> This product empowers the organizations connected to these technologies to more directly support the communities that have grown around various topics, bolstering the quality and health of our content in a way that benefits our users as well.
So many words. So little information.
Can someone tl;dr this whole thing? It makes no sense to me.
> Questions and answers will continue to belong to the Stack Overflow community, but the Collectives page will aggregate all of the relevant content from the associated tags.
So a company can buy the rights to tags on SO or something?

Depending on what you mean by "rights". They can't control moderation, or who uses those tags (except to the extent any user can). But they can mark certain people with icons that indicate their answers are more trustworthy within the tags defined by the Collectives.

12:27 AM
Oh, is that all it does? Collects tags, lets them write advertisements^W"Articles", and have an icon that says they're part of the project?

Part of the project or SO members hand-selected by the organization

12:59 AM
@forestdistrustsStackExchange I suspect essentially something like that

1:13 AM
ah...
Unfortunate.

1:43 AM
This doesn't really seem like - it's not asking to recommend an SE site to post links to, it's asking for where within an SE site (any generic site) would be best for posting links.

2:08 AM
@forestdistrustsStackExchange they already had something like that on SO, by using sponsored tags

2:55 AM
@bobble I agree with you. It also seems like a bit of a feature request, considering the last bits of the question. I've added the [external-sources] tag which, while it doesn't have usage guidance or a wiki, I feel does apply here - And removed the site-recommendation tag.
cc @Ollie Since he was the person who originally re-tagged the question.

@MetaAndrewT. No love for old products

!!/watch* "Alpine Ramble Treks"
!!/watch* Alpine Ramble Treks

Rob
7:35 AM
@Luuklag Those two don't have enough TPs, the URL in their profile might be a better watch: github.com/Charcoal-SE/SmokeDetector/pull/… github.com/Charcoal-SE/SmokeDetector/pull/… --- travel.stackexchange.com/users/120586/dil-gurung

Yeah the first was a mistake @Rob

Rob
But the second isn't better, you'll know soon enough; when one is approved or both denied. You can see here: chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/11540/charcoal-hq or by clicking on the links above.

Removing Treks from it, already doubles the TP's ;)

Rob
Generally there must be five: charcoal-se.org/smokey/…

1 hour later…
9:05 AM
@Rob That's the guidance for blacklisting; the command there was to watch, not blacklist. That only requires one TP.

Hey @Yaakov, I owe you an apology for my remarks of yesterday. I'm sorry if I have offended you.

12:14 PM
@Luuklag forgiven. There were other periods in my life when I would have been much more upset about what you wrote, and I know that the subject can be a sensitive people for lots of folks. Thanks for recognizing after the fact.

Thank you. It would usually be a joke I make with some good friends, because I know they aren't upset by it. Using it on "strangers" was wrong of me.

12:35 PM
Oh... Red-flag deletion works too, I guess.

Well someone did give them an upvote. Now I'm inclined to downvote just because of that, but I'll refrain

Hmm, not sure if I call that red-flaggable
Just mis-informed

@rene It was spam deleted

Yeah I wouldn't consider it rude. You could maybe consider it abusive in some contexts, but...

I custom flagged it to get the red flag removed

12:39 PM
@rene I did because I see ghosts of the past...

Spooky!

fair enough

Yeah all the F-bombs in there are too much.
@Tinkeringbell you might also want to reach out to SO mods, cause he might be using multiple accounts to avoid the Q ban there

@rene that question is deleted

I know

12:46 PM
ok

@Wolf Evidently it wasn't at the time that the message was posted.

ok

Or should I make a custom flag @tink?

that is probably more effective
not all SO mods are in the TL

@Luuklag A custom flag (on SO) could work, then you can include any evidence you have... I don't see any, at a quick glance?

12:54 PM
I custom flagged it.

They linked a question in their question, which was by another user. Their MSE account has a linked SO account, with a couple of downvoted Q's, so they are probably Q-banned on that one.

