Ok, which out of these, which is the most important thing for a company: 1) users 2) paying customers 3)share/stake holders, 4) company's employees, 5) society & 6) others (please specify)

2 and 3

user202362
2) and 3) are more or less related

user's satisfaction?

no one gives a shit about employees.
Most companies probably consider users a product these days ;p

well, without users, what's the point of the company anyway

user202362
2:21 AM
what's the point of capitalism?

@Telkitty VTC, unclear. Needs company details. Facebook vs. Boeing vs. Exxon vs. GitHub, Inc, totally different priorities.

user202362
how are Facebook, Boeing, Exxon & GitHub different

Also depends on what stage the company is in.
But generally, without 2 and 3, you got nothing, and having 2 and 3 implies you've got the rest of the choices covered. So, yeah. 2 and 3.
Or, more ultimately, 6) Net Profit. Which implies all other options are taken care of, including 2 and 3, and covers all cases aside from companies in an initial startup phase.
Well, more accurately, "Money in the bank"

@Telkitty basically all the other systems vaguely suck unless you can completely remove the human element
command based economies can't really react as quickly
not to mention, most states don't have real capitalism
Of course, one can argue true capitalism is impossible as long as too much money, power and the ability to use knowledge is concentrated and doled out by a few.

2:52 AM
@JourneymanGeek One could, but first one should question if the world really needs yet another copy of that conversation in some chat room transcripts or comment archives somewhere, lol.

@JasonC I'd personally would argue less if I had gainful employment.

hehe

I would very much not mind trading my skills for money so I can trade that for material objects
that is the very definition of capitalism.
(granted, what is SE? I am trading my skills and knowledge for... imaginary internet points)
Its even arbitrary values of said imaginary internet points.

Stack Exchange is like unpaid work writing documentation for random people's Google questions
And I wouldn't have it any other way

lol
I actually vaguely disagree there ;p
I actually learn stuff/dig into stuff I wouldn't know of otherwise too

3:05 AM
@JourneymanGeek That's what she said.

@tchrist all work is a form of that economic model
If you do it for yourself, its probably fine
but then you need to find work.
and then there's a whole pyramid of people atop you

inverted pyramid

and there's body shops who primary concern is making as much profit off you and your customer...

aren't they all like that?

Diary of a Whimpy PhotographerI wish I have seen this board before. "Community" username just summarized everything so efficiently with lens compatibility. I hopped from one site to another and still didn't get the clarity of lenses. Thank God for your post.

@ShadowWizard I saw, once, on MSE, a feature request for the ability to add anchors to answers and link to arbitrary locations within an answer. Now I can't find it. Have you seen that one? Do you know where it's at?

John RudyI admit this feature request is probably somewhat limited in useful scope, but I'm throwing it out there anyway. Inspired by this answer, and because I want to use it on this one, I'm requesting that name be supported on a tags in posts. On very long answers, such as the closing/migration guidan...

This unfortunately won't fix your ability to see Google as an option on other sites until after you save it...

@JourneymanGeek congrats!

@JourneymanGeek congrats!

10:21 AM
another day, another IE bug.

Yeah, yay

So, what's your job? @Journeyman

general IT person

Where's your job? (e.g. close to home, far away)

is a job
20 minutes away

10:30 AM
Any job with "general" in its role description and without "manager" is.... fishy. o_O

overflow-y displaying empty whitespace in the container... and no other browser does that. Sigh.

I mean, they'll just let you do anything... @Journeyman

It pays ;p

Even clean the floors....

10:31 AM
and it fills the resume.

20 minutes away on car? Or on foot?

oh, nice.

Walk's maybe 40 or so
and well
Its a job

Yup
How big is the company this time?

10:33 AM
small, slightly chaotic private school Apparently mostly teaching foreigners english or something

@Derpy I think IE still does not support overflow-y to this day.... is it?
@JourneymanGeek huh! Sounds fitting for you. ;)

lol
It'll do for now. ;)

School for kids/teenagers/adults?

young adults.
I was hearing basically all the regional languages.

So people aged 30 or 40 can't learn there?

10:34 AM
lol
I donno
I think its literally folks who want to pass english to stay in singapore

Ask! :D

lol

You already got familiar with your boss?

I'll work it out when I get there.
My 'boss' has a broken leg

10:35 AM
the other guy, donno.

So how did he (she?) hire you?

I had an interview with the CEO ._.

oh, nice

and I had good references

Actually that was the case with me too when I was hired to amdocs, the PM hired me, not the GL, who was sick.
Not CEO, but one rank was skipped...

10:47 AM
@ShadowWizard it supports it, but 90% of the times it renders it wrong
Wait, strictly speaking it is not an overflow bug. It is a container size one
the container content is given a wrong size, so it get extra white space beyond the "display area" of the container. Enable the scroll, and the normally hidden white space becomes evident.

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Pattern-matching website in answer: Do I need sunglasses in the Dolomites? by James on travel.SE

@ShadowWizard discovered the cause. I dared to assume svg actually works without issues. If I remove the svg icons from the container the space is calculated correctly.

@Derpy SVG working in IE???? lol... that will never happen.

