Q: In all chats, "[Chat.SE]" expands to a Server Fault link

Lightness Races in OrbitAs the title says. Write "[Chat.SE] roflcopter" in the input box. Press enter. Chat message appears, rendered as "Server Fault roflcopter". Roflcopter.

so all my questions and answers were down voted by a user with VERY high rep. What can I do?
also was accused of being a troll by the same user
anyone active in here?
well over 200k rep

If the is a serial downvoting it will be usually be detected and reversed.

oh cool
yeah he down voted munch of them within seconds of each other

12:22 AM
You can just suspect it is the user you are talking about, so if you want to report it to stackoverflow.com/contact just describe the situation from your point.

just counted and he down voted 28 questions and answer in 3 minutes
thanks. i saw that on meta and have already sent an email

user202362
A lot of the times I look at those legitimate maths and physics questions, I could not but feel depressed about how much knowledge that I have once known but forgotten.

Avoid to accuse someone, you can express a suspicion, but you can't be sure, stay polite.

will do

It looks obvious serial downvoted ... I suspect it will be reversed soon.

12:27 AM
@khuderm Yeah, that should definitely get reversed by the serial voting detector script. If not, report it as a bug. But reporting it to the mods/staff is also a good idea, because they can look into it and (at least) tell the user who did it to stop. Honestly, if it's really a 200k+ user, then they should know better.

yeah once I realized there were a series of down votes I was a little unsure as to what to do. jumped on meta and did some research. reported to the staff. came here to see if there is more that i can do.

ROFLKoptr

for me that much reputation gave me a little scare. you're right he should have know better but what scared me more was the thought "what else can he do to me? he has so much more privileges with that amount of rep"
thank you guys for your help

@khuderm I am skeptical about whether he would be so stupid as to do something at + 200k, but you always can trust the mods / staff.

12:57 AM
@bummi I am pretty sure it is him. I remember his rep before the down vote. I saw my rep initially and went to my profile to investigate. Of course I couldn't see exactly who it was. I assumed it was him and went to his profile to see his rep down by quite a lot. I could be totally wrong and could be accusing the wrong person. But like you said, the mods/staff can be trusted. I just hope that he was just having a bad day and overreacted a little.

Q: When higher grades are more common than lower grades

MaesumiThe usual assumption in education is that grades follow some sort of normal curve. My question is about situations where the grade distribution curve is a rising one. More A's than B's, and more B's than C's, etc. In educational setting: Is there a name for this situation? Are there studies or me...

Meh, I think if you don't have a (ignoring the bottom 10% and top 5%) single modal left-skewed disto you're probably doing something wrong.

What I was trying to get at is that the OP doesn't need to specifically contact an SE employee; a regular mod flag is good enough for migration (on any site).

@S.L.Barth thanks! Downvotes should probably remain though, as he's wrong about spam.
@rene so you flag it. He gets to handle the flag. You lose. :D

Hadn't voted on it. And at the current state there's hardly a need to downvote it further. I'd rather wait to see if this gets improved.

(can such a comment be changed at all, without nuking the whole commit?)
@S.L.Barth yup, me too. Though for me it was "only" -3 or so when answering.

8:47 PM
Meta can be very harsh that way. The question isn't that bad, it's just making some wrong assumptions.

@S.L.Barth famous last words of many people on MSE, yup
But like on SO, I want to believe this is a barrier that help to retain at least some quality in the bug reports, feature requests, etc
Otherwise if anything will be upvoted blindly, MSE will become a messy jungle

Downvotes are simply needed, both on the main sites and on the metas.
Still, I think we're seeing the limits of what community moderation can do well.

@S.L.Barth True. Nothing is perfect...

It's a problem of scale. And maybe a problem of having grown too fast.
If a site audience grows linearly, the new members can be shown the ropes by the existing members.
But linear growth is hardly the norm on the internet, I think.
I've always enjoyed showing new users how the site works, but there are so many of them.
Conversely, we have acquired a great deal of rules on this site - that are obvious to us, but not to newcomers.

@ShadowWizard I think this is a re-post from earlier but I couldn't find it in the transcript, WTF seems common at SE

9:01 PM
@rene lol, SE team going wild....
@S.L.Barth yeah, and usually I tend to try and explain, but admit that not always

@ShadowWizard HATS ARE AWESOME. Winter Bash will begin in 1 day, 2 hours, 53 minutes and 6 seconds. :D

I've been thinking about this lately, but I haven't come up with any good ideas.

@S.L.Barth nothing we can do, I fear - that's just how MSE always was, and unless major part of the veteran users leave, it won't change.

Just ask, and I leave

I don't think that MSE will get better if the veterans leave.

9:11 PM
@S.L.Barth never said better, just that only then things can change :)
(and without flowers, it will just become too gray ;))

Both true :-)

9:47 PM
Huh... is it just me, or did the chat reply links just break for everyone?
It still works in another tab that I haven't refreshed. o_O
> TypeError: e.messageId is not a function
Hmm, yeah, looks like the latest chat JS update broke something.

Seems you're right, just refreshed the Tavern tab and I have the same problem.

-  function O() {
-    var e = $(this).closest('.message').messageId(),
-    t = $('#input').focus().val().replace(/^:([0-9]+)\s+/, '');
-    r(':' + e + ' ' + t).focus()
+  function U(e) {
+    e = e || $(this).closest('message');
+    var t = e.messageId(),
+    n = $('#input').focus().val().replace(/^:([0-9]+)\s+/, '');
+    r(':' + t + ' ' + n).focus()
   }
This change looks like the likely culprit. /cc @balpha

@IlmariKaronen yup, broken indeed

(Of course, it would be easier to debug stuff like this if we could actually view the unminified source somehow... wink, wink, nudge.)
