Does anyone else in FF and chrome have the last item under Questions being cluttered with Ask Question on photo.stackexchange.com/questions
Nothing stands out under Chrome ...
Chromium 34.0.1847.116 on Ubuntu
Version 35.0.1916.153 m of Chrome. But no repro.
It doesn't repro in IE11
aka, for once it works in IE11
#header.headeranon #hmenus .askquestion {
    top: 92px;
}
.askquestion {
    left: 0;
    position: absolute;
    top: 114px;
}
That top: 92px shouldn't be there
Also repro'd on FF 30.0
@rene Adding !important to the top: 114px in .askquestion fixes it; looks like it's being overridden by the other top
15:11
I'm told to never use !important
That should be removed anyway, the menu is exactly the same for anonymous users.
Repro on Chrome 37.
Yeah, just kill the first 3 lines in that code you posted
Do I need to post a bug on meta.photo or is it reported now?
Post a bug.
15:13
OK
@rene Actually don't

Q: Ask question/unanswered links are superimposed when logged out on the main site

alexwlchanIf I’m not logged in on the main site, then the “Unanswered” and “Ask question” links are superimposed in the menu in the header. Here’s a screenshot which illustrates the behaviour: Hovering over the superimposed item, the “Ask question” link gets highlighted. The behaviour doesn’t occur on ...

Ah,
I was looking at the bugs but disn't find that one...
@rene You should post an answer about how to fix it
I posted a comment and pinged Abby, maybe she'll poke a designer/dev
Nah, the comment from tim will do
15:17
SEDE still has a button for MyOpenID
Shhhh
SHHHHH
Yeah, I know.
Some authentication changes are in the pipe. Probably going to encourage authing via the SE API anyway since it lets us do more useful things, with supported OpenID/Oauth providers as a fallback.
Hmm have to update the Google provider too now that they've switched to stupid OpenID Connect. Gross.
@rene went for "debug/must include code"
user202362
It annoys me that every time I am trying to log on to the chat, it re-directs me to the main site after I log in ...
user202362
15:26
minor issue really ...
It shouldn't...
@chmod711telkitty probably annoyed dev did some hack especially for you ;)
user202362
yeah right ... flattered. although it is more likely that you never tried to clear cookies on your browser :p
Cookies? I eat cookies, not clearing them! :D
repro-ed... it looks like the returnurl gets eaten on the way back
15:29
@rene I smell MSE rep on its way.... ;)
well, there is one other post about a login/logout bug and one post from Shog9 so I'm not sure if this is related
user202362
eat cookies? like ... this?
user202362
@rene not sure then post away worst case it'll get closed as dupe :)
(says not to flag link-only answers)
15:34
@chmod711telkitty while looking for better picture I stumbled over this one. Now that's funny!
Anyway, time expired, got to go.
bye @ShadowWizard
user202362

15:55
@chmod711telkitty are you using an SE account for logging in in chat?
I think this describes the issue...
@3ventic Tnx, fixed it...

"How do I foo the bar?" "Use jQuery." That meets your criteria for non-VLQ? — bjb568 27 mins ago
@bjb568 That would be a library suggestion, not a method suggestion
But jQuery is a method.
For everything.
it's a library / framework
So?
What if it was "How can a render a cube?" "Use 3.js"?
so it doesn't point to a solution
17:20
jQuery (and plugins) solves all world problems.
"Any post that attempts to answer the question, however badly is still an answer."
"how do I drive a nail into the wall" - "the toolbox is in the basement"
I know that's a comment and should be and I do recommend deletion, but it is still an attempt.
Can you offer a better definition?
Of an attempt?
Trying to help find a solution.
"Use jQuery" is.
If say the criterion is "does it point to a solution?", "use jQuery" still fits.
17:26
Yes.
And it disturbs me that some people refuse to delete those answers.
I guess the best answer to asking for a perfect NAA definition is "use your brain"
:2189363 still?
user163250
@Bart oops, I said "delete" votes...what I meant to say was "downvotes".
"Answer the question
Read the question carefully. What, specifically, is the question asking for? Make sure your answer provides that – or a viable alternative. The answer can be “don’t do that”, but it should also include “try this instead”. Any answer that gets the asker going in the right direction is helpful, but do try to mention any limitations, assumptions or simplifications in your answer. Brevity is acceptable, but fuller explanations are better."
user163250
@JanDvorak yes I'm still out, but no, that particular answer isn't a problem anymore.
@Cupcake What do you think the virtually unlimited VLQs are for?
17:30
@bjb568 Good one. Offer that to Martjin.
@bjb568 VLQs, which you have 100 of if you're a veteran, is virtually unlimited with respect to downvotes, which you have 30-40 of from the very beginning?
Yes. When out of downvotes, half of the home page can still be VLQ'd.
@bjb568 No. VLQ is saying this can never be salvaged. If it's worthy of a downvote/closevote, that does not automatically make it VLQ worthy.
@bjb568 Other options include Youtube, Twitch.tv, 2048, nature...
@hichris123 Half the homepage.
@bjb568 Somehow I doubt half of the homepage should be deleted instantly...
17:37
(exaggerations on the internet)
Anyway, closing is the only thing VLQ actually does on questions.
@bjb568 Please read the VLQ description...
@JanDvorak 300 character answers only work for bad questions which don't deserve answers. — bjb568 36 secs ago
@bjb568 ... ???
hey people
@Second I know what it's for, but functionally, they only get closed.
17:41
hello
hi
@JanDvorak If the answer is just "Make #somediv inline-block. This makes it be like a block (rectangle with a width and height), but it will still be on the same line as inline or inline-block elements before it. [link to mdn]", then it should be closed as a dup of canonical inline-block reference.
@bjb568 how long will the canonical answer be?
More detailed.
Like more than 600 chars.
Those would be "good answers", but you said "work for"
Bad answers to popular questions aren't automatically NAA
17:44

