Morning.
Any one verify this bug on other site. I am not going to post any gibberish from my sock account :D. May be MOD do this :) . Actually I expect line break on title.

Q: Question title heading outside of design box?

ShreeI am not active member of salesforce but active spam hunter. One of our bot caught this question which draw my attention. Long title with out space (In this case it's gibberish) heading out of design box. Browser Google Chrome Version 76.0.3809.100 (Official Build) (64-bit)

^^

I feel like this has been noted before, but all I could find was this:

Q: Titles that are exceedingly long extend too far into the right and may crowd the poor "Ask Question" button

Karan DesaiSee the image. A question with long title made the "Ask Question" appear to be the part of that question!! The "Ask Question" button intrudes inside Question title unintentionally. Please provide it a "space" of fresh air

Lots of bugs reported about the other problem, where on mobile devices the button drops below the title
Probably caused by the fix for this:

Q: On sites with new responsive theme, word wrap on long titles breaks in the middle of a word

Ben MillerFor sites that have the new responsive theme enabled, where the "Ask Question" button is in line with the question title on question pages, the word wrap on long titles is not working correctly. It will break a word across two lines. Here is an example from Personal Finance and Money: Maximum ...

I feel like balpha demonstrated how to fix this at one point, but I was a poor student

Ahhhhaaa. Thanks.

@Shog9 I feel like I remember Aaron talking about it ... there was some difficulty finding a sweet spot for forcing a line break... but I thought it'd been fixed... apparently not. :/
Or I guess it could be a regression.

Q: Do I put the salt in water to rid a bad spirit?? Or dry salt?

AndronI've had a spirit messing with me. Something I invited in accidentally. The cross of JESUS has worked but I heard of salt as well. Thought a little extra would help

Is this edit war still going on??

11:16 AM
Yep . Looks like that. This time OP using wrong word. Mod flag ?

Looks like mods are aware?

What is with this heavy-handed editing? meta.stackoverflow.com/posts/388696/revisions
I'd rather rely on other mechanisms for dealing with rude or inflammatory text than rewriting someone's entire post. :/

eh, roll back?

@Aibobot While I personally find that kind of an edit a much more insidious censorship than a flag/removal, I really don't know if maybe that's the preferred method given SE's push for a culture-shift.

@canon eh, in these situations I think the OP's tone is pretty important

@Aibobot I'd agree that tone is an important aspect of any communication. I'd feel uncomfortable in forcibly changing another author's tone.

2:12 PM
@canon Oh true, those are never the most comforting edits to make... In this case though, just wait to see if the OP rolls back. If they do, flag. If not, well... Someone was just helped to be more constructive, by someone that could see the idea they were proposing behind the language used. Doesn't sound too bad to me :)

@canon eh, that's in no way a officially sanctioned way to do that as I understand
And if someone is already irate - it may not help

@Aibobot The FAQ on R/A flags mentions to edit otherwise valid posts if they contain rude language instead of flagging them ;)

eh, I guesssss

I'm sure ;)
And bored.

lol
I'm at work!

2:30 PM
Still in Germany. Just did the booze shopping (Stuff is a lot cheaper here), tonight I'll be packing my bags and then tomorrow will be driving home. Then another week of vacation there... And only then will it be time to get back to work :)

Ya, I saw on twitter lol

The booze isn't even on Twitter yet :P But it's been a good 5 days. Got loads of thinking and reading done, and more exercise than I had in a month :P

2011: "I hate 3D stuff. It gives me a headache" https://xkcd.com/880/
2019: "Great graphics" https://www.xkcd.com/2192/
So, the world's 3D technology did improve.

Why is associated with the Lua language for syntax highlighting?

they just needed to get the refresh rate up

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog if memory serves - SE just uses a google lib for that
so... I don't think anyone would know directly

@Aibobot No, while the highlighters themselves aren't controlled by SE, the specific highlighter to use is able to be changed on SE by moderators. See its expanded tag wiki for what I'm talking about.

ah
That's odd
And dosen't seem quite right
And needs folks to dig deeper. Could you point that out, in detail on a meta post?

3:31 PM
Not sure if it'd be well-received since it's an extremely minor issue.

shrug Its an issue.
And honestly - its the best way to track the issue

I don't think there are very many questions tagged that actually use code blocks and would thus be affected by it.

meh, you ok with me doing it with this account?
I'm really too lazy to ask it on my main

I'm not talking about me and my rep, or whatever. I'm just saying that if people consider it insignificant, it'll be deleted after 30+ days, and thus never addressed.

bleh
You do already have my attention

3:34 PM
Besides, technical flaws that don't actually visibly manifest or affect things tend to be negatively received.

Which is totally about rep
ya, I'll bring it up

People often think, it's insignificant, SE shouldn't waste their time
@Aibobot Okay, but it's also about the Roomba.

I don't really care about that

Besides, once you get back to your main account, you can fix it yourself

I'll forget!

3:35 PM
Ah, makes sense.

I'm doing it now

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog there we are.
We should get an answer in 6-8 weeks.... (I keed)
I do think I should discuss this, then find out where this is actually set, since I don't think SU does syntax highlighting
ok, that's at +2. That's slightly unexpected.

