Quite the shit storm brewing on that question.

user163250
But that one is one its way out the door soon :P

So is the answer on the other one
@Ajax Stack Exchange is not a forum. Stack Overflow/Exchange was designed to be a good resource for programming issues, rather than a forum. — hichris123 16 secs ago
that guy's comment isn't very nice
user163250
Meh, whatever.
user163250
It's not the worst thing that someone could've said.
At this point of definitions, a news site or blog with comments is also a forum

This "thread" delivers! Thanks for the drama. Maybe SO is a forum. :/ — George Marian 45 secs ago

@GeorgeMarian see, this is exactly why discussion is discouraged on Stack Overflow :P — Cupcake 15 secs ago
Because people can see exactly how baseless some of your dimwitted conclusions are? — Ajax 17 secs ago
should I flag for "dimwitted"?
user163250
Again, this has nothing to do with intended design! Stack overflow is composed of user generated posts, and that's all that matters. And the time-independent component is vital. Google "what is a forum" and almost all results refer to that part. And finally, @Cupcake, it's "whose" not "who's." I will repeat this again: it's about function, NOT INTENT! — user1822552 1 min ago
user163250
04:40
???
user163250
@JanDvorak I kind of just want to see how far this will go.
user163250
I've already flagged the whole question for mod attention anyways.
user163250
Now it's just pure entertainment until the police arrive.
@user1822552 in which case this question would be not only too broad (a close reason), but also a resource recommendation request (also a close reason), and maybe even primarily opinion based (also a close reason). May I dare say it's unclear to me what the question is? (Also a close reason) — Jan Dvorak 55 secs ago
Everyone flag the dimwitted comment! Then it'll auto-delete!
04:44
@hichris123 the one with two upvotes?
A flyover to nuke the entire set of forumy/chatty comments soon
Depends on the mood of the mod stepping in, if they've just woken or getting ready to slam that pillow hard full of dreams and dead scalp flakes
Really, the whole question should just be nuked. ;p
Yeah, all of these comments should go. That mod should just press the nuke all button.
user163250
@hichris123 I was considering voting to delete, but I wanted to give the OP the opportunity to possibly narrow the question scope first.
user163250
But I guess that's not going to happen now :P
04:49
Indeed. Too bad I can't delvote yet
user163250
@hichris123 is there really a nuke all button?
user163250
Oh, I guess that would just be "delete question", huh?
user163250
Unless comments get cleaned out too?
@Cupcake There is also a Purge All Comments function.
user163250
Ah.

user163250

It'll probably get reposted
Alright, drama's over.

> It's not asking for a resource recommendation, it's asking for help determining the programmatic pathway for a task - not even the code itself. That eliminates all three of your arguments and proves that you lack both the ability to read critically and calls into question your ability to read at all.
you need 20k to delete immediately

@Cupcake these can only be flagged as Other or waited out.
Oh. The answer. Why is it so bad?

user163250

user163250
@animuson how do you see expired votes?
@Cupcake the bottom one is predefined for all sites
@Cupcake Because they added the one above it as a way for users to select "blatantly off-topic" on Meta. If you have full vote-to-close privileges, you don't see the "blatantly off-topic" thing, only the one above it.
@Cupcake I guess his diamond helps

A: What are the major differences between Ruby 1.9.3 and Ruby 2.0.0

dbenhurHere's a nice fairly detailed writeup. Also see the release announcement. Despite the major version number change Ruby 2.0 is a pretty small delta from 1.9.3 (more like a a 1.9.4) and is highly compatible with 1.9.x except for a few fairly obscure areas.

user163250
That answer literally says nothing.
@Cupcake it says "not much"
user163250
Except for, "yeah, 1.9.3 is slightly different than 2.0"
user163250
Is it possible to delete accepted answers?
yes
mods don't like to do it, though, on the basis of "better than nothing"
@Doorknob the fact that you have a factory factory is a WTF, but the primary WTF here is that you create a new factory each time you use one of its products.
also, SingletonFactory is an oxymoron.

Suddenly ... a thought hit me ... that most of the monsters in fairy tales/fantasies are ediable!
*edible, or *editable?
or *ediate?
user202362
edible ...
how do you know they are not poisonous for human consumption?
Moreover, larger animals tend to have tougher meat
(also, tougher skin, but what's a broken sword or two in exchange for days of food?)
hmm, SEDE said it updated 1 hour ago, but it isn't...
user202362
1st, not many fairy tales/fantasy ever mention the monsters are not edible ... besides how many creatures on earth do you know are not edible - part of them are not edible, yes, but usually there are bits and pieces that can be served as dinner (after been prepared properly)
05:48
some creatures are really hard to capture for consumptioon
user202362
I said they are edible, I did not say they are easy to catch ...
then there are materialised spiritual beings
user202362
think about it, dragons might just taste like chickens, but larger ...
that was quick, SEDE is updated now
user202362
05:51
orcs might taste like wild boars ... someone told me wild boars are delicious ...
rather, consider how hard is to cut beef. Then consider how much bigger is a dragon than a cow.
The scales make up for great armor if you manage to obtain those (at which point you probably already have great armor), though
would you eat elephant meat?
user202362
I tried crocodile meat and vension before ... also tried dog, rabbit, snake & donkey before. I did not climb all the way to the top of food chain to eat rabbit food ... although being fair, I have never killed food personally.
if you ate it first and said it was good , yea
I want to try out grasshoppers
user202362

