@Slate @Vanny Welcome!
And good to see them hiring from the community again ^^

Thanks for the welcome :)

@Luuklag, just a "for your information" - I would have rejected your edit as No Improvement or possibly Against Author's Intent. It's too small for me to bother rolling back, though.
@bobble seems to be a reasonable removal of noise
I figured a small amount of noise was okay since it's all over other meta posts here.
To paraphrase something misattributed to Machiavelli....
'Thou shalt not hunt salutations but need no to strive officiously to keep them around'
As I said, not fighting it.
and this seems to bear repeating here, too

Maybe when I wake up I'll have reputation notifications. If not, then I'll know the bug I just reported wasn't fixed yet :D
5:25 AM
We're offline again.
... and we're back.
You could always drop by [the tavern](chat.meta.stackexchange.com/rooms/89/tavern-on-the-m‌eta ) if you want to. Plenty of <strikethrough>people who donโ€™t sleep</strikethrough> great people there — Ekadh Singh 9 hours ago
Hello, it's me, someone who doesn't sleep
How's everyone doing?
Bah, it's not that late for you... I'm the one who doesn't sleep ;P
@Catija It's my first day back from vacation! It's late enough for me :P
I didn't intend to be up this late but coworking with a toddler didn't work great today ๐Ÿ˜…
Ah, yes... toddlers. :D
If it's not 5-6am it's not late. ๐Ÿ˜€
5:33 AM
Depends on how early you have to get up.
7:30a, but that isn't terrible?
Yeah, I get up at 7... though it depends on when the 2.75 y/o wakes up sometimes. He often decides to "cuddle" which means no one gets any sleep
@KylePollard Not sleeping! Although that's normal at this time even for people who aren't me.
Fair enough! I'm west coast too so I guess you're right that most aren't sleeping, but I'm usually a lame parent in bed by now ๐Ÿ˜…
My husband is the one who does the morning stuff - he's always been more of a morning person, so he goes to bed around 10 and wakes up early, usually before the kids, and I get to sleep in... though I still probably don't get enough sleep.
5:51 AM
I was not a morning person but then I got hired on a team that works mostly on New York time so ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ
And here I am, already having dropped the kids off at daycare :)
Timezones, strange things those are
So is it really late evenings / middle of the night for you guys now?
Google turns up an enormous list of similar jobs, that pay a few K per month:
10:53pm here in British Columbia ๐Ÿฅฑ
@KylePollard not too bad, I was still at work at that point yesteday :(
5:54 AM
@Luuklag nearly 1 am for me. I enjoy the quiet of the late hours.
And already up since 6am. Now 2 hours later time to start my first meeting
@Catija hope you didn't leave your laptop with your husband this tome around ;)
Yeah I'm loving having a flexible work schedule, late night coding is entirely self imposed ๐Ÿ˜…
@Luuklag That would be a neat trick, since I'm currently typing on it. :P
@Catija yeah Injust remember an iccasion we shouldn't ping you as not to wake your husband ;)
That ping noise is terrifying
5:58 AM
I always mutey chat tab
The ping noise is only rivaled by the wheel of blame song on our internal chat - it does a literal song and dance and is very loud and very scary to hear while you're in a meeting
@KylePollard yeah, or when the daycare tells you to pick up your kids because one of them has a cough
@Luuklag My toddler starts daycare for the first time next month, very worried for all of the future bugs ๐Ÿ˜ญ
@Luuklag The computer is currently muted. :D
@KylePollard Especially when you forgot you had that tab open and you can't find it. :P
@KylePollard coding bugs, our childrens bugs ;)
6:01 AM
@Luuklag pun was intended :)
haha, well it should give you some time during the day ;)
@KylePollard Yeah, same. I don't sleep either.
@Philippe you also got a toddler keeping you from work?
I have five guinea pigs.
No toddlers
And they are adorable.
6:04 AM
That they are.
In ways that toddlers often aren't.
they don't throw up on me, for instance
Well, that's a win.
its' the small victories
Are we trying to find the lowest criteria of what is nice about kids?
6:07 AM
Sounds good to me. :P
Is there anything nice about them? :P
Very neat and clean animals, for pigs:
Actually I was just stoping in to say hi and make sure everyone saw our new hires announced (but of course, @Catija will have handled that).
And since this is in danger of turning into a staff chat, I'll bail out and go polish my roadmap post :P
6:08 AM
Polish, polish!
@Philippe The one about the quarter that is almost finished? ;)
It's not even 1/3 complete.
@Catija wax on, wax off!
The quarter thet we're 1/3 of the way through.
Yeah I know, was just teasing you.
6:09 AM
And FWIW, I had to fight to get it on the calendar this soon. They tried to push me off for three more weeks!
@Luuklag You have an interestingly aligned quarter system :-p
Don't worry, there's still lots of time left in the year!

