questions today...
But, on the bright side, I am resubmitting it now.
I hope I didn't do anything too terribly stupid.
@Josh Here's my attempt at a meta template for doing digests
@RebeccaChernoff I messed up and posted the wrong digest link, you have a flag on Programmers./SE chat :-)
@MichaelMrozek reading now
@badp @RebeccaChernoff @TimStone I've pushed the reputation audit helper to the github repo
12:49 AM
@ircmaxell which ones are you close to

@Trufa: I'm not sure. 41 from bronze in security....

@MichaelMrozek I like that
@ircmaxell well that could be nice
interesting topic
it's clean and easy to read. But, will votes affect it? I guess people will vote for the best questions
I kinda like that idea also actually!
@TheRenamedException Yeah, that's exactly why I didn't break it down by user (although I think that view would certainly be useful, possibly more so than by question)
12:51 AM
@ircmaxell I've asked a couple of (seemingly interesting questions) on security
@TimStone @Moshe and @RebeccaChernoff, what do you guys think of @MichaelMrozek's digest idea? (Above and below)
1
A: Formatting Sandbox

Michael Mrozek(Draft of a potential template for election THC digests. I tried different ways of saying who posted the answer: A bare name, a name linked to the nomination page, a name linked to their profile, a flair image, and a link to the transcript entry of that person's answer to the question. I think a ...

working on Epic as well...and casually working on Sportsmanship and generalist
@ircmaxell How many times have you hit the cap so far? ;)
I think your formatting @MichaelMrozek combined with @YiJiang's javascript idea could be a huge improvement
@YiJiang: Quite a bit. Should be at least half way to Epic, if not work...
12:57 AM
In honor of this great idea I have change dmy Gravatar @MichaelMrozek.
Everyone should now reload chat! :-D
@YiJiang wanted to congratulate you for the wheel of blame (which I saw today)
@Trufa thanks for the reminder...
@YiJiang man, you come up with some crazy but cool things
@YiJiang ohh yes it was @TheRenamedException that pointed me to it (thanks to you too)
@Trufa Not my idea, actually
which wob?
12:59 AM
@Trufa no, I mean, you reminded me I was going to give the WoB a URL...
@ircmaxell there are wheels plural?
@TheRenamedException Well, there's also the WoM...
The one I know of is from Ivo's kitten
nice
very nice
1:00 AM
@YiJiang stand by...
or in Moshespeak: wait for it...
I got It's The SO Dev Team's fault! twice in a row so far. Do we need a better random function?
@ircmaxell Nope, it's really their fault most of the time ;)
@YiJiang very nice too haha lol
But seriously, you can look at the source code
1:02 AM
@YiJiang hehe
@TheRenamedException What was the JS idea?
Math.floor(Math.random() * li.length * 2) + li.length * 2
25 mins ago, by Yi Jiang
I can create a GM script that would allow you to pull out chat messages and format them with a template, would that work?
why *2?
1:03 AM
I will have too sleep eventually (random - thinking out loud though)
@TheRenamedException Ah, yes, that would save quite a bit of work
@MichaelMrozek sorry meant GM
@ircmaxell The list is cloned 4 times to give it enough spin length
ahhh
makes sense then
@TheRenamedException how do you quote like that!
?
1:03 AM
The second li.length * 2 is there to make sure that it spins through at least 2 list lengths
yeah...
@Trufa paste just the URL
works for questions also
so for:
1 min ago, by Trufa
@TheRenamedException how do you quote like that!
2 mins ago, by The Renamed Exception
@MichaelMrozek sorry meant GM
send: http://chat.meta.stackoverflow.com/transcript/message/491090#491090
@Trufa there you go
@TheRenamedException thank you!!
@TheRenamedException and now that we are at it
on more question
is there a quick way to reply
the same way you put @ and choose name
1:07 AM
There is if you install.... The Script
@Trufa You can click on the reply button on the right
@YiJiang I think that's probably the not-quick way
@Michael: !! What is the first rule of The Script?!?
1:07 AM
@MichaelMrozek Well yes, but I'm not really sure what's his definition of quick here
@YiJiang yes, I know, the non mouse way!
there is no script?
:)
@Trufa Look at the link to the script I've posted up there
Okay!
@RebeccaChernoff I have a present for you!
AHAHAHAHA!
> It's rchern's fault! Oy!

