@Tinkeringbell yup. So, a meeting. How many people are there?

@JNat daily network spammer for you... thanks! :)

@ShadowWizard a short & quick overview on each member progress and today's target... or something like that
(at least that's what we do in "daily scrum meeting")

@andmyself yeah, guess it's what all companies have, with one name or another, just wondering how many people attend that meeting in @Tinker's place. ;)

8:05 AM
@ShadowWizard ... 1 :(

For my company it's just called "meeting" or sometimes "staff meeting". :)

@ShadowWizard No such command 'trogdor'.

oooh... feature request related to downvote... grabs popcorn

8:38 AM
@andmyself this one?

yeah

Sadly, by now the culture on the network has "evolved" to a point where users think they are entitled to vote as they wish. Votes, originally meant to be a way to increase visibility of good content, aren't in any way bound to be used in the "correct" way. Often, jokes are made to dismiss and make fun of the problem, like "you were downvoted because Tim lost his keys" or other similar recurring memes... Anyway, I fear the best suggestion I can give you is only one, very pessimistic: drop this, very few are interested in enforcing "correct" voting, and you'll avoid a lot of stress this way. — SPArchaeologist 12 mins ago
btw......

@Derpy nice! Wonder if anyone already burned the wooden miniatures... ;-)

the Trogdor boardgame would be a very nice swag prize

Indeed.

Quick question: Is it against the ToS to call for banning gay marriage and call homosexuals evil and "detestable"?

@Tinkeringbell that's the whole infamous team #3? ;)

@Tinkeringbell took a while for stand-up to finish...

@forest yes

10:12 AM
@Mithrandir Even if it's on the Christianity Stack Exchange?

@forest it's against the CoC, yes. Flag as rude.

@ShadowWizard Yep. A Product owner, business analist, scrum master, 2 developers( including me) and 2 testers . So technically 7 :P

> As one who has a vested interest in not rejecting God, I do not want my government, acting on my behalf, endorsing that which I detest.
Like that sort of thing.

pretty much, yes; the ToS includes the CoC, which that would appear to violate

oh, old answers. That's something else. Thought you talk about comments.

in... that context it's a bit iffy, but I'd say that can slide

10:14 AM
IMO just leave those old answers alone.

OK

it's presented in a respectful enough manner

The religious sites always contain the... weirdest things.
Hell I even saw something promoting wife-beating recently.

@ShadowWizard I think you will fall in the "holy field of theology".

Digging old skeletons from their grave will only cause harm with no benefit.

10:15 AM
By a moderator, no less.
@ShadowWizard Can't tell if that was intended to be dark irony...

@forest this time it's not. :)

Basically, you can say what you wish, only requirement is that you pass it as "being part of the religion/culture/whatever" you were talking about and not a personal endorsement.

The person who posted that answer died, so it seemed like it was. :P

@ShadowWizard Unhappy 7, more likely :P

morning

So, for example, you can say that "teaching xyz condones [insert evil thing here]" but probably you could be reported if you say that "you condone [insert evil thing here]"
Obviously, this works on paper...

I wish there were a way to flag without signing up to the site. :/
I don't want to be seen on Islam.SE just to report someone saying why wife-beating is good if your wife isn't subservient.

keep waiting

@forest there is. Hint: a bird.
and it works much better and faster than flags.
</rant>

Ah good point.

10:20 AM

Hey I wouldn't be against that. That and Islam sites have a lot of...
objectionable content, to say the least.

can y'all just not

I think that is someone was to start a tweet about some of that thorny stuff...

Actually that's not a bad idea.

*long sigh*

10:21 AM
this would be the time SE shuts down
so let the thorny stuff stay were it is now.

"Am I allowed to beat my wife if she doesn't <insert some barely pronounceable thing here>?" "Yes it's acceptable, as the <holy book> says women must obey their husbands." linked in a tweet would do the job. lol

Let's not get into this now please

lol ok

religion sites do sometimes deal with concepts that in a modern context sound strange. that doesn't mean that it's actually practiced in the modern day; abstract discussions do happen. debating whether or not those should happen belongs on their meta, not here

I'm pretty sure saying that wife beating is acceptable and encouraged as long as you don't break bones is... not acceptable in any modern context.
(And yeah, it is practiced in the modern day, unfortunately. Hopefully never because of an encouraging post on SE...)