LuuklagThanks for the update. I can't help but notice that this was posted on April 23rd, at the end of the day - meaning that almost a third of the quarter has already passed. This appears to be somewhat of a recurring theme. Perhaps you could focus on starting these roadmap discussions somewhat earlie...

@Philippe so a 1/3 of what you put in the roadmap is already accomplished! You can take credit for that!
Rene, if only it worked that way
Hey, in my defense, I was hired the first week of the quarter.
6:10 AM
You can make it work, you're VP now ...
The fact that its' getting out three weeks later is kind of a miracle, if you saw my calendar.
@Philippe Hmm, I recall one poster on your question series advising you to get a time machine. Perhaps that would help ;-)
Ryan, I tried to get one on Amazon but they all looked sus.
Now I'm really curious what the results are for searching that...I've surely seen my fair share of sus products there ^^;
(Heh, I'm curious too, now.)

I'm still amused how a game managed to create an entire concept that people have just adopted, even if they don't play the game.
and office time clocks
@Philippe PubPlat already did a time machine a long time ago, we can share with you ;) meta.stackexchange.com/q/326036/718314
It's a trap, you'll go blind!
@KylePollard how am I just hearing this now? @Catija, you're fired. Anita too.
... Well... anyone need a CM?
6:13 AM
Yep, books and movies. And force-setting the department doesn't help, it just redirects.
Oh, it IS a trap. Hmmm, I don't think I have the authority to fireKyle.
Showing results from All Departments
No results for time machine in Vehicles
But Catja, you're back. But on probation. So don't let it happen again.
Hmmm. Not the first time this year.
@Philippe "Congrats Kyle, you've been hired as a CM! Your first duty - pack up your desk"
6:14 AM
Now that's strategic thinking.
Time Machine.

