@AndreascondemnsIsrael and everything you need to get started
If you're desoldering something, touch of flux, heat up the solder, apply braid which sucks it up, snip the braid, and repeat. I did an entire keyboard like that :D
@AndreascondemnsIsrael If a dog has to be dragging to its training you can probably safely assume it doesn't want to go and if it is very obviously eager to go you can probably assume it does
@AndreascondemnsIsrael Obviously the dog can't fully understand but still
> As the technology to re-enter the atmosphere had not yet been developed, Laika's survival was never expected. She died of hyperthermia hours into the flight, on the craft's fourth orbit.
@JourneymanGeek Hence you should've just started your post with "Yeah, but you don't have the attention span to do anything about what I'm about to write, so I'm not sure why I'm wasting this time". ;) :P
@AndreascondemnsIsrael Well he certainly lived up to what communism actually is...
@AndreascondemnsIsrael Did they know about the hyperthermia in advance (also the hyperthermia was probably because Laika burned up on reentry)
@cocomac Absolutely nothing that CEO did could possibly justifying random murder and anyone who thinks that otherwise clearly has no moral compass...its serious sickening that so many people support murder
Your country has death penalty, that's no less gross if you ask me. ;) (Assuming the guy was a horrible person; didn't read up on it (yes, I saw the Wikipedia article one of you linked. Didn't read it)).
The argument is generally that, because he's the CEO of a health insurance company, that he has a hand in some peoples' deaths since this particular company has a higher percentage of declined claims, leading to uncovered medical expenses.
I find the whole health insurance business pretty digusting and offputting. It shouldn't exist in the first place. Killing a CEO doesn't really build a public health system.
Unless, of course, he's a big actuator of corruption and/or lobbyism.
I don't know, if you're in a desperate situation, stuck below a hard rock, sometimes calling for a death is the only viable option you can imagine.
Sending a missile on certain world leaders sounds mildly effective. At least more effective than sitting on the sideline only being able to protest with words against their crimes.
Even for a small country like my own, there are things we can do. Unfortunately, or government is too scared to do anything. Now where does a missile fit on that spectrum. Oh, right, way further on it.
How'd I get this association, again?
Speaking of health insurance, I can't get that. I'm not eligible. I sure do hope the local political wind turns around, because I ain't looking forward to more destruction of our public healthcare system.
@AndreascondemnsIsrael Death penalty is generally used for mass murders or something like that, thats different than an innocent guy who just owned a company
@JourneymanGeek And you propose murder to be a valid solutation to a disagreement on some semantics of a claim and a company being a company being a company and optimising its business
@JourneymanGeek Innocent means "did nothing deserving the punishment given", in the same way that murdering someone who insults you, while maybe not totally innocent, is not ok
@JourneymanGeek Why? A company being a being a company is just how it works. In the same way I don't expect people to not file for insurance money out of a sense of charity to their insurance company
@VLAZ Pork ribs are the best. But, well, I'll be celebrating with my family, like usual, and my sister and dad demand lamb ribs. Lamb's great. Unfortunately, the ribs are the least great part of lamb.
ah, the difference between Charlotte and Slate is HUGE. Slate responds to people, while the other CM's last comment on MSE was, wait for it... two and half years ago. So why on Earth should I waste my time giving feedback???
I just know I won't get any response. Ah, so annoying.
@ShadowWizard That's why I think parts of the community management model are broken. As the network got bigger there is more back end stuff, but they also need people who can connect to, communicate and actually thrive on meta
@JourneymanGeek Because we were talking about the big goat of life before. And the big turkey of dinner. But for my Christmas dinner, it'd be just a standard pig.
One thing is a conversation in chat. That's informal. It's optional. Nothing has to come out of it. But a full-length discussion on Meta? Over and over again? It's just wasting peoples' time, effort and trust.
@ElementsInSpace I was thinking of the goat being Shub-Niggurath. But I'm open to alternatives. I don't know what an Abraxas is. But the pig is just a pig.
@JourneymanGeek Then why spend time on it in the first place? They know/knew perfectly well that none of these repeated discussions will actually lead somewhere. They know their own company's goals.
I don't have enough data. Maybe they're working on a related project. Maybe they just want to know. Maybe they're frustrated and they too enjoy yelling into the void.
@AndreascondemnsIsrael I'd also turn that around. I'm here cause I believe certain aspects of the network are worth saving. If I believe its without hope, I'd want to build something better, not spend my effort tearing down ruins
@JourneymanGeek A quick suggestion: you are not going anywhere with any argument that involves two parties who disagree on this. They won't make you change your mind, you won't change theirs. And to be fair, some (like me) would even argue that it makes no sense to think about them as a single entity (they are two separate realities with clear separate objectives: Prosus and Stack Exchange)
@ꓢPArcheon More that stack exchange as an independent entity has been dysfunctional, with different parts of the company pulling in different directions
@AndreascondemnsIsrael Dr. Andreas and Mister Shadow?
@JourneymanGeek well I don't know the internal workings, and how come each CM is so different, I blame whatever cause this, yeah.
And major reason for being unable to trust the company itself anymore, is that even though I like Slate and trust her, she can simply disappear one day from SE, and we're back in square 1. It's just not enough. And I know she wants to change it and make SE really better, but sadly don't think she can.
(and have that nagging feeling that if/when she tries too hard, she'll meet The Boot. Shog images come to mind)
So what's on my mind currently? Better sit back and watch the place burn than getting into the fire and getting burned yourself. :D
@AndreascondemnsIsrael guess they can define any military operation done by IDF over the years as such, and I did take part in at least one. (2006, I think, keep forgetting)
@ShadowWizard Individual soldiers don't tend to get prosecuted, unless you happened to storm into a village and abuse everyone in front of their families.
@ShadowWizard Ok... In that case I wonder how many civilians you killed.
@ShadowWizard Causes permanent damage on constructions and items, too. Vehicles, buildings, parks, roads, etc.
If it's Gaza we're talking about, you're effectively destroying infrastructure for civilians; it's their city, and they got nowhere to relocate to after the war. It's just... sad.
@JourneymanGeek Sure it is. It's tossed over a long distance.
Unlike with a tank gun, you tend to fire in a straighter line.
@AndreascondemnsIsrael TLDR: malaysia kicked us out, and constantly gets salty over 1) us selling water back to them cheaper than they can process it 2) some rock
@AndreascondemnsIsrael We are friends with both emutopia and kiwiand!
Yeah, but, well, I think our new artillery has a range of 30 or 40 with standard shells. And with the experience from Ukraine, you want to fire at max range. But then again, that's an artillery-driven war, where you'll get retaliation shots by enemy artillery as soon as your position is revealed.
But a lower distance is probably reasonable if there's no threat to the artillery.
and you also learn to work with the community on the ground. These are - from someone who's a moderator, and got talked into applying to being a CM by a more than one ex-staffer, acquired, and honed skills
@ShadowWizard Well, I'd say to some extent mentorship, to some extent minimal coverage on that front
I mean, there's people who come into it with a certain degree of seemingly effortless skills :D
(Aarthi comes to mind as far as the CMs go, and Megan, the former product manager who SE stole from google, then they stole back)
