3:24 AM
@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 Very gracious of you

4 hours later…
7:21 AM
oh yeah, should be f instead...(thinking of "no" or "negative" for n)

7:47 AM
@cairdcoinheringaahing no, not yet, thanks for the idea. Perhaps you could post it as an answer to its Stack Apps post?

@M.A.R. bows
@Rob but it's not :D

Rob
More like :B

8:03 AM
@Rob Bugs Bunny?

8:23 AM
why u no delete?!
!!/bugged

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 No such command 'bugged'.

8:55 AM
@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 been bugged for a while now

@Luuklag I know
Nov 8 at 10:54, by Shadow Wizard Is Vaccinated V3
hmm didn't it use to delete?
People didn't think it's a bug back then ^
Sadly like SE bugs, this one likely won't ever get fixed.
(too minor, nobody really cares except me.)

9:14 AM
Smoke on the Meta

cough

1 hour later…
10:41 AM
already has mine

Too lazy to log in again just for a spam flag XD

@Tinkeringbell again?
You log off from each site?

No... but the serverfault one always logs me out for some reason
Iirc, so does ask ubuntu?

@tripleee poof
@Tinkeringbell yeah, different domain, different cookies

Yep. I know there's a reason for it :)

10:47 AM

A: Why do I have to re-log in on all *.SE sites, one after another?

KTrain5369You may need to allow all cross-site cookies and third-party cookies. I have also tried setting the tracking prevention (in Edge/Firefox/Chrome) to balanced and disabled any blocking extensions. It should work after a browser reload (that is, closing the browser and then opening it again with the...

stealing @Tink's cookies
yum yum

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 Noo, not my cookies!

@Tinkeringbell LOLLL!! What's that? And what my Tower is doing there?! :P

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 You've seriously never heard of cookie clicker? XD
In all your years of existence on the internet? :P
^ Go!

@Tinkeringbell indeed! I... don't play or look for games, got one which is more than enough... (on my phone) :)

I know it has wizard towers :P
I need more of those, but they're expensive.

10:52 AM
@Tinkeringbell hmm on second thought, my daughter might enjoy it, I'll show it to her. So, thanks! :D

@Tinkeringbell tell them I sent you, you'll get 69% discount!
:P :D :P

Won't work, and they only get more expensive each time you buy one :P This is a picture from yesterday though, so I have a few more by now ;)

lol
BTW, ever heard of Match Masters?
That's the current "trend" for my kids, and many of their classmates.

Seems fun! I googled, and I get the basics ;)
I used to play cookie clicker 'against' some classmates back when I was like 15 or so... I was the only one with a laptop, and I'd sometimes keep it running all night XD
Bitcoin mining before it was cool!

10:56 AM
lol
I ran Fold@Home
Some charity (?) project to help fight cancer.
Or so they were claiming....

Yeah, I heard about that one too... never interested me as much XD

Folding@home (FAH or F@h) is a distributed computing project aimed to help scientists develop new therapeutics for a variety of diseases by the means of simulating protein dynamics. This includes the process of protein folding and the movements of proteins, and is reliant on simulations run on volunteers' personal computers. Folding@home is currently based at Washington University in St. Louis and led by Greg Bowman, a former student of Vijay Pande.The project utilizes graphics processing units (GPUs), central processing units (CPUs), and ARM processors like those on the Raspberry Pi for distributed...
Huh, it's still up??? I'm almost sure I saw them saying they're shutting down years ago.

Maybe there were plans, but they were foiled ;)

Or they just shut down the client for whatever I was running back then, lol

Rob
12:02 PM

12:13 PM
@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 mmmm Yeah I ran that when I was in highschool, on a gaming PC that I didn't use that much
Looks like folding is now focussion on Covid

12:28 PM
@Glorfindel Done :)

1:24 PM
@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 This is filed in a Github issue: github.com/Charcoal-SE/SmokeDetector/issues/6776 - But I'm unsure when it'll be fixed. It'd be nice if it happened sooner rather than later, but we don't really know what caused it to break :(

@Spevacus It also doesn't only relate to reports, but to all messages

Yeah, the last comment in that issue mentions that
That said, still sucks :(

@Spevacus agreed

@Luuklag agreed
@Spevacus my best guess is permissions, something changed behind the scenes on SE side and broke Smokey code that post the delete request.

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 find that unlikely, must been 100 years since chat's source was last touched by SE

1:37 PM
@Luuklag so maybe some low level permissions check used in many places, and Smokey has some special status? Dunno.
@tripleee how Smokey logging in? Is it totally ordinary account, for SE?
My first debug step would be to log in as Smokey, post a test message and try to delete it right away.

