Q: Why isn't providing feedback mandatory on downvotes, and why are ideas suggesting such shot down?

Note: This question seems to come up routinely on this site from new users. Most of the time, when it does, we close it as a duplicate of Encouraging people to explain downvotes. However, I feel that that question doesn't do a very good job of why we don't want to force people to comment on do...

Meh... At least we got clear announcement this time, and not just disappearing into thin air like other employees often do.

The diamond was removed on the day of the announcement, even before the end of business (5pm EST).

It does seem unusual to have a kind of a retirement party with network-wide publicity but without the person.

I donno... Retirement parties always feel a bit like funerals. Bunch of people gather together to remember their time with someone. Sure, everyone says something to the person of the day, but... They're mostly awkward conversations.