10:24 AM
Some say that allowing for sites like Life Hacks or Medical Advice was a bad idea. Actually, having religion themed sites was probably a worse one. Drawing a line between religion and inquisition, exposition and promotion is just hard.
And probably something I wouldn't have had to meddle with, IF I were the one to decide.
but it is too late now.

In general SE is supposed to be a repository of information, not of superstition. But you're right, it is too late now (though it's always possible to be a little more strict and not have site-specific moderators who actively encourage wife beating).

@forest And the religion sites are that, repositories of information on how different religions look at different 'problems'.

@forest if you keep going on that beating theme I'll kick you from this room.
and that crossed the line
Can we now move on to a different topic? Thanks

OK OK, I'll use less offensive examples.

@Tinkeringbell this time, without "A"?

@rene Was the issue that it was offensive or could be triggering? I'm genuinely curious so I know what exactly to avoid doing. I can use less upsetting examples when reporting or mentioning problematic behavior on the site if that is required.

Anyways.
We have this wonderful scrum mistress.
master? What's the female version of scrum master?

that's.... a good question... I think...

10:32 AM
@forest your examples are just off-limits. And not needed. And not here in this room. And you were told so by at least two RO's before I stepped in. Continuing on that path contributed to my action as you didn't seem to be eager to stop.

She has just spent half an hour pushing us to 'find a way to finish this sprint'. While DTAP-street issues and processes are going to make it impossible to do so. But, in a true agile way, of course the processes go first!
Sooooo...
I'm not allowed to help by manually propagating changes between Development, Test, Acceptation and Production
I'm not allowed to help the testers with their workload
I'm not allowed to pull any new programming work into this sprint either
So basically we won't get this sprint done because I'll be eating from my nose.

Yes, calling a sprint a miss is hard ...

'find a way to finish this sprint' -> 'drop all current sprint targets' :)

@andmyself We're not allowed to do that either :P

@Tinkeringbell wait. what? Are they on your team?

10:35 AM
@rene Yep. 2 devs, 2 dedicated testers. Bogus team.
No automated tests either.
I guess it's time to shout that it's only 26 more workdays after this one ;)

but then you should be allowed to help the testers ....
"SINO" it is ...

@rene Tell that to miss scrum master
and the product owner btw.
@rene Probably, yeah. And I thought we were doing so well :/

The scrum master should be managing the external blocking issues while the team still makes progress.
as long as they focus on adding business value

@rene Well... She's kinda both. She wants to be in the middle of everything but I don't get the impression she's actually able to allow us to make progress.
I'm used to be on a much more independent team. This is really, really stifling.

10:53 AM
@Tinkeringbell does she care about the success of the work? Does she want to make something actually working? Or she just need to justify her work and push responsibility over someone else?

Well at least that gave me some time to half-finish some code.
Gah, where the hell do I find the room rules? (can someone link it?)

we don't have specific rules. We use common sense.

@Derpy no. Just shrink back to SOFU.

I didn't know that mentioning <what was mentioned> was unacceptable. My bad.
I would appreciate a more specific warning in the future, since I had stopped talking about <what was talked about> but still got kicked. I'm not very good at guessing what things people are uncomfortable around if it's not patently offensive. Apologies to anyone who might have been triggered or upset at anything negative I mentioned. I will avoid mentioning upsetting or heavy topics from now on.

11:09 AM
@forest common sense and the CoC. :)

Well, the CoC I know I was following at least. :P

And "listen to Room Owners" is also a common sense rule.

How do you tell who is a room owner?

Name in italics.
Blue is mod, italics RO.

All I saw was one person say not to mention bea****, then kicked me even after I stopped. So I couldn't tell who did what.
@ShadowWizard Oh that makes sense.