The other seven are: ATLAS, CMS, TOTEM, LHCb, LHCf, MoEDAL and FASER. == Introduction == ALICE is optimized to study heavy-ion (Pb-Pb nuclei) collisions at a centre of mass energy up to 5.02 TeV per nucleon pair. Now I have Time Machine by Inrgrid Michaelson stuck on my head after this and hearing it while shopping earlier.
As far as songs to get stuck in one's head go, not a bad one.
They play cool music at my mall too, very little elevator music and stores can play their own.
@Philippe lol. That was one of those April fool's jokes hated by the humor impaired, and occasionally people want it as an optional theme ,๐Ÿคฃ
6:26 AM
@KylePollard I had forgotten about the video, which is indeed fantastic. thanks for the reminder :-)
Staff Staff?
@Wolgwang That's how you know he's VP
Staff of Staff ๐Ÿ™ƒ
(if it's not already there, it's appreciated if you add that as a bug report on the meta post โ™ฅ meta.stackexchange.com/questions/367899/…)
The two-section staff or Changxiaobang (Chinese: ้•ทๅฐๆฃ’; pinyin: cháng xiวŽo bàng; lit. 'long/short pole') is a versatile weapon which originated in China from the ancient Shaolin temple and Shaolin martial arts. It is a flail-type weapon which consists of a long staff with a shorter rod attached by a chain, to serve as a cudgel. == See also == Three-section staff Kung Fu Wushu (sport) Northern Shaolin Southern Shaolin Hung Ga Shaolin Kung Fu Nunchaku Pyeongon Flail (weapon)
6:30 AM
Hah that's great
@Catija sometimes they say nice things and help each other. ;)
@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 Yours are older than mine.
@Rob it's the weapon with which the Night King was finally slain, by Arya.
@Catija true, but it will come for you as well. 1 out of 100 times, but still, better than 0. :D
(99 times they just insult each other. ;))
@Kyle hey there, nice to see you here! waves the wand in welcome, creating Fireball by mistake :P
Not to be confused with the weapon mentioned in this quote - Leo Dooley: I could sell nunchucks to a nun named Chuck.
@Wolgwang make sure to double-check that it's not a userscript if you use those, there are definitely some that do that
6:36 AM
@RyanM yeah I bet it's a userscript in action.
Hoisted by his own petard.
@RyanM I don't use any userscript on mobile...
@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 Fireball? Do I need to roll a d20 to make the saving throw? ๐ŸŽฒ
@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 Nice to see you too ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿ˜
@Rob reproducing the Big Bang might lead to finding the source of the bug that caused the universe to be created.
@KylePollard I think you're probably out of range, fortunately.
6:38 AM
My guess: the Creator dropped a vial with the Material of Creation, by mistake, being distracted by something.
They had to roll this dice, and get a three:
@KylePollard hehe, hello fellow D&D fan! Luckily for you, the Fireball only hit the bathroom, I'm afraid we no longer have toilet paper. :D
Or a cat!
@Rob 1 million? Nah, my magic isn't so strong.
It's only d1000.
or miscaptioned.
6:43 AM
I was just in Vancouver and went to this D&D themed pub. You have to roll a d20 for some of their menu items. stormcrow.com/location/storm-crow-alehouse-vancouver
I rolled a 1 on their random drinks menu which was not great
@KylePollard awesome!!
@KylePollard dare I ask the result?
@RyanM It was a shot of tequila with hot sauce
My wife rolled an 8 and got a shot of whiskey with a pickle juice chaser
Arguably the two worst options
I've had the latter. It's...okay.
I might actually prefer the tequila and hot sauce, but that's mostly because I like hot sauce...
Depends very much on the hot sauce in question.
It looks like this:
6:50 AM
@RyanM It was just tabasco
In that case, I'd take the whiskey and pickle juice over that.
I miss the Adamant Spiders that I created as DM. Was surprised to see them used in Border Lands, as I never published them, lol.
(those are very much like what I had in mind when creating the monster 20+ years ago)
@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 those are fun ๐Ÿ˜
@KylePollard with tequila?? lol
@JourneymanGeek only with enough gun power, yeah ;)
@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 and tactics. If you shoot them in the head, they flinch and you can crit em
Iirc acid works too
6:57 AM
My late night coding is going well
I missed a . in a class selector
and then also forgot to save a file
Okay I'm off to bed ๐Ÿ‘‹ Night everyone!
7:18 AM
@JourneymanGeek great practice for Sniper, yeah. But I also love to sometimes bash them until they're dead. :P
@KylePollard sweet dreams! :D
(better than sweat dreams)
7:31 AM
@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 I tend to go with revolvers ๐Ÿ˜
@JourneymanGeek sure, same, but when level is high enough I go (went, didn't play for years) with fists too lol.
7:48 AM
@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 The drink Bloody Mary has both Tabasco and pickle juice in it: tabasco.com/recipe/spicy-bloody-mary
@Rob huh. Makes you want to drink more after that.
Yeah, they're easy to guzzle.
Why would anyone ruin an alcoholic beverage by adding tomato juice?!
Normally it's served in a highball glass.
Do you like Ceasars, why would anyone spoil alcohol with clam juice!
Never heard of that.
I just ruin cola by adding cheap rum/whiskey/liquor to it.
7:56 AM
@Rob if you're drunk enough.... Everything sounds like a good idea?
Almost the same drink,plus clam juice:
A Caesar (also known as a Bloody Caesar) is a cocktail created and consumed primarily in Canada. It typically contains vodka, a caesar mix (a blend of tomato juice and clam broth), hot sauce, and Worcestershire sauce, and is served with ice in a large, celery salt-rimmed glass, typically garnished with a stalk of celery and wedge of lime. What distinguishes it from a Bloody Mary is the inclusion of clam broth. The cocktail may also be contrasted with the Michelada, which has similar flavouring ingredients but uses beer instead of vodka. == Origin == The original cocktail of vodka with seasoned...
Yeah, that looks properly ruined.
Conversation started here:

