I just noticed that the Community♦ user edited a ~1 year old answer of mine. As you can see, the method call was changed from getSfGuardUser to getGuardUser:
Now I checked the documentation and it seems that the edit is correct.
But how did Community know about that? Afaik it is an automated ...
Here's an idea - create a separate page that 3k users will/can have to look though that lists the top 'What belongs here' bit from each of the migrate option site, instead of the current format, which is a bit of a pain as you'd have to go through each of the faq to look for the appropriate site to migrate to
If a Facebook users dies, what happens to his/her Facebook account? Is it deleted after a certain period? Should his/her friends or relatives inform Facebook that he/she is dead?
His staff kept the account open and use it as a mermorial
Reading "Diff is hard, let's go shopping!" it would appear there's no stopping this new anyone-can-edit functionality... sigh I am not pleased with this
I guess that saves me the time of having to write a long argument against it though
@Josh: If I had the time to find it, I'd point you to the chat with Jeff where I stated my main reservation: too many editors, not enough reviewers. Especially if the editors get rep and the reviewers don't...
I think it required a certain level of knowledge of the sites to be able to edit well enough. I've been around for 1.5 years and still I am unsure of certain edits I make
@YiJiang This is true. Waffles commented on that, but since it's not finalized maybe it's, well, not finalized...
Yeah, where's the How to edit page anyway? And they should be made to read through the umpteen questions in meta about whether saying thanks in a question is allowed or not :)
> @Robert ... this helps fight information rot... so many old questions need TLC. pending edit will block further edits and be actionable inline. – waffles♦ 14 hours ago
"Images in nominations will be programmatically disabled on the next push, please edit your nomination accordingly to not have issues when this happens, it doesn't meet the minimum length threshold without the image currently"
> @ifaour thanks for the compliment. I will not be throwing my hat in the ring, mainly due to time constraints, and because I'm planning to leave the industry soon and my SO activity is very likely to decrease massively as a consequence. But there are really great people on the list - bit of a shame there are only two positions to fill! – Pekka 13 hours ago
A good reason to vote for @AidenBell is his profile says, "I can also be found up to mischief on MSO chat". This means he's approachable and you always know where to find him!
So far, this is the single most depressing campaign in history. So far I have: a) is always in the chat b) vote if you didn't vote for another guy c) Don't vote for him
<serious><campaign for="Aiden Bell">[...] This means he's approachable and you always know where to find him! With nearly a year on StackOverflow and over 10k rep, Aiden clearly knows how the community works and has the knowledge to back that up. He has a genuine interest in helping the community grow and his behavior on the site and in chat demonstrates this.<?campaign></serious>
I will have my SO accounts dissolved - being on page 1 is too much of a temptation to just answer one more question - but I'll create new accounts to be around on chat from time to time and (when it comes to fruition) Outdoors.SE
@badp Yeah, and I managed to stay quiet in chat yesterday for... um, 3 hours... when rchern dared me to. So, ok, yeah actually that's not much of an inspiration. Sorry, nevermind :-)
@Benjol It is the plan, but nowadays you never know! I will be aiming for non-IT related work but obviously, there is some amount of computers involved in every profession.
What happened to Neil Butterworth's account? His about section says "please delete me". I have never seen him saying "please".
By the way what happened to his reputation score?
@YiJiang yeah, although it will be fairly distributed. My biggest worry is that some accounts that were blocked due to low-quality questions will resurface when my downvotes go away :) :)
@Pekka Hey.. I don't want to see you go anywhere, or the evidence of your contributions erased... Can't you just have SO disable/lock-out your account.. like memorialized as if you were dead on facebook? :)
@Fosco @Benjol @Aiden have checked with Jeff about the options. The "deletion" option will "memorialize" me in that my name will remain next to my contributions (which is great should I ever need to show off some general language abilities during an interview or something.) I wouldn't want a high-rep dummy user hanging around dead in the water, it somehow doesn't feel right and it clogs up page 1 (and after some time, page 2, page 3...)
@Fosco it's not really important, but it don't feel right. The user list should consist of active users IMO.
The only thing that goes away is the votes (which isn't great) and the possibility to list all my contributions (which I will scrape before I give the signal).
for the record: Fatboy Slim on the left ear and bad light jazz on the right with a muffin and orange juice (fighting colds, yeah?) is kind of an odd sensation overall ... I suggest you all try to replicate it at some point on your bucket list
Sad to see you go @Pekka. I think that so long as SO exists, it is too easy to sign in with another email.
Might be worth it to ask for suspension, as mentioned earlier.
Like that you can't log on even if you wanted. Ask for a two or tree week break. See if your still interested in logging on after that. If you still have the urge, try one more suspension. If all else fails, then be more drastic.
From what I read in the transcript you just want to not be on SO all hours of the morning.
@Moshe mmm, I would do that if I were staying in the business, and just looking to reduce my SO presence. But I'm truly leaving the craft, and getting rid of the rep is a necessary part of that :)
They should totally have a list of "retired users" that don't show up on the active user lists but that stay in the system. Or is that what's being proposed?

Also, I'm not sure why you have an issue with a stagnant account. SO will move on until normal rep levels are upper 10S of Ks. So you won't be a standout for ever.
@Moshe yeah, but I somehow don't like it. It's like you have an unused bicycle in your flat (that you plan on never using anymore) - my instinct is to get rid of it
Anyways, regardless whatever drama or inner turmoil, you know that the sane ones of us are always happy to see someone pursue their goals. If this is a goal of yours @Pekka, I'm happy for you and wish you the best, but of course.
@drachenstern thank you! Re knowledge in head: In a way, my year on SO was an act of handing over some of the information :) Although I learned a lot more than I gave away, in a way
