@Spevacus I would check your shoes before putting them on if I were you.

@JourneymanGeek It was worth it.

@Spevacus funny thing is there was a long running joke on an irc channel I used to be on that I was a bot cause I idled a lot

@Aibobot You idle a fair here on JMG as well, unless my eyes have been deceiving me.
Out of curiosity, was that acc. intended to run a bot? Or was it just to play with a 1 rep account?
I forget what you said the initial purpose was.

@Spevacus Initially? Low rep sock for checking on things
practically I also don't feel comfortable using SE on a work system with mod powers

That's also very fair.

so if you see this account, I'm either testing or at work

2:57 AM
Geez. Two dogs, a couple hedgehogs, a rubiks cube, a bird... We have quite the menagerie.

Q: Is it legal to steal the American flag from the moon?

Anton HinkelI'm not quite sure whether the question is correctly answered here or whether it belongs to Law Stack Exchange. Assuming I can fly into space, more precisely to the moon and back again. What laws forbid me to collect the American flag (regardless of its condition) or any other object of a space n...

I was going to sweep these up, but so many of them are still alive.

8:22 AM
only one till that message from Aibobot?

there were more alive 25 minutes ago

I posted my 2c to the feedback post about changes to the reinstatement process

@Mithical okay. I'll do a sweep now

The up and down of the mod council will be what they'll do when push comes to shove
what if there's another monica situation? what if it's significantly worse yet? Will SE listen to the council and back off? This is why people want guarantees. Without them, it's not really going to inspire confidence of trust
Having a supposed regulatory instance whose only purpose is to reign you in and then not actually giving them that power is pretty much akin to regulatory capture. If this is going to work not only does the council need a binding veto in any mod removal and reinstatement decisions, but it needs to be elected by the users, not appointed by SE.

@Magisch How do we get guarantees?

people want a constitutional monarchy

Ultimately, if SE wants to do everything they did to Monica again, there's no amount of policy or mod councils that can stop them

what they're getting is an absolute monarchy with a paint job
This is why SE if they're serious about this needs to make public and contractual commitments to cede significant decision making authority to community elected bodies
basically if push comes to shove and the opinions are opposed they should lose.

@Magisch also, to be fair, SE was willing to give the council a binding (except for legal issues) veto; the council declined it because there were concerns about being seen as the arbiters of moderators or "supermods", which... is not what it was created for.

11:44 AM
Thats what is needed though

so now it's basically binding in all but name

That actually makes it completely ineffective

I agree. But I was in the minority on that one :)

You never design an agreement for the good times when you're on good terms. The only scenario in which this has potential to be useful is when we get another bad situation that is bad enough that the council may need to tell SE management to shove it
Same way you don't design a partnership agreement or a work contract for the times when your interests align and you all get along

on second thought

At Stack Overflow, one of our main missions is to close the gap between companies and developers during the hiring process. Though you may know us primarily as a Q&A site for developers, we are also a talent platform, and are in a unique position to connect developers with companies and jobs that they are…

1:32 PM
does any Q&A site/initiative have a good system to manage the many policies/rules and discussions about them that may arise throughout the years of usage?

@user1306322 meta not good enough for you? :D

nope
I've seen a couple country legal code sites and it's much more useful than meta
usable*
idk about useful tbh :p

@Feeds wait
I thought there was a hiring freeze

maybe whoever was hired to writes these articles under different aliases didn't get the memo
also there are no tags at the bottom of the post, just "Tags: "

hey journey
how's ash

If a rule prevents you from improving or maintaining Wikipedia, ignore it. == See also == Be bold The 5th of the Five Pillars of Wikipedia: Wikipedia has no firm rules "Ignore all rules" essays and related topics...

Wikipedia is a rather peculiar construct of rules, traditions and "this is how we've always done it" mixed with written policy
kind of like the UK (lack of a) constitution

where's that threaded mess of accepted/rejected/delayed propositions, why is it so clean

oh there are 10 page long threaded messes without clear consensus there too

well, Wikipedia also doesn't deal with solving problems like Q&A sites
people don't come to wikipedia to solve a problem and maybe get into a heated argument about it

I wanna say a lot of what wikipedia deals with is significantly more thorny then what SE does
And I'm a cactus

1:49 PM
maybe whatever mess they have is so deep I just haven't stubmled upon it yet

I see you've never been to an/i

probably not, don't know what that is

Admin noticeboard subpage incidents
think of it like meta except every thread is about users and when enough people vote against you you get sanctioned

huh I wonder if we could sanction blind reviewers on SO

the mods do that to the tune of dozens every day

1:51 PM
or at least limit them to not touch a certain tag they clearly know nothing about, and stay in their area of expertise

I'm pretty sure cody was handing out 100+ temp review bans a day at some point

I think those would be separate features
was there ever implemented a way for temp banned reviewers to see for which bad reviews they got it?
to learn from mistakes

They usually get an example of a bad review and I think mods can write a text message that comes with the ban

seems like it should be a core feature designed to fix the bogus reviews and also notify the reviewer of their mistake and offer some guidance like "maybe don't review questions with this tag until you learn more about it" or a checkbox to ignore a tag if they aren't interested in learning/ don't like it

@Magisch uhhh
Did you know i got bitten by a dog? :D

1:55 PM
was it ash

ngl my heart skipped a beat because I feared for the worst

he got himself into a fight between a singapore special and a husky

did he get out of it fine?

the former lunged as him just as I was pulling the frisky geriatric out of the way
so I got bitten, he's fine :D

1:57 PM
That counts as a win
I'm sure ash would have felt that bite more

I did get 2 days MC out of it :D

at least he's fine :)

2:16 PM
@Magisch though typically ash would run away on command ;D
bo one one gets bitten

our office dog would book it as soon as he saw the fight he's not a fighter dog

Ash is fearless of anything but hights :D

@user1306322 um
so you decided to post on Codidact?
AFAIK CD doesn't even have reviews at the moment

does it have catcuses?