@RyanM It was a shot of tequila with hot sauce
I know, you only made it worse though :P
8:14 AM
Invented in the '20's (not last year) the Bloody Mary is a popular and well known drink: bestbloodymary.com/history - but I guess it's different where you two are.
Oh, it's well-known. I don't know about popular, I don't have any friends that drink them. I just hate tomatoes/tomato juice :P
I initially read it as 'barn cloth", and I don't exactly know what "clam broth" is, but I don't think I'd put either in a drink
(nor tomato juice nor Worcestershire sauce)
People tend to try all kinds of weird things, until something sticks.
@JohnDvorak en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clam_juice And yeah, doesn't sound appetizing XD
e.g. salty chocolate. Who'd think it can be tasty, say 50 years ago?
But with correct amounts and mixing more stuff, it can be.
@ColeValleyGirl what's your favorite drink? ;)
8:26 AM
@JohnDvorak To be fair... none of that sounds as bad as alcohol with tomato juice :P
I now have an inexplicable craving for deep-fried skittles
8:44 AM
I mean, I could use some deep-fried things too... but skittles?! XD
I'll take a frikandel :D
@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 Black coffee no sugar. I'm very boring in that regard. Or a nice chilled white wine, not too sweet...
Or beetroot juice!
I wonder if I could make a Bloody Mary with beetroot juice instead of tomato juice. Now, there's a thought.
8:59 AM
Nice to see a mobile site bug being status-reviewed today. Means they still care for it even in the meantime before it's removed.
@Tinkeringbell It's frequently consumed here...referred to as a "Bloody Mary".
@ColeValleyGirl If you're going to experiment, keep me updated ;)
Anyways, is anyone disturbed by the way that Cueball holds that laptop?
Not really :P
@JohnDvorak It's a laptop, not a Surface. Modern laptops don't have any trouble being held like that, especially due to the proliferation of SSDs and thinner and lighter designs.
One thing that also doesn't make sense to me is the espresso cocktail...doesn't the caffeine (a stimulant) conflict with the alcohol (a depressant)?
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog I don't see how the hard drive type helps Cueball maintain sufficient grip. The don't provide sufficient weight reduction and the trackpad specifically isn't exactly a high-friction surface
9:09 AM
@JohnDvorak ThinkPads have high-friction trackpads
wait, how do you use them then?
If you put your finger lightly on them, you can't feel the friction
They also have trackpoints, so you can disable the trackpad in the settings so you don't make accidental clicks when holding it that way, without having to use an external mouse
@JohnDvorak reluctantly
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog ๐Ÿค”
@ColeValleyGirl meant a cocktail like we discussed before, but white wine will do too. :D
@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog I have a feeling Yaakov missed the part saying it happens only in mobile theme, thinking it's in the responsive design on a mobile device. We'll see soon enough.
Review means a dev will take a look, might as well be rejected.
9:40 AM
@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 I'm not really a cocktail drinker.... I drank screwdrivers in my youth (vodka and orange) but not for a long time.
@ColeValleyGirl fair! :)
10:29 AM
@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 Can you reproduce it on the mobile site?
@Wolgwang yes, I was wrong. It's a quirk of the mobile theme, which didn't get any attention since it's going to be removed soon.
So they simply didn't remove the HTML showing the staff indicator.
Users with their site name as display name are usually spammers.
Actual user would use actual name, or nickname.
There are exceptions, but this one doesn't look like an exception.
11:02 AM
@Tinkeringbell Well if you can deep fry a mars bar...
@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 By the end of 2021?
@Wolgwang yup

