12:16 AM
Hi @Ann

@M.A.R. Hi

Back in my day, we wrestled alligators with our toes, and staff never responded to posts

posts?

So it's showing that you're new ;) Consider an official reply a bonus, I still don't think it's guaranteed on anything
Although it might be that I'm not paying attention

@AnnZen In a publicly posted question, or a message sent through the Contact Us form?

12:18 AM
You can assume it's automatically [status-review]

Contact us form

Hmm... From what I understand, they're pretty backed up, so it might take anywhere from a week to three weeks.
And even then that's no guarantee.

Oh I totally forgot about Contact Us. They used to be fast with that one, Cat is all over everything these days, so it's still true probably

:'(

It's false?
My assumptions are never false. Ur false

12:20 AM
It seemed to be in reference to an actual weight training question, and actually answered the question. Seemed fine to me ;D
Well, actually, it was about fixing posture
The lad recommended core fitness training
@AnnZen As @M.A.R. mentioned, Catija has been very responsive to all sorts of support questions lately, but because feedback through the support form isn't publicly available, I don't know if her responsiveness extends to that area.
Soooo... All I can say is, good luck!

support questions?

Questions tagged support

Whoops...
MAR that WAS actually true
>_>
I should be more careful x.x

Haha
I will rub it in your face

@M.A.R. I'm talking about contacting the team using the Contact us option.

12:24 AM
Although I was never referring to that SD post, but about the Contact Us thing

38
Q: "Contact us"... and then what?

nvoigtSo I had a dispute with the moderators at a specific SE site. As a result, I got suspended there. As per SE guidelines, I pressed the "Contact us" button and wrote to the higher powers to appeal. That was 5-6 weeks ago. There was zero feedback, neither positive, nor negative, not even "it's in p...

Yeah I changed my feedback to true pos
Still a tad new to feedbackifying

@Ann the gist of the second half of the conversation was that Catija is an active CM so she might be there to respond to your Contact Us thing
Although I vaguely recall . . . Animuson was in charge of Contact Us?
Also is Tim Post still working for SE?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Also I'm trying to justify being up at 5

12:27 AM
@M.A.R. animuson's in charge of the Support team, which handles support tickets and either actions them if they're simple (e.g. an account merge request) or forwards them on to other teams (e.g. community).

Sonic flies in with cape to the rescue
Spev let's bail

We out!

Although if you have a cape, does it help with aerodynamics or does it just hold you back?

Are most of the staff not users on the site?

They are, but few (Mostly only community managers) check the questions page often
Wait, you mean Contact Us. Again. Ugh. I have no idea how that one looks like behind the scenes.

12:31 AM
@M.A.R. ?

Some devs hang out here and there. Like @Yaakov
And then there's @g3rv4, I have no idea what he's up to.

And @Catija?

Maybe has Tavern in the favorites and joins here every time
Cat is a community manager
They manage the community
I mean obviously

Is that different from staff?

It's part of their job to keep in touch

12:33 AM
@M.A.R. me neither tbh

Eeek hides

@M.A.R. with the community?

Please don't magix me into dirt

I just joined here a couple times, had some interesting convos
and then favorited the room

@Ann yes, with the community. They also solve community related issues. Some meta fight, mods needing help with some socks

12:35 AM
so every day when I join my favorite rooms, I join here :)

@g3rv4 hi

@AnnZen o/

Mods are exception handlers. CMs are exception exception handlers.
Dunno how to be more concise than that

Rob
@Spevacus What you linked to says: "For posts containing no understandable content (e.g. “essentially what they wrote, at the end" ..." - what I linked to says: "These posts usually can be salvaged by editing out the inappropriate language and leaving a comment. Therefore the appropriate feedback is f as we don’t want a system-level block preventing these kind of posts.".

@g3rv4 Can I ask you a statistical question?

