@forest I assume you flagged that for a mod already, right?

Rob
I did

okay

Rob
They also had a few unsavory comments which were nuked by a flag

I just submitted an edit suggestion.
Didn't even think about flagging it for a mod. Whoops.

That is enough attention then

> you can't ask a question without some elitist internet points person trying to be important.
Such arrogance!

I have a question about the "people reached" counter. If I answer a post that has 100k views and imy answer gets e.g 10 upvotes. Will the counter then add the 100k people to the sum or only the anount of people visiting that post from now?

@Jdrupal The count directly adds to your profile.

user569408
@NogShine OK, thank you.

@Jdrupal You're welcome.

Today is really a lazy day for me... so unproductive, can't think clearly...

why can't I raise a VLQ flag here?

@rene Answer is old. We can only raise a VLQ flag within 1 week of posting.

Oh, I must have always flagged new answers then. Never realized.
thanks

Wait, I was productive today, spamming nuke post

Spamming nuke post, eh?

9:55 AM
> can't think clearly...

Hahaha

Does that become rude if I add a comma? can't think, clearly...

@rene Symbol and punctuation placement is extremely important:

:D

whoa
I got home from work at half past ten in the morning, went to sleep and woke up at ... pm
I had quite a long worknight XD

@M.A.R. Well the comment is now gone, so... an impersonator?
Although the comment wasn't trollish at all.
IMO better to close off blog comments at all than have this parody of discussion.
SO is halfway through the 3-vote closing period.

@404 eh. They tried that. It didn't go well
Trick is getting folks to engage constructively - and least on the short term, frustratingly, some folks have trouble doing that talking to staff
I don't entirely blame them, but ironically, it makes it really hard for folks to actually get heard
@404 so here? I'm not sure your opinion matters...

404
It absolutely doesn't.

but hey, folks are actually trying to work out a happy medium

404
For things that matter, there are places other than SE and its chat.

Meta is scary for employees? I brought up the current blog post on MSE, and folks in the company seem to be responding

In comments, where they can't be downvoted.

nope
in answers
well, yes in comments
but are we trying to communicate or punish?
cause I'd rather have comments from folks who help make the decisions than... nothing
And they can't listen to everyone - but they can go "Hey, this is what people think" when making the decision.
Which I would think downvoting dosen't actually do

the small dog is even on desks now

pure pandemonium

@404 as opposed to?
Loud minority who is actually invested in... well the site

Sure. What's your alternative?
Not having folks listen to anyone at all?

404
I don't need one.
They are smart, they can figure things out.

Everyone has blind spots
no matter how smart
But if you're going to say "this won't work" I'd love to know what will
@Magisch does he jump up?
or do people pick him up and out him down?

@Aibobot both

The people who are actually invested in the site are its shareholders.
I think SE has some, though the shares aren't publicly traded.

Investment isn't just money

I recall some employee mentioning stock options as a part of their package.

I'm talking about time, energy and emotional investment
yanno, the reason people are here. Cause I sure as hell don't make money off any of this
In a broader sense - well
why people even bother

@Aibobot I do
The basic skills I use to make a living I have acquired with the help and support of stack overflow

@Magisch I'm not at the moment ;p

2:17 PM
@Aibobot I'm wasting money instead...

But the point I was trying to make is that folks outside the company actually do have a reason to try to affect things
@MetaAndrewT. internet, computers....
yeah.

The conveniently summarized table in 2018 in closing can be used to determine the threshold for closing across SE. It ought to scale with the ability of the userbase to effect closing (and reopening), not be tied to whatever is optimal for SO.
If non-mods close less than, say, 25% of the total, the threshold could be lowered without any worries about close-reopen wars.
If there aren't 5 users voting to close at present, there aren't going to be ~15-18 voters needed for several close-reopen actions at 3 votes per action.
Although some of the sites at the bottom just happen to have mods with a lot of time to check the site.

What is this wizard? The wizard presents an alternate question-asking mode that we call guided mode, offering askers detailed instructions and direction about how to ask a question and what to include. We kept the original question-asking page intact, calling it traditional mode. Before launching the wizard, we tested a final version of it in an A/B test. We found that question quality, which we define and explain in detail here, improved in an absolute sense by modest amounts for askers with reputation less than 111 (the asker population we included in that test). There was a 5.1 …

@Feeds nice story. Good to see the wizard has a positive impact on the Q quality

I found it difficult to consume

@rene NAA flag has the same effect
@Feeds New users are 40% more likely to receive unfriendly comments
Too bad most CS people aren't teachers.

5:18 PM
@KevinB yeah its writing could be simplified a bit. A bit too sciency written IMHO. Almost like a published paper xD

6:17 PM
404 and Luuklag's identicons look similar from far... and I wa stripped by it

404
No stripping in this chat.
Time/energy/emotion... are not investments, they are charitable contributions.
Sunk cost fallacy makes people think of them as investment, though.

6:39 PM
@JourneymanGeek From what I've seen, this feed doesn't seem to include autoflagged posts

@404 I disagree

> There was a 5.12% decrease in bad quality questions, and a 1.12% increase in good quality questions.

"two decimals of accuracy, so this is obviously very good"
"Bad" questions that would previously be closed as Off-Topic on SO are now gently directed to SoftwareRecs, where they are closed as Off-Topic.