"chat is neglected"
11:18 AM
heh, more like "what the word "doth" doing there and what should it be instead". ;)
@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 "chat is a historical relic"
@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 It's just Shakespeare "does"
@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 it's an old-fashioned version of the word "does"
@JohnDvorak there was a site we tried once, Cooking with Watson (the AI from IBM). You could input a few ingredients you had and it would genera a recipe for you. The directions were horrible but the meal ended up being really tasty and unique (risotto with apricot, tomato and coriander).
@Mithical Would you stop interrupting me while I'm interrupting you

@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 No such command 'coffeeeeee'.
Did it? I've been caird coinheringaahing for years now, but everyone just calls me caird :P
huh, thought you were only "caird" and you only recently added the full name. ;(
So, tea is due.

@M.A.R. puntastic
@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 Nope, been the long name since 2017 :P
(aside from a brief month in March this year where I was "ChartZ Belatedly", and I'm switching to "Dude coinheringaahing" for a month at some point soon :P)
@Mithical Congrats on getting your Lit diamond back :)
hmm is this "our" Vanny?
@cairdcoinheringaahing lol why??
Who is the president of Community for the Stack Exchange Network?
@JourneymanGeek I've never had a deep fried mars bar either... I did have deep fried ice cream once though, that was interesting :)
11:32 AM
@cairdcoinheringaahing It's just like buying a second-hand mop
@Wolgwang there's no president , only VP and it's @Philippe
@Tinkeringbell Do not deep fry me
@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 See this answer. In short, my username comes from a compressed string in a programming language I use for code golf, and both of those are the decompressed versions of slight variations
@M.A.R. Didn't know you came in bars...
Well don't make me into bars either
11:33 AM
@M.A.R. luckily you can just brush the diamond and it's shining again like nothing happened.
I think I'm "reerects bespangling aachen" on the CGCC discord
@cairdcoinheringaahing ohhh LOL
@Tinkeringbell we all come in bars. ;)
@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 You're expecting teenagers to brush things
Such parental prejudice
@M.A.R. @Mithical is no longer a teenager
they're a fully grown up person by now :D

11:34 AM
Really? Dang
@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 There is no one above him, right?

Speaking as a recently 19 y/o, I for one still feel like a teenager ;P
@cairdcoinheringaahing nah, I can't consider someone serving in army teenager. ;)
@cairdcoinheringaahing Yeah, @Sha, don't make me sound older than I actually am :P

@Wolgwang He's underneath Teresa Dietrich, who is underneath the CEO
It's staff all the way down
@Mithical ohh so Teresa is the "president" of Community?
She's the Chief Product Officer, which includes Community
So a chief or an officer
11:37 AM
the community is a product?
@JohnDvorak of course
And we're all numbers.
hello 194047
I can only do addition. Let's not get ahead of ourselves here
we total up to 0.0015%

11:37 AM
@JohnDvorak Impurities
Fun fact: water without any impurities is a perfect insulator
A water without a community is a water I wouldn't want to drink
similarly, a community without impurities would have plenty of questions, but no answers
@Mithical I didn't know about this. Thanks :-)
@Mith check Twitter in your spare time. ;)
@M.A.R. what do we drink in the womb?
11:45 AM
@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 Hopefully, nothing.
@Tinkeringbell so how we don't get dry? ;)
@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 Not communities, that's for sure.
@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 That's what the umbilical is for.
Jokes aside, you're not drinking anything then. Everything, including oxygen, is delivered by the mother
Food and nutrients.
11:48 AM
@Mast oh, so it's not just a toy?! :(
@Mast so the mother better not drink Bloody Mary....
@M.A.R. well, actually...