@YiJiang checking it out, really cool!!!
thanks!!!!!

@YiJiang checking it out, really cool!!!
@RebeccaChernoff @YiJiang - At the above link, (rchern.github.com/StackExchangeScripts) where is my blog post on installing in Safari?
@Moshe Sorry, I forgot about adding that - I will now
@YiJiang np. Want the link?
Can you repost a link? Should I copy your instructions or just add a link to your blog?
For consistency, it's best to post there. (But I'd love the linkback)You can do both, I'll grab the link in a second.
It's a random number post ID, I have not learned to use "slug" links yet...

Hello All what are you lot talking about?
@Benny nonsense as usual :-)
How goes @Benny?
@TheRenamedException what are you talking about
@Benny ...do you mean what are we talking about in this room? Or what does my message mean?
Alright...Kinect is pretty cool.
@TheRenamedException both
1:24 AM
@Benny my message was asking how you are
In this room we talk about a lot of things, most of them are nonsense :-)
@TheRenamedException Good tahnks
@Moshe Updated
@TimStone do tell
I dunno, I was even amused by being able to move through menus by tossing them to the side, heh.
I have a question
What is your fav site behind SO?
1:28 AM
@Benny favorite to use? Meta :-)
Followed by StackOverflow
Favorite design? Apple
any mods around here?? (or with enough power to make a post community wiki which I think is the same thing)
@TheRenamedException I mean anything besides SE sites
@Benny oh, you said "behind", I was unclear as to what you meant
@Benny ...wait, there exists sites other than StackExchange sites? LIES!
;-)
@TheRenamedException You can't call it Apple any more, you have to call it Ask Different now. :-P
@ChrisJesterYoung better still!
1:32 AM
:(
I am in favor of domain names
I gave someone the address cooking.stackexchange.com once and she looked at me like I had three heads
Thankfully you can give seasonedadvice.com too.
Now I can
I couldn't then :-)
Any one with a good domain for Code Review when it leaves beta?
@Benny Meh, sites don't get domain names when they leave beta anymore
1:34 AM
@Benny Shallow Bugs. :-P
@ChrisJesterYoung haha
@YiJiang They still do, but it's not the main site domain.
@ChrisJesterYoung Fat Ass Codes
informal.reviews.implementation.softwareengineering.stackexchange.co.us
@Benny needsMoarJquery.com
1:35 AM
very mature of you all!!
:)
@Trufa don't forget you're in the Tavern... ;-)
I'll be drunk and disorderly if I want to!
2
@TheRenamedException Don't forget everything is logged for your boss to read!
@ChrisJesterYoung what you team up with @TimStone now too? ;-)
@TimPost I will flag you for moderator attention!!! ;P
1:36 AM
We email his boss daily digests, don't worry.
hehe
@ChrisJesterYoung I'm no longer "Josh" on here for a reason XD
:491194 Hehlol.
@TheRenamedException You assume that your boss hasn't found your original SO profile yet. :-P
@Trufa by the way, that's Tim Stone. Tim Post is a moderator ;-)
@TheRenamedException Not yet, no
1:38 AM
Tim Post's name coming before mine in the autocomplete is the best thing that could have happened. People accidentally throw insults his way, and he can ban them before they realize their mistake and come after me.
@TheRenamedException my point exactly! (it was a Joke hehe) ;)
Oh cool, another set of names to confuse. Hi, @Tim, and hi @Tim.
waves
@TheRenamedException Nothing on the Internet is private, really.
1:39 AM
@Trufa oh, sorry, I is not smart sometimes, durrr
@ChrisJesterYoung my view exactly
My plan to elect Michael Mrozek as a mod, and thereby make him too busy for the chat, so I don't get his notifications, has evidently failed.
@TheRenamedException thats why we are here (joke too) ;)
Did any run to be a mod on any site here?
@Benny I nominated myself for SO moderatorship, but didn't pass the primary.
@ChrisJesterYoung why didn't you tell me you were from Durham earlier, I would have campaigned for you! :-)
...like my campaign for @MichaelMrozek did any good, haha...
1:42 AM
@Chris How many votes did you get?
@TheRenamedException @TimPost supported my nomination too. That wasn't enough either.
@Benny High two figures.
@ChrisJesterYoung clearly that was a facade to get elected himself ;-)
@TheRenamedException Hahahahaha. I'd vote for him anyway, he's a #stackoverflow semi-regular, and I always support anybody in #stackoverflow who runs for moderatorship.
@ChrisJesterYoung what is this #stackoverflow you speak of??
THERE IS ONLY ONE TRUE CHAT!
:-)
@TheRenamedException what server is #stackoverflow on?
1:45 AM
@Benny IDK. I only chat here
@Benny Freenode.
@TheRenamedException It's my home channel, don't dis it!
If you want to use IRC to chat with stackoverflow people...