12:07 PM
@ShadowWizard the icon gets displayed. It even get displayed at the expected size
The bug requires a set of conditions to happen at the same time
flex-box rendering, min-height specified on the parent etc..
but as Rincewind said
Mar 21 at 13:46, by Derpy
> “Luck is my middle name," said Rincewind, indistinctly. "Mind you, my first name is Bad.”

still, not the worse case of "unlucky triggers" I saw.
My favorite one still is a sharePoint / IE bug that end up in a stuck browser under certain conditions.
IF the page is crafted in a certain way and you are in a sharepoint dialog, open a txt file from a document set folder and the browser will get stuck forcing you to kill the process via task manager.
This only happens if the dialog has been open using a specific casing for the "isDlg" query string parameter
(and yep, you are recalling correctly. Query string should be case insensitive. This means that somewhere they are manually parsing the window location...)

12:37 PM
found this string in the app resources files
> "{0} attachment(s) found"

and? What about it?

Should I ask Jeff if I should be managing the pluralization of "attachment/attachments" instead of just displaying the (s) ?

@Derpy Jeff... who is Jeff... Jeff Bezos? ;)

obviously Jeff(rey) Lebowski
or in my case Lebowski pony

Is there pony bowling?

@Elephant No idea, but my hair used to be soft & comfy to touch, people used to like to play with my hair. Now my hair is just feral.

"play with my hair". hmm...

hehe, I didn't even....
:P

for whatever reason, I read it as "the chicken was playing with her hair", but whatever..
I think I'm too tired

@ShadowWizard You are one of the few cases the old Chinese (horrible) proverb "even if you don't know why, she will" works.

user202362
1:10 PM
@Elephant Sometimes I put my lone chicken on the armrest of the chair when I do something on the computer because I don't want her to be lonely, she occasionally peck on my hair.

> Scold @ShadowWizard regularly; even if you don't know why, he will

@Derpy oh, thanks! (I think ;))

1:25 PM
@JourneymanGeek I want to hide my name because I think people who ask are elder to me(with more knowledge) and it will show disrespectful to them. I. Just don't want my name to come..

@Fawad or you can spend the time to think before you do, and let your words speak for you
Rather than not daring to stand behind what you said

1:39 PM
umm... what are you talking about?
feeling left behind
crying in a corner

oh
So don't flag, @Fawad. It's really that simple. :)
There will be others to flag, the site won't fall.

Do NOT delete the auto comment, not without retracting the flag.
(as it will just be confusing)

or only do it when you're sure ;p

1:48 PM
@JourneymanGeek you mean flag? Think that's not the point, @Fawad is just afraid to have his name there, that's all.

Well that's why I said what I said to start with

@SmokeDetector gone
@JourneymanGeek oh

hmm
the outage is tommorrow right?

@JourneymanGeek kind of. Here it's already May 3

@ShadowWizard what when question is 1 year old? ;)

1:58 PM
I think it will be in 10 hours.

@ShadowWizard k

@Fawad so it won't be closed.... also not the end of the world.

you can also ask in chat, and others can flag/close it.

@Fawad If you have close rights, you're trusted enough to decide

1:59 PM
@ShadowWizard or just use my hidden socks ;D

Or develop a thick skin, gather your courage, and flag yourself.
@JourneymanGeek think he means just flagging

Oh, then you have a mod looking at it
that's even better

@JourneymanGeek but the comment is still there
(until closed)

So, stand by what you feel's right

@Fawad this is an option too as long as you don't flag twice.

2:01 PM
lol. Don't flag twice

@JourneymanGeek easy to say ;)

or thrice. or 6 times...

@JourneymanGeek well, some power users of Smokey are doing this for spam.

@ShadowWizard erf
hm. How does that work?

Once they flag with their real account, and once with some script causing a bot to flag.

2:02 PM
spam + close request?

No, two real spam flags.

@ShadowWizard that's a bit of a problem if you ask me

I know.

I once noticed, when I flagged a question as duplicate, then few moments later it was closed. But at bottom it didn't mentioned my name (who voted to close) so I need to gain enough reputation to get name there?
@JourneymanGeek you got it

so it needs only 3 users to nuke spam. @Journeyman

2:02 PM
also I'm not sure if you can double spam flag
oh, that

@JourneymanGeek they are using bot accounts

its real accounts, letting smokey flag for em
shrug TPTB know, and they don't really have an issue with em

@Fawad true, only when you cast a real close vote (3k rep) your name will appear.

@ShadowWizard oddly, the biggest problem I have with smokey is it makes getting marshal badges harder
On the other hand, its rediculously effective at catching the spam it knows about

2:11 PM
So, lets assume I'm sitting at my desk. I refresh. I see spam. I nuke. 20 seconds. Smokey assisted spam-whacking is slightly faster than me
Not sure if its people catching it off chat or letting the bot do it over API tho

dunno too

(also, I suspect those rules would be useful outside SE too)

@JourneymanGeek outside SE? You mean in real world?

That said, I'll stick to doing it the old fashioned way. Thrill of the hunt and all that
@ShadowWizard well, other sites

oh lol

2:13 PM
If you think about, SD's basically a semi-automatically generated set of spam filters

I don't think YouTube or Facebook even got an option to flag as spam.

just applied after the fact

I mean, you can flag, but it got 0 effect.

SE's approach to a few things is kinda unique IMO
Yup
(For example. getting the community to handle moderation tasks this way... can't think of any other place that did things that way before)

@ShadowWizard and then someone will find a way to abuse it ;)

@JourneymanGeek of course, that's why it will never happen...