Rob
12:47 AM
I am a Core member of Charcoal. While I won't be the one who reviews your Feedback it's part of what I do to assist you with it. You may or may not receive a 'review warning' and a ban will probably be lengthy - a couple of well known people were removed from reviewing recently. Carry on.

nervous nail-biting
Meh, I've not been core for months

Rob
Bail nighting?

You need 2 reviews per month or something
@Rob the science guy

@AnnZen I'm putting my kid to sleep :) leave it here and I'll do my best to reply tomorrow ;)

Rob
I knew this guy, and everything was science to him; except for science itself, he didn't know what that was.
Obviously, that's not you; as you are attending university.

12:56 AM
@g3rv4 what if only the kid could reply? Like the genius kids thing
I've never seen what Bill does. Only saw him fundraising for some charity on YouTube years ago
Nonetheless, the title is evidently punnable

@g3rv4 that's okay.

Rob
Better than: The Chosen One.

Apparently he has six honorary doctorates

Rob
Yes but sports player and financiers also get those.
An honorary degree is an academic degree for which a university (or other degree-awarding institution) has waived all of the usual requirements, such as matriculation, attendance, course credits, a dissertation, and the passing of comprehensive examinations. It is also known by the Latin phrases honoris causa ("for the sake of the honour") or ad honorem ("to the honour"). The degree is typically a doctorate or, less commonly, a master's degree, and may be awarded to someone who has no prior connection with the academic institution or no previous postsecondary education. An example of identifying...
Basically the opposite of perfect attendance, highest marks, and higher marks each time you go back.

@Rob Gooootcha, thank you. That makes sense. My response was a misunderstanding of the language.
@Rob I recognized you, though I did not know that several people were review banned/removed recently. I'm trying to be careful with my feedback, and you've just made sure it's better int he future. Cheers :)

1:08 AM
@M.A.R. but do you want to?
@M.A.R. Goes into the ticketing system

@Aibobot hi

hi

Rob
@Spevacus You seem like a good person, and I wouldn't want you to find out a couple of months from now that you simply have too many incorrect reviews. Those settings (Feedbacks) you are using 'denylist' (if that's the word we are using, in the months / years to come) that person's account and increase the weight on their future posts.
Someone else did send them a comment saying that what they did was inappropriate, if they don't do it again all is good. If it keeps up then they probably will get a kick.
Essentially what they wrote was: 'Oh expletive, "me too", keyboardbash' - so that could be edited to simply be NAA; but that's not worth the effort; so it should simply be DV'd / flagged (on site) and deleted.
So, that's why we try to be gentle with the 'Nuke Button's.

1:24 AM
@M.A.R. I get a reply in a few days, but most of my CM contacts are probably urgent things, and rare

CM contacts?

@Rob Ah, I've gotcha. Thanks for the more detailed explanation. You're a good person too :)

@AnnZen contact us + a few other things
My main account has mod powers so there's a few additional things we can let CMs know about, people threatening suicide (which mods are not equipped to handle) and such

Cool. Are you a demi mod?

uhh no
:D
My main account is a mod on MSE and Super User. There's no such thing as a demi mod.

1:36 AM
Little too close to "demi god" for me.

Rob
1:50 AM
@AnnZen @Jou's a Modies

2:24 AM
@Aibobot Then what do you mean by mod powers?

@AnnZen a mod has mod powers :D
but this account does not, not being a mod
(I use a second account on my work PC, for... reasons...)

Yes, but you said My main account has mod powers, what did you mean?

@AnnZen I am using a second account at work - under very careful constraints

So you're second account is a mod?

no, my main account is a mod - I use this account on a work PC since I don't want to use my mod account on a PC I don't fully control

2:28 AM
oh
May I ask which community do you moderate?

> My main account is a mod on MSE and Super User. There's no such thing as a demi mod.
(Journeyman Geek is my main account)

SO mod election is here, and I might not be able to vote :(

uh, don't do... that?

if you're referring to the irregularicy, I didn't

well, doubly so then

2:43 AM
@Aibobot Okay, doubly don't do what? :)

whatever it is you didn't do.