1:06 PM
Ooh, good one :)
(especially the first, I didn't click the link so I didn't notice!)

@Luuklag I've given your watch some regex magic to catch the broader scope you mentioned, and also added a negative lookahead to ensure I'm not double-detecting the domain. Given that this user likes to spam this service (and not just this domain) this keyword watch is a great idea. Thanks for proposing it :)

@Spevacus Sure, thanks :)
@Spevacus @Rob now there are 5 matches ;)

Well, with the negative lookahead, it's actually just 2 TP atm. Without it, it'd be blacklistable.
Here's a search for what I watched (requires MS account, I think)

@Spevacus {"error":"Unauthenticated users cannot use regex search"}

1:19 PM
@Spevacus This shows 2 results, one link I clicked earlier showed 5
lacking the .com part

@Luuklag Yes, the negative lookahead (this string: (?!\.com) ) ensures that this detection doesn't double-dip and also detect the domain (alpineramble.com) which is already under a watch regex of alpineramble\.com. However, this spammer doesn't always actually spam this domain. They tend to just use the keywords "Alpine Ramble" or "Alpine Ramble Treks", so we'd want those watches to be separate so they can be individually blacklisted if they gather enough true positives.

ah okay. Thanks
gonna head out for the weekend.
Cya people.

Enjoy your weekend! o/

Yay, weakened! (weekend)

Rob
1:37 PM
@Luuklag Both were rejected: 1 and 2, which is what I suggested would be the likely outcome - it needed some improvement.

@Spevacus sorry, that was a at-a-glance tag edit. cc @bobble.

No worries <3

@Rob thanks, if you meant this one.

@Ollie Hrm. I considered voting to undelete, but I'm not sure if we should given that it was a self-deleted feature-request. Your answer did get zapped pretty hard by that self-deletion, though. If it wasn't a feature-request I would absolutely vote to undelete.

Rob
@Ollie Yes, maybe in the next few days; it's in the 10K Tools listings ...

1:47 PM
@Spevacus I guess. It's not a big deal given the answer wasn't around long enough to garner any votes/comments/other interaction, but I did want to see what others thought of it. Especially the bit about possibly being disabled on a site.

@GWarner there is nothing for me to contribute

Rob
They argued it to the bitter end, complete with delay excuses, so that's why I don't think they should delete an answered question; they should take their -8, and whatever else not turtle themselves after kicking @oll

@Rob another good point... I cast my undeletion vote earlier, so

Rob
They have over 2K, it's not like they are a new user; they know to research and ask well founded questions.

@Wolf So you code in Python, and you can't find Python questions you could answer?

1:56 PM
And 5 years on MSE; they should've found the Roomba at least.

2:15 PM
the name seems vaguely familiar

@Rob I did think about mod-flagging or mod-pinging it...
@Journeyman, what do you think?

Rob
I think it's below the point of "urgency" where a moderator should intervene; but it does only need one vote,from anyone.

More or less :D
and I'm not sure there's a net benefit to the question

*shrug*

Rob
3:15 PM
One "benefit" is that it's a new request to implement these very old requests: meta.stackexchange.com/q/92809/282094 meta.stackexchange.com/q/261326/282094 - between then and now it doesn't appear that there's been any requests to add a new close reason: 'Apparently Abandoned' (IE: asked and didn't come back in two weeks, or reply to comments).

3:34 PM
@GWarner i am still learning python and some of the questions i see are a confusing because i am not in that stage

@Wolf Oh. So you primarily are learning python. but your interest in SE is chatting and having privileges you don't need yet?
@bobble So can I use sandbox to tell me where in a post i'm editing to place information? Or do I need to do that in the post?
Oh damn. how do I see html instead of the editor?

I thought the purpose of your editing was just to play with the editor's features, and I think the sandbox is better for such activities than another post
There should be a toggle near the top to let you switch to markdown mode?