I was wondering if it was a bureaucracy issue.
will the government complain if you eat your pet?
user202362
RSPCA probably would ...
user202362
06:11
although they euthanize thousands of unwanted animals themselves
user202362
when you think about it, it is pretty stupid
06:23
It's actually very surprising that RSPCA doesn't complain about industrial slaughterhouses

While we're at it, some downvotes on this question would be nice too: stackoverflow.com/questions/24449261/…
@Cupcake and everyone, this was a perfectly valid question back at the time and it's still helping people around the world. Please, we can and should close it as it's no longer on topic, but please don't downvote it just because of this.
@ShadowWizard shouldn't we downvote because of shady intentions?
@JanDvorak no. I'm from Israel so if I ask how to guide a missile does it mean I'm going to launch it on civilians? Come on.
oh well.
what about because of the lack of detail about the asker's situation?
@JanDvorak that wasn't required back when the question was asked, the OP is not to blame. Closing the question should be enough, IMO.
07:13
@ShadowWizard It's more the "Shadow Wizard" part that makes me suspicious of missile questions .... ;)
I'm not saying upvote it, but also don't downvote to oblivion just because the rules changed so much in those years.
Noted. Should we vote based on the current standards, or based on the standards of when the question was asked, however?
@Bart yeah, I'll keep in mind to use a sock for those questions ;)
:D
@JanDvorak if you ask me, no need to vote such old questions - answers are different. But again, it's just me and my opinion, not forcing anyone just trying to explain. :)
07:18
@ShadowWizard actually, I'm wondering if I should apply the old standards to new potentially useful questions that are not duplicates.
I have noted that it's mostly the bad guys who keep changing their name. IRL criminals, a former javascript troll sbaaaang / okok / few other names, the guy who ignores everyone in here...
user163250
@ShadowWizard I think we might have our questions confused?
user163250
This one I didn't downvote, I just wanted closed: stackoverflow.com/questions/5165768/…
user163250
This one I want closed and downvoted: stackoverflow.com/questions/24449261/…
user163250

user163250
I don't downvote based on the usage of answers to a question.
user163250
07:26
I downvote for the quality of questions, period.
@Cupcake I guess it wouldn't have been a bad question in 09's standards?
@JanDvorak no, I agree that new question showing no research effort should be downvoted as the OP should have known better. No more excuses. :)
@ShadowWizard how should new general reference questions be posted, then?
AKA dupe targets
@JanDvorak yeah, that's interesting... though the last you mentioned isn't a bad guy, just a very, very, VERY stubborn guy who won't accept anything that doesn't fit with his own opinion.
@ShadowWizard true...
07:31
@Cupcake well, others took it as a chance to downvote then... but yeah, guess you didn't mean it originally.
@JanDvorak I fear those might not fit the current Stack Overflow, so closed and probably downvotes on their way down.
@ShadowWizard then it is SO that should change. These canonical duplicates help closing the other questions that don't show any research.
Are there any obviously good guys that have changed their name? I can think of Jacob/Israel and Abram/Abraham, but they have been renamed by God.
Hmm... the artist formerly known as Prince isn't an Evil Guy^(tm).
@JanDvorak I think trying to change SO is a lost cause... but yeah, agree there should be exceptions to the strict rules.
@JanDvorak not sure what you mean? Change their name in what sense?
@ShadowWizard picking a new nick counts as well, I guess, if you discontinue using the old one.
@JanDvorak well, even @Pops changed his nick after being hired as CM. (formerly he was Popular Demand ;))
true.
Will/Won't?
I could make an automated way to grep for these (an at-notification pointing at someone who isn't there)
07:48
Well @Jan I also changed my nick on Meta, more than once. Were you around back then? ;)
I do remember Sha Wiz Dow Art
not sure if I should count nick permutations, though, as they don't really attempt to hide any past identity.
@JanDvorak eh, good point. So if I'll change my nick to Bart will this make me a bad person? :-D
@ShadowWizard I guess so ;-)
hmm... tempting!
08:10
Note to self: Unity's asset server will one day cause me to punch inanimate objects
Are you OK, @Bart? :)
Between a rock and a hard place ...grrr
But really, you commit something, somewhere the server crashes, you relaunch it, and then it says "Ah, those 10GB of scripts and data in your project .... yeah, I don't know those. Please just check out the entire repo" ....
And that's not a "once in a blue moon" kind of deal.
yeah, nasty business, no doubt.
is it free at least?
$500 per seat @JanDvorak
08:15
throw it all to the nearest trash can and start anew, @Bart? :D
^
I would not pay that much for something that can't even hold my data to hold my data.
Hah, I wish. I'd go for SVN or Git or whatever, but the end user will be artists and non-technical people. So it has to be "artist-friendly". The asset server gets close to that. And I really don't relish the idea of writing a wrapper around a Git or SVN that is fool proof.
TortoiseSVN isn't too unfriendly
@JanDvorak we're not on the same wavelength where it concerns the capabilities of the end user ;)
Most software engineers consider them being artists...

user163250
And it doesn't address the fact that the OP seems to want to delete the symbolic HEAD reference from his remote.
I'm not yet at 20K so I can't delete answers... :(
09:33
@Cupcake I've at least attributed it now. So should it not get deleted, the author of the book does at least get the credit he deserves.
user163250
09:46
@Bart thanks, the OP deleted it himself. It wasn't a good answer anyways, it didn't really address the actual issue of the question.
Problem solved. I find it often works like that. OP's don't really like it when you add full attribution to their answers :D
10:08
the error messages that SEDE throws at me are less than useful...
After all that I've done... Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.
And it doesn't even show me the execution plan until I manage it to execute in time...
even EXPLAIN SELECT times out...
Weird