Thanks.

Morning!

._.
Afternooooon

I wish it were, then it's almost weekend!

5:51 AM
lol
I work tommorrow night...
and I had to deal with HR today...
they needed a copy of my ID (which I had to swap for my access pass so I popped down, left and came back to work just so I could photograph my ID), and were asking about gaps in my resume...
uh... I've been working here 2 years :D

Heh.
Tomorrow night work is :(
The gaps in your resume... yeah uh... that's weird :P
But perhaps it's just something they ask anyone they're hiring about, and since they're only really hiring you now...

(I have terrible luck getting jobs the 'normal' way..)
@Tinkeringbell oh, they're all explainable :D
but bleh

I get it, I think.

I was just reading something recently about how making big deals about employment gaps are problematic because they force people (particularly women) to reveal information that's protected. For example, taking off two years for early childcare means you've just told your employer you have a family.

Isn't that something you want your employer to know, so you can get child-care leave if e.g. one gets sick?!

6:02 AM
@Catija heh
I literally couldn't find work :D

@Tinkeringbell You want an employer to know, yes... but you don't want a potential employer to know because they may make employment decisions based on it.

I was applying to stuff, trying to use government assistance, which sucked...

I remember. :(

they also asked if I was retrenched before... (the dneg one I guess)
but that is one of those super :( things
they were a great employer, it was a excellent place to work...
until it wasn't

That's okay though, an employer is buying your services and they want to get the most for their money. If I'm buying something and it only functions when the moon is full, I want to know so I can see if I can buy something for the same money that works on other days as well. Employment is just selling yourself, and lying about your specs is not great because you'll be deceiving your employer :/

Only telling an employer and not a potential employer is too late in the process, you're basically signing contracts on false pretenses then...

6:12 AM
... Um... it's illegal in the US for employers to ask about family so... Maybe this is just a US thing. But ... no. Employers are not allowed to discriminate against people who have families.

@Tinkeringbell on the other hand - even with good employers, you can't really totally trust them
@Tinkeringbell I told them the truth, dosen't mean I need to be happy they asked :D

@Aibobot Oh, true. But that's no reason for me to hide stuff either...

In the US, companies used to fire women as soon as they got married so they didn't have to deal with them getting pregnant. Andy's mom had to promise that she wasn't pregnant and wasn't planning to get pregnant in order to get a job.

These gaps are in my resume.
which i provided to every employer.

@Catija Yeah, that used to be a thing here too, shortly after WWII.

6:14 AM
Actually - its the same one I've been using for a half decade, updated to where I am
and at least one of those breaks was cause I was taking care of my dad and mom
(another one was cause, yanno, issues, but that's private)

That said, the whole suspicion and not talking about family thing does sound very American. Heck, I guess 'family' is one of the small talk conversations here, part of almost anyones lines if you ask them 'can you tell me something about yourself', together with where you live and what your hobbies are.
Which is basically... standard introductions being exchanged.

@Tinkeringbell Or asian, or anywhere where corporations have a stronger ability to influence things than people
also uhhh
I've been working for them as a contractor for 2 years :D
so its not a 'new' employee

Would you get paid better working for them directly? Or have other benefits?

@Catija uhhhh
I actually think the benefits are marginally worse :D
swapping out 14 days of leave for 7 days + flexi leave
but trying to bide my time until I get a better job
there's that other issue with ... uh... "We don't want to know if you have a non compete"

:/

6:33 AM
Lunch time...

Enjoy :)

@JourneymanGeek I can't find the explanation (I think from Jon E) that there was a button to push (maybe only sometimes) but I remember seeing it, also a promoting in the comments for the CM to tell us the outcome. It's possible that the answer to that question is hidden in the intricacies of these answers: meta.stackexchange.com/a/77560/282094
@ShadowWizardWearingMask It's not impossible:
*"a promoting in" should have been: "a prompting in".