11:11 AM
@forest yep chat got some sense. :)

I still prefer IRC where an ASCII symbol is prepended to names. :P
Plus then you can PM ops to ask for clarification.
And/or suck up to another op in the room who sympathizes. lol

^rene

@forest let's say that the escalating nature of your messages to inflict pain on humans were disturbing. You playing innocent now isn't appreciated either, at least not by me.

@rene You might have misunderstood me. I was never advocating those things and think they are reprehensible. I was talking about how upsetting it was to see a moderator on another SE site advocating them.

And we have asked you to stop.
So let's do that

11:16 AM
OK, then please try to explain in a private message rather than here (otherwise it looks like trying to force the last word / refuse to clear up misunderstandings). I would be happy to understand the actual situation in private.
So, on to a new topic...

@forest there is no private here and I'm not going to rehash what I already said

I thought you could create a custom room for individuals?

sure, that is still not private

Anyway, it appears you have misunderstood what I had said or my intentions. I just wanted to clear that up so there isn't any further tension (I don't condone bad stuff).

great

11:18 AM
Oh I get what you mean. I meant private like, direct and out of the way.

Q: Chrome showing blue dot on a tab that has no changes

Shadow WizardI printed something in a Chrome tab, and switched to different tab then noticed a blue dot: I switched back to the tab, dot was gone, but nothing there changed. It is ordinary print form: (contents redacted for security, it's not really blank, but also not changing.) I am aware of ...

@andmyself ^
Let's see if anyone can solve this weirdness...
@forest we can create new rooms for one-on-one discussion that better not litter existing room, but those rooms won't be private. Anyone can see them, and if the room isn't Gallery, anyone can also write in there. It is useful, e.g. that's how I brought @publicstaticvoidmain in here. /cc @rene :)
So even in those rooms, we must keep the CoC and guidelines.

@ShadowWizard Yeah I don't mind that it's not private. I just don't want to risk getting banned for attempting to clear up a misunderstanding (which I'm sure would happen if I had explained what I had said and why it was misunderstood).

Only moderators can create real private rooms, that ordinary users can't access unless invited by the moderator.

But I don't know the name for those rooms and am used to the term "private message" to describe a 1-on-1 communication.

@forest no official/common name. I call them "one on one rooms".

11:30 AM
huh

@forest so you can create such a room and invite those you want, can also be more than one. Just don't push it, if those you invite not showing up, let it go.
You can invite users via their chat profile.
(i.e. you don't have to post here)

Sure, and I doubt he would show up anyway. I just didn't want the understanding that I was sending "messages promoting hurting people" or whatever uncorrected.
I tried that before but it appears to have changed locations. Where is it now?

@forest where is what?

Wait nevermind. The button to create a new room. It must have just disappeared while I was temporarily suspended.

Yup while chat banned you can't create new rooms.

11:33 AM
Ah makes sense. Thought I could since I could still chat on other site rooms.

@forest you mean different chat domain. You could create rooms there just fine.

I probably should have realized that lol

MSE chat has its own 100% independant domain and server.

huh
lmao

11:34 AM
That's @Derpy being artistic while sending a message. ;)

It's ironic that Twitter probably is actually the best place to cause change. :D

@forest If you've been kicked three times you get blocked from creating new rooms, I believe. I can't check if you've hit that without mod tools, though.

If it works for worldwide things, why not SE, heh? :)

The above image should sum up our current chat status, and give you a pretty good idea about why you shouldn't mention "yokai" here

@Mithrandir blocked forever? :/

11:36 AM
@ShadowWizard forever or until a mod clears it, I think
that might only kick in when you've reached the point where a kick lasts 30 minutes
pun intended

@Mithrandir I think I have. Was kicked once from a room for... I forget what, I think arguing with someone. And here I was kicked twice, once for hitting submit the split second after I was told to drop it, and another time because the ro thought I was promoting violence rather than condemning it a second later.

@Mithrandir buh... so complicated. giving up

@Mithrandir Well my kick did last 30 minutes. :D

So you might indeed be banned from creating new rooms, @forest.

Lemme test that out, one sec.