Q: IRC access for the chat?

jrkWill there be any way of accessing the chat over IRC? As beautiful ajax interfaces are ... IRC is still #1 for chats.

:-D
Go to chat.meta.stackoverflow.com/rooms/346 if you want to complain about rep recalcs
@TheRenamedException Greg Hewgill (author of SOIRC) is a #stackoverflow regular too.
@ChrisJesterYoung this doesn't surprise me :-)
Actually that reminds me

Q: Offer an XMPP method for chat

Greg HewgillThis is a request for the SO chat system to have an XMPP interface. The whole idea of a chat system is to bring people together, and a key way of doing that is to allow people to access the system using more than one method. Right now there's a web interface, but it's limited to being a web inte...

My SOXMPP bridge is down, I must fix that
1:47 AM
@TheRenamedException Heh.
@MichaelMrozek The diamonds have arrived!
Right, good. Was going to riot in the streets if my election wishes were ignored for another hour.
@MichaelMrozek they don't have one on meta.so
@Benny I still don't understand if they're going to be mods there or not; I haven't gotten a straight answer yet
1:52 AM
@MichaelMrozek If they don't will there be a election on meta.so?
@Benny Well, meta already has tons of mods, that's the main reason they might not add new ones
@MichaelMrozek how many mods do they have?
@Benny 12 (all the trilogy mods up to a certain point, and a couple dedicated meta mods)
@MichaelMrozek How many mods do SO have now?
@ChrisJesterYoung XMPP bridge is back
1:54 AM
@Benny 9
@TheRenamedException \o/
@MichaelMrozek 9? including founders?
No, I don't count devs
@Trufa The full list is actually quite long if you count devs
It doesn't change the comparison anyway, since they have mod abilities everywhere. It's 12 vs. 9 or 12+n vs. 9+n
1:55 AM
@MichaelMrozek if they don't become meta mods will meta have an election becuase I will run/
@YiJiang Oh, that's a useful route
@Benny Didn't you ask that already?
@YiJiang where the hell do you get all this stuff
???
@MichaelMrozek Yeah, but it doesn't separate dev and mods, which is annoying
@MichaelMrozek sorry :(
@Trufa The Stack Exchange API
1:57 AM
@YiJiang the API is read only right?
@Trufa Yup
SLaks is a meta mod now, so I guess that answers that question
So we'll have 15 mods now
@MichaelMrozek what about SF/SU mods?
They're not going to be MSO mods, they have dedicated metas now
That's a lot of mods
1:58 AM
@TheRenamedException Indeed; hence the lack of a dedicated election T_T
Does anyone know how to build an SE programm on Windows using VS 2010?
Ok, I confess, I was just using that last comment as an excuse to test XMPP write support XD
@Benny "build an SE program"?
@TheRenamedException I feel so used