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 yeah, email and password (and occasionally gets a pesky CAPTHCA)
@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 you can run Smokey on your own account, too, if you like
it's a bit confusing if you are participating in the same room so probably create a sock puppet

The only downside is you can't issue yourself commands. D:

@Spevacus :(
@tripleee well that won't really test its login... will it?

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 all the bots are

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 unlikely to be specific to the Smokey account, other than maybe if (like I have speculated elsewhere) the problem is that the deletion requests get throttled because there's so much traffic from the account that they arrive to late to be valid

1:44 PM
@tripleee well in the past when it worked, the deletion was instant, so not sure what you mean by "arrive too late to be valid".

myself and Makyen seem to be the primary committers to the code base right now and I don't think either of us think this is very important to fix, but feel free to try to persuade us

@tripleee PayPal address?
;)

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 chat basically allows you to post something every 20 seconds so we constantly have to wait and retry

@tripleee you might want to put in some special casing for delete requests then, that they end up at the top of the list

there is some leeway to post two or three messages in rapid succession but once you start hitting the limits, you get throttled with increasing intensity

1:46 PM
@Luuklag yeah it's mentioned on the GH case.

@Luuklag yeah if my speculation is correct that would not be hard to code up as such, but requires experimentation to verify

@tripleee yeah, cross room, I know.
But here on MSE Smokey doesn't post a lot, so can't see how this might be the case.

it also posts everything in The Fire Department
I think precisely to reduce the amount of traffic we have on the main chat sites

1 hour later…
3:02 PM
Eira May on December 13, 2021
Recently, Stack Overflow’s Chief Product and Technology Officer, Teresa Dietrich, sat down with Justin Stone, Senior Director of Secure DevOps Platforms at Liberty Mutual, for a conversation about building a high-velocity DevOps culture.

3:13 PM
@Feeds A conversation about how to enable high-velocity oneboxes at your tavern.
Would this be duplicate of this or not?

@EkadhSingh-ReinstateMonica No, I think its a new itteration

3:29 PM
@JourneymanGeek @davi , some spammers to nuke ˆ

3 hours later…
6:29 PM
45 messages moved to Chimney

@ShadowWizardIsVaccinatedV3 on the plus side, it is no gacha.

7:03 PM
🚽

7:53 PM
@EkadhSingh-ReinstateMonica Protip, don't touch Staff posts :D

8:12 PM
@Spevacus Its an off label, and very SE specific use of the term, so correct grammar for "sunset"/"sunsetted" is debatable :D

:D
Figured I'd leave 'er alone without knowing the full story /o/

I've fixed it less ambigiously
I don't see it happening and lots of moving parts but... its worth asking :D

I 100% agree. I'm glad you asked about it. I know you're not the only mod who used the notifications a bunch.

1 hour later…
9:22 PM
What is it with these bots (I assume they're bots) wanting to post nonsense on a moderator's question?

That's like walking into a police station and trying to rob the front desk lady

Apparently I hit all the keywords
@Spevacus who's in full body armour, and has a large machinegun with an ammo belt....
(Its a rough town?)

lol

@Spevacus the only remaining answer is even worse :P

9:28 PM
Ha!

lol
"You can't" is an answer
@Glorfindel If I could code - building my own and open sourcing it would be an option :D
I'd guess you'd need to tap onto apple/google's back end for push notifications?

Yes, but (at least on iOS) it won't help for notifications initiated by 3rd parties (in this case, SE).

web notifications would at least support android, but it's only better than nothing if you have android
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@KevinB Yeah I know
Well I knew in 2018 when I made the feature request :D

sad that it's still true 3 years later

9:44 PM
Hm well
There's a reason I brought these things up early :D

just use a PC
ez

@KevinB Can't really carry one on my pocket
I do a remarkable amount of modding off a phone on a train

i actually have a handheld here that can run windows and fit in my pocket
(not that i'd suggest anyone use it for that purpose)

😉

9:47 PM
or linux

yeah that's even more of a possibility, but at that point get an android tablet

....
oh wait!
I have an android phone

then you'd be fine, if they implemented web notifications

more seriously - phone notifications also go to my watch
So for me personally it would work

it wouldn't work for me, but, the app works for ios 15.1, and i assume the recently released 15.2

9:50 PM
I'm not sure if the alt-app for ios does notifications

Rob
10:05 PM
@Spevacus There's easily over a dozen videos on YouTube of people robbing a police station. Even weirder is ramming the police station with a vehicle many times, destroying your means of escape.

kinda like throwing the gun instead of fireing it

Rob
I think they got the idea from a scene in the video game GTA.

Rob
@VoteDukakis It's too violent to link to, but it probably started with "Rambo First Blood (1982) - Escape From the Police Station Scene"; 40 years ago.
