We've got about four sites that are getting a new design in March/early April. After those launch, Emacs is second in the queue. Shouldn't be too long. — Kurtis Beavers 4 hours ago

user315433
I ran the idea of a Magneto image by the design team internally. We've determined that this is most likely a copyright violation and shouldn't knowingly use an image without securing the proper permission. We could explore a parody version, but that requires more time. The image above using Russell Crowe is in violation and will be updated as well. — Hynes 8 hours ago

That's a polite way of saying "sixth", I guess.
Can you mark a message as a reply without pinging the author? That wasn't worth pinging for but is related.

@AndrewT. The person would be Kurtis, I think. He worked on the design, and was the one who fixed that yellow stripe I reported recently.

Q: Why can meta sites be parents of chatrooms?

IͶΔNot sure if it counts as a bug or not, but some per-site metas can be the parent sites of chatrooms. This room is a living example, where the parent site is MathOverflow meta. Here is a beautiful screenshot: 10 meta sites are selectable as the parent site, 2 of which are beta sites. As choosi...

CC @Andrew

9:27 AM
@IͶΔ what does happen if you go to a meta site and start a ping-pong comment battle with an user there? When the "move to chat" feature triggers, "where" is the room created? Based on that, I suspect it is the meta site that becomes the room parent, not the main one. I also expect that this is why some rooms appear as selectable there - those would be the metas that had a chat room automagically created in the past.

9:39 AM
@Derpy Makes sense.
Only 10 metas are available, one is Math Educators meta, so there's prolly something random and unintended here.

@blahdiblah, see my latest to get a sense of volume. We don't have counsel on staff for these because they'd get bored. If we got a questionable one (asking for lots of user's info, or info that couldn't logically seem to connect to the charge, we'd probably consult with counsel to see if it's worth challenging. — Jaydles ♦ Oct 3 '13 at 18:44

Things changed... Could be the recent Jobs-scraping revelations, I suppose.

I've no inside knowledge of this specifically, but my guess would be that at a certain point having multiple high-ranking employees "playing lawyer" + a real lawyer on contract to vet their output is probably less efficient than just putting one on staff.

@Shog9 Re your recent comments here about downvotes weighing more than closures for question bans, I'm thinking about going through 0-score closed questions and downvoting some of them. It's voting based on content, but I'm not doing it to rank the content, but instead to push users who seem unlikely to ask good questions in the future closer to the question ban. Is that cool?

user315433

@JeffreyBosboom inb4 a quote from Admiral Grace Hopper

@AlexisKing Embrace them, I say, embrace them.

11:42 PM
@JeffreyBosboom you're asking if it's cool to downvote lousy questions?

@Shog9 It sounds obvious when you phrase it like that, but we always say "vote on content, not the user". I sort of am voting on the user here, saying "based on the content so far, I don't think you can contribute good questions in the future".

@JeffreyBosboom well, then don't do that.
Just downvote lousy questions. And upvote good ones, if you happen across any.

@JeffreyBosboom that's a shitty way to do things. people can and will improve. don't conclusively profile them based on their shitty questions

If I'm reading you right, the only way this would be problematic is if you ended up downvoting decent questions based on some prediction of what the author would likely post in the future. Obviously, that's not a great idea unless Tom Cruise is coming after you with an eye transplant.
So avoid it by ignoring the author and just downvoting crap.

Okay, that addresses my concerns. Thanks.

@404 I wish the roomba deleted questions with score < -3 and all negatively-scored answers even if they weren’t closed. I can’t imagine there would be many false positives there.