11:39 AM
oh. You can. lol
Got your invite. :)

OK looks like it worked.
Yeah I just said testing.

@Mithrandir That shows as 404 for me. Must be mod-only.

@Mithrandir 404, even when I put my own ID. What's that?

Yep. Even I can't see it.

11:40 AM
@Derpy She wants us to reach goals. She also only wants us to reach that goal her way ;)

What does that imply?

That's where someone with a diamond on this chat server would check if you can create rooms or not.

Ah

@Tinkeringbell her goals?

@Derpy Not only 'hers'... goal here is e.g. also a story we said we'd finish this sprint ;)

11:43 AM
Need to read scroll log more fully. :P

At least not backlock. ;)

@Tinkeringbell there is a great difference in working with someone and working using someone. I was wondering what is your situation, for I know the second one is far more common.

The problem is here is partially that nothing is automated, and partially that she's counting storypoints as workdays.
@Derpy Definitely the second, while pretending the first.

I think I still have a story I started 2 years ago running and not finished. lol

@Derpy yokai watch

11:46 AM
@Tinkeringbell welcome to the club then.

@Derpy I know. We just had a really nice lunch and we spent it ranting :P

@andmyself well, our chat room right now can probably be also summed up to another image.

Said the God of the Silence Between Words: “The absence of a zero implies a presence. The presence of a zero implies an absence. When the serpent devours its tail up to the tip of its tongue, then what remains?”

that is an eye, not a diamond.
still, very strange since she has 6 eyes, not three.
so that single "diamond" is not a single eye.
it is four closed eyes, somehow taking that shape.

@AndrasDeak ? what?? but, yep, that one is indeed Raven

if you're referencing the new live-action Titans TV series, everyone is bad in that because it is bad

Do you realize that one is Marvel, one is DC?

Noooooo
(yes)
If it were Marvel I'd be slightly more familiar with it. You know, on account of marvel being better

considering that Tera was almost totally rewritten from the original meh character to the one in the animated "jp" show, I suspected your message was a joke about that

2:28 PM
I understood some of those words

(and I still suspect that Terra is the main reason that animated show was cancelled, but that is another story)

Terabytes the dust?

yeah, with one r I get weird (tentacly) results
Was "love me" etched into the ground behind her on that cover? Hehe, that's horrible
I'm sure there's context I'm missing

I am not a big fan of American superhero comics, so I can't really reply.
What I can tell, is that the first Teen Titans show is a product of a collaboration between America and some Japanese studio
Apparently, they took some liberty with the original scripts and background stories of the characters
as a result, the final product seems to be far more "anime" like than other superhero cartoons
I know that Terra backstory and character progression in that show is very different from the one she has in the original comics.
that show was also suddenly dropped and left without an ending
I think that some form of "executive meedling" may have been involved
I know that Disney is very famous for "censoring" plots that go against established status-quo
I don't know if DC is the same.

2:45 PM
the new titans seems good

@JourneymanGeek define "new titans"
and please, don't use the word "Go!"

@Derpy live action show
its grimdark a little
but they're actually doing a pretty good job at charecter development IMO

@Tinkeringbell I don't see it

@ShadowWizard You never will, it is my desk. Not yours ;)

@Tinkeringbell is it really yours? Did you pay for it?

@ShadowWizard It is mine, I've laid claim to it. It's called theft.

@JourneymanGeek I missed that trailer. And I wish it stayed that way.

@Tinkeringbell did you mark your territory on the table?

@ShadowWizard Course I did! I put empty coffee cups on all four corners.

@Tinkeringbell aren't those cups falling when you bang your head on the desk?

2:52 PM
@ShadowWizard Nah, it's a really good desk. Really stable. More stable than me at the moment :P

@Tinkeringbell Good. So just don't break it. ;)
What's on your stable desk? @Tink

@ShadowWizard 4 empty coffee cups and my head?

Oh, so that is your "BANG YOUR HEAD HERE!" desk. Nice.
Anyone should have such a desk.
People bang their head into things they actually need then rant about how it breaks them. :D

(gotta run. We'll talk head banging desks more tonight if you like :P)