A: What is the difference between display: inline and display: inline-block?

splattneA visual answer Imagine a <span> element inside a <div>. If you give the <span> element a height of 100px and a red border for example, it will look like this with. display: inline display: inline-block display: block Code: http://jsfiddle.net/Mta2b/ Elements with display:inline-bloc...

@JanDvorak No, the point is not to delete the bad answers on the canonical dup, it is to have one for the purpose of having one good answer.
@bjb568 the last answer on that question is NAA
Yes.
@bjb568 the point of that meta question is to define non-answers, not good answers.
user163250
I gave this guy the opportunity to answer this question earlier, but he still got it wrong: stackoverflow.com/questions/24720975/…
user163250
<facepalm>
17:47
@Cupcake is this a downvote-request?
user163250
No.
user163250
Just pointing out the fail :P
user163250
I need to stop using downvotes so liberally on questions.
user163250
Because I won't have enough for when I really need them: downvoting bad answers :P
17:48
@JanDvorak Some types of answers that can be under 600 chars are comments. Some of them are pointers to a bad question. A bad question like that is probably best closed as a dup of a canonical reference. The canonical reference's purpose is to have a good explanation to a variety of questions about that concept so the bad questions can be closed as dup so the bad answers can be prevented.
Spend less time on SO :-)
user163250
@JanDvorak yeah, that too :P
@bjb568 Bad answers don't imply bad questions
@JanDvorak If an answer is under 600 chars it is either bad (i.e. NAA, convert to comment) or good (i.e. the question is so bad that a 600 char answer answers it).
You can't imply that an answer shorter than 300 characters to a question that becomes insanely popular is NAA.
17:51
Why not?
@bjb568 it can be bad without being NAA bad.
The 10kers have complained before of popular questions and hundreds of deleted answers on the bottom. I think they are NAA bad.
Do you have a specific example that you want to discuss further?
Every protected question?
I do remember the 2048 question having a lot of deleted answers
I'm not complaining, I just never got to ask for an explanation.
17:54
Not every answer under 600 should be deleted, but at least 9 out of 10 of them point to something wrong.
The point of definitions is to apply to "every" subject. If you want to go probabilistically - how frequent are the "try [library]" non-answers?
Well that's link-only (if there even is a link to the code) and incomplete (no explanation of how to use the code unless there's the docs which is also a link (which usually isn't directly linked to anyway)). All the time, convert to comment.
(assuming it only says "try [library]")
are they link-only according to martjin's definition?
Unless they are "use jQuery" on a C++ question, it's probably at least an attempt to be helpful, so no.

Will moderators enforce removing "hope this helps" and signatures from posts?: stackoverflow.com/questions/7861184/…
user163250
I'm reluctant to edit that one out because the OP has a history of not liking that and rolling back edits.
Do it. If the user behaves badly, get a mod to help.
Too much of that is enough for a short suspension.
@bjb568 I want to see that in action

That's a shame.
user163250
Looks like more women are answering now though, which is cool.
@JanDvorak The deleted question that had over a hundred rollbacks (OP basically wanted the hot question deleted) got OP 10 years of suspension.
user163250
I'm still looking forward to Anna's answer though.
It's hard for non-10kers to do anything.
@bjb568 I mean, for rolling back thanks
NAA the answers too.
That, too
@bjb568 too broad?
Too broad, unclear, apparently simple typo?
I dunno, I just see no question and a wall of code.
user163250
19:31
@hichris123 how do you know that that's spam?
@Cupcake It used to be. ;P (got nuked) it was an answer saying "minecruft gift cards"... something like that.
user163250
Oh, I see.
user163250
There was one like that on some other exchange too I think.
Any one an xcode/ios interface builder that can check if I didn't screw up this edit: stackoverflow.com/questions/24270078/…
That is in the context of this meta.so question
Ah, looks like there is more context needed...
Ok, I screwed up..

I'm actually conflicted on this duplicate: stackoverflow.com/questions/2510276/undoing-git-reset

I guess the advertising revenue off of scrapers must be lucrative enough despite the high risk of getting caught.
@animuson You've done that before?

When the original SO post is in the same search results as the scraper, it's kind of obvious who copied from who...
@hichris123 I remember when someone asked about Heartbleed on MSO/MSE, and tagged it as .