I don't think I'm a cactus so I'll have to say not yet
just... making sure that @user1306322 is aware that posting on Codidact Meta isn't going to change anything on Stack

2:25 PM
Let me make a lame joke about posting on Twitter instead ....

@Mithical but a cactus is not a catcus
a catcus has two properties. It is a cat and a cactus

2:41 PM
@Magisch yeah, famous Israeli singer almost got killed by his dog, who suddenly attacked him. (big wolf-ish type)

Dogs that are part wolf... are part wolf, and wolves are still vicious wild animals. They are not dogs and do not behave like dogs.

and well
you need to be aware of any dog

@Mithical are there reviews planned at all?
@Mithical of course I know they're different sites lol

2:58 PM
@user1306322 to be honest I have no idea

I posted it on Codidact because I know it's impossible to change something so big in SO/SE at this point
and since Codidact is just starting out, it's still possible to propose new big changes there
I once spent several hours explaining certain new ideas here like "reactions" or just in general voting that does not end with "up" and "down" arrows, but it was not understood at all
I think it's the age of the community - most users are so set in their ways they're used to, it's not a reasonable expenditure of time to try and convince them to change or adopt new ideas, it's easier to just create a new community, and people who understand how it works and agree to use it will come

@DavidPostill @Sha - where does it end up going, that is the question! - Recent AD that showed up:

@Rob lol. I wonder if they realise that symbol represents Urine
πŸ˜‚

Rob
We could write to them "Urine excrement", butt I don't think that they'd appreciate the humor.

Launch a free online store selling urinals :)

Rob
Hope it doesn't mess up the gravy wrestling image, and offer septic tank pumping services; how embarrassing.
TBF, their logo is actually square within a square, so it's wombat oriented only.

@Rob hopefully, in a toilet. Urine in other places tend to make a mess.

Rob
7:54 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Not particularly messy, but certainly worse - ugly photo.

@ShadowWizardWearingMask Erm, some folks believe that drinking urine has potential health benefits. And in some extreme cases it can be a matter of survival (for example stranded somewhere without fresh water supplies...)

@Rob I think urine don't freeze at the same temperature as water? And surely can't become a spear like that.

@Rob Snopes proved that story false ...

@DavidPostill and some enjoy drinking it just like that, yeah. Still, I mean places like floor, carpet, etc. ;)

Rob
7:59 PM
What's this a symbol for?:

Hmm.

Pee cubes?

Rob

I have no clue what that is.

Rob
Good.

8:02 PM
@Catija A simple google image search show that these are Lemon Ice Cubes ...
@Catija Hahahah. Have you never been desperate enough when there is a big queue outside of the ladies to go in the mens toilets?

Yeah... yellow snow, no go.
@DavidPostill only if it's a single stall.
I'm pretty sure urinals don't have holes like that.

Rob
That's the humor.

@Rob Hahahahahahaha.

Rob
Probably no one is going to want to use that. It also doesn't accommodate different heights; it's a joke photo.

Rob
8:08 PM
Maybe it's thought to be a peep hole.

^^^ the related search was the reason for my "Hahahahahahaha."

I only saw the single version at first. I didn't realize it's a gif.

Rob
Distantly related joke:

Rob
8:30 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask They found a way to make it even messier πŸ•΄οΈβœ”οΈ

@Rob very useful!
@Rob yeah hole way too small, only few will be able to use it anyway.
All this urine talk reminds me of recent development with my son. After being told over and over again to stop peeing during bath, he started to mask that action. Smart devil! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜ˆ

Rob
@ShadowWizardWearingMask Perhaps we misunderstand it's intended purpose; gas extraction.

@Rob gas to help you pee?
@Rob wrong color, easy to see it's not pee.

Rob
8:48 PM
@ShadowWizardWearingMask To each their own!

9:12 PM
@Rob well they have the swimming suit, inside bath you have to become creative.
(to hide your actions)

Rob
@ShadowWizardWearingMask You say you are pretty good at detecting the activity, just tell him you've added a "pee in the pool indicator" (no such thing) to the water; if he doesn't listen you'll know. When you are fairly certain use a quick hand to squirt food coloring:

9:41 PM
@Rob he's smarter than that, plus I can tell when he's doing it without indicator. Just got tired of telling him to stop... :D

Rob
Yes, but the idea of the indicator is the embarrassment factor; or is that not developed yet. If not drop a chocolate bar in, say you made a mess in the tub too.

or so that he knows you know