Oh okay.. btw i found the project about the missing img descriptions.
Oh okay. sorry i was on multiple monitors and still dont have enough room.
@bobble MY brother uses a screen reader, but im not real familiar with their use should ALT text be full senteces or more like tags or phrases?

thanks rene
wow that post is set to be ginsu'd

Comments on articles are actually large enough to read, compared to everywhere else on the site

no easy way other then Inspect to see my changes
I dont like the images either. likely edit them in PS.

@GWarner i am doing challenges in a website

challenges. like looking for bugs in their coding?

4:04 PM
no

oh okay.

this is the link
@GWarner which coding are you learning

@Wolf that looks interesting. im not really learning anything other then how to edit posts using the editor
@wolf after a few weeks of butting heads with meta elite my talents are best to be involved behind the scenes..
"Ive got TOO much time on my hands" by Styx

ok
you checked the website

I do a lot of photoshop stuff, digital conversions of old photos and film
yes i did.
@SmokeDetector burn notice: all my comments in chat.
(shrug)

4:19 PM
@GWarner Smokey won't/can't do that.

Any SE staff around?

@ShadowWizardWearingMaskV2 Smokey won't burn all of a certain user's comments in chat.

I found this while registering for an online event, and I thought that SE IP guardians might be interested

@E.P. Catija's in here, although I can't say anything about availability.

4:26 PM
CC @Catija
it looks like standard part of the platform on the part of "pheedloop", whoever they are

@Mithical "just"? We're the Elite members! :-P
Should get a Yaakov Badge. ;)

I don't have time to document it in email or anything

@E.P. can I see the URL?

> Affected by Yaakov and changed mind about Stack Exchange for the better

@E.P. :/ So... someone's using our logo as a speech bubble?
Interesting.

4:27 PM
where the asterisks are a private string
@Catija close to
four bars instead of three

@Catija ah, indeed it does
well, there you go
if this is something SE might find objectionable, you know where to start digging

Thanks. I'm... not sure but I'll check.

(this is probably easy to see by setting up a demo on pheedloop? i guess.)
anyways, I gotta shoot
I just thought I'd ping y'all so I can forget about it =)
have a good'un, everyone

You too.

4:35 PM
@Mithical yeah, delayed whole year due to the Corona...
@Rob well guess it's imgur fault, no?
@Rob nah, it's too boring

@Ollie Well it was worth a shot.

@GWarner not really? Why delete all your comments?

to clean up the room from chatter

Yes... for certain kinds of chatter, though, we try to prevent it before it's chatted, so we don't have to clean up. You can also use a 1-on-1 room for that, if you wish.

Yes ik.

We spent over a hundred hours in 1-on-1 interviews and collected thousands of survey responses to better understand what our community and customers wanted to see in this product. This feedback shaped everything from naming to moderation, and helped us evolve and iterate the concept into what it is today.

At least they didn't copy our Hamburger - that would be a true crime. 🅜

Is it like collective farming or collectivization in general. Maybe not, neither of those were trademarked afaik.
They did produce notable propaganda pieces.
The one in front is obviously a moderator of a Collective.

8:03 PM
why did smokey remove his post

that's what it does
posts in chat can be self-deleted within a short time period, things that are handled in that time period get auto deleted

8:40 PM
@Wolf because the reported post was deleted.

9:40 PM
I can't find anything about whether or not frames can used in posts. Or possibly why not. Anyone more familiar with the right terminolgy to search?

iframes?

well im not an expert at HTML. if that is the tag then yes. (I so dislike when pictures are inline when they would be netter suited next to the text.
I know the construction of html. but its been so long..

9:55 PM
those aren't generally allowed in user-generated content anywhere, much less here
they're difficult to police

okay. that will suffuce. i know enoughtnot to question why they do things the way they do..

10:48 PM
@GWarner no
On SE other than a very few specifically chosen bits of html, you're restricted to markdown

11:07 PM
@JourneymanGeek okay. i wont complain.
thank you

lol