In which case I have never done it before.
But yeah, if another mod hasn't done it, I'll deal with it in a day or two

Read any good tweets lately?
I haven't, especially not from Stack people.

All of these events, meeting and greeting the Class of 2023, are such a display of optimism. Surely the human civilization will cease existing by then.
The people arranging these things are probably in the market for 100 year US government bonds, too.

4:16 PM
@404 Civilizations come and go and societies tumble, but apes with matchsticks are here to stay.

Q: Six simple tips to get Stack Overflow reputation fast - 2019 version

kelahcim Time flies when you are having fun. It's 2019 already, I guess, it's time to refresh "reputation" strategies. This post Six simple tips to get Stack Overflow reputation fast contains lots of good ideas. But hey, it's a new era already. Internet's time is like 10x regular one. So, here comes th...

i'd hazard a guess this is someone's sock

It does work. It got an upvote ...

I have an Unprotect questions in a batch userscript that ofc is now broken with the new page under /tools/protected-questions but also never really worked because the xhr.send is commented. I can't find a post where I have mentioned that user script. Weird. And it is version 0.2 so I must have had bug reports

this sounds familiar
@Catija weren't you using some sort of script for that page?

@Shog9 rene made it for me.

I did?
Oh...
It is now broken. You need a 0.3 version?

I haven't used it in a while. Trying to remember where it came up. I know it had something to do with IPS getting a ton of questions protected for no good reason and I was frustrated by not being able to sort the protected questions page.
So... probably sometime in late summer or fall of 2017.
I asked the question Shog just status-completed in December 2017, so I guess around that time.

8:01 PM
:D
well, magic. I fixed it.
version 0.3 is ready ...
Until someone decides to have 2 tbody elements inside a div with id='content'
Assuming things will be stable for 6 to 8 weeks

@Catija in case anyone asks: version 0.3 with the safe-guard still on.

8:20 PM
Ahah, the circus that is my solar panels continues.
It'd be funny, if it wasn't so darned frustrating.

@SonictheAnonymousHedgehog awww, it's deleted. I'm always entertained to read people's theories on how to gain rep fast...

They're supposed to be "finished" today. Even got the final invoice. But darned if anybody is telling me what's going on.

@AaronHall i.stack.imgur.com/2C2BT.jpg there you go

"raise and shine" lol

Actually some of those points are almost useful

8:27 PM
Yeah, that was a fun read.

Is it still Happy Hour ?
Guys, I got a notification saying "A scheduled chat session will happen soon". Am I in the wrong place?
I meant to say "guys and girls"

looks like it starts in 2 hours

@user1271772 Its always happy hour if you want it to be.

I want it to be.
Guys when did HappyHour change from 4pm EST to 7pm EST ?

@user1271772 it didn't?

It's always been 7pm EST?
I thought it used to be 3 hours earlier.

9:07 PM
AFAIK

Do any of you know a guy named Martin - γƒžγƒΌγƒγƒ³ ?

I know a Martin. Not with Chinese? characters for a surname though

9:23 PM
Those are Japanese characters
It literally says "Ma-ru-ti-n" in Japanese!
I've been trying to get in touch with Martin on chat, about an Area51 proposal, do you know if he ever comes here?
I made a chat room a few days ago and invited him.

Never seen them around here. If I do I'll point them to you.

@user1271772 It's at 5pm SST, Shog Standard Time.
@user1271772 The original version was better, imo.

He's back?
He used to be here back in the day.
For a long time he didn't come here much anymore, so I stopped coming.
That guy Shog was pretty cool though.
@404

@rene what do you mean on the wire?

@Tinkeringbell: this is the other guy (not Shog, but Martin with the Japanese characters): area51.meta.stackexchange.com/users/139389/…

9:37 PM
@KevinB what is send in the HTTP request. That should be shown in the network tab

@user1271772 I know about Shog, heard rumours about that guy. Didn't he once freeze this room to explain your suspension to you?

Haha, you remember that?

Barely :P

It wasn't about a suspension, it was about a Meta post where I got like 16 downvotes and got very upset about it.

9:39 PM
the googlebot useragent given by the dropdown that user suggested is a bit more than what I used

@KevinB ok, hold on

I came here to complain about all the downvotes on my Meta post and then Shog came and did this thing where no one could talk except for him.
And these numbers popped up on the screen, counting down to 0.

yeah no matter how i do it it works
using network conditions, the chrome provided googlebot useragent,

9:53 PM
@KevinB well, you must be in the magic inner IP circle, I can't get it to work, nor in chrome, nor in curl

i couldn't get it to work in curl on a remote server either
maybe i'm just special
(cleaned up my comments)

@Feeds This is probably the latest time of the day that a regular (MWF) comic ever appeared.
Possibly drawn at the last minute, too.
<- started watching BTTF a few times, never finished.
Possibly, Randall was trying to catch up with email inbox and forgot to draw a comic.
Whatever, it's just a comic. And today is a holiday.

BTW Google does understand "N days from now", for example "1800 days from now" returns "Saturday July 27, 2024". But it's not consistent: 1800 and 1900 work, 1850 does not.

30 minutes to go on this shift
I wonder if I'll have the obligatory deluge of helpdesk emails shortly before its up
